Friday, November 8th, 2013

Ledge Pants are Liquid-resistant, stain-proof, wrinkle-resistant pants that are equally at home outside or in the office. The fabric features a high elastane content of 10%, so the pants move with the wearer. They’re also highly sturdy, and have extra deep pockets with a cut on the side for easy access. The project is currently up on Kickstarter, with men’s sizes in mind; once the goal is reached women’s sizes will be considered.

Tactical Tailor now building in PenCott

Thursday, November 7th, 2013

Lakewood, WA — 05 NOV 13 – Tactical Tailor, supplier of rugged, 100% American-made tactical equipment to Warfighters around the world, is proud to announce it will be building equipment in the PenCott family of camouflage patterns.

The effectiveness camouflage should not gauged by popularity, nor aesthetic appeal. Camouflage is measured by its ability to mask shape and form to prevent detection. The successful use of camouflage—or its compromise—often determines mission success, mission failure and even mission completion. It is for this reason that Hyde Definition calls their patterns Mission Critical Camouflage, and it’s because of PenCott’s efficacy that TT added the Badlands and GreenZone variants to its equipment camo pattern options.

“We haven’t just looked at T&E results,” says Tactical Tailor’s GW Ayers, “We did our own research. We took it to the field and sent it overseas…the results are in. We need to offer PenCott.”

“Tactical Tailor makes some of the most rock solid and effective gear on the planet,” says Lawrence Holsworth, Hyde Definition’s Director of Business Development. “It’s a great honor to be working with them—and a testament to the effectiveness of PenCott’s patterns that they chose us.”

Hyde Definition’s family of patterns features a unique, hybrid, 3-in1 pattern geometry that is more organic and natural looking than typical camouflages. It provides superior concealment at all ranges. Founder Dominic Hyde realized the deficiencies of many such patterns years ago and set out to design a new pattern geometry that would be more effective and adaptable than any other patterns available.

“The PenCott patterns are enjoying great growth internationally,” Holsworth advises, “so teaming up with Tactical Tailor will help us consolidate and build on that success in the US market as well.”

Tactical Tailor will initially be offering equipment in BadLands (for dry, upland, bushland, semi-arid and transitional terrain) and GreenZone (for verdant temperate, tropical and semi-tropical operations). There are two other patterns, with a fifth in development: SandStorm (for arid, desert terrain) and SnowDrift (for snow and winter terrain). The last pattern is called MetroPolis. It’s an urban/industrial/low-light pattern scheduled for release in 2014.

“Sandstorm and SnowDrift are great patterns, no doubt,” Ayers continues, shading his eyes with a grin and looking into the distance. “and MetroPolis is intriguing. However, I can neither confirm nor deny we’ll be doing anything with those in the future.”

Boy Scout* Gear Round Up – Bushnell Bear Grylls 8X25 Compact Binocular

Sunday, November 3rd, 2013

There’s a wide variety of survival tools for the outdoorsman currently available in the market, including knives, flashlights, belts, etc. We purchased a small variety of survival tools, and put them to the test with our own weekend warriors, our three Boy Scouts. The rules were simple. They could select any of the products that wanted but had to write about their impressions.

Each week, we’ll feature a new product review written by one of the Scouts.

This and other images of NK camouflage popped up on 2ch, Japan’s largest image board. This particular pattern is a “duck hunter” camo based on a Chinese pattern. Not all of their uniforms are this revealing, however. They also field a uniform with a pattern very similar to US Woodland BDUs for their special forces troops, and a few other odds and ends.

Lancer Tactical – GPNVG-18 Dummy Review

    Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

    SONY DSC

Lancer Airsoft’s GPNVG-18 Dummy is a non-functional replica of the L-3 Warrior Systems GPNVG-18, perhaps best known for its use by Seal Team Six in the flim Zero Dark Thirty. This particular model comes standard with clear and blue replacement lenses, dummy ANVIS cable, and dummy remote battery pack.

As far as replicas go, Lancer Tactical really hit it out of the park with their GPNVG-18 Dummy. The detail of this product is high: the Dummy is the proper size, features accurate accessories, and proper markings; There are identification stickers that come with the dummy that can be used to add further detail. The unit is made from sturdy plastic, and the non-functioning power button is made from a spongy foam-like material. Dials on either side of the eye pieces can be used to adjust their spacing.

The Dummy NVG is fairly lightweight, including the faux battery pack, so it’s not likely to cause any additional strain if mounted to a helmet. The replaceable lenses are a nice addition that adds a bit of customization to the unit. Please note that actually looking through the lenses is slightly disorienting, the lenses are convex (images appear upside down and reversed), so it’s best used as an accessory or for non-serious play.

If you happen to be looking for a replica GPNVG-18 to add that extra bit of detail to your kit, for role-playing purposes, or just because they’re cool looking, then you can’t go wrong with Lancer Tactical’s GPNVG-18 Dummy.

One last thing to note: For the purposes of the photography, I mounted the dummy GPNVG-18 on a Wilcox L4 G24 NVG mount. Although the dummy NVG did fit, it wasn’t completely secure to the mount and had the potential to slip off. Lancer Tactical offers their own L4 G24 NVG mount built for airsoft use that should better accommodate the dummy NVG.

The Lancer Tactical GPNVG-18 Dummy shown above is in Tan, although a Black model is also available.
