Federal Expands Lineup of Its Popular Syntech Ammunition

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018

ANOKA, Minnesota – April 3, 2018 – Federal Ammunition is pleased to announce a new addition to its full line of Syntech handgun ammunition. Look for Syntech in a variety of the most popular loads, including the new 124-grain 9mm Luger. Shipments are being delivered to dealers.

Conventional ammunition causes metal-on-metal contact between the bullet and bore, which can shorten barrel life and hurt accuracy. The polymer-encapsulated Syntech bullet prevents this, while eliminating copper and lead fouling. Combined with clean-burning powders, your gun will stay cleaner, longer, so you can shoot more—and shoot better. The exclusive Catalyst primer provides the cleanest most consistent ignition possible—that’s why it received the 2017 NRA Golden Bullseye Award.

Features & Benefits
• New 124-grain 9mm Luger offering
• 2017 NRA Golden Bullseye Award winner
• Polymer-encapsulated Syntech bullet prevents metal-on-metal contact in the bore, eliminating copper and lead fouling, while extending barrel life
• Exclusive primer formulation provides reliable, consistent ignition
• Clean-burning propellants minimize residue and fouling
• Significantly reduces the required frequency of cleaning
• Absence of a copper jacket minimizes splash-back on steel targets
• Less perceived recoil

Bismarck Police Department Selects the SIG SAUER P320

Wednesday, March 21st, 2018

Newington, N.H. (March 21, 2018) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce that the Bismarck Police Department has selected the P320 striker-fired pistol as its handgun of choice.

The city commission approved the purchase of 140 SIG SAUER P320 handguns equipped with X-RAY3 pistol sights, for faster sight acquisition under all lighting conditions.

“The department needs to replace our handguns due to some documented malfunctions and reliability concerns over the last couple of years,” said Bismarck Police Chief Dan Donlin, speaking of their current sidearm.

Employing its cadre of certified firearms instructors, the department conducted extensive testing of firearms from three manufacturers. In addition to the P320, the department tested the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0, and the Glock® 17 & 19. According to Chief Donlin, the decision was quickly narrowed down to the SIG SAUER P320 based on performance and reliability.

“The SIG SAUER, in the majority of opinions, outperformed the Glock,” Donlin said. “It provided a lot more overall comfort and handling in the varying hand sizes of our officers,” noting the modularity of the P320, with its three sizes of grip module to choose from. “The SIG, out of the box, was very accurate. Even our best shooters couldn’t believe how much better they shot with the SIG versus the Glock.”

“SIG SAUER is very proud to have been chosen by the Bismarck Police Department,” said Tom Jankiewicz, Executive Vice President, Law Enforcement Sales. “The P320 was chosen because of its modularity, accuracy and most importantly its reliability. These officers put their lives on the line, and we’re humbled to have our products chosen to help keep them safe.”

DoubleStar Strongarm Pistol Brace takes Pistol Stabilizers to a Whole New Level

Tuesday, March 6th, 2018

Made tough, made to last and Made in America. Strongarm your pistol.

Winchester, Ky. (March 2018) – DoubleStar Corp, manufacturers of high-quality, US-made AR components, rifles and pistols, is proud to offer an alternative to cheap pistol stabilizers with the new DoubleStar Strongarm Pistol Brace. What sets the Strongarm apart from the competition is that it is made from rugged 6061 billet aluminum, unlike many of the plastic or soft foam products currently on the market.

Made in America, the Strongarm is built to last, just like the rest of the DoubleStar and Ace product lines. The Strongarm features three QD swivel mounting points with swivel included and fits pistol buffer tubes with a 1.11 to 1.2 inch diameter. Finished with a Type 3 hardcoat anodize to withstand plenty of use, it also comes with a hook and loop strap for increased stabilization, making the Strongarm your shooting arm.

“With the popularity of pistol stabilizing braces on the rise, there are many that make the shooting experience less desirable because of poor materials or faulty production,” Nick Collier, director of special operations for DoubleStar, said. “We at DoubleStar know that people rely on our products, whether it is because they are military, law enforcement or serious competitors; therefore, it is extremely important to us that every part is carefully designed and manufactured in our state-of-the-art facility using only the materials and technology that will ensure our DoubleStar and Ace products will perform to our stringent standards.”

