Wheelchairs for Warriors to Honor Combat Marine Injured and Amputated in War

Houston, Texas (September 28, 2018) – The mission to fit disabled and severely injured protectors with a mobility solution that fits their lifestyle and equip them for continued service to our Nation, continues. Wheelchairs for Warriors has identified their next deserving recipient.

Earlier this year they awarded an advanced wheelchair to Special Forces Green Beret Joseph “Joe” Lowrey of Ontario, California. He was shot through his helmet in Afghanistan in 2014 (during combat operations) from a high-powered rifle, which resulted in a traumatic brain injury and loss of the use of the left side of his body.

Wheelchairs for Warriors next mission turned to the Marines, thanks to Tejano Veterans of Houston, Texas.

We were introduced to Eric “Iron Fist” Morante, a United States Marine Combat Veteran who served 3 tours in Iraq and was injured along with 7 other Marines and a Navy Corpsman, when a suicide bomber detonated 3,000 pounds of explosive under a 15-foot section of bridge.

Sergeant Morante suffered a broken jaw and teeth, facial injuries, fractured wrist and his right leg was amputated, which has given him much discomfort given the limited options for movement of a very active Marine boxer who enters the ring as “Iron Fist” Morante. He currently gets by with a heavy and uncomfortable prosthetic leg and a pair of crutches.

An Interview with Eric Morante (USMC):

Wheelchairs for Warriors hero will be recognized and honored in Las Vegas November 7, 2018 at a red-carpet Producer’s Choice Honors (www.ProducersChoiceHonors.com) event, which will feature many prominent music and entertainment stars, including board member Susan Giacona.

Wheelchairs for Warriors was founded to meet a unique need within the rescue and service community for those disabled in the line-of-duty, fighting for our country or rescuing people in harm’s way, to include Combat Veterans, EMS, Firefighters, and Peace Officers.

Wheelchairs for Warriors provides custom-fit, complex, rehab mobility solutions designed for the warrior’s specific needs: depending on their injuries and lifestyle. These wheelchairs can be operated by head, finger, foot, shoulder, puff of breath, eye movement, etc. The wheelchairs can elevate and recline providing comfort and access while also providing relief to pressure points. The adaptive machines are designed by Paul Morgan, their Complex Rehab Seating Specialist.

Wheelchairs for Warriors is currently seeking other wheelchair candidates across the nation.

‘Inhuman Conditions: A Game Of Cops And Robots’ On Kickstarter

Tuesday, September 25th, 2018

If the title didn’t already place the thought in your head: ‘Inhuman Conditions’ is roughly a Voight-Kampff test made into a party game, and currently up for funding on Kickstarter. The game consists of an Investigator trying to determine whether the other player, the Suspect, is a robot or human. The Suspect is privately given an identity as a robot or human from the start, along with a role they have to portray that is known to both players, and the investigator has five minutes to determine the humanity (or lack thereof) of the Suspect.

It’s already met its funding goal, but it still has 15 days to go at the time of writing. f you’re interested, check out the link below.

Jim’ll Paint It – A♥P T-Shirt

Monday, September 24th, 2018

UK-based Jim’ll Paint It is a collaborative online storefront which consists of the works of an artist named Jim, and the “thousands of complete strangers who send him their weird and wonderful ideas.”, which are then turned into prints and printed on clothing items for sale. Unsurprisingly, many of these works happen to feature pop culture from various decades, including this A♥P t-shirt, which depicts one of the greatest hunters and one the greatest biologically engineered killing machines in the galaxy having fun at the beach, rather than trying to tear each other’s throats out, like usual.

I’m also partial to the “Dad’s Army of Darkness” print, because, we’ll, it’s inspired by ‘Army of Darkness’.

You can check out the rest of Jim’s products at jimll.co.uk.

Glock G45 – The Black G19X

Sunday, September 23rd, 2018

This article originally appeared on Soldier Systems Daily.

IMG_6231

With last year’s reveal of the G46 – a new rotating lug pistol design created specifically for a German Police solicitation, many of us were left wondering: “What about the G44 and G45?”. The G44 is still in the dark, but a leaked ad sheet has been making the rounds revealing the G45, and, somewhat surprisingly, it’s essentially the G19X, but in black.

