Star Trek Into Darkness Starfleet Phaser Limited Edition Gift Set

Tuesday, July 30th, 2013

Star Trek Into Darkness is coming out for home release soon, and Amazon is offering an exclusive blu-ray set that comes with a replica starfleet phaser. Made using the same molds Quantum Mechanix used when creating the prop phasers for the movie, the replica phaser is made from solid polystone core enrobed in metal plating with several finishes — brushed aluminum, gun metal, and chrome. The replica is spring-loaded with an active locking mechanism that allows the phaser to be switched from stun to kill. Too bad they aren’t selling the replica separate.

Nike Air Max Spring/Summer Camouflage Collection

Monday, July 29th, 2013

Nike has released a new line of Air Max sneakers in various camouflage patterns for the Spring/Summer season. It turns out the camouflages are even based on actual patterns fielded by the armed forces of various nations: the Air Max 1 and Air Max BW use a US/French camo hybrid, the Air Max 90 and 97 use an Italian camo, the Air Max 1 the Air Max 180 uses a German pattern, and Japanese and British patterns can be found on Air Max 90 and 95s.

Go Ape Treetop Adventure Course

Monday, July 29th, 2013

Go Ape Treetop Adventure Courses are a chain of treetop obstacle courses where you’re secured to lines using a harness and pulley system, with a zip line at the end of every course. Running through the entire thing generally takes between 2-3 hours and there are splits in many of the courses with different obstacles for different skill levels. There’s also a junior course for the little guys. I went to the Freedom Park location in Williamsburg on Saturday and had a great time with the family. Plus, Go Ape contributes a portion of their proceeds and stewardship services to the parks they’re located in.

The Bounty Hunter Code: From The Files Of Boba Fett

Sunday, July 28th, 2013

Seems to be missing a chapter on how not to fall into a Sarlacc pit

The Bounty Hunter Code: From The Files of Boba Fett is an in-universe manual that describes the aspects of being a bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe. Included with the deluxe edition is the 48-page memoirs of Cradossk, former head of the Bounty Hunters Guild, a Kamino saberdart, Boba’s own captain’s license and arms permit, Slave I’s official operating license, a Han Solo Imperial wanted poster, and an inventory slip from the Rebel Alliance forces who discovered and seized the property. As a neat feature, the case is interactive and requires button presses and the insertion of a data card to access the book within.

You can pre-order from Amazon.com here.

The Invisible Man Kit – Optics Planet

Friday, July 26th, 2013

This seemingly tongue-in-cheek but completely real package from Optics Planet includes a wide variety of products, including thermal and night vision optics, scopes and red dot sights, tactical clothing and gear, and hunting scent cloaks. Technically, this kit is a bargain, with the sum total of the items exceeding the $20,000 price point, so if you’re in the market for everything available with the kit, this might be one of your better options.

ARMA 3 – Beta Trailer

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

For the uninitiated, the ARMA series has always worked more towards being a combat simulator than an arcade-style shooter like the more recent Call of Duty titles and (to a lesser extent) Battlefield.

Lifesaver Jerrycans

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

The Lifesaver Jerrycan is capable of holding up to 18.5 liters of water at a time, and can produce up to 10,000 liters of water through the life of the device. The Jerrycan uses an activated carbon filter that reduces a broad spectrum of chemical residues and contaminates; a single filter lasts for 500 liters. Lifesaver’s own FAILSAFE technology deliberately increases the number of pumps required to induce water flow as the device reaches the end of its filtration capacity, and makes it impossible to flow water when the cartridge needs replacing. The Jerrycan also features a flow rate of 3 liters per minute and can be used with an optional shower attachment which plugs on and off in seconds. A 20,000 liter variant is also available.

Survivorman Comic Book

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013

Les Stroud is getting his own comic book to be released this Fall, based on the Survivorman television show. ‘Survivorman: The Horn of Providence’, which involves Les ‘Survivorman’ Stroud chasing down a stolen artifact from American history, sounds a bit more Indiana Jones than the standard Survivorman affair. The story is being written by Dusty McGowen, with Brian Lucey and Matt Lesniewski on art, and is being published by Blue Water Comics.

InteliScope App And Mount – Hands-On

Monday, July 15th, 2013

The folks at InteliScope, LLC were kind enough to send us a prototype tactical mount and access to their beta app. The tactical mount secures snugly to a standard picatinny rail. Although it wasn’t included, an additional component would allow the mount to be attached to a Nerf N-Strike rail. The mount comes with three cases, sized for an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPod touch. The cases are made from a hard, lightweight plastic and feature 32 square holes on the back that allow the device to attach to the mount.

The InteliScope app allows the device to function like a red dot sight, with an enhanced HUD. Given that the app’s purpose is largely as a training aid, virtually all aspects of the HUD can be changed: the zero, the reticle style and color, ballistics and firearm data, and whether certain elements are even visible on the screen. The app uses the iPhone/iPod’s on board light as a flashlight which can be used with a strobe function. Additional features include a shot timer, the ability to record range sessions to video, up to 5X digital zoom, and even local GPS coordinates and local wind direction and speed.

The InteliScope is currently available for iPhone 4S and 5; the Android version will be available in September.