Primary Weapons Systems Releases Multiple New Product Lines at SHOT Show

Monday, February 5th, 2018

Primary Weapons Systems released multiple new product lines and updates at SHOT Show last month.

MK109_MOD2-M_Rifle_45

Starting with the MOD 1-M line (replacing the MK1 MOD 1-P line) with M-LOK handguards and Radian Raptor charging handles. Keeping the internals the same, the MK1 MOD 1-M line got a simple facelift. To match that, the MK2 MOD 1-M line also got M-LOK handguards and Radian Raptor charging handles.

MK216_MOD2-M_Rifle_45

Past the more expected updates, we take a look at the MK1 MOD 2-M line which replaces the MK1 MOD 2 line. The MK1 MOD 2-M line features not just an M-LOK handguard, but their patent pending PicLok handguard. Yes, it offers M-LOK along the entire length of the handguard, but also offers Picatinny in the front quarter of the rail. What sets the PWS MK1 MOD 2-M handguards apart, is the fact that M-LOK accessories direct thread into the handguard, meaning you don’t use the back T-nut of the accessory. This allows the shooter’s rail to truly stay as slim as possible while still offering a variety of mounting options. In addition to the PicLok handguard, the MK1 MOD 2-M line includes the Radian Raptor charging handle and Radian Talon safety selector.

11in_Mod2-M_Handguard_45

For PWS customers wanting to do a quick handguard swap, we have good news! Handguards will be available as standalone items, so you can easily swap your current PicMod to PicLok.

Alpha_11in_Rifle_45

The ALPHA line of rifles, easily differentiated by the FDE anodizing, was designed specifically for military use, but will be available for civilians. A few features of the ALPHA line are the heavier barrel profile, 1:7 barrel twist rate and gas adjustment knob in front of the handguard.

PCC16_Rifle_45

The last big release from PWS was the new PCC line in 9mm. Using a straight blowback system, taking GLOCK mags and having last round bolt hold open, PWS expects the PCC line to be a popular addition to their current offerings.

The PWS website is currently being rebuilt, but will be live by mid-February. In the meantime, customers can contact sales@primaryweapons.com for questions and purchasing.

Company Information:
Primary Weapons Systems (PWS) was formed in 2008 as a rifle component company and has since grown to be one of the largest firearms manufacturers in the Northwest. PWS initially made firearm accessories and compensators, but quickly moved into firearm manufacturing as they developed their PWS Long-Stroke Piston System which takes the operating system from Kalashnikov’s AK design and merges it with Stoner’s AR platform giving a hybrid rifle to shooters looking for a low-maintenance yet reliable and accurate firearm. PWS manufactures AR-15s in 223 Wylde, 300BLK and 7.62×39 as well as DPMS .308 pattern builds in both .308 Match and 6.5 Creedmoor- all with the long-stroke piston operating system. The PCC line of 9mm products is the only line that varies from the piston system, being a straight blowback system. Also manufactured by Primary Weapons Systems are lightweight buffer tubes, steel body buffers, accessories and a wide selection of compensators for firearms both piston driven and direct impingement.

The God Bless America Edition Golden Boy is a .22 S/L/LR lever action rifle built on Henry’s time-honored and award-winning Golden Boy platform known for its smooth action, American walnut stocks and blued steel octagonal barrel. Intricate floral scrollwork engraving on both sides of the nickel-plated receiver cover frames iconic images of America’s heritage like the American flag, the Liberty Bell, and a bald eagle, all of which have details highlighted in 24-carat gold. A banner on the right side of the receiver cover contains the words, “Home of the Free Because of the Brave.” The stock is engraved and hand-painted with the Statue of Liberty’s torch, and in similar colors, the rifle’s forend displays the words, “God Bless America.”

God Bless America Edition Big Boy

Henry is also introducing a centerfire version, the God Bless America Edition Big Boy, featuring similar imagery on a rifle chambered for .44 Magnum/.44 Special with a 10. The God Bless America Edition Golden Boy, model #H004GBA has an MSRP of $1,208, and the Big Boy version, model #H006GBA has an MSRP of $1,523.

