ASP Introduces Blue Line Accessories

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018

Appleton, WI, April 30, 2018— Armament Systems and Procedures (ASP) has introduced a collection of products featuring the well-known “thin blue line” design, universally recognized as a tribute to the contributions and sacrifices of law enforcement. The company’s new Blue Line Collection includes a Sapphire rechargeable clip-on flashlight (MSRP $24), a pair of multi-tool, liner lock pocket knives with integral handcuff keys ($32-$45), tactical belts ($20-$21), a logo cap that fits ASP Friction-Loc Batons ($17), and two different swivel handcuff keys ($22). Each is decorated using cloisonné enameling—a deep, permanent, heirloom-quality process that results in a finish that won’t fade or wear off, unlike painted or screen-printed surfaces. The flashlight and knives also have brightly-polished metal accents.

“ASP is single-minded in its focus on—and dedication to—law enforcement officers,” says Daryell Harmon, the company’s Vice President of Law Enforcement Sales, and a retired police officer. Harmon says that in addition to manufacturing products centered on officer safety, the company provides training programs to law enforcement around the world, at no cost to officers or agencies. “Everything we do revolves around these professionals, and these small commemorative products are just another way of showing it.”

Forming A Functionally Sharp Knife From Plastic Wrap

Tuesday, April 17th, 2018

In a roundabout way, this shows that just about anything can be turned into a weapon.

Proving this point even further, the same video creator turned a hunk of dried fish into a knife.

Outland Equipment’s Multi-Mission Axes

Friday, April 13th, 2018

Built for the unforgiving environments encountered by military, law enforcement and emergency response professionals, Outland’s American-made Multi-Mission Series axes are reliable tools for rescue and survival situations.

img_8572.jpg

Outland Equipment Multi-Mission Axe (MMA) 1503

Mont Vernon, N.H. (April 2018) – Although axes have been used throughout history as a tool and weapon, little has changed over the millennia in its design. For today’s first responders, military and law enforcement professionals, the axe is still a primary tool for rescue, breaching and survival scenarios. Outland Equipment designs and manufactures state-of-the-art axes and knives specifically engineered to meet the critical demands of those that go in harms’ way.

“A go-to tool for responding to emergency situations,” Chris Aiston, CEO of Outland Equipment, said. “We design these tools for those who operate in harsh environments where failure means disaster. They cut, pound and pry, facilitating structure and vehicle forcible entry and egress. Whatever a first responder requires his tool to do, the MMA series is there to complete the mission and save lives.”

Outland has produced three Multi-Mission Axes (MMA) that not only perform the requirements of an axe, but also integrate other functionality including hammering, prying, cutting seatbelts, cutting sheet metal and working with hex fasteners. The MMA 1502, 1902 and 1503 are all made from a single piece of hardened S7 tool steel, a steel formulated to withstand extreme shock and impact.

img_8573.jpg

Outland Equipment Multi-Mission Axe with extended handle 1902

The head of the MMA series features a 3.9 inch cutting edge with a bolt-on hammer and hex nut tool. The MMA 1502 and 1503 are 15 inches in length, a size convenient for carry and maneuvering in tight spaces. The MMA 1902 with its 19 inch length provides enhanced reach, impact force and leverage. The tail of the MMA 1502 and 1902 feature an angled pry bar, seatbelt cutter and sheet metal cutter. The MMA 1503 tail features an angled pry bar, seatbelt cutter and a hex wrench for urban and residential environments.

The handle grips are made of G10 material, a fiberglass-based epoxy resin that is not only extremely rugged but also impervious to moisture and chemicals, important factors for rescue operators. The handle has been shaped to offer the operator multiple hand positions to optimize a positive grip for the job.

All of Outland’s MMA axes are covered with a Modular Sheath that allows for easy access, quick deployment and multiple carry options. The axe is secured in the sheath using an internal latch and two BioThane® Coated Webbing straps. Carry options are endless for the operator, as the Modular Sheath accepts accessories for mounting on a belt or MOLLE gear, can be bolted to a vehicle or worn on a shoulder strap.

