Saturday, March 22nd, 2014Nissan Announces Philanhropic Initiative In Support Of Wounded Warrior Project To Fuel Next Phase Of “Project Titan”
Friday, March 21st, 2014KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (March 21, 2014) – Nissan announced today its philanthropic initiative in support of Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) that will help fuel the next phase of “Project Titan,” the automaker’s second crowd-source vehicle program that will build the ultimate off-road capable full-size truck.
With the help of Titan fans, the vehicle will be outfitted with customized equipment designed to meet the unique needs of two injured service members who have been selected to take the ultimate outdoor adventure behind the wheel of Nissan’s brawny full-size pickup. WWP is a veteran services organization that helps post-9/11 veterans and their families’ transition into civilian life through a variety of programs and services.
“In addition to their physical wounds, service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder upon returning home,” said Adam Silva, chief development officer, Wounded Warrior Project. “We’re in the business of finding innovative ways to honor and empower these Wounded Warriors for a lifetime. Because of that, we are incredibly grateful to Nissan for providing this unique opportunity to two of these very deserving heroes.”
Announced at the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) Business Conference, veterans David Guzman and Kevin McMahon have been chosen by Nissan and Wounded Warrior Project to embark on an unforgettable adventure behind the wheel of Nissan’s Project Titan truck. Iraqi war veterans, Guzman and McMahon have both suffered significant physical and invisible injuries throughout their military service.
During a night convoy mission in Iraq, Guzman sustained a traumatic brain injury in addition to damaging his leg, wrist and mouth. Despite these pitfalls, he has since earned Associate’s degrees in culinary arts and interdisciplinary studies. McMahon also suffered several emotional and physical traumas requiring several surgeries because of his multiple deployments around the globe. Since his return, he has frequently volunteered with WWP, and even joined the organization as a WWP leader throughout New England.
An Adventure of a Lifetime
Guzman and McMahon will embark on a multi-day trek through Alaska with the help of a custom-built 2014 Nissan Titan. The ruggedly tailored Titan will enable the veterans to take on the natural terrain of the Alaskan wild. To assist in their off-roading explorations, the veterans will put Titan’s cargo carrying flexibility to the test by loading up the truck with an array of outdoor recreational and survival equipment. With a maximum towing capacity of 9,500 lbs, sliding bed extender, Utili-track™ Bed Channel System for optimum cargo hauling and a lockable bedside storage compartment, the Titan’s undeniable functionality makes it the perfect companion for the rigorous journey.
“With its first‐in-class features and serious hauling and towing capabilities, the Nissan Titan is built for handling The Last Frontier,” said Fred Diaz, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Parts and Service, Nissan North America. “The custom-built Project Titan is sure to amaze. Our goal is to create a truck that will cater to the individual needs of these fearless Warriors, and the only way we can do that is by pushing Titan to its limits with features never-before-seen on a Nissan full-size pickup.”
The Warriors’ ultimate Alaskan adventure was inspired by Joe Byers. Byers, along with 2,500 other outdoor journalists, was asked during a special media event at the 2014 Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show and Conference in Las Vegas to describe his idea of the ultimate adventure. When coupled with the Titan’s work-hard-play-hard design and rugged construction, Byers’ adventure concept will enable the wounded service members to experience Alaska’s beauty from all vantage points, whether perched on a mountain in Healy or waist deep in the Kenai River.
A Shared Adventure
For his winning submission, Byers will join the two injured veterans on their Alaskan experience. Additionally, Byers was awarded a one-year lease of a 2014 Titan PRO-4X of his own to take on his many annual hunts.
Equipped with a 5.6-liter V8 engine, 317 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque, electronic locking rear differential and Nissan Navigation System with color display and USB connectivity, Byers’ will be armed with a powerful full-size truck that has earned a reputation of being a rugged, reliable and spirited choice for active truck buyers. Designed to get the job done, whether that job entails hauling cargo, a trailer or just family and friends, the 2014 Titan combines no non-sense performance with an array of technology and comfort features.

