MultiCam In Call Of Duty And Battlefield

Saturday, November 12th, 2011

MultiCam has gained more prominence in the entertainment industry, being featured in recent movies, tv shows, and video games. Here’s a few examples of some high profile games that have featured MultiCam in some capacity.

The first instance in the CoD series featuring MultiCam starts at Modern Warfare 2. Though not directly mentioned, it seems like members of the multinational Special Forces group Task Force 141 featured in the campaign and Multiplayer are wearing a MultiCam variant that makes up the coloring of their kit and pants.

Modern Warfare 3 is one of the few games that feature MultiCam by name. If you’ve played MW3, or watched any videos online, then it’s likely you’ve noticed that Metal Team, the campaign’s resident Delta operators, are decked out in MultiCam battle uniforms, as are the Delta multiplayer models. It’s also an unlockable weapon’s skin that can be used on all the game’s primaries.

Finally, Battlefield 3 has MultiCam as worn by the Marine EOD operator in your squad in Single Player. It’s also an unlockable multiplayer skin as ‘Paratrooper’ camo (pause at 0:47).

New Modern Warfare Live Trailer: n00b vs. Vet

Saturday, November 5th, 2011

This has got to resonate with some salty dawgs out there. Whether you’re an NCO or maybe a crusty old member of the tac team…this is going to make you sniff, touch your cheek and think…I remember those snot-nosed little fellers…they turned out all right. Likin’ the actors too.

Greatest Music Video In Recent History?

Friday, November 4th, 2011

This music video for ‘The Walk’ by Mayer Hawthorne totally gives off a ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ vibe. The song itself is pretty damn good as well.

Live Battlefield Gameplay…not too shabby!

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Live action trailers and videos from first person shooters aren’t a new thing. They range in quality from really awesome to truly abysmal (though some of the latter are roughly equivalent to your average SyFy movie). Here’s one portraying Battlefield 3 from EGM Now (note that it was made before the game was released, apparently). Pretty good work for a home project filmed on a camera duct-taped to a bicycle helmet!

By the way, if you haven’t read it, the Mad Duo wrote a review of the BF3 campaign over on Under the Radar. Check it out.

Stay in the Fight: Covert Prep for the Zombiepocalypse?

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Soldier Systems Daily just ran an article about SGM (Ret) Kyle Lamb’s new book Stay in the Fight (a handgun oriented sequel to Green Eyes Black Rifles). It’s a great read, good for shooters over every background and skill level, and the author is definitely someone who can opine with authority about pretty much anything he wants when it comes to tactics, doorkickery and shooting. After all, this is a man who ran with Special Forces teams from Mogadishu to Mosul and everywhere in between. If you’ve never watched any of his Viking Tactics training videos, you really need to.

However, Tactical Fanboy has been doing some undercover, secret squirrel type investigative digging, and it appears, on the surface at least, the author may have had an ulterior motive in mind…perhaps he was privy to classified documents or real-time intel the rest of us weren’t allowed to see, but it may just be that SGM (Ret) Lamb was trying to get the country ready to fight in the zombiepocalypse.

Yes, the zombiepocalypse. Silly Halloween conspiracy theory? Possibly. Look at this picture then, captured from an unknown operator’s helmet cam:

SGM (Ret) Lamb, author of STAY IN THE FIGHT and GREEN EYES BLACK RIFLES conducting risky live fire training vs. the walking dead...you'll fight like you train.

Still think it’s hokum? What about the news from a few months back that Dan Costa was stepping down as CEO of 5.11 Tactical, allegedly to work on his various charitable endeavors (especially one for at risk youth)? Perhaps he wasn’t stepping aside for that at all. PERHAPS he needed to focus all his attention on preparing some sort of zombiepocalyptic survival redoubt for his family and those of his employees?

Still dubious? Check out this picture, snapped by one of our eeeee-light team of tactical bloggers:

Kyle Lamb and Dave Rhoden Surrounded...Publicity stunt for Halloween or Prepping for the Zombiepocalyptic End Times? You be the judge.

Now, unless we’re way off our mark, that’s SGM Lamb and one of his cronies, a 5.11 Tactical guy named Dave R. (we’ll hold his last name in confidence until we can confirm the authenticity of the photo). As you can see, SGM Lamb is jocked up for a fight and Dave appears to be drawing a side-arm. The idea that the author would bring Dave along on a training or even operational mission isn’t that far-fetched. Dave has some tactical background, is a good shooter, is fit and renowned for his hearing (makes him a great scout). He’s actually an honorary Lance Corporal in the nation of Val Verde, where he once spent a summer lost in the jungle until rescued by none other than Col. John Matrix. He may or may not have once operated as a private contractor in Vulgaria. Speculation is discouraged and all official records have been buried.

Plus, if SGM Lamb got in a tight spot, he could always just kneecap him. It’s just effective use of distraction tactics.

We’ll report more on this story as we get further intelligence. In the meantime, check out the books and the videos. It’s worth your time.

