Low-Profile Light Features Three Functions, Adjustable Eye-Safe IR Aiming Laser

EAGLEVILLE, PA, January 22, 2019 – Streamlight®, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting and weapon light/laser sighting devices, introduced the TLR-VIR® II, a lightweight, compact rail-mounted tactical light with a high intensity white LED, an integrated infrared (IR) LED illuminator, and Class 1 “Eye Safe” IR aiming laser with windage and elevation adjustment controls. The new light securely fits all long guns with MIL-STD-1913 rails and M17/M18 pistols.

The TLR-VIR II enables users to easily toggle easily between bright light and the IR illuminator/laser. This feature allows military and law enforcement personnel to remain in a proper firing position when making the transition from IR mode to white light, and vice versa. The light features a three-position mode rear selector switch, including IR illumination/IR laser, Safe Off (to prevent accidental turn-on), and visible illumination, that enables users to keep hands away from the muzzle during mode selection.

“The TLR-VIR II gives soldiers and first responders the ultimate in tactical lighting flexibility,” said Streamlight President Ray Sharrah. “With its high intensity white light and a long-running IR illuminator and Eye Safe IR laser for optimizing night vision, it’s an essential tool for those deploying with weapon lights.”

The new light, which is powered by a single CR123A lithium battery, uses the latest in LED technology for ultra-bright visible light, providing 5,000 candela, 300 lumens and a 1.5 hour run time. For IR lighting, the TLR-VIR II uses an 850-nanometer LED emitter with 600mW/sr radiant intensity, providing optimum illumination when using night vision equipment; it delivers a run time of 12 hours. Its IR aiming laser has fully adjustable windage and elevation settings.

The TLR-VIR II has an ambidextrous momentary/steady on-off switch. Like other TLR® models, the light has a rail clamp that can be easily attached and tightened with one hand, without the use of tools. The IR illumination/laser mode selection also features a tactile indicator on the light housing for switching modes with ease.

The TLR-VIR II is constructed from machined aircraft aluminum, with a coyote anodized finish body and a high-impact, chemically resistant polymer black switch housing.
The compact light weighs only 3.82 ounces and measures 3.30 inches long and 1.40 inches high. It uses a high temperature, shock-mounted, impact-resistant Borofloat glass lens. It is available in Coyote or Black.

Featuring extensively live-fire tested construction, the TLR-VIR II has an IPX7 rated design for waterproof operation to 1 meter for 30 minutes. It has an MSRP of $600.00.

Adam Savage’s Zorg Industries ZF-2

Adam Savage of Mythbuster’s fame is no stranger to the Zorg Industries ZF-1 from ‘The Fifth Element’, having made a couple of inert replicas for himself. However, his interest in the ZF-1 has extended to producing a functioning model of the highly-versatile sci-fi weapon, dubbed the ZF-2. For the purposes of function, the ZF-2 is roughly twice the size of the ZF-1, and weighs in at 40 lbs. It also isn’t a firearm for the purposes of practicality, instead using a stabilizing camera attached to a NERF dart launcher to replace the “gun” component, however it does have all the other features of the ZF-1 seen in the movie:

– Rocket Launcher

In short, Adam Savage’s ZF-2 is huge, impractical, and pretty damn cool.

Hollywood Collectibles – Aliens M314 Motion Tracker Prop Replica

This is the Aliens M314 Motion Tracker Prop Replica by Hollywood Collectibles: for people who love reproduction props, the movie ‘Aliens’, and have more money than sense. Coming in at $699.99, this isn’t for the casual collector, but to be fair, it’s extremely high-quality, and Hollywood Collectibles went through extensive effort to make it as movie-accurate as possible. To start, they tracked down all the original components that Prop Master Terry Reed used to make the original prop, just to create the master prototype that the production piece is based on. The piece itself is made of injection molded polymer, metal, and other mixed media, and also features movie-accurate working electronics and sound. Sure, it doesn’t actually track anything, but it plays a video sequence of the Xenomorphs popping up on the tracker, and the beeps becoming more rapid as they swarm in ever closer.

Here’s to Gaston Glock, who turned 90 today! Principle creator of debatably the greatest combat pistol line ever made, the Glock series polymer framed pistols, in use with the military and police forces of at least 48 countries, with over 5 million models manufactured since the early 80s. And while not the first production polymer-framed handgun to reach the public market (That would be H&K’s VP70), it’s the popularity and reputation of the Glock pistol that we can all thank/blame for the huge number of polymer-framed, striker-fired handguns currently on the market.

You Can Own Burt Reynolds’ Carry Revolver!

United Defense LLC is selling Burt Reynolds’ personal carry Rossi revolver, purchased from the auction of the late actor’s estate. The revolver, customized for Burt with the barrel shortened to 2 3/8″, was his daily carry while he resided in Florida. It comes with a custom Bohlin holster with the initials ‘B.L.’, the very same holster carried by the character B.L. Stryker, as played by Burt Reynolds, in the show of the same name. Not quite as punchy as the 6″ Colt Python his titular character used in ‘Sharky’s Machine’, or his .44 Automag in ‘Malone’, but as a .38 Special revolver, a very solid carry option.

Palmetto State Armory – Alien-51 AR-15 Stripped Lower Receiver

Capitalizing on the upcoming ‘Area 51 Raid’ that has become the subject of the latest 15 minutes of online amusement, Palmetto State Armory is offering pre-orders for their latest ‘meme’ lower, the “Alien-51”. Built to the same MilSpec standard as PSA’s other lowers, the “Alien-15” will feature a rollmark with the typical depiction of the ‘Grey’ extraterrestrial, complete with raygun in hand. The selector switch will be marked: ‘NO ENTRY’ – Safe, ‘STORM 51’ – Fire, and ‘RETREAT’ – Full Auto. PSA is taking orders through July 21, and will start shipping 4-6 weeks after that. Guns Lots Of Guns

‘Guns Lots Of Guns’ is a project by artist/illustrator Dan Fontana “celebrating the most unique and fearsome weapons from sci-fi, movies and video games.” The official website for the project shows off two upcoming posters detailing weapons from various fictional universes. The posters will be Giclee printed using ultrachrome inks on hahnemuhle 308 GSM archival paper. Now, the nuances of those details go way above my head, but you can easily assume these are intended to be some real high-quality prints.

Redpath Nations Ahegao Plate Carrier

Now here’s something you don’t see every day.

Jesse Redpath is making these carriers from a rather unorthodox pattern. Once you know the story behind the vest, it makes sense.

The idea came from a /k/ thread. This /k/arrier uses a combination of 500D Cordura and nylon with a ahegao print.

Foam padding is used on the user-facing side of the platebags for increased user comfort. Shoulder strap placement has been changed to be even wider for decreased neck discomfort along with ITW G-hooks being used in place of the conventional sewn in shoulder straps, allowing for servicing and customization of the straps. The front platebag includes a removable kangaroo placard attached by two QASM buckles. The kangaroo placard is lined with hook and loop to allow the insertion of magazine retention inserts. Also included with the carrier is a elastic cummerbund with magazine carrying capacity (3 magazines per side). The magazine slots on the cummerbund are sized to accept both 7.62 and 5.56 magazines.
