The MultiCam Scamp is the result of a collaboration between Freewaters and SKD Tactical. The Scamp is the first commercial sandal with authentic, IR-compliant MultiCam material, featured on the soft webbing toe strap. It also features an ultra-comfortable footbed pattern licensed from Therm-A-Rest, akin to a Z Lite sleeping pad, which channels out water and air cools the foot. The strong, sponge rubber outsole provides grip and flexibility. Additionally, 1% of Freewater’s sales go to well digging projects in impoverished countries with areas without access to fresh water.

American gun enthusiasts hear the word “airsoft” and think toy-like plastic or very fragile pot-metal guns, built mainly in Asia; guns not able to hold up to the rigors of serious training, handling, use or abuse. But, that has been changing…and is about to get two new boosts from a pair of US companies that couldn’t be any different from each other. But, both are ‘bullish’ that they have innovative ways to change the American marketplace.
A quick primer: Airsoft is primarily one caliber – 6mm plastic BB’s, pushed out of smoothbore guns by compressed air. Right now, the foremost systems are called Air Electric Guns or AEG’s, which use gears, a piston, cylinder and spring, powered by a DC electric motor and battery to propel BB’s downrange. A competing system (GBB – Gas Blow Back guns) use high pressure gas to do the same thing. Both models can simulate recoil “kick” and some even field-strip like their one-to-one “real-steel” counterparts…the current fascination with airsoft as a war-games tool and even as a safer-alternative training gun for firearms enthusiasts.
But TIPPMANN Sports, a leader and innovator in paintball guns for decades, and new startup WOLVERINE AIRSOFT are about to bring the manufacture of two gas systems back to airsoft’s roots in high-pressure air…and, build their products in the USA.
TIPPMANN announced at last week’s Paintball Extravaganza event in Virgnia their entry into airsoft, the M-4 carbine…a clone of most AR-style guns with the guts of their highly reliable and rugged paintball markers reworked to fit inside a 1:1 scale upper and lower that will accept most real M-4 grips, stocks, rails/hand guards and accessories. Powered by 12-gram co2 capsules inside the 80-round magazines, the M4 will also alternately use regulated air tanks and current AEG airlift magazines.
Most important to their US market position is TIPPMANN’s established parts, service and distribution networks, and the brand reputation for rugged reliability that might find a true market as training arms for military or Law Enforcement agencies, many of which already use paintball as force-on-force training guns, or for pepperball devices in detention facilities. Expect a summertime release for a product that’s already gaining near-viral attention in paintball AND airsoft circles.
Meanwhile, from Tennessee comes WOLVERINE AIRSOFT with a more basic and elegant engineering idea. Why replace all those existing AEG airsoft guns, when you can drop-in a replacement cylinder with ONE moving part! Called the SMP, for “Single Moving Part,” this system will use High Pressure Air in backpack tanks, regulated with an electronic trigger assembly. That takes the finicky and often-troublesome guts & gears out of the 1970’s Japanese technology of today’s AEG, yet keep their upgraded and more-modern outer shells, which have been getting better and better with age and materials-technology improvements.
A third American company, Delaware-based PolarStar Airsoft has had a more-complete HPA system on the market for several years now, called the Fusion Engine. But, judging from the viral social media reactions, there is probably room in the USA market for all three American entries. A trio that will “bear much watching” as 2014’s spring and summer release dates approach.

Tippmann’s new TCR is a magfed paintball marker with a three magazine system, two air sources, a modular design, and the ability to convert into a standard hopper feed marker. Built upon the TiPX platform, the TCR can utilize three magazine types: the Tru-Feed 7-Ball mag, the Tru-Feed 12-Ball extended mag, and the 20-round Zetamag. The unique, easy access cam-locking system for 12g CO2 cartridges allows for ambidextrous one-handed loading.
The compact design of the TCR features four Picatinny rails, folding front and rear sights, a folding vertical front grip, and an 11″ barrel. This modular design also features a modular stock for future upgrades to an air-in-stock design.
Finally, the TCR can be converted to use a standard hopper feed for non-magfed play. A new TCR comes with a 7-Ball and 12-Bal magazine and will be available later this year.

