Wednesday, September 30th, 2020

ONTARIO, California – Safariland®, a brand of The Safariland Group, a leading global provider of safety products designed for the public safety, military, professional and outdoor markets, announced the expansion of its popular Impulse product line. The newest addition, the Impulse Range Kit, provides adaptable, complete protection by combining its Foam Impulse Hearing Protection, Ultra Compact Earmuffs and HD Flex Protective Eyewear into one convenient package.

Safariland’s new Impulse Range Kit ($39.99 MSRP) brings two proven methods of hearing protection together for the first time. The new Foam Impulse earbuds reduce sound levels by up to 38dB and provide 13dB of continuous sound reduction. The Impulse filter technology in each foam earbud cuts dangerous noise levels while still allowing speech and audio to be heard clearly.

For indoor ranges or areas where noise levels are more persistent, the Ultra Compact Earmuffs will provide 20dB of constant protection and can be comfortably worn over the Impulse Foam earbuds.

The Impulse Range Kit also provides protection for eyes by including Safariland’s HD Flex Protective Eyewear lenses made of fog-proof, scratch-resistant polycarbonate. The wrap-around lens design offers multi-directional protection and the rubber nose bridge and adjustable earpieces allow for a secure and comfortable fit.

“The Impulse Range Kit has quickly become one of my favorite shooting accessories. Whether I’m at an indoor or outdoor range, the two layers of hearing protection and the wrap-around eyewear keep me well protected.” Pro Shooter, Rob Leatham said. “And the filter technology in the Foam Impulse earbuds shields me from harmful sounds while allowing me to clearly hear my buddies talking to me while we’re out on the range.”

RIP Venture Bros

Tuesday, September 8th, 2020

According to myriad sources on the internet (so it must be true! Unfortunately, it really is true; straight from the creators’ mouths, in fact.), the long-running cartoon series Venture Bros has officially been cancelled by late night adult programming network [adult swim]. Venture Bros was first introduced to the [as] programming block with a pilot in 2003, the show debuted in earnest in 2004, and continued in a fairly sporadic manner with seasons premiering on a roughly biennial — that’s every 2 years or so — schedule. Venture Bros’ seventh, and final, season ended in late 2018, making it one of the longest lasting series on [adult swim] at 15-ish years of production(!!!). In fact, the show runners were in the process of writing the eighth season when news of the show’s cancellation broke, so they were just as surprised as anyone else.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom. [adult swim] has expressed interest in continuing the story line as planned in some fashion, and in this age of streaming services and series revitalizations, Venture Bros could totally migrate over to a new production company. If I had to make a bet, it would probably be HBO Max, since that’s where all of the Turner-owned animated shows seem to be popping up, as of late.

But, whatever the case, I will dearly miss the satirization of 60’s era boy adventurer and Space Age fiction that the Venture Bros. is/was, and am eager to see how the property is developed in the future.

Lipsey’s Goes Back To Where It All Began With Retro P80 9mm Exclusive

Tuesday, September 1st, 2020

So this is actually a pretty cool announcement from Lipsey’s: an exclusive Glock Full Size 9mm pistol styled after the original Austrian Military P80 ‘Gen 1’ service pistol, complete with the accurate ‘tupperware’ case. Despite the likely limited availability of this release, the listed MSRP is only running a bit higher than the most current G17 Gen5, at $670. Yeah, that’s not a break-the-bank price for a poly handgun — especially in today’s market, where 9mm handguns are pretty scarce due to… increased market interest in firearms ownership — but those familiar with the Lipsey’s exclusive Glocks would know that it’ll also be a pain to get a hold of without paying scalper prices, since these are sure to be an ‘allocated’ item with most stores having extremely limited, if any, stock.

Baton Rouge, La.—Lipsey’s, the nation’s premier firearms distributor, has unveiled the new Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK P80. A historical reproduction of the original, innovative GLOCK pistol adopted by the Austrian Army in 1982.

In 1981, Gaston Glock assembled a team of engineers and designed his first firearm. The result was submitted to the Austrian Army pistol trials and won the contract in 1982. The Army then designated the first GLOCK as the Pistole 80. These guns were later known commercially as “G17s” and were only available in the US market for two years until the “Gen2” model was introduced in 1988. P80 marked GLOCKs were never imported into the United States.

After its American debut as the GLOCK 17 in 1986, the simple, yet proven, mechanics and materials have remained mainly the same. The original P80 and Gen1 G17 featured non-railed frames with no finger grooves and wrap around pebble grain texturing. Lipsey’s worked with GLOCK to recreate the Gen1 single pin frame and the original flat extractor. The P80 markings are the same font used in 1982. The classic “Tupperware” style container was also re-manufactured for this edition. Each GLOCK P80 includes a commemorative overbox and certificate of authenticity.

The new Lipsey’s Exclusive GLOCK P80 was developed to allow modern GLOCK enthusiasts to acquire a piece of the company’s unique history. The concept began with Jason Cloessner, Lipsey’s Vice President & Product Development Manager, who initiated the collaboration with GLOCK some three years ago. “I have always wanted to do a retro GLOCK pistol. GLOCK took painstaking measures to recreate the original frames and packaging to make this P80 edition as close to the original as we could get. Not only is this edition a great shooter, but it also helps tell the amazing story of how GLOCK came to be.”

Bob Radecki, GLOCK, Inc. National Sales Manager was an instrumental partner in bringing this throwback concept to life. “GLOCK, in conjunction with Lipsey’s, is very pleased to commemorate the adoption of the GLOCK P80 by the Austrian Army with a recreation inspired by the original GLOCK Pistole 80. The P80 was GLOCK’s first pistol and was the catalyst that led to the introduction of the G17, which revolutionized the pistol market and launched GLOCK as the pistol manufacturer trusted around the globe for over 30 years.”

Located in Baton Rouge, Lipsey’s formed initially as a wholesale hunting and fishing distributor in 1953.

Today, Lipsey’s is one of the largest independently owned firearms distributors in the country offering a full catalog of firearms, NFA items, and accessories. The “AIM HIGHER” company mantra focuses on innovative product development, distribution, and dedication to family, community, and industry. With a committed focus on relationships, Lipsey’s provides value to federally licensed dealers and the industry’s top manufacturers.