The Stand for the Flag Edition Golden Boy is a direct salute to the American flag with a full red, white and blue depiction applied to both sides of the receiver cover with a durable polymer-ceramic coating known as Cerakote. The finish adds a layer of further abrasion and corrosion resistance on top of the nickel plating. The buttstock features a hand-painted image of a man standing hand-on-heart with the words, “O Say Can You See” written underneath. The Stand for the Flag Edition Golden Boy, model #H004SFF is chambered in .22 S/L/LR with an MSRP of $1,208.

The Patriot Series also includes three plaques that include hardware for mounting on a wall or the lawn, all of which are available through Henry Pride, Henry Repeating Arms’ eCommerce store. SHOT Show 2018 – American Defense Innovations Stinger

IMG_0468

This is the American Defense Innovations Stinger. One of the more unique products to be found at this year’s SHOT Show, the Stinger is a ‘Rapid Deployment Bayonet’. It is designed to mount to the underside of a forend via Picatinny rail, and features an aluminum housing which deploys a large pseudo spike-style bayonet. The mechanism works by depressing a recessed button on the underside of the housing and dragging it forward so the unit locks into place.

The Stinger is expected to start shipping around April-May 2018, and is being distributed by Paper City Firearms.

SHOT Show 2018 – IWI TS12

Saturday, January 27th, 2018

IMG_0465

The TS12 is a semi-auto bullpup shotgun and the first shotgun in the Tavor family of weapons. Chambered for 12 gauge shotshells, the TS12 features a 15+1 capacity (12+1 with 3″ shells), and, in a design that is somewhat reminiscent of the SRM Arms Model 1216, feeds from a rotating drum of three 5-round magazine tubes that must be manually cycled as one tube is expended. Being a bullpup shotgun, despite its 28″ overall length, it manages to house an 18.5″ barrel. A monolithic Picatinny top rail allows for the attachment of iron sights and/or optics, while M-LOK slots on the 3 and 9 o’clock positions of the forend allow for the attachment of accessories.

The TS12 features an ambidextrous design, with feed ramps placed on both the left and right of the weapon for loading shells into an empty mag tube, while the charging handle can be switched from the left to the right, with the use of a tool. A crossbolt safety is placed a bit above the pistol grip, which can also be reversed for left or right shooters, as can the ejection port.

IMG_0140

We had a bit of time with the TS12 at Range Day, and it’s a weapon that takes some getting used to, due to its design being a bit unique. Loading the tubes is simple: you load the shells into a mag tube, then depress a lever within the trigger guard (opposite the trigger) to unlock the drum to switch to a new tube. A round is automatically chambered when a fresh tube is switched to the top position. A button to the rear of the feed ramp can be depressed to eject shells from the mag tube. It’s a fairly hefty weapon with a large rubber buttpad, so it it absorbs recoil pretty well, and its semi-auto operation means you can throw a wall of lead down range pretty quickly, especially when you get used to transitioning to a new tube, after a bit of practice.

SHOT Show 2018 – ZRODelta Genesis Z9

Friday, January 26th, 2018

IMG_0423

The immediate thought when picking up the Genesis Z9 was “This looks and feels like an aluminum Gen 3 Glock.” Given the general look of the Z9, and the fact that there is a fair bit of parts compatibility with a stock Glock, it’s not an unfair assessment to make. However, given the wide degree of modularity the base frame offers, the Z9 is truly a pistol all its own.

Seen above is a near fully-stripped base module, which the rest of the pistol can be built around. Shooters can increase the length of the grip from carry to full, add a flared magwell, replace the back strap, and even replace the front strap to add or remove finger grooves.

IMG_0424

Additional modularity allows shooters to swap the dust cover between compact and full, or even a dust cover with an integrated compensator.

IMG_0428

ZRODelta is offering their own range of slides in carry, full, and long slide options. The optics cutout models can be paired with different mounting plates for a variety of common micro dots. Other Gen 3 slides, whether factory or aftermaket, are also compatible with the Z9.

