August 15th, 2017

GERBER ANNOUNCES NEW SHARKBELLY IPA
IN PARTNERSHIP W/ BONEYARD BEER

PORTLAND, OREGON (August 10th, 2017) – GERBER boasts a long history in the Pacific Northwest, designing quality knives and tools that are purpose built for hard working individuals and outdoor enthusiasts. The products may vary in application and user, but one appreciation runs true throughout the greater PNW: that of a good craft beer. When GERBER learned that the folks at Boneyard Beer in Bend, Oregon carry GERBER knives as their everyday tool of choice, the mission was clear: check out the operation and get the new Sharkbelly knife into their hands. What began as a brewery tour and product photoshoot, quickly turned into a badass partnership that taste buds all over the region can benefit from.

Introducing the GERBER Sharkbelly IPA: a special-edition brew by Boneyard Beer.

“After working with the GERBER team and using their gear for so many years, we aimed for a brew that matched the bold and uncompromising attitude that GERBER represents. Our company cultures, branding, and attitudes blend so well, this project has been exciting from the get-go. The Sharkbelly is an everyday carry knife with no frills that is easy to use; likewise, the Sharkbelly IPA is a straightforward, clean, crisp IPA that cuts to the chase and leaves you wanting more.” – Nick Murray, Director of Sales & Marketing, Boneyard Beer

The announcement comes ahead of a limited-run distribution in the Portland, Oregon metro area, aiming to give GERBER fans a chance to experience the hometown brand in a new way. Bend locals can also find it on tap at Boneyard’s tasting room, and if demand calls for it the Sharkbelly IPA may find a place in the permanent rotation for the brewery.

The Sharkbelly is an update to the classic everyday carry pocket knife with lightweight utility and standout features. Designed and built in GERBER’s Portland, Oregon manufacturing facility, this American made knife is available in partially serrated and full fine edge blade variations. The 420HC modern sheepsfoot-style blade is easily deployed with a sizable thumb hole, revealing flat top serrations that are easy to sharpen on a flat stone and practical for daily abuse. The tactile SharkSkin Grip™ succeeds in function and aesthetics with unidirectional scales that provide additional traction when in hand – smooth in one direction and grippy in the other.

Look for the distinctive tap handle featuring the GERBER logo and a hammerhead shark swathed in an American flag, an ode to two unapologetically badass brands that serve as the masters of their respective crafts.

Polymer80 – Announcing The PF940v2 Coming This FALL!

August 11th, 2017

Polymer80, Inc. bolsters their product line with a long-awaited update.

Tacoma, WA – July 27th, 2017- Polymer80, the leading developer and manufacturer of 80% polymer AR and pistol products has unveiled the PF940v2™, the next generation update to their best-selling PF940v1™ Glock®-compatible 80% pistol frame.

“We have learned quite a bit since the release of the v1 frame.” said Alex Brodsky, VP of Marketing at Polymer80. “The PF940C™ compact frame, for example, was designed with significantly improved ergonomics and aftermarket features. Since the compact’s release, an overwhelming majority of our customers and dealers have asked that we update the original standard size frame with similar features.”

The PF940v2™ is compatible with components for 3-pin: 9mm G17, 34, 17L; .40S&W G22, 35, 24; and .357Sig G31.

Some of the major changes seen in PF940v2™ include a slimmer grip that is available with an aggressive texture or blank ReadyMod™ style, a double undercut on the trigger guard, and a stainless steel rear rail module, which has been the most requested feature. The PF940v2™ comes with a Picatinny/STANAG compliant accessory rail that features an embedded blank serialization plate. Much like its predecessor, the PF940v2™ kit includes a finishing jig, drill bits, and an end mill, which allows the end-user to successfully convert the frame into a functioning firearm in the privacy of their home.

“We’ve been conducting PF940v2™ range tests for two months now,” said Mike Guttridge, VP of Product. “The aftermarket product compatibility tests have been concluded as well, and we feel confident to start the initial production. We hope to bring the PF940v2™ frame kit to market sometime in the fall.”