The ad sheet, which is in German, claims that the G45 was designed for Military requirements, and, just like the G19X, features a G19-sized slide with a full, G17-sized grip. There are a couple of notable changes from the G19X design, however: the inclusion of front charging serrations on the slide (like the limited release ‘FS’ models) and a flared magwell that does away with the oft-criticized mag well cutout on the standard Gen5 models. This differs from the magwell of the G19X, which features a front flair which sits in front of the seated magazine, making it incompatible with the elongated Gen5 magazine floorplates. Aside from those changes, the G45 has all the standard Gen5 updates:

  • nDLC finish
  • Glock Marksman barrel
  • Ambi slide stop
  • Magazine w/ orange follower
  • Improved trigger mechanism
  • No finger grooves

1791 GUNLEATHER DEBUTS FIRST-EVER HOLSTER COMBINING CARBON FIBER WITH PREMIUM GUNLEATHER

    Saturday, September 22nd, 2018

Miami, FL, U.S. – (September 18, 2018) 1791 Gunleather®, innovative manufacturer of premium hand-crafted leather gun holsters and belts, today introduced the next evolution in premium leather holsters. The new “Project Stealth” gun holster series by 1791 Gunleather combines American heavy native steerhide with state-of-the-art flexible carbon fiber for the first-ever holster utilizing a proprietary, patent-pending combination of the two materials. The new line of luxury, wearable personal protection holsters incorporates the same patented, American-made CX6® carbon fiber manufactured by Carbitex, that is used by well-known premium brands in the modern automotive, high-end luggage, and professional athletic apparel markets.

“Project Stealth is like no holster you’ve seen before in terms of it’s contemporary, elegant look and exceptional, high-tech performance,” said 1791 Gunleather CEO Ramiro M. Romani. “The patent-pending Project Stealth series of holsters is where luxury, old-world craftsmanship, and the finest quality materials unite to deliver the most intriguing and fashionable EDC holsters ever seen. This outside-the-waistband series of holsters is not only lightweight and flexible, but extremely durable and aesthetically stunning,” he said. “Project Stealth represents the perfect marriage between classic and tactical, and will undoubtedly lead the way for many more provocative 1791 Gunleather products in the future.”

“By combining premium American, heavy native steerhide with high-tech, flexible CX6 carbon fiber, every day carry just became significantly more comfortable while achieving an unprecedented level of performance,” said Romani. “The Project Stealth series of holsters boast the broken-in feel of leather combined with the strength and durability of flexible carbon fiber. Your sidearm is surrounded by premium leather on the inside, and further protected by durable carbon fiber on the outside,” he said.

The 1791 Gunleather passive retention system is perfected by adding flexible carbon fiber to the mix. “And, while the carbon fiber you’re used to seeing in holsters is lightweight and strong, it’s also very rigid, inflexible, and tends to scuff your firearm. The advantage of using the state-of-the-art CX6 carbon fiber is that its malleable,” Romani said. CX6 technology harnesses carbon fiber’s trademark strength and lightweight characteristics in an adaptable form, and does not stretch. According to Romani, the holster has been engineered to provide a new level of function for wearers through its enhanced strength, suppleness, and superior firearm retention.

“Project Stealth pancake-style holsters contour to the body in the same fashion as our premium leather holsters, while presenting a reduced carry weight, and enhanced retention for the most discerning folks,” said Romani. “However, where our competition sells standard quality, leather-only holsters in excess of $120, the patent-pending Project Stealth holsters are being introduced at less than $100,” he said.

“Carbon fiber is used in aircraft, automobiles, and even helmets,” said Romani. “And by incorporating the latest generation of carbon fiber innovation into our newest holster designs, we’re offering you an indulgence you won’t find elsewhere. The sophisticated CX6 carbon fiber in our Project Stealth series is incredibly abrasion and UV resitant, its tensile strength is unmatched, and because of reduced weight, our holsters are less bulky, and perform exceptionally well year after year.” Perhaps the best advantage, stated Romani, “Is that our carbon fiber does not stretch, so responsive unholstering is guaranteed.”

1791 Gunleather Project Stealth Holster Features:

  • Engineered for comfort and style with 100 percent American-made materials – premium heavy native steerhide and Carbitex patented CX6 carbon fiber
  • Longest-lasting leather holster on the market
  • Only flexible carbon fiber and premium steerhide holster available
  • Remarkably flexible, molds to body
  • Extremely responsive unholstering with NO stretching for a precise, rapid draw time after time
  • Noticeably lightweight
  • State-of-the-art CX6 flexible carbon fiber delivers added durability, and will not stretch, snag, split, or break
  • CX6 carbon fiber delivers best strength and abrasion resistance
  • A lighter holster maintains carbon fiber’s lightweight characteristics while reducing overall carry weight
  • Bold, luxurious, and elegant
  • Offered in several styles including: BH1, BHC, BH2.1, BH2.3, and BH2.4
  • Outside-the-waistband, open top, multi-fit belt holster
  • Excellent retention for a wide range of firearms
  • Lifetime Warranty and 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee
  • Introductory MSRP: $99.99
  • Romani commented that CX6 is used by the world’s most discerning brands to push boundaries like never before. “We’re excited to create an entirely new product experience for our customers with patented carbon fiber technologies that are not only lab tested and consumer tested, but validated by athletes too,” he said. “Carbitex CX6 represents an entirely new standard of performance.”