Happy Halloween.

Action Figure Therapy Comedy Tour

Sunday, October 30th, 2011

Looks like Ranger Up Military and MMA Apparel is going to sponsor an Action Figure Therapy military base comedy tour (CONUS). If you have a good point of contact for you base, so they can start making arrangements, e-mail them to tour@actionfiguretherapy.com. As you may have read, AFT recently added a new Marine to their roster and have been having trouble getting the USO to let them tour. Lend them your support (just remember, the language in their videos is by no means safe for work).

If you haven’t ever watched an Action Figure Therapy video, you should do so immediately. Like ’em on Facebook and tell ’em Tactical Fanboy’s eee-light team of fightin’ tac-bloggers sent ya.

Blast From The Past – Gun Kata in Equilibrium

Friday, October 28th, 2011

Remember the movie Equilibrium? Y’know, the one where Christian Bale does all those improbably sweet ‘Gun Kata’ moves with his dual heavily-modified Beretta 92FS’s and AR70s, G36s, 870s, and the like, all stylishly liberated from his enemies? Well, we sure as Hell do; that movie is badass! If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and watch it ASAP. It’s really one of Bale’s best pre-Batman films.

Tank Dog

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

Tank Dog could be the ultimate combination of dog and machine, blinding his enemies with cuteness before decimating them with a well-aimed shell. Or, it could just be a Halloween costume. Yeah, we’ll just go with the later.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Launch Trailer

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

The most anticipated game in history? Very much debatable. Does it look awesome? Hell yeah! After all, it is World War 3 we’re dealing with.

CoD: MW3 drops November 8th, 2011.

Bricks Of War

Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

I like stop motion. I like LEGO. I like Gears of War. This video by YouTuber ‘Kooberz’ combines all three into a very entertaining 2 minutes of minifigures being violent. I wonder if Traveler’s Tales, Epic Games, and Microsoft would be willing to make this the next game in the ‘LEGO’ series.

New BF 3 Trailer: Promises of Great Carnage

Friday, October 21st, 2011

There’s a new Battlefield 3 trailer out. It’s…majestic. Honestly, it’s going to be hard to decide between BF3 and MW3. It may just be best to love them both. Lot of pretty cool scenes in this. Our Riverine and VBSS friends are going to like what they see around the 49-50 second mark! SA-weet!

Look at about 37.5 seconds in. Is it just us, or does it look like you can give the grunts on the ground a shave with those rotors? Nice!

TacHacker – How To Throw A Knife Like Bill The Butcher

Thursday, October 20th, 2011

One of my most frequented internet destinations, Art of Manliness, has just put up an article and video on the always cool, but fairly impractical, art of knife throwing. Proper technique and the three primary types of knives are all covered, so you can start learning how to effectively chuck that pocket folder at any hunks of wood or would-be assailants in your path.

Ultimate Battlefield 3 Simulator

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

This simulator, which is be featured in an upcoming episode of The Gadget Show, uses a pre-release copy of Battlefield 3 in conjunction with various technologies to create one of the most immersive gaming experiences that currently exists. The technologies used include the world’s first, portable omni-directional treadmill (designed by Swedish company MSE Weibull), an Xbox Kinect camera hack, a wireless gun system, and ambient LED lighting, all encased within a 360 degree dome with five high definition projectors. The system even simulates enemy gunfire, courtesy of 12 paintball markers that pelt the player as they take in-game damage. Too bad at the present moment it’s only available across the pond.

Is It Too Early For Chicks With Guns?

Monday, October 17th, 2011

The story is revenge, or at least the plotting of revenge when this waifish model type played by Liberty Ross comes home covered in bruises in the short film, ‘Packing Heat’ by Johnny Green. Presented by Damaris Lingerie, the point of the story is the drawers and not the technique. Hell, she must have watched a bunch of 70s cop shows to train up for this considering the cup and saucer grip she takes.

I gotta say, that gold-plated Luger is pimp.

POV BASE Jumping

Monday, October 17th, 2011

It’s awesomely insane enough that three dudes would dare to scale the 610 ft. Gran Hotel Bali in Benidorm, Spain and BASE jump off it. It’s even better that one of them wore a camera and put the footage on YouTube. Videos like this always manage to scare the hell out of me.

The Story Behind AFT’s New Gyrene

Monday, October 17th, 2011

As you may have already seen, the team at Action Figure Therapy have added a new character to their roster—at long last, a US Marine. One of the Soldier Systems-Tactical Fanboy eee-light writin’ unit of tactical bloggers caught up with Dan Bialek, the man behind AFT, and asked him for some details about the decision to add a gyrene to the mix. He told us there’d been calls for a Marine AFT character for a long time, that it was a foregone conclusion that they would add one…the question was how to do it.