What is an 80% Receiver?

An 80% Receiver is a partially completed piece of material that requires special tooling and skills to be completed and considered a firearm. Unlike a firearm receiver it is not required to be transferred through a Federal Firearms Licensed holder (FFL).

SwitchGrip – GripKnife

August 10th, 2017

In my mind, the name GripKnife conjures images of Solid Snake’s CQC knife-in-support-hand style of weapon manipulation.

However, the GripKnife is actually a forend grip that mounts to a standard Picatinny rail, which houses a knife intended for hand-to-hand fighting. The creators of the Grip Knife state it’s designed for “…military-style carbines in close-quarter situations such as urban engagements, while inside military vehicles, or in any other situation where space is confined, the element of surprise is necessary, or the likelihood of hand-to-hand combat is great.”, and is made of “…advanced materials usually reserved for spaceships and surgical equipment.” The knife detaches from the grip by pressing a thumb-activated, rearward button on the base of the mount, for quick operation of use.

G2 Research 12ga RIP Round

August 9th, 2017

World’s Deadliest 12 Gauge Round

Winder, GA, August 9, 2017, G2 Research’s NEW extreme performance self-defense 12 gauge round.

In development for over three years by G2 Research this new high-performance 12 gauge self-defense round will hit the market this Fall. The all brass 303-grain individually machined CNC slug is designed for incredible performance against soft targets.

First of all the G2 slug is 0.725-inch in diameter (about a quarter inch larger than a .50 cal. Bullet). When combined with the proven G2 Research R.I.P. technology which releases six trocars (large metal petals) into the target the result is incredible and instant devastation.

Upon impact the six trocars will open, detach and independently spread through the target some 6-inches wide delivering 9-11 inches of penetration resulting in massive damage and shock. The .70 caliber base of the slug will continue forward for another 5-6 inches.

Recoil is greatly reduced due to the lightweight all brass 303 grain slug.

The $49.99 price for five-rounds is painful but this is not intended for shooting at tin cans and cinder blocks. The typical scenario is the average person will go to the range and launch a round or two at a target of some type and load the remainder into their gun for the time should the need arise.

Mike Nickerson, G2’s marketing director says–“This 12 gauge round is very specific in its design and mission; that of a person defending his life and/or that of his family. The real question is how much value we put on put on our own life or that of those we are protecting.”

Specifications:

  • 12 gauge
  • 0.725-inch diameter 303 grain all brass precision CNC machined slug
  • 1430 FPS velocity depending on barrel length, etc.
  • Effective performance design range 0-10 yards
  • MSRP $49.99 box of five
  • IMPORTANT NOTES: This round is designed for self-defense only and has a true effective performance expansion range of 10 yards. Several reasons for this: Much beyond that range the slug will begin to yaw which can affect correct strike angle for it to open as designed. Beyond the design distance of 10 yards it will still do massive damage however.

Second, it is not designed to be used for hunting, sporting or barrier penetration–it is designed for self-defense. Self-defense means just that and it is difficult to convince a jury that self-defense much past 30 feet really is self-defense.

Will it penetrate hard objects such as doors, walls, etc.? Of course but it may not expand as designed and, shooting through doors and walls presents a difficult legal case of self-defense in court.

This round must NOT be fired in guns with rifling, compensators, chokes or modified barrel cylinders, etc. The only type of barrel safely used is a modern smooth bore riot type shotgun barrel.

SIG SAUER Issues Voluntary Upgrade Of P320 Pistol

    August 8th, 2017

    P320 pistol meets requirements for industry and government safety standards;
performance enhancements optimize function, safety, and reliability.

Newington, NH (August 8, 2017) – The P320 meets U.S. standards for safety, including the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) / Sporting Arms Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. (SAAMI®), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), as well as rigorous testing protocols for global military and law enforcement agencies.

