Monday, January 16th, 2017Bullet vs Prince Rupert’s Drop at 150,000 fps
Friday, December 30th, 2016YouTube Channel ‘Smarter Every Day‘ made up a video testing whether a .22 bullet was capable of shattering a Prince Rupert’s Drop, and recorded it a 150,000 fps using a high-speed camera.
Spoiler: the drop breaks, but it’s more to do with the resulting vibration caused by the bullet hitting the drop rather than the actual impact from the bullet.
Interesting, ain’t it?
A3 Tactical – Double Picatinny Clamp
Thursday, December 15th, 2016This little device is A3 Tactical’s Double Picatinny Clamp. As the name implies, the Double Picatinny Clamp is designed to mount one Picatinny rail to another, providing, as A3 states, “virtually limitless possibilities… only limited by your imagination” in regards to accessories, guns, and gear featuring Picatinny-spec rails, at least. It’s CNC machined from 6061 aluminum, and its design prevents fore/aft movement of the rails, as well as preventing marring of your rails thanks to dowels that are machined slightly taller than the industry-standard Picatinny groove.
Of course, A3’s Double Picatinny Clamp does also give you the option to attach entire firearms to one another, creating combinations such as this:

Bullets vs Propeller In Slow Motion
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016The Slo Mo Guys, in association with (and sponsorship from) EA, produced a video where they recorded slow motion footage of a machine gun and propeller setup. They first recorded footage where the synchronization gear was active, a mechanism which timed a plane-mounted machine gun to fire in-between the arc of a propeller’s blades, making plane-mounted machine guns viable during the Great War. The second bit of footage has the synchronization gear turned off, and it resulted in 4 hits to the propeller blades.
Neat stuff.
SIG SAUER Introduces the 1911 Max Michel BB Pistol
Wednesday, November 16th, 2016Newington, NH (November 16, 2016) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to introduce the 1911 Max Michel BB Pistol. Modeled after the 1911 Max centerfire pistol designed by World Speed Shooting Champion and Team SIG Captain, Max Michel, Jr., this CO2-powered, semi-automatic 1911-style BB pistol is a fun and useful training tool for shooters of all skill levels – from beginners to experts.
“When it comes to shooting, consistent training is invaluable, whether you are a member of law enforcement, the military or are a responsible citizen carrying to protect your family,” said Max Michel, Jr., captain of Team SIG. “Despite this, many people don’t have the time, opportunity or finances to train as much as they should. The 1911 Max Michel BB Pistol gives you the flexibility to train anywhere, anytime with measurable results. Dry fire training is always recommended, but can be boring and sometimes misleading. This is a great way for those who typically shoot a 1911-style pistol to work on accuracy, speed and drawing from concealment.”
The 1911 Max Michel BB Pistol fits in current 1911 holster systems and has the same weight and controls of a traditional 1911 firearm. It features a full-metal slide and frame with realistic blowback action of the metal slide. The 16-round magazine holds 4.5mm steel BBs and the trigger has the same styling and shape as the 1911 Max firearm. There is also a cam lever CO2 loading port for easy and quick loading of the 12gr CO2 cartridges. The .177 caliber 1911 Max Michel BB Pistol shoots up to 410 fps; however, velocity results may vary depending on temperature and altitude.
The 1911 Max Michel BB Pistol also gives newer shooters the ability to learn firearm safety and basic fundamentals in a controlled, comfortable, quiet, and safe environment. It removes the intimidation factor of the loud bang and recoil, leaving the newer shooter more confident and with a much better understanding of traditional firearms and their safe use.
“I’m a 10-year Army veteran and have been a pro shooter for nearly 20 years, and I enjoy shooting this BB pistol because it’s just incredibly fun,” said Michel. “Regardless of your shooting ability, practice with this BB pistol is a really enjoyable and affordable way to improve your skills. I love shooting with my kids and this provides a platform for me to teach them safely while building their confidence. In the next few years as they continue to progress into more traditional firearms, they will be much better prepared because of the training they are receiving with the 1911 Max Michel BB pistol.”
MSRP: $110.99

Batou’s Shotgun Is A Six12
Monday, November 14th, 2016This pic was sent over to me by SSD’s Admin, so I don’t know the origin. What I can say is, based on it being a pic of “Batou’s Shotgun”, it’s obviously a prop from the upcoming (and quite honestly craptastic-looking) Ghost in the Shell movie. It also happens to be a duded up Crye Precision Six12 rotary drum bullpup 12 gauge shotgun, which to be fair is a pretty futuristic-looking piece.
Edit: Google image search came up with this page: beagle-voyage.com/movie-ghost-in-the-shell-movie-props-2016.
There’s a few other prop weapons from the movie as well.
Pimp My Gun
Sunday, November 13th, 2016An oldie but a goodie, the Pimp My Gun app lets you create a custom firearm from an assortment of modern rifles and sub machine guns. You can go mundane, like my HK 416-esque creation above, or you can make something wild and wholly impractical. The choice is yours.
Update: HERA Arms CQR AR Stock And Forward Grip

