Monday, January 7th, 2019

The Operational Briefcase is a method developed by H&K for security personnel to discretely carry a sub gun in business and executive environments. Ian of Forgotten Weapons not only demonstrates live fire of one of these briefcase firearms, but also briefly shows off an earlier model case that was a bit less discreet than the later/more modern ‘trigger handle’ version.

Standard Manufacturing – S333 Volleyfire

Saturday, January 5th, 2019

It’s SHOT month, so new firearms are filling up the news feed, but occasionally you see a gun that is so unique compared to the contemporary affair that you can’t help but give it notice. Standard Manufacturing’s S333 Voleyfire happens to be that gun. The S333 is a double-barrel, double-action revolver with a steel cylinder that holds 8 rounds of .22 Win Mag. The twin hammers are concealed within the aluminum frame, and the trigger consists of an enlongated bow sized for two fingers, along with an “integral articulated” trigger safety more akin to those seen on many modern striker-fired semi-auto pistols.

The S333 is designed specifically as a carry revolver, with its compact size and noted capability of producing an 8-round volley of shots within 3 seconds and 4 trigger pulls. Standard Manufacturing also notes that a combination of standard ammunition and birdshot “…will deliver an incredible combination of firepower and very light recoil.”

SOAR: Ride Along With The World’s Most Accomplished And Secretive Special Ops Aviation Unit

Friday, December 28th, 2018

Parker, CO, December 18, 2018—There are few of us who have experienced what Special Operations team members have felt during a perilous and secretive mission. David Burnett has and he’s chronicled it in his powerful memoir, Making a Night Stalker.

Burnett opens up the highly secretive world of the Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR), the most accomplished and secretive special ops aviation unit on the globe. The importance of teamwork and heroism are driven home to readers in taut prose that brings to life what it is like to be at the knife’s edge, knowing a moment of inattention can bring catastrophe to you and your closest comrades.

His journey starts in a conventional Army unit where he feels unfulfilled. The lack of responsibility drives him to pursue the goal of becoming an MH-47G Chinook helicopter crew chief in the world’s most secretive unit. Despite obstacles and endless training, he’s finally able to set foot on the aircraft. Achieving FMQ (Fully Mission Qualified) crew chief takes additional years of training and deployments, but after achieving the sought after role, he is honorably discharged from the military. Burnett also explores his PTSD, which drove him to alcohol. The beast was finally tamed through taking up writing, he said.

For those whose only experience of war has been through media headlines, Burnett’s book presents a vivid picture of the vaunted Special Operations Aviation unit and the toll it takes on its members.

Author David Burnett was born and raised in Parker, Colorado. After a few semesters of college, he enlisted in the Army in 2008. He was stationed with 563rd ASB as a 15U (Chinook helicopter repairer). After realizing his job in the regular Army was not as fulfilling as he had hoped, he applied for 160th SOAR. He went through countless years of training and deployed with the unit five times before deciding he wasn’t going to reenlist. He put pen to paper after receiving an honorable discharge from the unit and began writing his story.

More information on David Burnett can be found at www.makinganightstalker.com.

Sixteen 12 Collectables – UFO Collection

Monday, December 24th, 2018

UFO (pronounced you-foe, not you-eff-oh) was a British television series that premiered in 1970, detailing the efforts of the clandestine organization SHADO (Supreme Headquarters, Alien Defence Organisation), to defend the Earth against alien invaders. Not only is the premise great, but it also had an excellent opening theme.

In celebration of this classic TV show, Sixteen 12 Collectables is releasing a series of three collectable models of vehicles from the show: the Sky 1, S.H.A.D.O Mobile, and UFO Interceptor. The Sky 1 and Mobile are part of the ‘studio scale masterpiece’ collection, built to exacting detail, and limited to only 100 pieces worldwide. The UFO Interceptor is part of the ‘limited edition diecast collection’ and will consist of three (3) Interceptors per set, and will be highly-detailed in their appearance. The release date for all three vehicle sets is sometime in Fall 2019.

SSD – US Army Creates ESPORTS Team

Monday, December 17th, 2018

This article was originally featured on Soldier Systems Daily. Honestly, it’s too fitting not to cross post.

Here’s another opportunity for Soldiers to excel. US Army Recruiting Command has established an ESPORTS team.

According to MG Frank Muth, commanding general for USAREC the idea is to connect with potential recruits stating, “If we are going to be successful in recruiting, then we need to be where young people are — and they are operating in the digital world. There are already thousands of current Soldiers who are competitive online gamers. Now we are giving them a chance to use their talents to help us relate to and connect with other young gamers. They will have the ability to start a dialogue about what it is like to serve in our Army and see if they are interested in joining.”

Soldiers selected to the team will be assigned to the Marketing and Engagement Brigade at Fort Knox for three years and will involve constant competitive training, recruiting engagements and interaction with the public on a daily basis but will not become recruiters.

The team is expected to begin competing on behalf of the U.S. Army by summer 2019

All active-duty and Army Reserve Soldiers are eligible to apply. Interested Soldiers should visit recruiting.army.mil/army_esports to learn how to compete for a spot on the team.

MMX Vancouver – MMX Marshmallow Crossbow

Sunday, December 16th, 2018

TMMX Vancouver’s Marshmallow Crossbow is pretty self-explanatory: it’s a crossbow that’s designed to shoot marshmallows. Capable of firing dry, regular-sized marshmallows up to 60 feet, the Marshmallow Crossbow is made of “over 99% natural materials”, and looks pretty darn cool. The makers also recommend using corn starch on the projectiles for smooth firing, but also to produce a puff of “smoke” when fired, and also as a way to mark your targets.

Threezero – X-01 Power Armor Figure

Thursday, December 13th, 2018

If you’re a fan of Fallout, and pricey, highly-detailed collectable figures, then you may want to give threezero’s X-01 Power Armor figure a look. Standing in at 14.5″ tall, the X-01 Power Armor figure features 35 points of articulation, a highly-detailed male head, X-01 helmet with light-up LED function, and an Assaultron Blade.

What’s really cool about this figure is the X-01 armor pieces can be complete removed, revealing an equally-detailed endoskeleton. Plus, the armor parts are swappable with all previous threezero Fallout Power Armor figures, so you can make your figure look like your Power Armor in-game, like when you only have three pieces of X-01 armor and have to fill in the empty slots with T-60 and T-51 parts. Not that I’m speaking from experience, or anything.

NERF Zombie Strike Ripchain

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018

Honestly, the zombie craze peaked years ago, but that doesn’t stop NERF’s Zombie Strike from having some cool blasters, and the Ripchain is no exception. The Ripchain is a fairly bulky, pump-action blaster with the typical ‘Zombie Strike’ aesthetic: neon green and orange body, pistol grip that looks like it’s wrapped with hockey tape, etc. The Ripchain’s namesake is the unique ‘chain’ ammo belt feeding mechanism, which loads up to 25 darts. It comes with 25 of the neon green zombie-themed darts, but can also load any standard-sized NERF blaster darts. But the best part? It has slamfire capability, so you can hold that trigger down and just keep slamming darts away, like a trench gun.