“For the most reliable and comfortable all-day carry holster, choose the 1791 Gunleather Project Stealth holster that best fits your personal firearm. Handcrafted one at a time, Project Stealth Holsters are the most rigorous and distinctive holsters you’ll ever own,” he said.

Special Forces Operators and Improv Comedy Theater Partner To Form Most Unusual Corporate Training Program

    Friday, September 21st, 2018

What do Special Forces Operators and Improv Comedians have in common? Both work in highly stressful jobs where teamwork is paramount, quick thinking and adaptability are required skills, and potentially dying is part of the job (One literal, one metaphorical).

Arrow Security & Training, one of the foremost military, and government training companies in the world, and Improv Asylum, a global leader in improv comedy performance and training, have teamed up to create an unlikely partnership. Each company brings their unique approach to teamwork, communication, problem solving and innovation to create a one of a kind immersive interactive learning experience.

“When I first met Norm and we got to talking about what our companies do, I was blown away by the similar skill sets that are needed to do each job, even though on the face of it they seem wildly different” Says Joe Lopez , Founder and owner of Arrow Security & Training and a retired Special Forces operator. Arrow Security & Training facilitates live immersive training for military personnel preparing to deploy overseas, creating entire immersive worlds that soldiers live and interact in prior to shipping out to some of the most hostile places on the planet. AST works with Green Berets, the Navy SEALS, Marine Special Ops and even the CIA creating realistic environments, from rural Afghan villages to foreign embassies, teaching participants the skills they need to problem solve, work as a team and in many cases stay alive in threatening situations.

“Joe and his people are just amazing. They are the real deal and as soon as you meet Joe and talk to him you realize that these people are doing something really fantastic with their approach to training. Once I got past the fact that these people are actual American heroes, and that I make pretend for a living, we started to realize that at the base of things we both have devoted our lives to becoming experts at very similar skill sets; performing under pressure, problem-solving with not much more than our wits, and delivering results in a hostile environment; albeit in his environment are people trying to shoot you, ours is drunk people yelling shit at us.” says Norm Laviolette, owner and founder of Improv Asylum in Boston and NYC.

The two companies began testing an immersive training program at a private compound in New Hampshire that combined the brain training required for improvisation with on the ground SF activities to include withstanding interrogations, restraint defeat, rappelling, weapons training, reacting to a hostile adversary, negotiation techniques and much more. This led to the formation of a joint program called Series 18, with training facilities in New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Virginia.

“The most effective way to learn is to feel it. To do it. You can go to as many power point seminars as you want, nothing rewires your brain like being in a blacked out room handcuffed to a pole with AC/DC blasting as you try to stay calm and pick cuff’s lock” says Lopez. At the end of the day, it’s not about if you were able to pick the lock, it’s about staying calm and in control of your emotions when faced with an adverse situation”.

“The crazy thing to me is that the activities that people most feared weren’t the firing of machine guns, or being hooded and interrogated or rappelling off a cliff, it was doing improv. That just blew my mind and also says something about the universal fear people have of public speaking and presenting” says Norm.

Series 18 programs can be utilized by companies looking for an intensive team learning experience, or by individuals who can sign up for periodic public training sessions. Companies can choose from core programs to ultra-customized offering that can include anything from evasive driving techniques to multi-day military-style missions to performing a live improv show for an actual audience.

To learn more about Series 18 and their programs please contact Norm Laviolette at norm@series-18.com or go to www.series-18.com. Be forewarned, you will need an access code to view the website, and the Series 18 team is somewhat particular about who they give access to.

    Captive State Trailer

    Monday, September 17th, 2018

Extraterrestrials take over and make everything “better”, but at what cost? It’s not a new concept (X-COM, Colony, Half-Life 2), but it could be good. It is directed by the guy that did ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’, and that was actually a pretty decent film for a reboot franchise.

Captive State will be in theaters March 2019.

Fallout 4: New Vegas – ‘Ain’t That a Kick In The Head’ First 10 Minutes Trailer

    Sunday, September 16th, 2018

Fallout: New Vegas is a very well-regarded action RPG and is arguably the best of the 3D Bethesda-published Fallout titles yet released. Unfortunately, due to its age it’s a bit clunky from a “modern” gameplay perspective, and because of its incredibly short development cycle lending to sub-optimal performance, it can be a bit of a chore to run stably on a “modern” computer. However, a team of dedicated modders are currently working on a mod which consists of New Vegas, built completely from the ground up to run on Fallout 4. This mod will include completely redone voice work (for legal reasons) and even features the legacy SPECIAL and Skill systems from the older Fallout titles, instead of the leveling system seen in Fallout 4.

There’s currently no word on a release date, but it’s sure to be worth the wait.

