Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

DSC07161

Maglula is showing off their UpLULA universal pistol magazine loaders in four new colorways: DarkGreen, OrangeBrown, Lemon, and Purple. The sales materials state these colors are “beautiful”, “unique”, and perhaps the largest benefit, “…will stand out in a range bag.”

Additionally, Maglula has also announced that they’re planning on releasing the BabyUpLULA, which is their .22 LR – .380 ACP loader, in Purple, as well as the AR15/M4 StripLULA for RUAG gray stripper clips.

SHOT Show 2016 – American Tactical GSG MP-40 9mm Pistol

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

DSC07116

American Tactical imports the German Sport Guns brand here in the States, and one of the cooler-looking models they released was a .22 LR variant of the MP-40 SMG. Stopping by their booth, I noticed that they plan to release a pistol-variant chambered for the original 9mm Luger, and thankfully they had a model on display.

No word on when it’ll be available, so stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.

SHOT Show – Industry Day At The Range – SilencerCo Maxim 9

Tuesday, January 19th, 2016

Admin says they should have called it the 'Lawgiver'

SilencerCo brought along the latest iteration of the Maxim 9 to their booth at Industry Day at the Range. The original Maxim 9 was built upon the Smith & Wesson M&P, more-or-less due to “[SilencerCo] having a lot of them sitting around”. This new Maxim 9 is, by comparison, a SilencerCo design, albeit in a prototype form. This is partially apparent from the 3D printed lower frame, and because of it being a prototype, none of the attendees were allowed to test fire it; a live fire demonstration by a SilencerCo employee was made, however, and we’ll upload footage from that for the readership soon.

DSC06960

Getting back to the pistol itself, it sports a number of impressive changes and upgrades from the initial prototype. First, it now utilizes Glock 17 magazines, which is great for obvious reasons. Adding on to the Glock compatibility, the irons are designed to be replaceable with any Glock-compatible sights. Additionally, it sports a 3.5″ barrel, a quick-action/safe-action-style trigger, the slide catch/stop/release is ambidextrous, and SilencerCo told us they plan to make the mag release ambi as well.

DSC06959

Adding to the changes, the Maxim 9 now features removable baffles much like the Salvo 12 and Osprey Micro, which allows users to shorten the overall profile of the Maxim 9. SilencerCo also told us they are making further refinements to the design, including the development of a method to allow for the mounting of a light and/or laser.

We heard the Maxim 9 may be available as soon as quarter 4 this year, so be on the lookout for more info as it becomes available.

Shooting A .50 Cal Down A Shotgun Barrel

Saturday, January 9th, 2016

Building A Live-Ammo-Firing Han Solo Blaster

Wednesday, December 9th, 2015

blaster

In an article written for NRA Shooting Illustrated, author Bob Boyd details the process of building a live fire version of Han Solo’s iconic DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol, easily recognizable as having been based on a Mauser C96 pistol. It’s a good read, detailing the cost and methods behind procuring and installing the necessary components to make the DL-44 replica as movie accurate as possible. Now the question is, who’s willing to track down a Sterling SMG and make it into a convincing, live firing E-11 replica?

SilencerCo – Maxim Vice

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015

SilencerCo recently released this 80s-inspired pseudo-parody of Miami Vice which shows off their new Maxim 9 integrally suppressed pistol. It’s a real steel gun, but I wouldn’t be shocked if a unique design like that ends up with an airsoft version sometime in the future.

Forgotten Weapons Takes A Look At The Pancor Jackhammer

Wednesday, September 9th, 2015

Forgotten Weapons had the extremely rare opportunity to take a look at the only existing working model of the Pancor Jackhammer automatic shotgun. Due to its futuristic design, its been featured in myriad video games and more than a few films and television shows, but only three working models were ever produced, with the other two having been destroyed some time ago.

Snake River Shooting Products and Consulting Inc. Announces Drone Munition Now Shipping

Monday, August 17th, 2015

Last time I featured anti-drone shotshells on this site, they were a joke. But now, Snake River Shooting Products is producing real anti-drone shotshells. The full release can be read below:

Emmett, Idaho (August 2015)- Snake River Shooting Products and Consulting Inc. (SRSP) is excited to announce Drone Munition shot shell based defense rounds are now shipping. The rounds are a 12 gauge 3″ shot shell solution aimed at defending against drone-based privacy concerns and terror!

Drones, or light quad-copters, are one of the best-selling new gadgets on the market, and were among the top new Christmas gifts given in 2014.

Stories about drones are hitting the news daily in both positive and negative light. While a great product idea, unfortunately, drones have a tremendous potential for misuse and these misuses have been happening more and more frequently. With the ability to carry on board cameras, drones have been and are being used for spying on unsuspecting neighbors and others without their permission. With little regulation surrounding drone use, there is much confusion about what a person may do to defend against drone threats.

