The first part of an episodic gameplay trailer for Battlefield 3, the upcoming release from DICE. The game already looks amazing, running on a pre-alpha build, and it looks suitably realistic compared to other recent war titles. I’ve also noticed the models of the scope and rifle look very similar to those found in Medal of Honor’s multiplayer. The second part of the trailer comes out on the 16th this month.

Battlefield 3 Trailer: Fault Line Episode 1 “Bad Part Of Town”
Thursday, March 3rd, 2011LEGO Battle Of Hoth
Saturday, February 26th, 2011This LEGO layout is just epic. It’s so epic, that if it were made into an actual set, the instructions included with it would easily, and literally, blow the mind of any 12-year-old foolhardy enough to attempt to build it. Built by Bo Jensen of Copenhagen, Denmark, the layout was recently presented at LEGO World 2011. It’s constructed from 1,500,000 individual bricks and took over a thousand man hours to complete, and includes 5 AT-ATs with two of them that walk, moving speederbikes and Snowspeeders, and a detailed interior of the rebel base, among other features. The only thing that could possibly top this is a layout of the final battle in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Any takers?
RAGE – Untethered Trailer
Saturday, February 19th, 2011
A new release from Id software that looks to combine the best of both Fallout and Borderlands? Yes please! Too bad we have to wait until September 16th to enjoy it.
Zombie Island Announcement Trailer
Thursday, February 17th, 2011From what I could dig up it’s a FPS (First Person Shooter) that takes place on a resort island called Banoi that undergoes a zombie infestation. And unlike most other zombie titles, you won’t be loaded with firearms and be a one-man zombie killing machine. Instead, the goal is survival, reportedly using anything you can get your hands on to fight back the undead hoard. This includes kitchen knives, pipes, even tree branches, and items can be combined to improve their usefulness. However, since you’re an Average Joe, your not the most competent fighter alive. To remedy this, an in-game skill tree can be used to improve your character’s combat proficiency. Character models also feature real time damage, and individual bones can be destroyed, so one poorly placed blow can be the difference between a headless zombie, and one just missing a jaw. Plus, based on the trailer, it seems to be taking a more emotional and realistic look at a zombie outbreak, which is just fantastic, provided some group doesn’t bitch about there being zombie children.
It’s being developed by Polish developer Techland, who are most famously known for the Call of Juarez games. If you ask me, going from a Western series to a modern day Zombie game is a pretty big leap, especially considering the abundance of the Zombie theme in current culture. Still, considering the game has been in development for at least 3 years, and the vastly different tone when compared to similar titles, this looks like it’ll be a huge hit when it finally gets released.
Whip, Kick, BOOM Bulletstorm Trailer
Thursday, February 17th, 2011A trailer for the upcoming game Bulletstorm, which further shows off the skill shot system that rewards players with points for creative kills. These points then can be used to purchase better in-game weaponry and abilities. Although the music is a little too ’12-year-old’s MW2 sniper montage’ for my taste, the game does look sick (in a good way) and is sure to have uptight “parenting” groups in a rage when in comes out on the 22nd. And as the video reminds you, Bulletstorm isn’t going to pre-order itself; you have 5 days.

WOLF’s Den
Friday, February 11th, 2011Youtube user drewolf has a series of videos dealing with the airsoft and paintball industry. This particular video shows how to use MOLLE, the Magpul PTS Masada ACR made by ARES Airsoft, and a photo shoot of Full Clip products.
Social Darwinism At Its Finest
Thursday, February 10th, 2011Oh, where to begin? With this list, of course:
-He didn’t assume it was loaded.
-He pointed the gun at his foot, which is something I assume he didn’t want to destroy.
-He put his finger on the trigger, while assuming it wasn’t loaded, despite not aiming at anything.
-It’s damn sure he wasn’t aware of his target. Well, he was after the bullet impacted his foot.
In case you didn’t follow, that list is basically an antithesis to the four rules of firearms. It just boggles the mind how someone who is supposedly trained to handle firearms can be this stupid. The best part is he assures the class he’s a professional, and that he’s the only one trained enough to handle the Glock, when all of a sudden, disaster strikes! Sure, the video’s old, but the message is timeless: follow the rules, and you might not end up like ‘The Footless Wonder’ there.
Cat Shit One Episode 1 Free
Thursday, February 10th, 2011Just another reminder that the first episode of Cat Shit One is free on Youtube until February 19. You can also purchase the first episode on Blu-ray or DVD, which includes 75 minutes of special features and the inclusion of blood and gore that was omitted from the Youtube showing. Plus, the bad guys are camels, which is hilarious.
Iraqi Soldiers Suck At Jumping Jacks
Friday, February 4th, 2011The title says it all. I know there’s the concept of cultural differences, but you’d figure that wouldn’t affect something as simple as a jumping jack. In fact, this article found on Cracked.com does so much (hilarious) justice that I won’t even attempt to match it. It’s nothing short of pure gold.
Badass LEGO Guns: The Movie
Thursday, February 3rd, 2011I wrote about the book ‘Badass LEGO Guns’ a little while ago. Now, the author has released a Youtube video of the titular weapons in action. The Warbeast seems to be particularly devastating when used on tiny LEGO brick houses and thin paper backgrounds.
Time Freeze Shootout
Thursday, February 3rd, 2011Yet another video by ‘freddiew’ that seems to be somewhat of a sequel to his earlier Chrono Trigger vid. For a recap, he mostly uses special effects such as green screens and editing software along with airsoft weapons to achieve the desired results. It’s always cool to see what you can come up with using modern software.
