Nerf Ultra Two Motorized Blaster

Sunday, May 31st, 2020

The NERF Ultra Two is part of Hasbro’s latest line of NERF blasters, named after their new “Farthest flying NERF darts ever!”, the Ultra dart. The blaster is battery powered, and fires from an enclosed, rear-mounted “fast-back” 6-dart cylinder. To fire, you hold down an acceleration button which powers the on-board motor, then the trigger to fire a dart. This blaster also features a nondescript accessory rail along the 12 and 6 o’clock positions of the frame, however none of the official product descriptions note whether these rails are compatible with existing NERF N-Strike accessories, however given how similar the rails look, I’d hazard a guess and say, yes, they do.

The Ultra dart itself features a new aerodynamic design, with stabilizing “Aerofin Technology” on the rear of the dart, along with a segmented lightweight foam and a newly designed flight tip. According to Hasbro, these darts are capable of firing out to 120 ft (or 36m for our international friends), although results may vary.

Available wherever NERF products are sold.

Sideshow Collectables – Hot Toys IG-11 1/6 Scale Collectable Figure

Sunday, May 24th, 2020

‘The Mandalorian’ is, save ‘Rogue One’, the only salvageable thing to come out of Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars property. That’s why it’s actually worth taking a look at Sideshow Collectables and Hot Toy’s IG-11 1/6 Scale figurine. Based on the IG-11 Bounty Hunter droid featured as a character in ‘The Mandalorian’, the IG-11 figurine comes in at roughly 14″ tall, with over 29 points of articulation, including an enhanced waist articulation which allows for a full 360 degree spin, just like in the show. The metallic grayish-black armor exterior is painted with accurate weather effects, and molded with precise pipe and wire details, and the mechanical head piece features LED light-up function. The IG-88 figure comes complete with the following accessories:

  • One (1) pair of articulated mechanical graspers
  • One (1) heavy blaster
  • One (1) blaster rifle
  • One (1) leather-like double shoulder belt with ammo pouches
  • Specially designed desert-themed figure stand with Star Wars logo and character nameplate

Noah Gragson’s No. 9 Xfinity Series Car to Feature TrueTimber® Camo for NASCAR’s Return to Racing

    Tuesday, May 19th, 2020

INMAN, S.C. – May 19, 2020 – Noah Gragson’s JR Motorsports number 9 paint scheme featuring sponsors TrueTimber, Bass Pro Shops and Black Rifle Coffee Company will be showcased Tuesday night, May 19, at Darlington Raceway as NASCAR returns to the track following COVID-19. Gragson brought home a victory at Daytona earlier this year in the car featuring TrueTimber Viper Urban camo and looks to bring home another top finish. The race is set for 8:00 p.m. ET with no fans, only essential personnel and will be shown live on FS1.

“While we are dealing with the unprecedented circumstances associated with COVID-19 and the road to recovery, it is great to see that NASCAR is able to get back to the track,” said TrueTimber CEO Rusty Sellars. “Noah has had a great season so far and we are looking forward to what he can do in the future. JRM is a fantastic partner and we love seeing Bass Pro Shops, Black Rifle Coffee and TrueTimber come together on this awesome car.”

After four races in the 2020 season, Gragson sits sixth in the NXS standings with one win, two top five finishes, three top 10s and has led 44 laps total. Gragson will be accompanied by three other JR Motorsports drivers including Michael Annett, Justin Allgaier and Daniel Hemric for Tuesday night’s race. In 35 previous starts at Darlington, JRM has earned two wins, eight top five finishes and 20 top 10s.

“It’s going to be weird experiencing a race without fans, but we plan to put on a great show so that everyone watching on TV has something to be excited about,” said Gragson.

In Search of Tomorrow – The Definitive 80’s Sci-Fi Documentary (Official Trailer)

    Sunday, May 17th, 2020

80s Sci-Fi movies get a bit of play here on this site, so it seemed appropriate to bring up a 4 hour documentary on the very subject. ‘In Search of Tomorrow’ is intended as the “Definitive 80’s Sci-Fi documentary”, consisting of “interviews with actors, directors, writers, SFX experts, and composers” of these beloved films.

Movies such as Escape from New York (one of my personal favorites, if it wasn’t clear), Predator, Aliens, RoboCop, The Wrath of Kahn, and much more will be the focus of the documentary. Cast and crew alike have been interviews, discussing the characters, special effects, production design, socio/political context, and legacy of these films, so it’s shaping up to be a pretty comprehensive documentary.