The design of the SIG SAUER P320 overcomes the most significant safety concern in striker-fired pistols today: the practice of pressing the trigger for disassembly. This can be performed with a round in the chamber which has resulted in numerous incidents of property damage, physical injury, and death. The disassembly process of the P320, however, uses a take-down lever rather than pressing the trigger, eliminating the possibility of discharge during the disassembly process.

Recent events indicate that dropping the P320 beyond U.S. standards for safety may cause an unintentional discharge.

As a result of input from law enforcement, government and military customers, SIG has developed a number of enhancements in function, reliability, and overall safety including drop performance. SIG SAUER is offering these enhancements to its customers. Details of this program will be available at sigsauer.com on Monday, August 14, 2017.

The M17 variant of the P320, selected by the U.S. government as the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS), is not affected by the Voluntary Upgrade.

“SIG SAUER is committed to our approach on innovation, optimization, and performance, ensuring we produce the finest possible products,” said Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER. “Durability, reliability and safety, as well as end-user confidence in the SIG SAUER brand are the priorities for our team.”

SIG SAUER Reaffirms Safety of P320 Pistol

    August 4th, 2017

Striker-fired pistol exceeds safety standards of ANSI/SAAMI® and U.S. military testing

Newington, NH (August 4, 2017) – In response to social media rumors questioning the safety of the P320 pistol, a variant of which was selected by the U.S. government as the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS), SIG SAUER, Inc. has full confidence in the reliability, durability and safety of its striker-fired handgun platform. There have been zero (0) reported drop-related P320 incidents in the U.S. commercial market, with hundreds of thousands of guns delivered to date.

The P320 meets and exceeds all U.S. standards for safety, including the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. (SAAMI), as well as rigorous testing protocols for global military and law enforcement agencies.

All SIG SAUER pistols incorporate effective mechanical safeties to ensure they only fire when the trigger is pressed. However, like any mechanical device, exposure to acute conditions (e.g. shock, vibration, heavy or repeated drops) may have a negative effect on these safety mechanisms and cause them to not work as designed. This language is common to owner’s manuals of major handgun manufacturers.

As a result, individual attempts to perform drop tests outside of professionally controlled environments should not be attempted.

“SIG SAUER is committed to producing only the finest products,” said Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER. “Safety and reliability have been and always will be paramount to the SIG SAUER brand.”

The story reveals the events that brought Master Chief and Blue Team together, including their Spartan training and their daring mission to strike back at the Covenant during the first days of the deadly alien invasion. The animated film was produced and directed by SEQUENCE, the award-winning Vancouver-based animation studio responsible for the “Terminals” featured in “Halo 4” and “Halo 2: Anniversary,” and this marks their most ambitious and high-fidelity Halo animation yet.

AIR BOLT BY AIR VENTURI .35 Caliber Added to Line Up

    July 31st, 2017

Solon, Ohio (July 31, 2017) – Air Venturi, an exclusive airgun, airsoft and ammunition importer of leading international airgun brands, is introducing a brand new addition to its innovative Air Bolt line. The latest release brings .35 caliber Air Bolts to accompany the successful .50 caliber Air Bolt introduced in 2016. This new caliber increases the versatility of .35 airguns, as well as offering new possibilities of hunting different sized game effectively.

“With the success of the .50 caliber Air Bolt, it was the next logical step to open the product line up to more calibers,” said Air Venturi Director of Business Development, Paul Milkovich. “The .35 caliber is one of the most popular ammunition choices, and this release opens up arrow shooting to a massive audience. Whether you want to shoot targets or wild game, the .35 cal Air Bolt has got you covered.”

According to Milkovich, “The Air Bolts in the new caliber still provide tremendous knock-down power and velocity. When we tested the .35 caliber, 375 grain Air Bolt out of the Recluse, we consistently achieved velocities around 530 fps (feet per second) with 234 fpe (foot pounds of energy). With these kinds of numbers, it’s easy to see how the Air Bolt will transform your .35 caliber airgun into a bolt-slinging powerhouse capable of taking trophy-sized big game.”

“We tested our .35 bolts in our in-house range and achieved 1 inch groups at 30 yards. They’re so precise, you have to be careful you don’t shoot your own arrows already lodged in the target–they are that accurate.”

