Saturday, April 7th, 2012Big News for Folders and Butterfly Knives: DDR’s New Pivot System
Saturday, April 7th, 2012A little knife update from Swingin’ Dick and Slim.
We spent some time recently with the Auguste Rodin of knife building up in his double secret super foundry forge headquarters near Cincinnati and got to talk to The Man himself, Mr. Darrel Ralph of Darrel Ralph Designs. As you might expect, he’s got a lot of awesome in the works.
One of these is new developments is the NLT (No Lock Tite) Pivot System they recently developed to further improve the reliability and smooth function of DDR knives. The NLT is a pivot adjustment system that will stay tight and adjusted. They stopped using lock-tite because it breaks loose after several hours of swinging (which is obviously problematic, if you’re using a knife with an integral swing function).
Here are the instructions for the NLT Pivot system. More to follow.
Darrel and his staff have also recently finished the initial tests of their new Maxx Glide Pivot Bushing System, a bushing system intended to accompany their bearing system.
“This bushing system and the NLT are easy to adjust,” Darrel said, “and has virtually no blade play. Plus our clutch mechanism will allow blade tension to be adjusted to your liking, you know if you prefer a little tension on the blade.”
We’re returning in a month or two, though we haven’t decided if we’re going back to the Darrel Ralph shop or if we’re just gonna take some single dancing moms to King’s Island.
Red 2 Alpha on the HSGI hat
Friday, April 6th, 2012Long-time Tactical Fanboy reader and frequent smartass comment-putter-inner Red2Alpha has done a review of the High Speed Gear Inc. tactical baseball cap on Military.com. We’ve got some op-ed coming up from R2A here ourselves, all featuring startlingly big words and they’re not even drawn out in crayon. Watch for that next week. Read the review; buy a hat.

TBOC: Big things coming
Friday, April 6th, 2012There’s a contest coming soon at Rogue American Apparel…and rumor has it they will be opening TBOC up to suitably proficient and intelligent women (read: they need to enjoy weaponry of some kind and dig bearded gunmen). Keep your eyes peeled for further developments.
Edit: it appears I am as gullible as the next idiot. That was an April Fool’s Joke.
Even so, the patch is bitchin’ and there WILL be some sort of tactical beard contest. Unless I’m even more thick-witted than I thought.
The .50 Cal Gatling: Getcha one of these.
Thursday, April 5th, 2012Personally, I want to see one of these on a technical, driven by a bunch of mean, bearded sumbitches from Ft. Benning rocking their way through a hostile village in Pashtunistan. But that’s just me.
The GAU-19 Gatling .50 Cal is one serious piece of hardware which I thought I’d mention today in light of it’s renewed interest for Naval deployment. Many have never even heard of it or seen it deployed, which is a shame because this monster can lay down the hate.

