Call Of Duty: WWII – Nazi Zombies Trailer

Thursday, July 20th, 2017

So the new Nazi Wehrmacht Zombies is looking pretty intense. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that Sledgehammer Games is headed and staffed by former Viseral Games staff, the team that made the Dead Space series.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – Liesel Video

Sunday, July 9th, 2017

I still can’t get over how great the marketing is for this game.

Call Of Duty: WWII Multiplayer Reveal Trailer

Monday, June 12th, 2017

Enjoy this multiplayer reveal trailer that barely looks like a multiplayer reveal trailer.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus Reveal Trailer

Sunday, June 11th, 2017

After a largely disappointing E3 conference, Bethesda closed out the event by saving the best for last: this trailer for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. BJ Blazkowicz is back, ripping his way through a Nazi-controlled United States with a cast of colorful characters, excessive violence, and alternate weapon dual wielding!

If there’s one thing that Bethesda has gotten right as of late, it’s not revealing games until they’re almost ready to ship, and this game is no exception.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is slated for release October 27, 2017.

Strange Brigade Reveal Trailer

Wednesday, June 7th, 2017

Looks like an entertaining throwback to pulpy, 1930s adventure stories. Plus, it comes from Rebellion, the company behind the Sniper Elite series and the owners of AD 2000.

Far Cry 5 – Official Announcement Trailer

Sunday, May 28th, 2017

An open-world Montana. An apocalypse cult. A colorful cast of characters.

Yup, sounds like a Far Cry game.

Comes out next year.

Fallout 4 Is Free This Weekend

Thursday, May 25th, 2017

Fallout 4 isn’t perfect; it makes some lore inconsistencies when compared to previous games in the series, and sacrifices so much of the RPG and dialogue elements of Fallout games past for a more (arguably) simplified experience, but it’s a fine, enjoyable game on its own merits. That’s why, if you’re still on the fence about it (and you have a capable PC and/or an Xbox One), you can and should take advantage of the Fallout 4 Free Weekend, which started today and runs through the 28th.

The Fallout 4 Free Weekend is available on Steam and Xbox Live

Far Cry 5 – Teaser Trailer

Monday, May 22nd, 2017

The Far Cry series is known for allowing players to take the role of a lone fighter, committing guerrilla-style attacks on a statically-superior force in an open-world sandbox. This time, Ubisoft teases the fictional Hope County, Montana as the latest setting, with few details other than the trailer showing that something is wrong in that area. May 26th, this Friday, will be the official reveal.

NERF Rival Apollo XV-700 Star Wars Mandalorian Edition Blaster And Face Mask

Saturday, May 20th, 2017

I’m not the biggest fan of store exclusive variants, but GameStop is currently offering a pre-order for a NERFRival Apollo XV-700 Blaster with an exclusive Mandalorian paint job, and a matching mask.

The NERF Rival line consists of various unique blasters that fire foam spheres rather than darts, and feed from translucent magazines. The Rival in the name comes from the fact that the blasters in the series are generally available in either solid blue or red colors, signifying opposite teams. While I would have liked to see a more Mandalorian-inspired face mask, all the same, this is a cool release if you’re into NERF and Star Wars.

The release date for the Mandalorian Apollo XV-700 w/ Face Mask is November 17th of this year, coinciding with the release of ‘Star Wars: Battlefront 2’.

You can pre-order the blaster at www.gamestop.com/collectibles/toys/nerf-rival-apollo-xv-700-star-wars-mandalorian-edition-blaster-and-face-mask-only-at-gamestop/147524.

Destiny 2 – Official Gameplay Reveal Trailer

Friday, May 19th, 2017

If you like First Person Shooters, and MMORPGs, then you might like Destiny 2.

It comes out September 8th.

Fallout 4 Adult Coloring Book

Sunday, May 14th, 2017

Adult Coloring Book as in ‘a coloring book based on an M-rated video game’, because based on the preview images the content is fairly tame, although some may consider the Nuka Cola pinup girl a bit racy. Whatever the case, the Fallout 4 Adult Coloring Book comes with 100 pages to color to your heart’s content. Make every character, locale, and weapon within any color you want; it’s your book, after all.