Helle Knives of Norway Unveils Latest Survivorman Knife

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018

Wabakimi knife designed and field-tested in cooperation with Les Stroud

Holmedal, Norway – (April 10, 2018) – Building on an 85-year tradition handcrafting knives designed and tested in the outdoors, Helle unveils its latest collaboration with Les Stroud, star of Survivorman. Named for the vast wilderness park in Ontario, Canada, the Wabakimi knife is designed for self-reliance in nature.

The third in a series of Helle knives designed with Les Stroud, the Wabakimi combines Helle’s 85 years crafting traditional Scandinavian knives with Stroud’s mastery of primitive skills. The latest addition is a medium sized, well-balanced knife small enough for hip carry, yet amply sized to make precise cutting and long carving sessions comfortable and efficient.

The new knife fits between the larger, best selling Temagami (2010), a practical wilderness knife, and the light and compact Mândra (2017) neck knife. The Wabakimi combines the advantages of the Temagami’s ergonomic handle and long, pointed blade with the Mândra’s rounded shape. Featuring a three-quarter, partial tang reinforced with two robust pins, the handle is made from curly birch wood with a lanyard hole and a 3.3-inch drop point blade using Helle’s renowned triple laminated steel.

The new design was conceptualized over several months and handmade prototypes from the Helle factory in Norway were sent to Stroud for extensive field-testing in Alaska. Each prototype received further adjustments and refinements based on invaluable feedback from Stroud. This approach of researching, prototyping, field-testing and refinement constitutes the heart and soul of the Helle design philosophy.

In 1994 Stroud spent a year living close to the land and surviving using only what nature provided in Wabakimi, part of Canada’s far northern boreal forests. “The Wabakimi wilderness helped shaped my path and set in motion a life celebrating nature and wilderness,” says Les Stroud. “With these experiences in mind, and working closely with my friends at Helle, we have created a knife worthy of this remote, wild place.”

”The Wabakimi knife represents nearly a decade working closely with Les,” adds Anders Haglund with Helle of Norway. “From our first meeting in 2009, to creating a collection of world renowned outdoor knives, we’ve come a long way both personally and professionally. We’re excited to see where the next journey leads.”

Wabakimi Knife Specifications:
• Blade material: triple laminated stainless steel
• Handle material: curly birch
• Blade thickness: 3 mm
• Blade length: 3.3-inches
• Handle length: 4.6-inches
• Sheath material: genuine leather

1942 Marine Combat Sword With Sheath

Saturday, April 7th, 2018

I just had to post this. It’s basically an unholy amalgam of a katana and a USMC Mark 2 combat knife made of AUS-6 stainless steel with a non-descript black coating. It has a half-tang, with a stacked leather handle. It comes with a nylon sheath with a shoulder strap.

There’s definitely a fantasy knives and swords shop in a near-dead mall somewhere that has, like, 5 of these up on the wall.

Zootility Launches the RNGR™ ST-2 Everyday Carry Knife

Wednesday, December 20th, 2017

The World’s thinnest featherweight 440C stainless steel knife

PORTLAND, ME – A radically new knife design, the RNGR ST-2 is a hyper thin folding knife constructed without screws or pins. Targeted at ultra-light adventurers and, at only 3mm thin, every pants pocket in America (regardless of how tight). Building on the success of its super lightweight credit-card-sized WildCard™ knife, Zootility’s RNGR ST-2 brings the convenience of WildCard out of the wallet and into the pocket. The most innovative EDC knife on the market, RNGR ST-2 is constructed of 440C stainless steel, a premium knife material, and is ultra-thin and light, allowing customers to store it conveniently, under the most extreme circumstances. Or under daily circumstances, in a pocket.