iPad 3 Meets Tactical Pants
Thursday, April 5th, 2012From Tactical Gear News. I figured you might like this. One thing: don’t wear tactical pants on the airport to SHOT, or to walk around a gun show just because. You look a little silly, unless you’re just longing to return to the days of walking the diamond in Asscrackistan. In that case, go ahead. Jack Idema needs a fan club.
iPad 3 Meets Tactical Pants
Nora Holloway
When Apple unveiled its next generation of iPad, we looked down at our tactical pants and wondered if that awesomely oversized pocket could hold our beloved mobile computing device. With the dimensions remaining the same, we remembered the Tactical Pants Blog‘s quest for the perfect iPad 2 pocket. In this experiment, they tested the pocket capacity limits of the biggest brands in operator apparel.
Luckily, they photo documented the experiment, so you don’t have to take our word for it.
Genuine Gear – An affordable fit
One of the clear winners, Genuine Gear’s tactical pants ($29.99) would easily holster the newest addition to the iPad family. Pictures don’t lie… the iPad 2 fits in not one, but two pockets—the cargo pocket and the front pocket with the flap open. However, if you aren’t paying attention at all times, that pricey Apple investment could come crashing to the ground.
5.11 Tactical – Not even close
The iPad 2 didn’t quite fit in the 5.11 Taclite Pro Pants or the original weight. No amount of shoving will make that iPad 3 slide into either styles’ pockets.
Blackhawk – A good fit is hard to come by
The discontinued Blackhawk Warrior Wear Tactical Pants were proclaimed the best fit. Unfortunately, it’s not an item that can easily found, well, anywhere. Sorry dudes.
Kitanica – Ehhh… Almost
While the more expensive trousers on the list, Kitanica’s tactical pants had two pockets that could carry the iPad. However, the test subject shared that it didn’t feel 100 percent safe for that Apple.
Perhaps in a perfect world without jostles or pickpockets and absolute surefootedness, the iPad could be securely stowed in your fave pair of tactical pants. Sadly, until a pocket is tailored to the cradle that fragile device, we would suggest sticking to that backpack, briefcase or oversized purse (or murse).
Crye Precision Plate Carrier (overview)
Thursday, April 5th, 2012Check out this video from a dedicated MilSim Airsofter. It looks over all the standard features of the Crye Precision JPC. He says we’ll be some additional videos in the near future showing the different pouches and modular pieces mounted to it.
Ghost Recon Network
Thursday, April 5th, 2012What is Ghost Recon Network? Well, in layman’s terms, it could be called the Ghost Recon equivalent to Call of Duty ELITE, but that wouldn’t be doing the service justice. It boasts more than enough unique features to distance itself from its competitors.
Ghost Recon Future Soldier 7.1 Surround Headset
Thursday, April 5th, 2012Tritton has a new set of headsets out for those of you who’re jonesing for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. It uses Dolby Surround 7.1 technology to create the “immersive feeling of high-end home theater setups.” I don’t know if the “3D sound field” will give you a competitive edge, but it will certainly improve the sense that you’ve been transported into the war zone. Find more information on this and other Ghost Recon related gear at Madcatz.

CamoVision goes Kloak
Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012JerryJack Outdoors has licensed Kloak Konsealment pattern camo for its “CamoVision” eyewear.
“With CamoVision adopting our KLOAK line of cryptic camouflage in its state-of-the-art eyewear, hunters can get closer than ever to total concealment when in the field,” said Steve Regan, President and CEO of Genesis Pattern Technologies. “Once again, the fact that CamoVision chose KLOAK for its unique technology is very exciting to Genesis.” (Kloak cammie patterns are based on mimicry patterning and ‘cryptic’ colorations found in the natural world. (Some of you may remember Kloak from SHOT.)
CamoVision uses a bonding pattern to add a camouflage pattern to the lenses. This makes you look cool and has the additional benefit (if looking cool isn’t enough for you) of masking your eye movement from whatever you’re hunting.
Not zombies, it should be noted. Zombies don’t respond to typical predator-prey dynamics, and won’t care about your eyes. Or hippies. They will be too stoned to care.
Lenses are impact resistant polycarbonate UV on nylon frames. They plan on having multiple patterns on styles for for men, women and children.
For more information, check out CamoVision; for more about Kloak, check their website.

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012Wild Space!
Monday, April 2nd, 2012This is so unrealistic. Everyone knows Mind Flayers hate Githyanki. Or Githzerai. Or something. I’m still too shaken by the epic awesomeness of this to say something witty.
Would it be too much to ask for them to have added in a half dozen half-nekkid Drow wenches?
Please God, let someone go ahead and make something like this full length.
MKT’s Praetorian
Monday, April 2nd, 2012Soldier Systems Daily just posted about Medford Knife and Tool’s new USMC EOD knife. I thought you might be interested in his Praetorian. (Find MKT’s website or go like them on Facebook.)
For myself, I’m looking forward to his video series on window breakin’, but hey, I like watching Greg break stuff.