Tokyo Mauri – Thor’s Hammer Albert 02 Airsoft Replica

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017

Untitled

Tokyo Mauri has been offering Biohazard/Resident Evil-licensed airsoft guns for quite some time now, and they’ll be expanding those offerings with the release of the Albert 02 replica from the upcoming ‘Resident Evil 7: Biohazard’ DLC, ‘Not A Hero’. The Albert 02 is a combat shotgun that will be wielded by series regular Chris Redfield (or is he?). It looks like the 3-way love child of a SCAR, USAS-12, and the forend of a Warsport LVOA.

The Albert 02 is itself derived from Tokyo Mauri’s ‘Thor’s Hammer’, which is an original airsoft gun created in-house by their design team, and not directly modeled after any real world firearms.

Look forward to seeing the Albert 02 airsoft replica when it releases this Summer, and the ‘Not A Hero’ DLC when it releases.

Call Of Duty: WWII Reveal Trailer

Wednesday, April 26th, 2017

Call of Duty: WWII’s reveal trailer dropped today, offering a blend of ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and ‘Band of Brothers’ mixed with shiny graphics. The reveal itself was pretty bare, as expected, giving virtually no details on the multiplayer, but Nazi Zombies was confirmed, which is great if you’re into that sort of thing. With E3 being as close as it is, they’ll be sure to reveal more WWII info at that show.

Supposedly, the campaign will be devoid of regenerating health, rather requiring players to seek out a squad medic for healing, and ammo has to be requested from squad mates. Classic WWII weapons such as the M1 Garand, M1903 Springfield, M3 Grease Gun, MG42, and StG 44 were all confirmed either by footage or developer mention, which is obvious, and more weapons are guaranteed to follow as info becomes more available.

Call of Duty: WWII released November 3rd, 2017.

Call Of Duty WWII Confirmed

Friday, April 21st, 2017

COD WWII

OK, so it’s not like it wasn’t already ‘confirmed’ last month, but this is an ‘official’ confirmation. Next Wednesday, 4/26, is the official reveal; a bit earlier than E3, but, hey, who’s gonna complain?

Based on years past, we should see some early footage next week at the reveal, followed by campaign footage at E3 2017 (edited ‘in the interest of time’), and finally an official multiplayer reveal sometime afterwards, followed by the standard November release.

Star Wars Battlefront II Reveal Trailer

Sunday, April 16th, 2017

Check out this reveal trailer for Star Wars Battlefront II, which premiered as part of this year’s Star Wars Celebration. DICE’s Battlefront, a reboot of the beloved Star Wars Battlefront series developed by Pandemic Studios in the mid 2000s, was a technically-impressive but somewhat lackluster game, featuring gorgeous graphics mixed with what ultimately felt more like Battlefield groundplay in a Star Wars skin, and vehicle combat which many gamers felt paled in comparison to its predecessor series. This sequel promises an actual story campaign, along with key battles from all three eras of the current Star Wars mainline canon, and the addition of space combat.

Hopefully, with this iteration of the Battlefront series, the game truly improves on its predecessor, and draws a bit more from Pandemic’s previous take on the franchise.

Destiny 2 – Rally The Troops Reveal Trailer

Thursday, March 30th, 2017

So, it kinda feels like they’re changing the tone a bit with the sequel to Destiny. Sure, there was the occasional twinge of humor, and dancing emotes, but the Deadpool-wannabe seems like a new direction.

Call of Duty WWII Leaked

Tuesday, March 28th, 2017

Call of Duty WWII

By this point it’s not the most breaking news, but for those who aren’t aware, the latest game in the long-running Call of Duty franchise is going back to its roots and taking place during World War II. Called ‘Call of Duty WWII’, the new game is being developed by Sledgehammer Games. There hasn’t been a mainline game in the CoD series that takes place during this period since 2008’s ‘CoD: World at War’, developed by Treyarch. Based on the posters and various steel book game cases that were leaked, it looks like the game will take place at least partially on the Western front, with the D-Day invasion being prominently displayed in the promotional materials.