Both .50 and .35 caliber Air Bolts are constructed of 100 percent Hi-Modulus Carbon Fiber with a small outside diameter that produces maximum speed and accuracy. With the 100 grain field tip, the .35 cal Air Bolt weighs 375 grains in total.

    NASA Releases Space Mission Videos

    July 28th, 2017

The National Air and Space Administration’s Armstrong Flight Research Center has released a variety of videos depicting the devlopment of equipment used for space exploration.

This 48-second video from 1969 shows a Lunar Landing Research Vehicle (LLRV) taking off and hovering during an early flight test.

The LLRVs, humorously referred to as “flying bedsteads,” were created by a predecessor of NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center to study and analyze piloting techniques needed to fly and land the tiny Apollo Lunar Module in the moon’s airless environment. (Dryden was known as NASA’s Flight Research Center from 1959 to 1976.)

Success of the LLRVs led to the building of three Lunar Landing Training Vehicles (LLTVs) used by Apollo astronauts at the Manned Spacecraft Center, Houston, TX, predecessor of NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong, first human to step onto the moon’s surface, said the mission would not have been successful without the type of simulation that resulted from the LLRVs and LLTVs.

Service members, who previously embraced an outdoorsman lifestyle, as well as those new to traditional outdoor sports, are introduced to recreational opportunities on the road to recovery.

Led by Hope For The Warriors Director of Outdoor Adventure and retired Marine, Ken Sutherby, each hunt aimed to enable wounded veterans with a challenge, introduce a sense of camaraderie with other veterans and provide a source of food for each hunter’s family. In addition, the experience encourages healing and aims to revitalize each veteran by proving he/she are capable and can be independent, regardless of injuries.

Sutherby shares why this experience is so beneficial to veterans, “Hunting is a therapeutic avenue for many veterans. Often, veterans are experiencing extreme social isolation as they assimilate to post-combat life resulting in declining self-worth as they evaluate their current lifestyle compared to their former military life. Therefore, they are excited with the challenge and placed back in a position of leadership and trust as they alone are responsible for the outcome.

“In addition, as we make the long drives up the mountain roads or sit around the camp fire, the hunts provide a chance to address any and all areas of conflict in their lives and communicate with other wounded veterans who have experienced the same effects of combat and have fought the same battle to recovery,” adds Sutherby.

San Antonio, Texas-based Army Master Sergeant Raymond Soto shares what this experience meant to him. “Attending the bear hunt was a therapeutic and great time spent with other wounded veterans, said Soto.

“With its never ending distractions, life moves too fast and spending time with other combat veterans in a peaceful quiet place like Idaho was what I needed. Sharing memories and knowing that we all carry some sort of continuous pain, emotional and/or physical, it’s always a therapeutic experience when we get together and feel that bond that we all miss.

“In addition, I spent 11.5 hours in a tree stand with no cell phone service or internet so it allowed me to enjoy the peaceful outdoors reflecting on my deployments and those brothers that are no longer with us. I needed the time; being completely alone and just remembering,” adds Soto.

Hope For The Warriors created the Outdoor Adventures Program in 2010 to provide adaptive opportunities for wounded heroes to participate in sporting activities in the great outdoors. In 2012, the organization recognized the therapeutic benefits for the family members and expanded the program to include spouses and children of wounded and fallen service members.

    Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

    July 24th, 2017

Last time I was at Disney World, they were doing the preliminary construction for this new attraction, which has been revealed to be ‘Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge’. While I only saw the work going on at Hollywood Studios, they’re also opening a version of this attraction at Disneyland.

Look forward to seeing it sometime in 2019.

    Justice League SDCC Trailer

    July 22nd, 2017

A lot of great movie trailers have come out for this year’s SCCC, and the Justice League trailer is no exception. Aside from giving a somewhat clearer look at main villain Steppenwolf, we also get an action-packed look at the entire league.

Trailers are meant to hype up the film, but it’s still looking loads better than BvS.