The patented two-piece design, is not only unmatched on the market, but allows the product to be entirely manufactured in the US, where the cost of manual assembly is at a premium. This design also allows the carrier to remove the blade without any tools. This is convenient, for instance at airport security, if one forgets they are carrying it. An easy mistake to make, given the low profile and minimal in-pocket feel. This duo-lithic design allows for easy cleaning as well; simply pop the pieces apart and place in the dishwasher.

“By utilizing stronger steel and increasing the thickness by a mere 1mm, we were able to make the blade and body more than three times as strong,” commented Zootility founder and CEO Nate Barr. “Our design and manufacturing teams have worked so hard on this project and we’ve made great product, RNGR ST-2 totally takes our EDC offerings to the next level,” added Barr.

RNGR ST-2
Weight: 1.4 ounces
Blade length: 2.2”
Blade thickness: .062”
Knife thickness: .125”
Material: 440C
Construction: Bolt and pin free
Airport security: Removable blade
Optional: Pocket clip

The RNGR ST-2 debuts today on Kickstarter with special introductory prices and offers. Barr hopes with the timing of this launch to attract last-minute Christmas shoppers who after backing ST-2 can print an IOU from the Kickstarter page.

3COIL Design – Puna And Crane Knives On Kickstarter

Monday, December 4th, 2017

3COIL Design is a “London based fashion and product design studio”, who have started a Kickstarter campaign for a couple of EDC tools, the Puna and Crane Knife.

The Puna

The Puna features a design overtly reminiscent of a modern day AR-15-like rifle. The upper receiver portion removes from the lower receiver, functioning as a tool knife with a scalpel blade. The blade is easily replaceable using the included ‘suppressor’ micro screwdriver, while two interchangeable magazines function as a Flathead and Phillips head screwdriver, respectively.

As a happy accident, the Puna also fuctions as a proper bottle opener.

The Puna comes in a slick aluminum case, roughly the size of a business card, laid out with all the separate components, including spare blades. As a bonus, the top lid is pocketed, and can be used to store business cards, and other like-sized items.

The Crane

The Crane, a bit more pedestrian when compared to the showy Puna, is, as claimed by 3COIL, the smallest folding scalpel blade in the world. Made of stainless steel with a silver color, it features a non-locking, spring-loaded mechaism, an open length of 3.7″, and utilizes a No.11 Scalpel blade. The Crane is normally made only in extremely limited numbers by 3COIL, and this is the first time they’re doing a full production run.

Gerber – Limited-Edition Strong-Arm & Ghostrike Knives

Tuesday, November 7th, 2017

PORTLAND, OREGON (November 3rd, 2017) – GERBER, a category-leading manufacturer of personal knives, multi-tools, and gear, just announced it will debut limited-edition versions of two best-selling products: the StrongArm Fixed Blade and Ghostrike Fixed Blade. The new variations of these popular fixed blades is two-fold; each blade has been upgraded to BDZ-1 steel with a stonewash finish, and the rubberized handles come in Tactical Grey. Both the StrongArm and the Ghostrike are proudly built in the USA at Gerber’s Portland, Oregon manufacturing facility.

“Gerber is always looking for ways to solve problems – that’s what we do,” says Karrson Koivisto, Product Manager at Gerber.

“The BDZ-1 Strongarm and Ghostrike products are ideal for adept users looking for enhanced edge retention while maintaining sharpening capability. Colors have been adjusted to an urban pairing of stonewash finished BDZ-1 and tactical grey overmold, a subtle combination welcome to any user’s kit. Gerber is building a limited quantity of this iteration of the best-in-class Strongarm and Ghostrike Fixed Blade Knives.”

STRONG-ARM BDZ-1

img_2899.jpg

The limited edition Strong-Arm is better prepared for the urban environment. It’s unique, multi-mount sheath system is easy to use and can be mounted vertically on MOLLE, horizontally on a belt, or in traditional drop-leg set-up. Due to its ability to achieve high hardness, excellent edge retention, and stain resistance the knife employs BDZ-1 blade steel – an ideal steel for utility and combat scenarios where your knife will be faced with broad applications.

