Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

You’ve got just under two weeks to get in on this UK-based Kickstarter project by Sail Video Systems. The ‘3rd Person View’ action-cam camera mount for extreme sports, is exactly what the name implies. Instead of standard POV mounts, this one puts you in the picture.

It consists of three elements: the curved carbon sandwich backplate that is worn with a waterproof adjustable sports belt, Fully adjustable camera pole and a unique locking/release mechanism. Additionally, there are two adapters that will enable you to mount any camera (up to ±1,5 kg) at any angle

Grenade Bottle Opener On Kickstarter

Monday, December 31st, 2012

A user on Kickstarter, known only as Brad, created this grenade-shaped multi-tool called, appropriately enough, the Bottle Grenade. Its primary function is as a combination twist off/pry off (pop top) bottle opener, however it also includes a wrench and hex slot along with four holes for use with a keyring or paracord. It’s machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, and based on donation level can include custom engraving and/or the realistic grenade pattern.

Sunday, December 30th, 2012

The MultiCam sheaths made by LBT for the SOG Voodoo Hawk LE have finally started shipping out. They’re made from nylon with a button snap closure and a belt loop. The LE sheath also better conforms to the blade when compared to the standard SOG sheath and seems of overall better quality. You can see additional photos below.

Camillus Les Stroud “Survivorman” Machete

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

This is the Les Stroud Camillus SK Jungle Machete. Designed specifically for survival purposes, the SK Jungle features an 11 3/4 inch long, 2/10 inch thick 440-stainless steel blade which is treated with Carbonitride Titanium, a proprietary process that bonds formulated titanium and chromium nitride to the steel, giving it a surface up to three times harder than the base steel in addition to a more corrosive resistant finish and friction free cutting surface. The blade has a slight inward sweep for better capturing whatever needs to be cut, and the flat tip is sharpened for use with digging and smaller cutting chores.

The 5 1/2 inch handle is constructed from polypropylene with high traction TRP rubber inserts for added grip traction, even in cold weather, and features a lanyard hole. The pommel is checkered hard steel for non-slip hammering which makes it safer from slipping off a stuck object. The SK Jungle comes with a ballistic nylon sheath with built-in fire starter and a nylon mesh pocket.

Bear Grylls Parang Recall

Sunday, September 30th, 2012

I was at REI today and I saw a recall notice for the Gerber Gear Bear Grylls Parang. It seems that there’s a weakness in the area where the blade meets the handle. This can cause either the blade or the handle to break during use which poses a laceration hazard. If you happened to have purchase one of these blades, you can register at this page, where Gerber will process your info, send out a prepaid FedEx box, and send you a replacement parang some weeks later. Given the quality of the blade, I’d rather receive a refund, but you get what you get, I suppose.

M48 Apocalypse Series Tactical Tomahawk

Saturday, September 22nd, 2012

While it has a bright green ‘zombie’ handle, the M48 Apocalypse Series Tomahawk does have some good features going for it. The 8″ head, constructed from 2Cr13 stainless steel, has two sharpened blades, the axe and spike. The 30% nylon reinforced handle secures the head with three separate bolts and is wrapped in black paracord. The M48 also comes with a nylon belt sheath with belt loop and snap closure buttons. It’s a United Cutlery piece, and they do offer a ‘non-zombified’ all-black version as well, if the Apocalypse model isn’t your thing.

Available on Amazon.com.

ADAPPT XT

Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

The ADAPPT XT, a multi-function iPhone 4 utility case, is an impressive-looking project currently open for funding on Indiegogo. The poly-carbonate case protects the phone from drops, nicks, and scratches and houses both a 1.5″ utility blade and a multi-tool card. The card currently functions as a 10 piece wrench set, flat head screwdriver, ruler, and bottle opener. If the project gets off the ground, both the multi-tool card and knife slot will have options of customization such as a mirror or magnifying glass, and scissors or a USB drive. Additionally, there are plans to release a case for the recently announced iPhone 5.

12 Tactical Days of Christmas are Coming!

Monday, December 12th, 2011

What It Is
Everybody knows the popular Christmas Carol, “The 12 Days of Christmas” but what many people don’t know is that it actually starts on the day after Christmas and ends on the 6th of January. Well this year, Tactical Fanboy will be working with The BOLO Report and Soldier Systems Daily to bring you the 12 Days of Tactical Christmas.

How It Works
We have lined up a seriously cool (and tacti-cool) list of sponsors and, just like in the song, each day we will give away the requisite number of items. For example on the fist day we will give away a single item to a single winner. On the second day we will give away two of the same item, one each to two different winners. On the third day, three winners will each receive an item and so on, and so on until 78 total prizes have been awarded.

