Rock Island Armory Introduces Sleek New Look For Legendary 1911’s
September 9th, 2013Pahrump, NV – Rock Island Armory, the world’s largest seller of 1911 pistols, has introduced a new look for their entire line of popular handguns. Guided by customer feedback and a shift to provide a more streamlined look, Rock Island Armory has moved their logo from the side of the slide to the back of the slide displaying the distinctive Rock Island Armory logo. The company is now shipping all 1911 pistols with the new look.
“Two of the things that are important to us are staying true to the legendary standard platform of the 1911 and the second is listening to our customers,” said Martin Tuason, President of Rock Island Armory. “We were ready to refresh the look of our pistols and we heard a lot of feedback that the subtle change to a smaller logo at the back of the slide would give our 1911’s a more distinctive and streamlined look.”
The new visual change to the company’s 1911 pistols follows on the heels of the addition of rubber grips to the 1911 Tactical Series. Rock Island Armory’s global lineup of 1911 pistols includes the GI, Tactical, 2011 Tactical, Match, MAP/MAPP and the company’s revolutionary TCM series.

Gerber Gear Round Up – Bear Grylls Compact Compass
September 8th, 2013Gerber gear offers a selection of knives, flashlights, belts, and other survival tools for the outdoorsman. We purchased a small variety of Gerber survival tools, and put them to the test with our own weekend warriors, our three Boy Scouts. The rules were simple. They could select any of the products that wanted but had to write about their impressions.
Each week, we’ll feature a new Gerber product review written by one of the Scouts.
The Bear Grylls Compact Compass is a small survival compass. It has a convenient zipper pull lanyard that allows for attachment to a jacket zipper or key chain. The body is made from a durable plastic.
I think the Compact Compass is great. It is light, durable, and convenient. I kept it attached to my jacket zipper so I could find my proper heading any time I needed. One thing I don’t like about it is you can’t use it in the dark very well because the compass face doesn’t glow.

Chromecast
September 7th, 2013Chromecast is an inexpensive device that allow you to stream from your computer directly to your television over your Wi-Fi connection. Actually, while that’s true, there are some restrictions. Specifically, Chromecast is designed to work best with certain devices and certain services/programs: if you want to stream YouTube, Google Play videos, or Netflix from your iOS, android, or computer you’re completely covered. Also, true to its name, it’s specific to the Chrome browser, so if your running it from your computer you’ll have to do all your surfing using Chrome for the device to work.
In my experience, you could project virtually any website to your tv if you wanted, although the stream to screen ratio was far from 1:1; lowering the stream quality from 720p to 480p helped a bit. You can almost get away with running ‘third party media players’ like Vimeo for a few seconds to a few minutes, until the stream decides to crash on you and you have to restart it. Overall, if you’re a Netflix or YouTube junkie without a game console or blu-ray player capable of streaming these services to your television, this might be the solution you’re looking for.
Coming Soon To An MRE Near You
September 7th, 2013A collaborative effort between an Italian chocolate maker and Italian beer maker has spawned the potentially unholy, potentially delicious concoction known as spreadable beer. Described as “…sweet and beer-perfumed jelly with an intense scent and a full-bodied taste”, it comes in Omid Dark Ale and Greta Blonde Ale flavors, perfect for pairing with your favorite “…hors d’oeuvres and cheeses, or spread on toast or as a stuffing or garnish for tarts and cakes.” Here’s a bit of a throwaway fact: both flavors are made with 40% beer (for that authentic beer taste).
And Now For Something Completely Different (And NSFW)
September 6th, 2013
Take a good look at this S&W .357 Model 19 revolver. Notice anything, besides the impressive engraving, I mean? The seller describes this as a revolver “… for the discerning collector of erotica”, done by a renown engraver in Germany. The grips are made of pre-1989-ban elephant ivory, and are carved to be shaped as a… certain part of the male anatomy. The bid for this unique piece is currently at a penny short of $7000, with a buy now price of $7500; somebody really wants this gun. There are more images at the bidding page, for those who are curious.
NERF Rebelle Line
September 6th, 2013The NERF Rebelle line is a series that consists of rebranded blasters and accessories to better appeal to young girls. The line features products colored with light pinks, purples, and whites and darts with light colors and special designs. I have no problem whatsoever with young girls playing with NERF blasters (they can be a lot of fun), but do girls already playing with blasters even care about the branding? And does Hasbro expect to draw in girls that don’t play with blasters because these happen to look ‘pretty’? Maybe I’m wrong and they’ll be a big hit, but it just sees kinda silly to me.
Robocop Reboot Trailer
September 6th, 2013The cast is solid, but somehow Robocop looks even stupider in this reboot than the original did. Plus, they couldn’t bring back Kurtwood Smith and his gang to shoot Murphy into a bloody smear again? It just had to be a car bomb, didn’t it.

Plano Hunting – Parallel Limb Bow Case, Model 1144
September 5th, 2013Plano, IL (September 5, 2013) – Today’s modern compound bows come in just about every size and shape imaginable, often making it as difficult to choose the right bow case to fit your new bow as it was to pick out the perfect bow itself. Solving the bow case dilemma is Plano, the longtime outdoor gear storage experts introducing the Plano Parallel Limb Bow Case, model 1144.
The new Plano case is rectangular and measures 43” x 17” x 9.5”, making it a good shape and size for conveniently storing in a variety of spaces ranging from a bedroom closet to the back of a vehicle. From there, features just continue to get even better.
Since Plano is the industry leader in plastic injection, you know the product is built to last in its USA manufacturing facility. And the case’s latches are of the cam-action type that close and secure the lid tightly, with two in the front and one on each side. A proven O-ring seal is located around the full perimeter of the case and resists water and dust entry.
With an interior depth of 7”, the case is deep enough to accommodate many bows with quivers and arrows. The bow is held in place by positioning the three nylon tie wraps included to any of a number of locations for securement.
The real flexibility of the model 1144 comes in the ability to position Plano’s patented crush-proof PillarLock system supports as needed to fit whatever bow is in the case. The peg-and-hole design of both the interior lid and bottom allows placement of the two movable pillars so that top and bottom pieces of each are seated together to form a rigid support structure upon closing the case. Dense pluck foam accommodates pillar placement.
Two other items also come with the case: a six-arrow holder that attaches to the inside of the lid, and a Plano model 1309 archery utility box that is ideal for carrying nocks, field points, string wax and other accessories inside the bow case.
The new Plano Parallel Limb Bow Case is stylish in its black construction with yellow latches and a yellow comfort-grip carrying handle.

NERF Zombie Strike Hammershot
September 4th, 2013We just picked up the second in the Zombie Strike line, the Hammershot blaster. It’s a single-action revolver with a five dart capacity. The top rail lets you use other N-Strike accessories, and it features Zombie Strike branding, including the obligatory taped-up post-apocalyptic grip; still too colorful for my tastes, but it is a toy for kids so that’s just me being nitpicky. It shoots pretty far and despite being single-action you’ll still go through the limited capacity fairly quickly; the trigger’s also pretty sensitive. It’s a Target exclusive, so you can pick one up there.
