SSD dug up this blast from the past, which featured cap blasting action and actual smoke that came out of the barrel.

They really don’t make ’em like this anymore.

War for the Planet of the Apes Trailer

December 10th, 2016

The Planet of the Apes franchise is one of my favorites, and the first two reboot films have been pretty decent so far, so hopefully this one follows suit.

NERF Rebelle – CornerSight Blaster

December 8th, 2016

cornersight

For those who don’t remember, NERF’s Rebelle line is a series of dart blasters and accessories aimed principally at the young girl market. It also happens to have some of the more unique blasters to come out in recent memory, such as the CornerSight blaster. Possibly inspired by the Israeli CornerShot weapon system, the NERF CornerSight features a barrel that can bend left or right, as well as mirrors that allow the shooter to fire around corners. The CornerSight fires 1 dart at a time, and can hold a total capacity of 4 darts, with storage for 2 additional darts.

Currently available wherever NERF Rebelle products are sold.

Columbia – Star Wars Rogue One Apparel

December 5th, 2016

untitled

Columbia and Disney have partnered up to produce a line of officially licensed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story apparel. The three pieces, Women’s Jyn Erso Rebel Jacket, Men’s Captain Cassian Andor Rebel Parka, and Men’s Imperial Death Trooper Jacket, will be officially available starting 12/9/16 at select Columbia store locations, as well as for online purchase.

In my opinion, the Jyn Erso jacket is actually the coolest looking piece of the three. It actually looks like authentic Star Wars garb. The Death Trooper jacket is pretty overt in its design, but looks like a decent outer layer, even though you might have to be a pretty big Star Wars fan to wear it on the regular. As for the parka? Well, it really reminds me of the Hoth parka from Empire, which makes it pretty neat.

8 Minutes Of Prey Gameplay

December 3rd, 2016

It may have very little to do with the original Prey, but this re-imagining/reboot/blatant-attempt-to-cash-in-on-an-established-property-via-name-recognition actually looks like a pretty good game.

In fact, it very much reminds me of System Shock. Looking forward to it coming out.

NERF TerraScout Now Available

December 2nd, 2016

Terrascout

NERF’s TerraScout, the RC NERF blaster drone that was unveiled back in June, is now available in stores. The TerraScout is a blaster drone that features a 720p video camera, which can be controlled via an included remote; the remote features an integrated LCD screen for live viewing. An additional detail that has come to light is users can record the video feed onto an SSD card.

The drone itself comes complete with an 18-dart mag/clip, which it fires full-automatic, and is compatible with NERF N-Strike barrel extensions. It is also capable of traveling on (mostly) all terrain via its tank-like treads.

MSRP is still $200, so this one might have to wait until Christmas.

Death Stranding – Trailer 2

Fully Functioning Fallout 4 Automatic Laser Rifle

November 27th, 2016

Ok, to be fair it’s not “functional” in that it shoots an actual laser projectile, but the barrels (if you can call them that) spin, the muzzle flashes with light, and it makes game-authentic sounds.

If you have the aptitude necessary to make one for yourself, the creator put the plans online here:

Cards Against Humanity – The Holiday Hole

November 25th, 2016

pasted-image-at-2016_11_25-02_16-pm

Every year around the holidays, the Cards Against Humanity team comes up with a new gimmick. Last year, for Black Friday, they sold literally nothing… for $5 a pop. Unabashed capitalism at its finest.

This year, they’re digging a hole. And that’s pretty much it.

The reason we brought this up is because our friends at Tacticalgear.com donated a $1001 towards this funny but ultimately pointless endeavor. In fact, here’s the email they received after their donation:

Bullets vs Propeller In Slow Motion

November 23rd, 2016

The Slo Mo Guys, in association with (and sponsorship from) EA, produced a video where they recorded slow motion footage of a machine gun and propeller setup. They first recorded footage where the synchronization gear was active, a mechanism which timed a plane-mounted machine gun to fire in-between the arc of a propeller’s blades, making plane-mounted machine guns viable during the Great War. The second bit of footage has the synchronization gear turned off, and it resulted in 4 hits to the propeller blades.

Neat stuff.

Violent Little Machine Shop – Every State in Thin Blue Line Patch Series

November 22nd, 2016

Violent Little Machine Shop took Thin Blue Line morale patches to the next level, and created a Thin Blue Line patch for every one of the 50 states that make up the USA. Vermont? Check. Delaware? Absolutely. Hawaii? You bettcha! All US states, Alabama through Wyoming, are fully represented in this patch set in glorious PVC, Velcro-backed, either 3″ tall or 3″ wide. The initial order consisted of 7800 individual patches, so there’s plenty to go around.

virginia_thin_blue_line_republic_morale_patch_large

To drive the point home, here’s SSD’s TFB’s current state of headquarters: Virginia. You can get your state of residence direct from VLMS, or if you’re feeling particularly supportive you can buy a set consisting of all 50 patches. $50 of each set sold will be donated to The Fraternal Order of Police – Treasure Valley to help support the recovery of two local officers, one in critical condition, and a K9 that were shot in VLMS’ home state of Idaho on November 11th.

The STK Multi-Tool: Sliding Tool & Knife for Every Day Carry On Kickstarter

November 21st, 2016

I’m a fan of a good EDC multitool, and with Kickstarter allowing all sorts of ideas to gain fruition, it’s no surprise that a bunch of multitools pop up as fundable projects. One such tool is the STK from Kopis Designs. The STK, which stands for ‘Sliding Tool and Knife’, and could be pronounced like the word ‘stick’ (although it sure doesn’t look like one), is a multitool with an integrated opening and locking mechanism. The frame is made of 6AL4V titanium, and the blade is made of S35VN steel. The blade functions as a straight-edge knife, and also hosts the following features:

  • push-cut / scraping blade
  • flathead/pry edge
  • 1/4″ bit diver
  • bottle opener
  • wingnut and O2 valve wrench
  • wire-striper notch
  • The STK’s opposite end also hosts a titanium pocket clip, which can also double as a money clip, if you feel a wallet is too high profile.

In addition to the STK, Kopis is also offering the Rift EDC tool on the same project campaign. The Rift is very much a companion piece to the STK, with a design very reminiscent of the later, but it is intended as a “travel-safe pry tool”; “travel-safe” in this case means ‘intentionally designed with no sharp edges’. Also manufactured of 6AL4V titanium, the Edge features the following tools:

  • box opening point
  • scraping / pry edge
  • flathead
  • 1/4″ bit driver / bottle opener
  • O2 wrench / 1/4″ bit storage / key ring slot
  • pocket clip & key dangler
  • If you like what you see, feel free to click the link below and put more than a few dollars towards the project.