12 Tactical Days of Christmas

How To Enter
Each day, we will post the days giveaway on one of the three websites. The rules for that day will be included in the post. To enter, you will have to follow the instructions which will consist of responding to a question in the comments section of THAT post. There will be a limited period of time to respond and then the comments will be closed. Once the comments are closed the day’s winners will be randomly selected and contacted via the email provided in the comments. This is why it is imperative that you provide a valid email address. If you don’t, we can’t contact you to tell you you’ve won.

It probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to be a fan of one or two or all three on Facebook…you know, just in case…Soldier Systems, BOLO Report and of course Tactical Fanboy.

Look for a special surprise at the end of the 12 days. It’s going to blow you away!

No purchase necessary.

Void where prohibited.

Unclaimed prizes will be forfeit.

If there’s nothing in the prize list you want or need, then you’re probably a hippie, a peace protester or the greatest and most accomplished geardo in the history of guys that collect Gucci kit.

Tactical Fanboy Gift Suggestion #1121: C.A.T. M4

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Gotcha a little carbon build-up? Rather be hunting for Vladimir Makarov or Solomon? Better things to do than spending hours cleaning your bolt carrier group the good old fashioned way? Think about telling the Residential Sergeant Major, your girlfriend (not both at the same time) or your mom to get you a Combat Application Tools M-4 tool. You can’t go wrong throwing one of these in your kit or your range bag.

Louisville Decapitron

Monday, October 31st, 2011

We here on TFB have been putting out a lot of Zombie-themed content in the recent weeks, since it’s the month of Halloween and all, and we figured another article on undead killin’ implements wouldn’t hurt since there’s no kill like overkill. Speaking of which, meet the Louisville Decapitron. A creation of Gord of Gordsgarage, the Decapitron is the melding of a large blade and a Louisville Slugger, a combination that makes for a powerful anti-Zombie weapon. The business end is meant for any undead looking to make a snack of your innards, while the blunt portion is meant to beat away any humans going after your survival stash. Anyone else getting a ‘Dead Rising 2‘ vibe from this thing, or is it just me?

Legos for Grunts

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Here’s something just about anyone will have fun playing with it. Whether you need to occasionally change the interior layout of a training area to meet different instructional objectives or you just want to have the coolest, most bad ass back yard fort in the whole neighborhood, Combat Training Aids’ TacBlox are gonna be just your speed.

Theoretically you could use it as a faster way to build a target mock-up to do rehearsals before a mission, assuming you had time. Certainly more lifelike than a chalk or tape outline in a parking log, if not as quick to throw down.

Now, granted, they’re going to be somewhat more expensive than your average box of Legos, but they will certainly allow for some serious flexibility when you’re designing a threat area for room-clearing drills (or a very realistic MilSim battle). Essentially, they’re lightweight urethane foam versions of the ubiquitous cinder block (of which you’ve seen endless thousands, if you spent any time at all in a MOUT village).

They have  full blocks, half blocks, and block caps so you can put together whatever sort of wall you want. As the manufacturers say,  “Many situational training facilities offer separate buildings or permanent concrete maize to provide situational training scenarios. Unlike fixed wall training centers, TACBLOX™ walls provide unlimited floor to ceiling room configurations, increasing the trainers’ effectiveness…”

Oh, and if that isn’t cool enough, you can shoot them a lot before they wear out, without any ricochet issues. According to CTA, individual TACBLOX™ can take thousands of rounds shot through it before sacrificing its structural integrity.

Guess what’s going on my Christmas list?

As part of their 2011 collection, the company also offers more in a series of powerful, yet similarly credit card-sized products.

It features a weight of 8 lbs and a bar length of 6″, with an optional extender that increases the total length to 12ft. Also included is an auto tension feature and automatic chain oiler with oil level indicator. All features and technical aspects aside, it’s a freaking metal-toothed mouth that uses a chainsaw tongue to cut **** up! Wicked Lasers Spyder III Krypton

Sunday, September 11th, 2011

Currently under review by Guinness World Records for the title of ‘World’s Brightest Handheld Laser’, the Spyder III Krypton is, quite frankly, laser overkill. It features a green beam 8000 times brighter than the Sun (if directly looking at the dot) with a visible range of 85 miles, easily breaking the Earth’s atmosphere; the makers even warn not to point it at satellites [or airplanes, people and animals], since the beam could potentially damage them. It also features a rechargeable lithium ion battery, 9 operation modes such as ‘SOS’ and ‘Beacon’, a 100% unlimited duty cycle, an aircraft-grade aluminum chassis, and SmartSwitch technology, for keeping the beam out of the wrong hands. There are also optional attachments like the expanded lens kit, which adds a variety of patterns and shapes. Sadly, despite its completely-legal-to-own status, the Spyder III Krypton isn’t very practical, since it’s just too damn powerful to use as a laser pointer or gunsight.