SHOT Show 2018 – Mossberg 590M

Wednesday, January 24th, 2018

IMG_0462

The 590M is a box magazine-fed variant of the 590 shotgun. All the standard features of the 590 shotgun are present with the 590M (dual extrators, ambi safety, heavy-walled barrel, etc.), however the magwell features stabilizing ribs that engage with the magazine when loaded to ensure solid lock-up. The magazines for the 590M are manufactured by Adaptive Tactical, and come in 5, 10, 15, and 20-round capacities. They are a double-stack design, with hardened steel feed lips, overmolded grips, a self-lubricating polymer body, and an ASTM-A-228 music wire magazine spring.

The Mossberg 590M will be offered in both a standard and tri-rail model, the later of which includes a heat shield and ghost ring sights. Both models will come with a single 10-round magazine, and are currently in production.

SHOT Show 2018 – Franklin Armory Reformation

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2018

The wait is over, the mystery revealed on The Reformation, Franklin Armory’s ‘not-SBR’ that left everyone guessing.

IMG_0245

So, what allows it to defy NFA classification, despite its 11.5″ barrel and collapsible stock? It’s the barrel. Specifically, the Reformation line will feature Franklin’s NRS Barrel Technology. NRS, which stands for “Not a Rifle or Shotgun”, is a barrel with straight cut lands and grooves that retains a standard chamber. Because the barrel doesn’t impart spin on the projectile, the ATF decreed it doesn’t meet the definition of rifling, and as such the Reformation can’t be classified as a rifle or shotgun, short-barred or otherwise, only a ‘firearm’.

IMG_0244

What does this do to accuracy? Franklin claims to have tested 4 MOA accuracy with off-the-shelf ammo, but they’ve also developed fin and flare stabilized projectiles and ammo specifically for use with the Reformation, that offers near-MOA performance.

The initial Reformation firearms will be chambered in .300 BLK, with 5.56 to follow shortly after. Models without the BFSIII binary trigger will also be made available.

SHOT Show Industry Day At The Range – Glock

Monday, January 22nd, 2018

Glock had their new range of Gen 5 pistols out at range day, including the G19X, which is based on Glock’s entry for the US Army’s Modular Handgun System solicitation.

IMG_0130

Right off the bat, it’s fair to say that the G19X isn’t a true Gen 5 pistol. While it incorporates some of the Gen 5 changes, such as a dual finish slide, ambidextrous safety, and lack of finger grooves, in was developed specifically for the US Army’s solicitation. What this translates to, feature-wise, is:

A compact-size slide on a full-size frame
A removable lanyard loop
Tan-colored magazines
No front grip cutout

This lack of a cutout also means the new Gen 5 magazines are incompatible with the G19X, due to their larger floor plates, but older Gen magazines are good-to-go. Factory +2 floor plates also up the capacity to 19+1.

Elaborating on the aforementioned “dual finish slide”, much like the Gen 5 guns feature an nDLC finish, the G19X features an nPVD finish, with a color the rep was adamant should be referred to as ‘Coyote’; officially, it’s not Flat Dark Earth, Desert Tan, or any such variation, folks.

The trigger, noted in literature as featuring a smoother pull with a weight of 5.8 lbs., felt pretty similar to a standard Glock factory trigger, if a bit nicer. The factory night sights were clear and functional, and easy to point at the target. The full-size grip, derisive as it’s seen by some, felt good in the hand, with the lack of finger grooves contributing to the comfort.

6 different firearms. 9 different countries. One seriously cool custom gun. YouTuber V8 Merc created a 9mm rifle using an AK receiver, an SKS stock, a PPSH barrel shroud, a Saiga gas tube, a Yugo M76 bolt carrier, and Suomi KP/-31 drum mags (sadly limited to 10 rounds), plus some HK parts for the bolt assembly. It’s a dead ringer at 50 yards, and is one of the best-looking frankenguns I’ve personally seen.

Tnarmsco – Ghost Gun Lower Is Back

Wednesday, December 27th, 2017

Tennessee Arms Company has reintroduced their ‘Ghost Gun’ translucent polymer AR-15 lower for sale. These were originally available a few years back, and by Tnarmsco’s own admission were intended more as a novelty for teaching or showcase use, due to the inherent weakness of the translucent polymer.