The limited-edition Strongarm BDZ-1 combines a stonewashed, BDZ-1 full fine edge blade with tactical grey rubber handles, which complement a variety of urban-specific camouflage patterns.

GHOSTRIKE BDZ-1

img_2898.jpg

The option for concealed carry lies at the heart of the Ghostrike’s design – it is lightweight, easy to access, and the slim profile allows for a variety of discreet carry options on the belt. With a customizable sheath system for low profile and reduced printing, the Ghostrike is always on hand and ready at a moment’s notice.

WESN Titanium Micro Blade EDC Pocket Knife On Kickstarter

Thursday, October 26th, 2017

The WESN is a micro blade EDC knife currently up for funding on Kickstarter. Featuring a blade made of AUS8 steel and a grade 5 titanium grip, the WESN – which stands for West, East, South, North, lending to its design as a carry everywhere knife, is a durable daily carry knife with a small form factor deliberately sized similar to a key. What follows is a press release from the knife’s creator, along with a link to the Kickstarter campaign.

Kickstarter-only prices of $35 on the WESN — a titanium knife with a length of 3.6″. Available October 25.

The WESN is a titanium body micro blade measuring in at a total length of 3.6 inches. It has the practicality and versatility of a full-size knife—but at a fraction of the weight, and the size of a house key.

WESN Goods has launched an exciting Kickstarter campaign that offers backers exclusive early-bird prices on the WESN Micro Blade. WESN was founded by Billy Chester, who wanted to build a knife that combined all of his favorite parts and aspects from different knives he’d owned.

“When I started making the WESN knife, I didn’t have any grand ideas of starting a ‘knife brand,’” Chester says. “All I wanted was a knife that I myself would want to own—something reliable, practical, and made of the best materials. Plus, I wanted something worth every penny of the cost, and not a cent too expensive.”

By using top grade components, the WESN is made with some of the best materials at an affordable price: grade 5 titanium and AUS8 steel. Chester partnered with the top knife manufacturer overseas, meaning he produces the WESN out-of-country. This keeps the cost down, while still using top-grade, made-in-America components. The titanium makes the body simultaneously tough, hardy, and incredibly light. And by using AUS8 steel, the blade is durable, sharp, and made to last for years.

The full specs of the WESN are as follows:

  • Blade Length: 1.5” (38mm)
  • Closed Length: 1.9” (48mm)
  • Open Length: 3.85″ (98mm)
  • Handle Material: Grade 5 Titanium body
  • Blade Steel: AUS8 Heat Treated Steel
  • Hardware: Stainless steel
  • Frame-lock
  • Pocket Clip
  • Keychain Hole
  • Lifetime Warranty
  • Those interested in the WESN micro blade can visit WESN Goods at their website, and can purchase their own by visiting the knife’s Kickstarter page and backing the project.

    About WESN:

WESN Goods was started by Billy Chester as a way to pursue building practical, dependable, hard-working goods. Committed to using the best materials, WESN Goods promises to build things that carry far and carry well.

    SwitchGrip – GripKnife

    Thursday, August 10th, 2017

In my mind, the name GripKnife conjures images of Solid Snake’s CQC knife-in-support-hand style of weapon manipulation.

However, the GripKnife is actually a forend grip that mounts to a standard Picatinny rail, which houses a knife intended for hand-to-hand fighting. The creators of the Grip Knife state it’s designed for “…military-style carbines in close-quarter situations such as urban engagements, while inside military vehicles, or in any other situation where space is confined, the element of surprise is necessary, or the likelihood of hand-to-hand combat is great.”, and is made of “…advanced materials usually reserved for spaceships and surgical equipment.” The knife detaches from the grip by pressing a thumb-activated, rearward button on the base of the mount, for quick operation of use.