Recently, a gentleman shot down a drone that was spying on his daughter sunbathing near their pool in the backyard. There is an ongoing investigation as to whether it was a legal area to discharge a short range firearm. With this in mind, it is imperative the laws of proper firearm use are followed when using this product.

Anti-drone ammo

In addition to privacy concerns, drones can endanger people with weapons or explosives mounted to them. Recently a man announced and demonstrated in a YouTube video how he had mounted a GLOCK pistol to a drone and devised a system that allowed him to remotely fire it. Drones have also been documented flying dangerously close to commercial aircraft, and the threat is becoming more and more real for them to be used for acts of terrorism.

Drone Munition was created to provide defense against the danger caused when drones are misused. Drone Munition is lead free, safe for the environment and provides a very high quality load that will effectively disable a drone encroaching your property’s airspace. As a side note, the round also makes for a very high end hunting load for ducks, geese or turkeys.

Our friends at Lucky Gunner will be carrying the Drone Munition loads in both 2 shot and BB. Ammo can be purchased by visiting www.luckygunner.com. Several distributors including Axelson Tactical and Texas Ammo Group will be carrying Drone Munition. Dealers can reach out to these distributors or directly to our office to track down this great new product. SRSP will also be offering a line of merchandise to include T-shirts, targets and hats featuring the Drone Munition brand.

SRSP, who already manufactures Lone Survivor Marcus Luttrell’s Team Never Quit ammunition line, sees the Drone Munition line as a fantastic compliment to its products. “We are very excited to be manufacturing a product focused on defending our freedoms. We see this line as a game changer in the industry and as an important defense against rising threats to our way of life,” stated Casey Betzold, president of Snake River Shooting Products.

Apemania – ‘Planet Of The Apes’ 10/22 Tribute Stock

Friday, July 3rd, 2015

1968_1022_04_TITLED

Make-up & Monsters Studios, under their ‘Apemania – A tribute to Planet of the Apes’ line, has produced a limited number of tribute stocks based on the gorilla carbine featured in the 1968 film ‘Planet of the Apes’, fitted for a Ruger 10/22 receiver and barrel. Pretty damn cool, although that extended magazine well looks like it might make loading smaller capacity magazines a bit of a chore.

They also offer a tribute stock fitted for an M1 Carbine, based on the carbine featured in ‘Beneath the Planet of the Apes’.

Jurassic World Utilizes Crimson Trace Laser Sights

Tuesday, June 16th, 2015

Crimson Trace has revealed that their Rail Master (CMR-201s) laser sights were used in the recently released Jurassic World movie. The full release can be read below:

Jurassic World Crimson Trace laser

(Wilsonville, OR) — Anyone viewing the mega blockbuster movie—Jurassic World— will notice the very prominent red laser sights on the firearms used by the InGen rangers when they encounter an escaped and deadly dinosaur. The movie’s firearms used in the dark jungle night encounter were equipped with standard Crimson Trace Rail Master (CMR-201s) laser sights and not created movie prop productions. Those specially selected movie laser sights are among the nearly 200 products manufactured by Crimson Trace.

“Early on in the Pre-Production of Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World,” when the time came for us to outfit the elite InGen team with laser sighting devices to regain control of the park, only one company came to mind—Crimson Trace,” said Guillaume Delouche, the movie’s Property-Master. “Crimson Trace’s line of lasers is not only versatile, it is literally perfect for movie prop applications. We are able to fit them onto our collection of real—and stunt—firearms for an authentic tactical feel throughout every sequence.”

Crimson Trace frequently works with top Hollywood and New York prop companies and movie production crews across America. Those skilled groups are learning through firearms manufacturers, law enforcement and military units, plus from active shooters who are movie consultants, about the benefits of laser sights for firearms. As many movies are planned in detail—such as Jurassic World was—Crimson Trace is contacted about working with the prop and production company staff to determine the firearms to be used and the compatible Crimson Trace products available. Today, more of those decisions for the filming centers on determining whether they want green or red laser sights. Crimson Trace offers a wide selection of both.

A special Jurassic World movie premier event was held in Bozeman, Montana in partnership with the Museum of the Rockies — www.museumoftherockies.org. Key movie stars, industry media members, along with several Crimson Trace partner companies, attended the special movie premier and series of related events. The media members represented some of the nation’s top firearms publications, including: NRA Family Insights, SHOT Business, The Outdoorwire, Gun World, Harris Publishing and others. This event also included touring BLACKHAWK! and FLIR Systems facilities in Montana.

SHOT Show 2015 – Magpul – Dyed Magazines

Sunday, February 1st, 2015

DSC05305

In case you didn’t know, Magpul introduced the new Sand color for their M3 PMAGs. These new mags are not only stronger than the original black M3 PMAGs, but they’re also much more receptive to water-based dye processes, allowing for a greater range of colors. Over at the Magpul booth, Jon Canipe was kind enough to line up the dye jobs they came up with just in time for the show. I gotta say that the pink came out pretty damn good.