This fan project by Mitchell Hammond takes place 30 years after Judgement Day where an aged Batman fights against the forces of Skynet with a riot control vehicle and refitted bomb blast vest. To be honest, the concept sounds exactly like a comic from the 90s, and would fit in perfectly with RoboCop Versus The Terminator and Superman Vs. The Terminator: Death to the Future, and all the other ‘super hero vs. movie monster’ comics that came out in that period.

A reader messaged me on Facebook asking if I’d featured these gloves on the page before. I had not, but they’re cool looking, so I used some good old fashioned Google magic to find out what they were. Turns out, a company called Stronghold Leather based in New Brighton, Minnesota makes them. Unfortunately, the pair featured in the image above is sold out, and the mustang brown leather used to make them has been discontinued. However, Stronghold has an eBay store where they’re selling the design in a variety of other colors, along with dozens of other leathercraft items.
This video shows the processes Duro Textiles takes when printing MultiCam on a variety of fabrics and the high level of quality control they exhibit.
Thanks to Hutch for the tip!
However this movie turns out, it has to be better than the abomination that was Godzilla 1998.
GORUCK’s 20 L Gym Bag is made from 1000 D Cordura nylon. It features one main compartment, one small internal pocket, and two external zip pockets on each end. New for 2014, Cold Steel has added a series of training firearms to their product offerings. Made from Polypropylene, these training guns are stiff enough to use with drawing and disarming techniques, yet soft enough for hand-to-hand striking situations. Based on some of the most popular pistols in America, the bright green coloration makes it unlikely these training aids would be mistaken for real firearms.
Valken’s V-TAC Headwrap is made from moisture-wicking material with a breathable mesh liner. The headwrap also features a sweat absorption panel with padding, and a full-length tie in the back for adjustment.
The Valken website features the Headwrap in Marpat, Black, Tiger Stripe, and Woodland, although various vendors seem to be selling it in V-Cam (read: MultiCam) as well.
Taken at SHOT Show 2014, these pictures show the 9mm Parabellum conversion kit for the Tavor SAR. The kit comes with everything needed to convert the 5.56 Tavor into a pistol-caliber carbine: a 1:10 twist CHF 17″ barrel, blowback recoil assembly with bolt and carrier, 9mm magazine magwell adapter, 9mm deflector, and 32-round magazine. They also threw in a barrel removal wrench.
Although the kit isn’t currently up on the IWI website, a few online vendors have listings for the kit.

The APS KU Series AUG, like all airsoft guns in the KU Series, has a progressive trigger design – pulling the trigger half-way produces semi-auto fire, while a full trigger pull produces fully automatic fire. It also comes with a cross-bolt, button type safety mechanism.
The included full-metal V3 Gear Box includes a quick spring change function, which allows the user to easily take the main spring out of the rear, which is easily accessible because the user only has to remove the rear butt plate of the gun to access the spring.
Each airsoft gun in the KU series also comes with 4 picatinny rails for accessories. The grip and body of the gun also has added texture for better overall handling.
The KU AUG features a Kryptek Typhon water transfer coating.
Guardians of the Galaxy is the most obscure property that Marvel is adapting into a movie thus far, but everything looks great so far, if the trailer is any indication. One question, though: does that third alien gun in the beginning of the trailer have a picatinny rail on it?
Guardians of the Galaxy drops August 1st, 2014.

Check out this video of Jerry Miculek breaking his previous world record of firing 6 shots from a Barrett .50 cal in under 1 second. There’s even high speed slow motion, so you can just catch each bullet leaving the barrel.
This is a song by the band Psychostick called ‘Obey the Beard’. The video was done in Source Film Maker using Team Fortress 2 character models. Brand new operator theme song anyone?