“The decision for a Marine character took a lot of thought,” Dan said. “Obviously there was a lot of demand for it, and we try to listen to our fans, but we want to remain autonomous and not pander. That would ruin the series and we wouldn’t suit everybody anyway. We put two or three different posts up on Facebook…got between 150 to 300 responses at a time. [He laughs.] Some were constructive and some weren’t, some were printable and some weren’t.”

It might surprise a lot of AFT fans just how seriously the comedy team took the decision. It frequently does surprise people once they learn how much time goes into the AFT video process. Determining subject matter (frequently based on suggestions from their fans), writing the scripts, recording the audio, rerecording the audio if it doesn’t come out right… There is a lot to it. As simple, crude, at times brutally profane as the series is none of it is taken lightly, or written off-hand. They knew they had to get their jarhead right, because they’d only be introducing the new Marine once.

“We did a ton of research for the Marine charcter,” said Dan. “Watched a lot of documentaries, read a bunch, took everything everyone said or told us and took it all into consideration. We didn’t want to just throw together a hodge-podge of clichés, especially from a character from a branch of the service we’d never featured before.”

It was obvious Dan and his crew like the way the Marine’s personality and demeanor turned out.

“This character is always right, even if he knows he’s wrong. His ethos is that he’s always right…we wanted to reflect that attitude a lot of Marines seemed to express. They have this…it’s almost like they’re proud of living as hard and being treated as badly as they are…where they love the Corps but they know the Corps shits on them so f#*& the Corps but they love the Corps at the same time. It’s their Marine Corps.”

Watch the AFT video Semper Fidelis.

They must’ve done their research right, and their writing must’ve been more inspired than usual. The new AFT Marine video is on track to be their most popular video yet, and the ending is sublime.

“We were very proud of the ending…we thought it was clever and an accurate solution to the stereotype people expected. We didn’t want just that cliché. Jerry [Jerry, the voice of the Marine character] recorded the video one night and it was super funny, but I knew the voice wasn’t quite what it needed to be, so I called him and asked him to come back over and do the voice again meaner and louder. When he came back over he just sort of absorbed the character and we thought…people are going to like this character.”

Dan was right. A lot of people do like the Devil Dog and are standing by for his next diatribe. “Honest to God, dick blood and tears. Try it!”

If you’re interested, go over to AFT creator Dan Bialek’s Facebook page and download a free copy of his standup CD. Just click the “Free CD” tab on the left side of his page to get it. You should also watch their website and Facebook page for updates on seeing the AFT characters in person. They’re currently looking for CONUS bases (mostly in the southern California area, to start with) that might be open to letting them perform.

We’d like to thank Dan Bialek and his beloved, vitriolic cast for taking the time to talk to us and helping us reach us new heights in profanity.

“You don’t believe Marines are tough? We train our testicles to fist bump after every kill!”

The Avengers Trailer

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

A live action adaptation of arguably the most famous super hero team in comic books written and directed by none other than Joss “Firefly” Whedon. Admit it, your inner nerd is beyond overjoyed. The Avengers drops May 4, 2012.

Official Blackwater Video Game Trailer

Friday, October 7th, 2011

This is the latest trailer for the officially licensed Blackwater video game. Features include ‘Blackwater real combat tactics’, officially-licensed weapons, and more that 25 different Kincect moves. I know the game’s main selling point is it’s Kinect compatible, but I really hope there’s a controller option; I’d like to spare myself the indignity of pulling the pin from an imaginary grenade with my teeth. Blackwater drops November 1st, 2011.

Syndicate Announcement Trailer

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Syndicate is an upcoming FPS being developed by Starbreeze Studios, who also worked on ‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena’ and ‘The Darkness’. It’s a reboot of an early 90’s real time strategy game of the same name, but its current iteration looks more like Deux Ex than Starcraft, which in my opinion is in no way a bad thing. I’d have to see more as the game gets closer to launch, but this trailer alone has me pretty excited already. Syndicate drops February 21st, 2012.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Gameplay

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Take a look at this demo gameplay from the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines. It’s chock full of rampaging Xenomorphs, badass Space Marines and M41A Pulse Rifle-y goodness. The more footage of this game I see, the more I’m convinced Gearbox is doing the Aliens property right. The magic starts around 1:50.

LEGO Lancer

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

This is one of the more impressive LEGO projects I’ve seen on the internet: a working Lancer assault rifle from Gears of War. It’s life-sized and shares almost all the features of it’s fictional counterpart, including a removable box magazine, semi and full auto firing modes, a safety mechanism, and a functioning chainsaw(!). It’s ammo supply? Rubber bands, naturally.

Cardboard Warfare 2

Tuesday, September 27th, 2011

A squad from Cardboard Company is sent to locate and kill a Nazi Officer responsible for the deaths of countless American lives.

That’s the plot synopsis for Cardboard Warfare 2, a WWII short film made with a heavy dose of cardboard weaponry, equipment, vehicles, and bottles(?) combined with the finest special effects modern software combined with good ole’ creativity can offer. Sure, it’s quite a bit different than the original Cardboard Warfare, but it’s arguably more entertaining as a result.