California stock – $124.00
Normal stock – $119.00

Functional AR furniture can be had for less, to be sure, but these pieces are:
1) Imported from Germany
and

Plus, $158 (normal stock + grip) isn’t really as bad a price as it could have been for the whole set.
LAN World still hasn’t made an announcement regarding availability, so stay tuned for further info.
Lone Wolf – How A Glock Firing Cycle Works
Monday, November 7th, 2016If you’ve ever wondered how a Glock works during its firing cycle, then Lone Wolf, one of the leading purveyors of after-market Glock parts, has you covered. The above video is a 3D model representation of the Glock’s firing cycle, and it’s pretty comprehensive.
HERA Arms CQR AR Stock And Forward Grip
Friday, October 28th, 2016This unique stock and foregrip combination has been making the rounds across the internet, and to be honest it’s a bit mall ninja-ish, but at the same time it also manages to be really damn cool. Like, I need to make a ‘for fun’ build out of these parts cool. Ghost In The Shell, Shadowrun, cyberpunk cool, if I may be so bold.
The two components are called the CQR Stock and CQR Front Grip, and are the creation of Germany-based HERA Arms, a company which specializes in manufacturing weapons and weapons accessories. Utah-based LAN World is the current importer of HERA Arms components into the USA, and supposedly they’ll be offering the CQR parts in the coming months. I, assuredly like many others, eagerly await their availability.
They’re also making a Commiefornia compliant version, so if you have to neuter your rifle, at least it can be done in relative style.

Empty Shell, LLC – XM556 Microgun
Tuesday, June 28th, 2016The XM556 Microgun is a weapon currently under development by Texas-based company Empty Shell, LLC. The XM556 Microgun is designed as a defensive suppression weapon chambered for the 5.56mm NATO cartridge, and is based in concept and design on the M134 gatling gun system. Profile pictures on Empty Shell’s website show the XM556 Microgun as being shorter in length than a carbine-length AR-15 and even a PS90, so if anything else, it has a pretty compact profile going for it.
Stay tuned for more info on this weapon as it becomes available.
Cabot Guns – Meteorite Pistols
Wednesday, June 8th, 2016Cabot Guns’ Big Bang Pistol Set, also known as the Meteorite Pistols (insert some play on words about ‘Space-Age Materials’) are a unique set of two 1911s. They were made from an iron-nickel alloy obtained from a meteorite that crashed into what is now Gibeon, Namibia, billions of years ago. Reportedly, the pistols are valued at approximately $5 million, although it remains to be seen wether anyone is willing to pay that much for them.
You can find out more about the pistols at cabotgun.com

Who Wants A $2700 Civilian-Legal MP5K?

This guide will be a web-based “ulitmate resource for all things Kalashnikov.” It will function as a singluar place to compile an archive of information on Kalashnikov rifles and their variants, as well as encourage more Kalashnikov collectors, builders, and shooters. SHOT Show 2016 – X Products – .308 MUL
Friday, January 22nd, 2016The .308 MUL or Multi Use Launcher is a larger bore version of last year’s Can Cannon, designed to use .308 blanks rather than the .223 of the Can Canon. The .308 MUL is a complete upper assembly, and is SR-25 platform compatible. The reps at the booth even told me that it’s not recommended to launch soda cans from it, since the increased power of the .308 blank actually causes the soda can walls to rupture when launched; sounds cool to me! I would have loved to show you a picture of the .308 MUL, and the new grappling hook accessory, however the only sample models bought to SHOT this year were on display at the ‘New Products’ section, and unfortunately they don’t allow for photography there, even for press.
You’ll have to make due with this photo of the .223 Can Cannon, so it’s like this, just bigger and more powerful.
SHOT Show 2016 – Sun Devil Manufacturing
Wednesday, January 20th, 2016This is the “DOUBLE DEVIL” Twin AR (and yes, the caps are necessary). You may be wondering: “Why a monolithic billet twin side-by-side upper receiver?” Well, in all honestly, the reason is pretty much because they could.
As previously mentioned, the DOUBLE DEVIL consists of dual monolithic billet heavy wall twin upper receivers. The receivers feature 16″ chromoly barrels, with a 1:9 twist, free-floated modular handguards, and flat top Picatinny rails. The DOUBLE DEVIL is compatible with any standard AR-pattern lower receiver, of which two are needed, and fire completely independently of each other. It also comes with a billet bi-pod mount, and is pivot / traverse capable.
