Cold Steel – Thompson Saber

Tuesday, December 29th, 2015

One thing I like about Cold Steel is they’re not constrained by the typical. They’re not just a knife company, they make staffs and bats out of hardened polymer, offer full swords along with any EDC-capable knife, and they adopt or replicate older style weapons in many of their designs. That is readily apparent in the Thompson Saber, one of their latest designs in 2015. The Thompson Saber was created to Cold Steel President Lynn C Thompson’s specifications as a modern-day fighting saber. It was inspired by Thompson’s extensive experience with Western, Japanese, and Filipino fighting arts, made of 1055 carbon steel with a modified 1904 saber guard and a ray skin-wrapped handle.

Deadpool Red Band Trailer 2

Saturday, December 26th, 2015

It’s a trailer, so it’s meant to entice. Regardless, it looks like Fox is giving the Merc with a Mouth a much more comics-accurate portrayal than in Wolverine: Origins. Hopefully, when Deadpool comes out in February, it won’t suck.

Star Trek Reacts To Star Trek Beyond Trailer

Saturday, December 19th, 2015

Yeah, I kinda felt the same way. However, according to Simon Pegg, who co-wrote the film, the trailer isn’t really a good indicator of the tone of the film. I can buy that.

Star Trek Beyond Trailer

Monday, December 14th, 2015

Honestly, hearing Sabotage by the Beastie Boys in a trailer for a Star Trek film is a bit surreal.

Sunday, December 13th, 2015

Manufactured by nendo for SUGITA ACE, the MINIM+AID honestly reminds me of an extremely upsized VSSL. Roughly sized the same as a standard umbrella, the MINIM+AID is an emergency preparedness kit that “includes the bare minimum necessary for a city-dweller to make it to a place of refuge during an earthquake or other disaster.”

Included within the MINIM+AID is a whistle, handcrank radio/charger, raincoat, lantern, drinking water, and a general purpose plastic case. This is all contained within a 5cm wide tube that is waterproof and buoyant.

The MINIM+AID is, according to the manufacturer, slimmer and more compact that conventional emergency kits, and comes with an included strap to wear over the shoulder. The tube is available in Black, Silver, or White, and each tool is available in three different colors.

Die Klapperschlange

Saturday, December 12th, 2015

Die Klapperschlange or ‘The Rattlesnake’ is the alternative title for the German release of the 1981 John Carpenter classic ‘Escape from New York’, one of my favorite films of all time. I didn’t decide to post this poster for the trivia, but to bring attention to that rather unique rifle that Snake doesn’t get to use in the film proper (his primary arm in the film, for what it’s worth, is a suppressed MAC 10 outfitted with a rifle scope). It’s a bit difficult to determine exactly what model the rifle is, although if I had to guess it looks like some kind of AR variant with a unique pistol grip and a removed hand guard.

If anybody had more of a clue what it could be feel free to let me know in the comments section.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Trailer

Predictably, they’re making a sequel to that Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot/remake/whatever. At least the original April from the 80s movies is going to be in it.

Building A Live-Ammo-Firing Han Solo Blaster

Wednesday, December 9th, 2015

In an article written for NRA Shooting Illustrated, author Bob Boyd details the process of building a live fire version of Han Solo’s iconic DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol, easily recognizable as having been based on a Mauser C96 pistol. It’s a good read, detailing the cost and methods behind procuring and installing the necessary components to make the DL-44 replica as movie accurate as possible. Now the question is, who’s willing to track down a Sterling SMG and make it into a convincing, live firing E-11 replica?