Chiappa’s Fun Mfour-22 Carbine
Tuesday, March 18th, 2014MKS Supply, LLC, Dayton OH, March 2014 – Mfour .22 LR Rimfire carbine still a great and low cost fun firearm.
The Chiappa Mfour fires economically priced .22 Rimfire ammunition for a ton of some serious practice for its “bigger” 5.56mm /.223 brothers. Even in today’s .22LR hoarding situation the .22 LR is a real bargain compared to center fire ammunition.
The military lookalike Chiappa Mfour carbine is a terrific ultra-quality, accurate, serious platform to keep skills up or for transition to its big brother center fire carbine. And probably most important, the Chiappa Mfour is a bunch of fun!
The Chiappa Mfour comes with a detachable (dual aperture adjustable iron sight) carry handle assembly and Picatinny flat top for optics.
Specifications:
– Caliber: .22 Long Rifle
– Weight: 5.5 pounds
– Overall length: 34.25-inches
– Barrel Length: 16-inches
– Materials: Light weight and ultra tough polymer upper and lower receiver

Hackaday – Taserproof Clothing
Friday, March 7th, 2014User ‘shenzhen’ of Hackaday has devised a method of augmenting clothing items using carbon fiber tape to make them 100% taserproof. It involves making a cut into the lining of a jacket or other clothes, then placing a strip of iron-on no-sew hem tape topped with carbon tape into the lining, placing multiple strips as close as possible to each other while avoiding gaps, throughout the garment. Since carbon tape consists of thin conductive carbon fibers, it forces the electric current to flow through the tape instead of the body, even if a taser’s needle pierces the skin.

Two Major Announcements Put The AIR Back In AMERICAN AIRSOFT: TIPPMANN Sports And Wolverine Airsoft go “High Pressure” And Engineer A New Future
Tuesday, March 4th, 2014By: Alan “Thumpy” Covey – Thumpy’s 3D House of Airsoft
American gun enthusiasts hear the word “airsoft” and think toy-like plastic or very fragile pot-metal guns, built mainly in Asia; guns not able to hold up to the rigors of serious training, handling, use or abuse. But, that has been changing…and is about to get two new boosts from a pair of US companies that couldn’t be any different from each other. But, both are ‘bullish’ that they have innovative ways to change the American marketplace.
A quick primer: Airsoft is primarily one caliber – 6mm plastic BB’s, pushed out of smoothbore guns by compressed air. Right now, the foremost systems are called Air Electric Guns or AEG’s, which use gears, a piston, cylinder and spring, powered by a DC electric motor and battery to propel BB’s downrange. A competing system (GBB – Gas Blow Back guns) use high pressure gas to do the same thing. Both models can simulate recoil “kick” and some even field-strip like their one-to-one “real-steel” counterparts…the current fascination with airsoft as a war-games tool and even as a safer-alternative training gun for firearms enthusiasts.
But TIPPMANN Sports, a leader and innovator in paintball guns for decades, and new startup WOLVERINE AIRSOFT are about to bring the manufacture of two gas systems back to airsoft’s roots in high-pressure air…and, build their products in the USA.
TIPPMANN announced at last week’s Paintball Extravaganza event in Virgnia their entry into airsoft, the M-4 carbine…a clone of most AR-style guns with the guts of their highly reliable and rugged paintball markers reworked to fit inside a 1:1 scale upper and lower that will accept most real M-4 grips, stocks, rails/hand guards and accessories. Powered by 12-gram co2 capsules inside the 80-round magazines, the M4 will also alternately use regulated air tanks and current AEG airlift magazines.
Most important to their US market position is TIPPMANN’s established parts, service and distribution networks, and the brand reputation for rugged reliability that might find a true market as training arms for military or Law Enforcement agencies, many of which already use paintball as force-on-force training guns, or for pepperball devices in detention facilities. Expect a summertime release for a product that’s already gaining near-viral attention in paintball AND airsoft circles.
Meanwhile, from Tennessee comes WOLVERINE AIRSOFT with a more basic and elegant engineering idea. Why replace all those existing AEG airsoft guns, when you can drop-in a replacement cylinder with ONE moving part! Called the SMP, for “Single Moving Part,” this system will use High Pressure Air in backpack tanks, regulated with an electronic trigger assembly. That takes the finicky and often-troublesome guts & gears out of the 1970’s Japanese technology of today’s AEG, yet keep their upgraded and more-modern outer shells, which have been getting better and better with age and materials-technology improvements.
A third American company, Delaware-based PolarStar Airsoft has had a more-complete HPA system on the market for several years now, called the Fusion Engine. But, judging from the viral social media reactions, there is probably room in the USA market for all three American entries. A trio that will “bear much watching” as 2014’s spring and summer release dates approach.

The compact design of the TCR features four Picatinny rails, folding front and rear sights, a folding vertical front grip, and an 11″ barrel. This modular design also features a modular stock for future upgrades to an air-in-stock design.
Finally, the TCR can be converted to use a standard hopper feed for non-magfed play. A new TCR comes with a 7-Ball and 12-Bal magazine and will be available later this year.
