Redband For ‘The Last Stand’ (NSFW)

January 13th, 2013

The redband trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s latest film, ‘The Last Stand’, features over-the-top action, a bit of coarse language, and, most importantly of all, gratuitous violence. Looks like a winner to me.

‘The Last Stand’ drops January 18th.

TrackingPoint – “Precision Guided Firearms”

January 10th, 2013

TrackingPoint is an Austin-based start up that designed three “Precision Guided Firearms”. These PGFs are highly modified bolt-action rifles fitted with advanced technologies including a computerized scope, powered by Linux, that features a HUD (heads up display) which, at the press of a button near the trigger, marks the target. It then measures multiple environmental conditions, including range, ambient temperature and humidity, and the age of the rifle’s barrel to plot the perfect shot; just aim at the plotted mark and pull the trigger. An iOS app also allows users to connect their iDevices to the scope’s display, to act as a spotter, and the scope’s video recordings can be uploaded to video sharing sites complete with HUD data. The pricing on the PGFs starts at around 17,000 USD, and you have to buy TrackingPoint’s hand loaded ammunition to insure proper performance, but hey, every rifle also comes with an iPad that includes TrackingPoint’s app preloaded.

venture-bros-season-5-teaser-image-02

The next season of ‘Venture Bros.’ is well on track, as evidenced with this image, along with many more found at the link below. For the uninitiated, ‘Venture Bros.’ is a deconstruction yet loving parody of ‘Johnny Quest’ and other shows of that era mixed in with plenty of pop culture references and humor, ranging from outright crude to fairly esoteric.

January 4th, 2013

Untitled

This UAV identification kit was created by James Bridle while he was Artist in Residence at the Visible Futures Lab at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Created from 3D modeling software and desktop printing technologies, the kit was based on military and civilian recognition kits, which were collections of models used to train gunners, radar operators and visual observers. Kit 001 was made using models of the MQ-1 Predator, the RQ-170 Sentinel, and the RQ-4 Global Hawk with human models for sense of scale.

HyTAQ Robot

December 28th, 2012

Yet another innovative UAV design, the HyTAQ robot was developed by the robotics lab at the Illinois Institute of Technology. It combines a quadrotor design with a rolling cage that allows for both terrestrial and aerial locomotion. This combination allows the HyTAQ to use the same actuator set and control system for both methods of locomotion. Additionally, due to its ability to switch between ground and air travel, the HyTAQ is capable of traveling four times greater and almost 6 times longer than an aerial-only system, and can simply fly over any obstacles it encounters on the ground.

Battlemug (P) Is Here

December 23rd, 2012

Battlemug is awesome but not everyone feels that they can afford a tankard machined from a solid billet of aluminum. So Battlemug’s creators developed a polymer version.

This model also integrates an M4-style carrying handle since you have to provide your own with the aluminum Battlemug. Although, the polymer version includes three M1913 rails for other accessories.
