An integral picatinny rail at 12 o’clock allows for the use of optics, including the SIG MPX reflex sight. If you’re wondering what’s ultimately different between the FNP-45 and FNX-45 aside from a few improvements and aesthetic changes, the later uses a new magazine which is incompatible with the former model. To offset this a bit, a new FNX-45 comes with three 15 round mags.

Arsenal Firearms AF2011-A1 – SHOT 2013
Wednesday, January 16th, 2013Arsenal Firearms’ AF2011-A1 was on display at SHOT Show this year. For those who are unfamiliar, the AF2011-A1 is a double-barreled 1911… yeah, you read that right. Both the frame and slide are custom machined from 39NiCrMo steel, although it does use standard Colt 1911 parts for many of the internals; the sights are also interchangeable with a standard 1911. The magazine consists of two separate 8-round magazines connected by a single floor plate. The company claims the AF2011-A1 is currently the “most powerful and highest stopping power semiautomatic pistol on the world market”, as a payload exceeding 4000 grains of .45 ACP (16+2 capacity) can be fired from the pistol in roughly 3 seconds. Other specifications include a total length of roughly 8 inches with a barrel length of 5 inches, a width of two inches, and a weight of roughly 4 lbs unloaded.

First Spear Media Range Day
Monday, January 14th, 2013First Spear, along with Renegade Armor, Wilcox, and Aimpoint, sponsored a media range day at the Las Vegas metropolitan police department firing range. Three ranges were set up, with the first two featuring rifles by H&K and LMT, and pistols by Nighthawk Custom and SIG Sauer. The third range featured something a bit more exotic: rifles by FERFRANS, who are known for their Delayed Sear Activation System. This system made the 7.5″ 5.56 SCW PDW very controllable when fired in full-auto. It’s also very likely this system was responsible for reducing the felt recoil of the 7.62 SOACR near 5.56 levels. Wilcox also had demonstrations of their breaching torch technology; seeing the torch used to melt through rebar as quickly as it did was impressive. Overall, it was a great media day that offered the chance to try out some truly fantastic firearms.
TrackingPoint – “Precision Guided Firearms”
Thursday, January 10th, 2013TrackingPoint is an Austin-based start up that designed three “Precision Guided Firearms”. These PGFs are highly modified bolt-action rifles fitted with advanced technologies including a computerized scope, powered by Linux, that features a HUD (heads up display) which, at the press of a button near the trigger, marks the target. It then measures multiple environmental conditions, including range, ambient temperature and humidity, and the age of the rifle’s barrel to plot the perfect shot; just aim at the plotted mark and pull the trigger. An iOS app also allows users to connect their iDevices to the scope’s display, to act as a spotter, and the scope’s video recordings can be uploaded to video sharing sites complete with HUD data. The pricing on the PGFs starts at around 17,000 USD, and you have to buy TrackingPoint’s hand loaded ammunition to insure proper performance, but hey, every rifle also comes with an iPad that includes TrackingPoint’s app preloaded.

Laser Cut Dollar Snubnosed .38 Revolver
Tuesday, October 30th, 2012This is part of a collection of laser cut sculptures made from US currency by Brooklyn-based artist Scott Campbell. Although the rest of the collection seems to be missing any additional firearms-based imagery, there’s plenty of kick-ass skulls, bones, and reapers that more than make up for it.