Since the latest Call of Duty titles have been drifting farther and farther into the realm of science fiction and alternate history, it doesn’t come as much of a shock that Activision and Sledgehammer are attempting a reset of the franchise, an appeal to those clamoring for a more ‘classic CoD experience’. With a game set in World War II, we’re pretty much guaranteed a lack of double jumping, infinite sprinting, wallrunning, direct energy weapons, and other now common CoD elements that, interestingly (perhaps ironically) enough, actually started with Sledgehammer’s first lone-developed CoD title, ‘CoD: Advanced Warfare’.

It’s worth mentioning that this may be the start of a trend of AAA developers revisiting historical wars in first person shooter games: EA and DICE took a bit of a risk and just last year introduced ‘Battlefield One’, a mainline Battlefield title that takes place during World War I, which has paid heavily in their favor both critically and commercially. Granted, there were some provisions and near-anachronisms made within ‘Battlefield One’ for the sake of enjoyable gameplay, but it was still a huge departure from the most recent numbered Battlefield titles, which take place in a world-spanning conflict in a modern setting. I can’t say in confidence that ‘CoD WWII’ is a reactionary attempt to capture some of Battlefield One’s success, since each game in the CoD series is released by one of three developers and is developed over a period of three years, but the franchises will once again be compared for their major departure in setting.

In any event, ‘another year, another CoD’ rings true yet again, even if we’re trading the space suits and laser rifles for olive drab combat uniforms and M1 Garands. We should still expect finicky gameplay balance, kill streaks, and map packs and microtransations aplenty.

Look forward to the inevitable official announcement for ‘CoD WWII’ when E3 rolls around this coming June.

RAID: World War II

Wednesday, March 8th, 2017

A 4-player co-op game where you play as soldiers of various nationalities teamed up against the Nazi menace, and there’s Nazi gold to steal. Sounds like Payday crossed with a dash of Inglourious Basterds.

Rogue Trooper Redux Teaser

Tuesday, February 28th, 2017

Rogue Trooper, one of 2000 AD’s lesser-known properties opposite the widely-recognized Judge Dredd, stars Rogue, a blue-skinned ‘Genetic Infantry’ super soldier who fights on the poisoned, war-torn world of Nu Earth, and who also starred in a 2006 video game of the same name. Rebellion just announced a ‘Redux’ version of that same game, to be released on current generation consoles, PC, and the soon-to-be-released Nintendo Switch.

Personally, I’m pretty excited.

Man At Arms: Reforged – Viking Dane Axe

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

This time, the Man At Arms: Reforged crew recreates the Viking Dane Axe from the upcoming game ‘For Honor’.

Halo Wars 2: War of Wits

Monday, February 13th, 2017

The first Halo Wars was an Xbox 360-exclusive RTS designed specifically for play on a console; it wasn’t bad. In advertising its sequel, Microsoft has a real winner of a commercial in its hands. The second one, involving who gets the armrest on an airplane, is also pretty funny.

Mass Effect: Andromeda Trailer 2

Monday, January 30th, 2017

600 years after the events of the original Mass Effect trilogy, play as not-Sheppard as he/she explores a new galaxy with virtually the same collection of alien species in the last game, while befriending a new alien species and fighting another alien species.

Andromeda drops March 21st.

ThinkGeek – Mass Effect Omni-Blade Cosplay Weapon

Saturday, January 28th, 2017

jonn_mass_effect_omniblade

In the far-future world of Mass Effect, technology is advanced enough that hard light constructs exist, and that includes hard light being used as a quick-deployable ‘Omni-Blade’ for close quarters combat. ThinkGeek has released a cosplay version of the Omni-Blade made of transparent orange resin, with a switch on the wearable disk letting the wearer swing the blade out or sheath it along their arm.

Apocalypse Now: The Video Game On Kickstarter

Friday, January 27th, 2017

Erebus LLC has set up a Kickstarter campaign for a video game adaption of Apocalypse Now. The dev team, which is composed of industry veterans who have developed for titles such as Fallout: New Vegas, Wasteland 2, and Far Cry will be lending their talents towards adapting Apocalypse Now into a psychological horror game with RPG elements, encouraging stealth and resource management over run-and-gun gameplay, and allowing the player to develop Captain Willard to suit their playstyle.

While it can certainly be a daunting task to try and adapt Apocalypse Now into a functioning, and more importantly enjoyable, video game, on paper, at least, it seems the dev team is taking a pretty decent attempt at adapting the property into an interactive media.
