Hell Hath No Fury Like DoubleStar’s New “Crashete”

Thursday, January 12th, 2017

Crashete

Martial arts practitioner and weapon designer, Robert H. Cabrera of Filo Bladeworks, creates the next generation in edged-weapons.

Winchester, Ky. (January 2017) – DoubleStar Corp, manufacturers of high-quality, US-made AR components, rifles and pistols, reveal the Fury “Crashete”. We coined this term to accurately describe the Fury’s capability. Although the Fury’s gene pool harkens back to sugar cane and brush clearing machetes, its modern re-engineering puts it in the class of the perfect everyday tool and personal protection.

Most production machetes are made from .089″ – .125″ thick spring steel, but DoubleStar went instead with .285″ thick S7 tool steel. This steel gives the Fury’s blade a high impact toughness and resistance to shock load. Heavy enough for light breaching but still lightweight enough at 1 lb. 12 oz. to be comfortably carried on your person. Measuring just 18.25″ long, the Fury gives you reach while still being useful in close quarter situations. MSRP of the Fury is $499.99.

Pocket Samurai On Indiegogo

Wednesday, September 14th, 2016

ig3rjzjptowjyjcjtcb0

StatGear has started a project on Indiegogo for a katana-inspired EDC folding knife. The handle is made of grade 5 titanium in either black or gray, while the blade is made of 440C stainless steel with a Tanto-style edge. It’s a great looking knife, which is apparent in that the campaign easily surpassed the modest $2500 goal. There’s still a couple of days left on the project, so if you want to support it (and guarantee a knife when they’re produced) there’s still time.

A bit different than the other offerings I checked out at the booth, the Freescape Camp Kitchen Kit is nonetheless worth taking a look at. The Camp Kitchen Kit comes with the Camp Kitchen and Paring Knives, a built-in ceramic sharpener, locking drawer, and drip channel around the board. The case itself is bright green, which matches the handle accents of the included knives, and makes it easy to identify.

Cold Steel – Thompson Saber

Tuesday, December 29th, 2015

88EBTS_m

One thing I like about Cold Steel is they’re not constrained by the typical. They’re not just a knife company, they make staffs and bats out of hardened polymer, offer full swords along with any EDC-capable knife, and they adopt or replicate older style weapons in many of their designs. That is readily apparent in the Thompson Saber, one of their latest designs in 2015. The Thompson Saber was created to Cold Steel President Lynn C Thompson’s specifications as a modern-day fighting saber. It was inspired by Thompson’s extensive experience with Western, Japanese, and Filipino fighting arts, made of 1055 carbon steel with a modified 1904 saber guard and a ray skin-wrapped handle.

DPX GEAR INTRODUCES THE DPX ACULUS 3D, A MONOBLOCK GENTLEMAN’S KNIFE CARVED FROM A SOLID BLOCK OF TITANIUM ALLOY

Thursday, July 30th, 2015

San Diego, CA – July 29, 2015 – DPx Gear, Inc. has released the new monoblock frame gentleman’s knife, the DPx Aculus 3D. It is available in a limited run of 100 pieces available exclusively from DPx Gear and ready for immediate shipment.

Aculus

The DPx Aculus is a hard use gentleman’s knife carved from a single block of 6Al4v titanium alloy. The Aculus is an every day carry tool with beautifully fluid lines, exquisite ergonomics, and a tough blade of the highest quality and finish. The frame is a single seamless machined piece of art, elegantly held together with only two screws. The Aculus was designed for undercover work, where professionals must dress in formal wear but must carry tools that cannot fail. The ergonomics had to work as a knife but also as a concealed hand held tool capable of dealing non-lethal pain to attackers.

The DPx Aculus 3D features a unique 3D diamond pattern for superior grip, a tungsten carbide glass breaker with replacement flat head screw, a deep carry pocket clip, razor sharp Niolox tool steel, and DPx Gear’s no-questions-asked lifetime warranty. KA-BAR Zombro Knife On Massdrop

Tuesday, July 21st, 2015

Massdrop is a crowd-based sales platform where users vote on commercial items to be featured on the site, based on a category such as ‘Espresso machine’ or ‘Tactical backpack’. Once voting narrows down to just one item, Massdrop contacts the manufacturer and looks to set up a ‘Massdrop’, which aims to offer bulk pricing to the masses while only requiring they buy one each. As true of a traditional bulk pricing model, the more items sold, the lower the price for all.

Zombro

This time, the chosen knife is the KA-BAR Zombro Knife. It features a ~9″ 1095 cro-van steel blade with a Kraton zombie-green handle. It’s going for $49.99+S&H through Massdrop, with an MSRP of $137.97. It’s only got about a week left, so if you’re interested you should jump on this deal.