I managed to crack open my original ‘Ghost Gun’ lower due to complications from installing the bolt release detent. Difficulty with installing that component was a fairly common issue with this lower, gleamed from a cursory internet search.

This time, the lowers are being offered only as complete assemblies, as “…the assembly process is slightly different with this lower compared to [Tnarmsco’s] standard lower receivers.” Given my above experience, having it come as a complete ‘drop-in’ assembly is a welcome option. Prospective buyers have their choice of standard Black furniture, or Magpul MOE furniture in a selection of colors.

Again, this is essentially a novelty item, so if you want one recognize exactly what you’re getting. Tnarmsco doesn’t recommend the ‘Ghost Gun’ lower for heavy use. Although they have tested it with a multitude of cartridges, from .22 LR up to .50 Beowulf, with no reported issues, and Sons of Liberty Gun Works even ran one full-auto during a testing phase, it’s not a lower you should beat into the ground.

Due to the nature of its construction, Tnarmsco offers a 45 day warranty for the ‘Ghost Gun’ lower.

One Million Sold And Counting – Henry Repeating Arms Reaches Historic Milestone – Serial Number One-Million

Iconic firearms manufacturer announces the production of the one-millionth Henry Lever Action .22 rifle in its 20th Anniversary year

BAYONNE, NJ – December 18, 2017 – Henry Repeating Arms, one of the leading firearms manufacturers in the United States announced that it has manufactured the one-millionth Lever Action .22 rifle- known as the model H001. As with all Henry firearms and any product that bears the Henry name, it is made in America and sold in over 30 countries worldwide.

The first Henry Lever Action .22 rifles started shipping in March of 1997 from their original factory in Brooklyn, New York. The model was introduced with the corporate motto, “Made in America and Priced Right.” The company moved production in September of 2008 to their current 110,000 sq. ft. facility in Bayonne, New Jersey. Over the years, several variations of the H001 were added including a youth model, a carbine with a large loop lever, octagon barreled editions, and additional calibers in .22 Magnum and .17 HMR. More than 2 million H001 series rifles have sold counting these variations. They are popular among firearms enthusiasts, in particular squirrel and varmint hunters, farmers, rimfire target shooters and “plinkers.” After 2 decades it still remains an exceptional value for consumers.

Anthony Imperato, President and owner of Henry Repeating Arms reminisces, “When I attended the SHOT Show in 1996 I displayed the prototype H001 on top of an 8-foot folding table. We didn’t have a big budget booth and it was a no-frills affair. I had no idea that it would go on to be a top seller, a staple of the firearms industry. My goal was to deliver value, quality, a smooth reliable action and of course, made in America.”

“This is the rifle that put Henry Repeating Arms on the map, energized the lever action market and resurrected the Henry name,” Imperato continues. “Hitting the one-million milestone validates that we have done something right. I couldn’t be more humbled by the incredible response and support Henry has received over the past two decades. I remain forever grateful to our customers, distributors, dealers and our employees.”
Auction will benefit organizations that support conservation, hunting, firearms safety, shooting sports programs and the 2nd Amendment

Recognizing the significance of Henry Repeating Arms’ milestone, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association of the firearms industry, selected the one-millionth H001 as the 2018 SHOT Show auction rifle. The historic gun is being auctioned now by the Hunting Heritage Trust on GunBroker.com and will conclude on Friday, January 26, 2018, the final day of the 2018 SHOT Show. All proceeds from the auction will fund organizations that support the shooting sports, hunting, conservation, firearms safety, and those who defend the Second Amendment and the right to keep and bear arms.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece of firearms history. And we have decided to make this one-millionth H001 ever more special and unique,” added Imperato. “This is the first-ever H001 to feature a silver-finished receiver, which distinguishes the rifle, and beautifies the custom hand-engraved scroll patterns. The rich engraving is completed with inlaid 24-carat gold and is set off exquisitely by the exhibition grade American Walnut stock.” This unique rifle was hand engraved by the artisans at Baron Engraving of Trumbull, CT.

Henry Repeating Arms is aiming to surpass the SHOT Show auction record of $136,014. This one-of-one rifle is available for sale at a public auction on Gunbroker.com. The auction will conclude on January 26, 2018.
