YouTube Channel The Hacksmith created a thermal vision helmet inspired by the ones worn by the Predators/Yautja from the series of the same name. They accomplished this by utilizing several off-the-shelf camera and computer components, including a FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal censor pulled from a FLIR ONE Pro thermal imaging camera, and mating them to a Zeiss Cinemizer headset, all mounted within a Predator-themed motorcycle helmet cover. However, they didn’t stop there, as they also utilized a Wicked Lasers LaserCube with a custom 3D-printed shoulder mount to replicate the Predator’s laser cannon. The end result is a working helmet that can switch between various vision modes, and a shoulder-mounted laser that projects a triangular reticle, and can pop balloons almost instantly; in short, it’s pretty damn cool.
YouTube channel Miller Knives has released this video detailing a (fast forward) process for forging a karambit knife from an old drill bit. A bit of a warning: there’s a very sudden ad from about one minute in to about 1 minute, 45 seconds.
You can check out more of Miller Knives’ creations via their YouTube channel here.
YouTube channel The Q shows how, with 9 2L bottles, valves, pipes, clamps, a .5L bottle, and an air blow gun, you can make an airsoft machine gun with a fire rate around 600 shots/min.
YouTube channel FullMag shows what happens when you shoot a .50 BMG through a 12 gauge shotgun. Not from a shotgun, mind you, but literally aiming a Barrett .50 cal at a shotgun and shooting through the barrel.
Have you ever wondered how many punches Jason Statham has thrown through his various on-screen appearances? Well, YouTube channel Burger Fiction did, and as a result they put together this video showcasing every single time Statham has thrown a punch in a movie.
Yeah, posting this video is about a month too late to be completely topical, but Taiwan-based Next Media Animation’s take on just about anything is good for a quick laugh.
While I prep an article more appropriate for the content usually featured on this site, I offer this topical video explaining exactly why you should put all your faith in the Baltimore Ravens winning the Super Bowl later today.
This is a video combining all the footage I managed to capture (using my iPhone) at the 14th annual Wilson Family Fishing Trip (the Crye Precision yearly party) chariot races. All but the second-to-last race is featured, and *spoiler alert* Oakley takes home the Golden Helmet for the year.
The redband trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s latest film, ‘The Last Stand’, features over-the-top action, a bit of coarse language, and, most importantly of all, gratuitous violence. Looks like a winner to me.
A new trailer from the most impressive looking game featuring the ‘Aliens’ property since ‘Alien vs Predator’ on the Atari Jaguar. Gearbox Software looks to be doing the series proud, and if anything else it looks a lot better than ‘Alien 3’.
‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’ drops February 12th, 2012.
Yet another innovative UAV design, the HyTAQ robot was developed by the robotics lab at the Illinois Institute of Technology. It combines a quadrotor design with a rolling cage that allows for both terrestrial and aerial locomotion. This combination allows the HyTAQ to use the same actuator set and control system for both methods of locomotion. Additionally, due to its ability to switch between ground and air travel, the HyTAQ is capable of traveling four times greater and almost 6 times longer than an aerial-only system, and can simply fly over any obstacles it encounters on the ground.
Another one of Joerg Sprave’s fantastic custom crossbow creations, the “Stink Master 2000” is designed for the use of, what else, stink bombs. It’s a breach-loaded, pump-action slingshot crossbow that launches projectiles at 90 miles per hour a distance of 80-100 meters.