1791 GUNLEATHER ANNOUNCES GUN HOLSTER BELTS

    Friday, September 14th, 2018

Miami, FL, U.S. – (September 10, 2018) 1791 Gunleather®, innovative manufacturer of premium hand-crafted leather gun holsters, introduced two new gun holster belts to their assortment of hand-crafted leather goods. Available now, in Classic Brown or Stealth Black, 1791 Gunleather Gun Holster Belts are designed to meet the highest expectations of every day carriers and include the 1791 Gunleather Lifetime Warranty.

“Thanks to the skill of our expert leather artisans the 1791 Gunleather Gun Belts 01 are practically built for carrying your firearm yet stylish enough to wear every day,” said 1791 Gunleather CEO, Ramiro M. Romani. “And considering the high level of quality craftsmanship combined with premium American leather, they’re very reasonably priced at $59.99.”

“When you invest in a handgun, its important to choose a strong, purpose-built belt designed to spread the weight of your gun over a wide area,” said Romani. “With lower-quality belts the weight of a holstered weapon can take a toll and cause sagging. 1791 Gunleather Gun Belts 01 offer just enough flexibility to remain strong, secure, and comfortable.”

1791 Gunleather Gun Belts 01 are constructed with full-grain, 14-ounce leather found only on the top and most durable layer of heavy native steerhide. “Our premium American heavy native steerhide is not sanded beyond tanning or dyeing, and the detailed process delivers a superior leather that’s perfect for rugged working belts,” said Romani. “Fashion belts are often made from leather or suede treated with processes that make them softer. Those methods can cause the material to degrade much more quickly, especially when bearing the load of a gun holster. Think of the difference in sturdiness between handbag leather and horse bridle leather. Which would you rather depend on for your EDC gun?” he asked.

1791 Gunleather Gun Belt 01 Features:

  • Built for longevity, comfort, and style with 100 percent American heavy native steerhide
  • High-quality leather warms and molds to your body
  • Reinforced leather delivers added durability for heavier pistols and revolvers, and will not stretch, snag, split, or break
  • Quick and easy-to-use stainless steel roller buckle
  • Genuine Chicago stainless steel screws for a tight, dependable hold (1791 Gunleather never use snaps, plastic, or synthetic materials of any kind)
  • Belt Width: 1.5 inches
  • Belt Length: Sizes range from 32/36 to 48/52
  • Available Colors: Classic Brown, Stealth Black
  • Lifetime Warranty and 100% Customer Satisfaction Guarantee
  • MSRP of $59.99 is a bargain compared to other high-quality gun holster belts
  • According to Romani, “Our heavy-duty 1791 Gunleather Gun Holster Belts are made to hold all your gear. Anything you want to carry on your waist, from IWB holsters, OWB holsters, flashlights, mag pouches, knives, hammers, tape measures, and multi-tools are options. And because our belts are so rugged, attractive, and versatile, 1791 Gunleather is a top choice among law enforcement, veterans, first responders, and patriots alike. They’re discreet and comfortable for concealed carry, and they’re built to last,” he added.

NRA Carry Guard Expo in Richmond CANCELLED Ahead of Forecasted Landfall of Hurricane Florence

    Monday, September 10th, 2018

RICHMOND, Va. –The National Rifle Association has cancelled the second annual NRA Carry Guard Expo, which was scheduled for Sept. 14-16, 2018 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, Virginia, due to the impending threat of severe weather associated with Hurricane Florence.

The cancellation was made in the interest of public safety due to the forecasted arrival of Category 4 Hurricane Florence in the mid-Atlantic region this forthcoming weekend, and the resulting declaration of a State of Emergency by the Governor of Virginia. This decision required careful deliberation and concern for the safety of attendees, exhibitors and others involved with the event.

Customers who purchased event tickets or tickets to paid workshops will receive refunds for their purchases.

Despite this major weather event being beyond human control, the NRA regrets any inconvenience caused by this decision. We look forward to welcoming guests and exhibitors next year to the 2019 NRA Carry Guard Expo, scheduled for Sept. 6-8, 2019, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Official Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – Blackout Battle Royale Trailer

Hang It, Fire! – 60mm NERF Mortar

    Thursday, September 6th, 2018

The 60mm NERF Mortar is not an official NERF product, but with its large foam mortar shells, the inspiration is clear. Modeled after an actual 60mm Mortar, the NERF Mortar is made of plastic, weighs about 3 lbs., and comes with three foam mortar shells. The reported range is just around 6 meters, so you’ll have to forgo any long distance shots, but it’d be a neat addition to any NERF war.

If you’re curious about the plastic cylinder that accompanies the shells, that’s the priming device. There’s a spring assembly built into every round, and that priming device is used to depress the spring which then locks into place, readying the round to fire. Once the round is primed and dropped into the mortar tube, the mechanism is activated by a protrusion in the tube and the round comes shooting out, like a real mortar; actually pretty ingenious.