Indian Terminator
Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011This craziness is from a movie called Endhiran, and it’s the most expensive Bollywood movie ever produced. It also happens to be India’s highest grossing movie of all time. Is it hard to see why? BTW, there’s also dancing (it’s Bollywood, what do you expect) that’s thankfully cut from this video.
Leatherman: Now You’re Ready
Monday, January 31st, 2011This is clip of Russel Crow in the movie ‘Proof of Life’ turned into a faux commercial for Leatherman tools. I guess it’s called a ‘multitool’ for a reason.
Thanks to USPalm for the link.
Air Guitar ala Afghanistan
Sunday, January 30th, 2011Yet another reason to be thankful the Canadians are a part of the Coalition. Captured in Panjwai, Afghanistan.
Cat Shit One: The Animated Series English Dub On Youtube
Thursday, January 27th, 2011Starting February 5th, Youtube will be hosting a free viewing of the first episode of Cat Shit One: The Animated Series for a period of two weeks. A series by manga artist Motofumi Kobayashi, the original story took place in a Vietnam war where all the humans were replaced by animals. Americans are represented as rabbits simply because the Japanese word for rabbit in romaji is Usagi which leads to: USA G.I. The Blu-ray and DVD editions of the series will also be available on Amazon.com the same day as the episode appears on Youtube.
Check out ida-entertainment.com for the vid when it comes out.
Everything Is A Weapon
Wednesday, January 26th, 2011This is a demonstration showing how an elderly man can use a simple rolled up newspaper to kick the ass of a guy with a bad haircut and no fashion sense. My dad used to tell me everything is a weapon. I never believed him, but I guess it’s true. Of course I could argue that shoving anything into a man’s anus is deadly in and of itself, but this is so impressive that it’s worth mentioning.
NSFW – Trashtalking Doesn’t Work in Real Life It Seems
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011Rooster Teeth, creators of the popular Machinima franchise Red Vs. Blue has recently started a new series they call Immersion, where they introduce video game-related situations to real life scenarios. In one video, they introduce ‘Shane’, a 13 year special operations veteran, who proceeds to fire ten rounds at a target 100 yards out. Afterward, he repeats this exercise, but with the addition of simulated multiplayer trashtalking and all the swearing, name calling, and general annoyance that comes with it, courtesy of the Mega 64 crew.
It’s hilarious stuff, but if the title didn’t give it away, it’s not something you’ll want to view in the work place or near those with sensitive ears. Click at your own risk: Immersion: Online Gaming Distractions
Always Check your Six
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011I’m far from suggesting that Black Ops accurately depicts combat, but some rules of engagement are universal in both real life and the digital arena. For example, disaster always strikes when you don’t cover your rear flank:
Moral of this clip: Lay down a claymore or you’re just feeding someone’s killstreak rewards. Preferably mine.
The Kick Dummy
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011It’s a dummy you use to practice kicking a man in the crotch. At least, that’s all the commercial seems to imply. And while that is a fine defensive move (sarcasm), it’s not the end-all-be-all technique that will save your life in every engagement. Hell, after hearing about this, I might just have to start wearing a crotch protector of some kind so I don’t accidentally get kneed in the sack by a former Royal Marine Commando’s daughter due to simple miscommunication. In fact, until I went to the actual website, I almost though it was a joke.
Long story short: This product is completely retarded. I don’t really care how un-PC that is, it’s the truth. If you really care that much about self-defense in the first place, put yourself, or your loved ones, through a self-defense or martial arts class and leave this steaming pile of rip-off in the infomercial where it crawled from. “As used by the world’s meanest fighters”, my ass.
Freddiew’s Youtube Vids
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011Director and Youtube partner freddiew has released a number of imaginative videos covering a variety of subjects. The ones of most interest to me, however, are those dealing with gun play, like the above ‘Chrono Trigger: Short Action Scene’. Using airsoft weaponry, special effects, and good old fashion talent, these videos are very entertaining, if not always realistic, and rival even the biggest budgeted action flicks. There are even tutorials on his alt channel for those who want to try their own hand at making combat scenes and more. And yeah, he did aim a little high from cover; but it is just a video.
‘Downfall’ Of The ACR
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011Now over a year old, the ‘Hitler Downfall’ meme is pretty dead, and so was this vid as far as we knew. YouTube at one point had pulled all of the videos, including this one. It was used to lampoon all sorts of stuff but it’s a rare situation when the subject being parodied had to do with the tactical industry. We originally posted it around SHOT Show last year when the ACR was finally released to a market weary of a rough economy and high priced guns. On that note, behold as Hitler rages about the ACR’s high price point! Everyone was up in arms about it back then but now a year later, accepts the price as part of doing business. Hope this gets your SHOT Show juices flowing, but beware, the subtitles are NSFW.
The video is also available on Youtube in a higher quality, but isn’t availabe for embedding. You can watch it here.
Solution To The .50 William Tell
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011Lately we’ve been getting a few e-mails asking about the authenticity of the infamous .50 cal William Tell video. Well, after seeing it was done by Youtube special effects guru freddiew, whose Time Crisis video I posted a while back, I knew it was nothing more than the clever use of special effects. It doesn’t even take that much digging to prove as much, as he posted the behind the scenes vid on his alternate channel.
Just goes to show how far you can go with a little special effects.
Team Fortress 2 Sentry Gun
Tuesday, January 18th, 2011WETA workshop is no stranger to props based on popular videogames, and this level 1 sentry gun from the class-based multiplayer game Team Fortress 2 continues this trend. Featuring a motion sensor and full audio, it now stands guard at Valve’s lobby, tracking every visitor with its deadly (non-functional) cannon. I’ll admit it’s a very cool prop, but it doesn’t satisfy the ultimate Valve-based question: ‘When the hell’s the next Half-Life game coming out?’