It’s currently up for funding on Kickstarter, but has blown past it’s initial goal of $40,000 and is currently up to a bit over $520k at the time of writing, with only 10 hours to go on the campaign – this one’s a sure thing.

All the same, you can check out the link below to pledge to the campaign, maybe have your name as part of the credits:

First Colorado Agency Implements Viridian Gun Cameras

    Tuesday, May 12th, 2020

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – May 11, 2020 – The Kit Carson County Sheriff’s Office has deployed the FACT Duty™ Weapon-Mounted Camera (WMC™). Sheriff Tom Ridnour has been working to equip his force for modern policing over the last year. Every sworn deputy of the Eastern Colorado county now has a Weapon-Mounted Camera in the field to compliment body cameras.

The rural force is responsible for patrolling over 2,000 square miles that includes the border with Kansas. Sheriff Ridnour has been working to implement Viridian gun cameras, and was able to get them deployed on March 1 of this year. That timing coincided with the first time footage from Viridian’s gun camera was used in an officer-involved shooting (OIS) trial in Texas. A jury quickly convicted the defendant of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public official. The WMC provided the critical evidence in the case by showing the defendant pointing a sawed-off shotgun at Vernon, Texas Police Corporal T.J. Session.

“The Weapon-Mounted Cameras provide a new layer of visibility and perspective for our deputies,” said Sheriff Ridnour. “As a rural force, we cover a huge area with a limited number of personnel. The range of responsibilities our deputies have is equally as great—and knowing we now have the FACT Duty gun cameras in the field gives us even more coverage and awareness.”

Viridian has created an important category for law enforcement with the introduction of the Weapon-Mounted Camera. This distinctive camera provides an unobstructed view of critical use-of-force events from the end of the firearm, addressing limitations officers can face with body cameras.

“Sheriff Ridnour has been dedicated to bringing the latest technologies to his department, and we’re thrilled he added the FACT Duty,” Viridian President and CEO, Brian Hedeen, said.  “Our technology can be a supplement or alternative to body cameras as a mandatory evidentiary tool to provide the critical evidence in an officer involved shooting. We commend Sheriff Ridnour for being the first to deploy in Colorado and wish him and his deputies the best during these unprecedented and challenging times for all first responders.”

The highly advanced WMC employs a 1080p full-HD digital camera with a microphone and 500 lumen tactical light. Viridian’s proprietary INSTANT-ON® technology automatically activates the camera and microphone whenever the officer draws the firearm from its holster. Not only does this eliminate risk of failure to manually turn on the camera during a critical event, but it also keeps the officer from fumbling with cumbersome equipment.

More information on the FACT Duty can be found here or by contacting Viridian directly at sales@ViridianWeaponTech.com.

    Flash Gordon – 4k Restoration

    Monday, May 11th, 2020

French film production and distribution company StudioCanal, which late last year released 4k restorations of some of John Carpenter’s most iconic films, is adding the cult classic Flash Gordon to their 4k restoration offerings. No word on a theatrical release for this one, however like the previously mentioned Carpenter films, the Flash Gordon 4K restoration is receiving its own 4K UHD Collector’s Edition set:

As you can tell from the picture alone, this set comes loaded to the brim with add-ins, including:

    ● Bonus Blu-Ray Disc of LIFE AFTER FLASH
    ● Soundtrack
    ● 32 page booklet
    ● 16 page Titan mini book (The Story of Flash Gordon)
    ● Reproduced booklet of the first strip of original comic books
    ● Poster of original artwork

In addition to a copy of the movie, commentary tracks, documentaries, ect.

It is currently available for pre-order from Amazon.uk, but unfortunately will not ship to the States, so you’ll need to find friends in Transatlantic places, or find another way to get a copy imported if you’re on this side of the pond.

    Nebula-75 – Episode One

    Wednesday, May 6th, 2020

Are you a fan of the old Supermarionation shows of the 60s like Thunderbirds and Stingray? Then take a peak at this new Supermarionation show, Nebula-75, which depicts the adventures of Commander Ray Neptune and the crew of the spaceship Nebula-75 as they explore uncharted worlds and discover new forms of life. Amazingly, the principal production for this show is done by three members of the Century 21 films crew inside their London flat, which they all share as roommates. Their living room was transformed into a studio, while a combination of household objects and puppets and props from other Supermarionation productions were used to create the set and the characters for the show. A worldwide crew of remote workers contributed to pre and post-production.

If you like what you see, there’s already a second episode available:
