Modern Budō In Full Production: Get Your Samurai On

Tuesday, March 29th, 2016

Like samurai shirts? Yeah you do. The Mad Duo does too. They’re now nine kinds of chuffed to let everyone know the Modern Budō (“Tactical Samurai”) design is in full production after the initial test run sold out in just a couple of days. The Samurai shirt, a part of the Anachrobellum lineup with the support of Breach-Bang-Clear, has proven to be the fastest selling one to date (including even the various versions of American Jedi).

The Modern Samurai from Anachrobellum

The design is currently available only in black, in sizes ranging from Small to 3XL.

Why the Samurai? Of all the warrior archetypes in the world, none is perhaps more recognizable than that of the Samurai. The word Samurai is derived at least in part from the word saburau, which means “to serve.” That’s fitting enough, particularly in the modern context and even more so with regard to how we regard the warrior ethos. There’s nothing wrong with a little ego in a fighting man, quite the contrary — but if that ego is not subordinated to some sense of the greater good (serving your country, serving your community, sticking up for those weaker than you), well, then…you’re probably just an asshole and you don’t deserve to wear this shirt anyway.

This particular Samurai is carrying some things Minamoto Tametomo and Miyamoto Musashi wouldn’t recognize — Mk17, PEQ15, OSS Suppressor, S&S Precision Manta strobe and the like — but they’d understand the philosophy behind it.

“In China there was once a man who liked pictures of dragons, and his clothing and furnishings were all designed accordingly. His deep affection for dragons was brought to the attention of the dragon god, and one day a real dragon appeared before his window. It is said that he died of fright. He was probably a man who always spoke big words but acted differently when facing the real thing.” (Yamamoto Tsunetomo, c. 1700)

Pick one up at www.anachrobellum.com or find them on Instagram, @anachrobellum. Check out the Modern Viking version, and watch for our homage to Roger’s Rangers coming very soon.

Dells Zombie Outbreak

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016

Dells Zombie Outbreak is a “live action zombie experience” based out of Wisconsin Dells Parkway, Wisconsin. Participants travel through a apocalyptic military base swarming with zombies, firing what looks to be light sensor guns at specialized receiver targets placed on the zombie’s heads.

To give you an idea what it’s like, check out the video below:

They’re supposed to be opening a new location in Orlando soon. Considering I’ll be traveling that way later this year, it might be worth stopping in, and seeing how it compares to the Knott’s Scary Farm Special Ops: Infected attraction.

System Shock Remake Pre-Alpha Footage

Thursday, March 17th, 2016

While still a great game, and honestly still scary, System Shock hasn’t aged that well in the visual department, which is why it’s pretty cool Night Dive Studios is remaking the original game.

For comparison, take a look at the trailer for System Shock: Enhanced below:

Captain America: Civil War Trailer 2

Thursday, March 10th, 2016

For those who haven’t seen the trailer yet, I’m going to spoil a bit right out the gate: we finally get our first glimpse of Spider-Man as he’ll appear in Civil War. In the comics, Spider-Man joined the Pro-Registration side, AKA sided with Tony Stark, and was convinced to reveal his secret identity to the world. While I doubt that will happen in this film, I’m still eager to see how the cinematic version of Civil War plays out. Maybe the Anti-Registration forces led by Cap will come out on top instead.

DOOM – Official Multiplayer Trailer

NERF Zombie Strike – Crosscut Blaster

Tuesday, March 8th, 2016

We just got one of the new Zombie Strike Crosscut blasters at TFB headquarters. It’s a 2-in-1 gun, part NERF, part spinning foam saw of doom; think a kid-friendly Lancer from Gears of War. The spinning saw action, as it is made of foam, doesn’t really hurt, but if you catch someone on the “blades” correctly, it can sting a tiny bit.

Nixon Watches – Star Wars Collection – Boba Fett

Monday, March 7th, 2016

Nixon Watches has released a collection of Star Wars-themed watches and accessories. As is usual, I’m focusing largely on the gear themed after the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter, although Nixon’s offerings extend to other themes, such as R2-D2, Darth Vader, and Stormtroopers, as expected.

A-10 Backpack

The A-10 Backpack is a top loading pack made of distress PU coated canvas, in a colorway resembling Boba Fett’s outfit. The main storage compartment features zipper closure and internal organization, and the pack also sports two vertical front accessory pockets, a side entry laptop compartment, and stretch mesh side pockets. Plus, it comes with a Han Solo in carbonite zipper pull.

Ranger SW

The Ranger SW watch, in ‘Boba Fett Red / Gray’, features Miyota Japanese quartz 3-hand movement, and a 44mm, 10 ATM custom stainless steel case. Additional features include a unidirectional stainless steel bezel, a date window at 6 o’clock, and maroon metallic anodized aluminum bezel inlay with orange Boba Fett kill stripe detailing.
