Bullet-proof Origami Shield

February 20th, 2017

Mechanical engineers at Brigham Young University created a man-portable and lightweight bulletproof shield that was inspired by origami. The shield is flat when stowed, but quickly folds up to an encompasing shield made of 12 layers of Kevlar fabric.

In testing the barrier was capable of stopping loads upwards of .44 Magnum, making it roughly equivalent to Level IIIA body armor in protective capability.

While there’s likely still some development to undergo before this becomes a fully-realized product, it shows great promise, especially if the positive response from the Law Enforcement agents testing the device is anything to go by.

Someone Trademarked The Term “Morale Patch”- Help Stop Them

February 15th, 2017

Yesterday, Morale Patch Armory announced they had received a trademark for the term “Morale Patch” and immediately set about having morale patch collector groups shut down on social media. Obviously, the term existed long before these guys came along. I’m all for respecting IP, but if you didn’t create it, you shouldn’t claim it.

Consequently, some folks have banded together to appeal the trademark issue to the USPTO. Naturally, this will take lawyers, and lawyers take cash. They’ve started a gofundme page and raised over $8000 in the first hour. Consider, throwing a few bucks in, in order to stand up to this outrageous act, designed to curtail innovation and trade.

Halo Wars 2: War of Wits

February 13th, 2017

The first Halo Wars was an Xbox 360-exclusive RTS designed specifically for play on a console; it wasn’t bad. In advertising its sequel, Microsoft has a real winner of a commercial in its hands. The second one, involving who gets the armrest on an airplane, is also pretty funny.

Action…Avengers: Infinity War

Super Hero movies have become the norm, with Marvel’s meticulous planning of their shared universe films culminating in the eventual release of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. To hype up the film, Marvel released this behind-the-scenes teaser on what’s to come.

Kinda wish Justice League has this level of forethought.

RE Factor Tactical – Limited Edition ‘Send Nudes’ T-Shirt

February 11th, 2017

Untitled

At first, RE Factor Tactical’s ‘Send Nudes’ t-shirt appears to feature an unassuming design of a multitude of modern small arms bunched up on an American Apparel 50/50 PolyCotton blend shirt. However, if you match up the grenades on the corners of the design, well…

HAVA’s Learn to Shoot Again (LTSA) Program Garners Support at SHOT Show

February 6th, 2017

LAS VEGAS – Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) announced last year the launch of Learn to Shoot Again (LTSA), a new division comprised of certified instructors who provide advanced/individual shooter adaptive training for significantly disabled military veterans and injured active duty military who can no longer shoot conventionally due to their injuries. LTSA was organized by former 7th Special Operations Command SGT Rick Cicero and offers one, two and three-day adaptive pistol, rifle, shotgun and braced firearm instruction.

Catapulting from their initial launch, LTSA is off to a momentous start following SHOT Show. LTSA garnered tremendous support from HAVA’s sustaining sponsors as well as many additional companies and individuals within the firearms industry. From the donations of ammunition and instructor uniforms to eye/ear protection, firearms and range facilities, LTSA is geared up to provide shooting instruction to active duty and veteran servicemen and women across the country on an even greater platform in 2017.

“It is such a tremendous honor to be surrounded by an amazing team of fellow veterans who are dedicated to leadership within our veteran community. One of the unnoticed aspects of SHOT Show was the volume of injured veterans that we were able to meet and educate about some of the resources LTSA is creating for them. This year is starting much better than we could have ever expected and we can only imagine what the future holds. Thank you to my fellow veterans and the shooting industry who have made this possible,” Cicero said.

image004The LTSA instructor team was honored to personally thank Ron Cohen, CEO of Sig Sauer, directly for Sig Sauer’s support which has become a pillar of the program.

Stranger Things 2 Teaser Trailer

February 5th, 2017

Yea, Superbowl, go Patriots, etc. What was really worth the watch was the trailers for upcoming flicks like ‘Logan’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2’, and the new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ film staring Javier Bardem as an undead pirate. Among those was a teaser for the second season of ‘Stranger Things’, appropriately called ‘Stranger Things 2’, AKA that series that’s a love letter to Spielberg 80’s movies with a sweet synth soundtrack.

Look forward to Stranger Things 2 coming out this Halloween.

Hollywood Collectables Group – M56 Smartgun

January 29th, 2017

Smart_Gun_400_01

I find replicas and props of movie firearms that end up costing more than quite a few guns to be interesting. Perhaps it’s the often times painstaking detail and quality put into something that ultimately can only put on display. Such is the case with the Hollywood Collectables Group exclusive M56 Smartgun. The M56 was first introduced in the movie ‘Aliens’, a 10mm automatic squad support weapon with an effective range of 1500 yards, and a motion-sensitive infrared tracking system. This particular model is 48″ in length, weights 15 lbs., and comes with a 24″ x 16″ print of the Smartgun blueprints and spec sheet. Only 150 of these are slated to be released, so if you don’t mind spending $1200 on a high-quality Smartgun replica, then this is your chance.

ThinkGeek has released a cosplay version of the Omni-Blade made of transparent orange resin, with a switch on the wearable disk letting the wearer swing the blade out or sheath it along their arm.
