District 9: The Boardgame – Now On Kickstarter

Sunday, March 31st, 2019

Crowdfunding has become commonplace enough that even established companies are using it to greenlight what might be considered niche products. Such is the case with WETA Workshop and Trishula Entertainment’s Kickstarter campaign for a District 9 boardgame. Designed for 2-4 players, District 9: The Boardgame takes place during the film’s 3-day period as players pick one of 4 factions to salvage Prawn technology and take control of the district.

Eight More Athletes Earn Team Status at Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection Match

Saturday, March 30th, 2019

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 30, 2019) – Eight more athletes, including three Olympians and four Juniors, came to the U.S. Army Marksmanship’s Home of Champions in Fort Benning, Georgia and earned their spots in smallbore (.22 caliber) competition for the Pan American Games or two future World Cups on the final day of USA Shooting’s Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection Match. Airgun competition concluded Thursday with 13 athletes earning team status, four of whom also came back and earned team status in their smallbore events.

This match selected the competitors eligible to compete at the upcoming International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cups in Beijing, China and Munich, Germany; as well as for the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru later this summer. Top-two finishers earned Pan American Game Team selection, while top-3 earned World Cup Team spots.

Olympian Nick Mowrer’s mastery of two different disciplines was again on display. A top finisher in Air Pistol, he came back two days later and finished third in Three-Position Rifle. Mowrer (Butte, Montana) is already the lone shooter ever to earn World Cup medals in two different shooting disciplines and now he’ll spend his summer shooting both guns for Team USA.

Reigning Olympic gold medalist Ginny Thrasher (Springfield, Virginia) earned World Cup Team status in Air Rifle Thursday and then came back to finish second in Women’s Three-Position Rifle to earn a trip to the Pan Am Games. Pistol shooter Alexis Lagan (Boulder City, Nevada) also earned World Cup status Thursday in Air Pistol and then came back in Sport Pistol Saturday to make sure she was among the lucky few to represent the United States at this summer’s Pan Am Games as well.

After winning 10m Air Rifle Thursday, Tim Sherry (U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit/Highlands Ranch, Colorado) finished second in 50m Three-Position Rifle as the fourth athlete earning Team status in two events.

While those athletes enjoyed good performances throughout the week, another top smallbore performer included three-time Olympian Keith Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado). His world-class Qualification score of 1183 Saturday helped him easily walk away with top billing and a 19-point margin of victory in Rapid Fired Pistol. The Leverett siblings, Henry and Jack, will be joining him as top-rising juniors on the World Cup circuit, while Henry (Bainbridge, Georgia) will compete alongside him in Lima after finishing second.

Two-time Olympian Michael McPhail (U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit/Darlington, Wisconsin) and his USAMU teammate Sarah Beard (Danville, Indiana) both excelled as well in winning the Three-Position Rifle contests battling through high winds Saturday. McPhail was the only competitor to shoot in the 1170s (1173/1172) on both days of Qualification while Beard was the only competitor to shoot in the 1160s (1166/1168). 2012 Pistol Olympian Sandra Uptagrafft (Phenix City, Alabama) earned Pan Am and World Cup Team status as well in Sport Pistol in a tight battle with Lagan.

Katie Zaun (Buffalo, New York) and Katelyn Abeln (Douglasville, Georgia) join the Leveretts as well as Hunter Battig (Colorado Springs, Colorado) as the rise of junior talent continues to infiltrate the top ranks of America’s Shooting Team. Zaun finished third behind Beard and Thrasher in Three-Position Rifle, and as a 15-year-old, becomes one of the youngest World Cup members of all time in rifle. Abeln will team with the Leveretts and Battig on the World Cup pistol team after finishing third in Sport Pistol. Last year, she finished runner-up at the Junior World Championships in this event.

Spots at the ISSF World Cups and Pan American Games are of particular importance as these are some of the remaining opportunities to earn quotas for the Olympic Games. An Olympic quota is essentially a country’s ticket to participate in a specific event in the 2020 Olympic Games. Earning an Olympic quota in competition ensures the country a spot in that particular event, not necessarily the athlete. Rifle and Pistol athletes will then earn slots on the U.S. Olympic Team via a trials system which can be viewed here: www.usashooting.org/library/Policies_and_Procedures/doc01203920190111105314.pdf.

For Paralympic athletes, this match is part of the selection process for the World Shooting Para Sport (WSPS) World Cup in Osijek, Croatia and the Parapan American Games, also in Lima this summer. This year’s Parapan American Games will be the first time in which shooting will be contested. Earning top podium spots in the rifle events were Kevin Nguyen (USAMU/Westminster, California), Stetson Bardfield (Colorado Springs, Colorado), John Joss (USAMU/Corsicana, Texas). In Pistol, 2016 Paralympians Marco De La Rosa (San Antonio, Texas) and Mike Tagliapietra (Fond du Lac, Wisconsin) earned wins in their respective events.

CMMG Adds .40 S&W

Tuesday, March 26th, 2019

Boonville, MO – CMMG tames the snappy .40 S&W by pairing it with its (patent pending) Radial Delayed Blowback (RDB) operating system in its BANSHEE™ and RESOLUTE™ models.

CMMG’s innovative Radial Delayed Blowback operating system incorporates a mechanical delay that forces the bolt to rotate and unlock, momentarily slowing the bolt carrier group, which allows chamber pressures to fall before cycling. This mechanical delay allows for reliable function with a wide variety of ammunition and removes the need for a heavy bolt, buffer and spring required in direct blowback systems. Radial Delayed Blowback significantly cuts felt recoil, directs more gas down the barrel resulting in cleaner function and real advantages when using a suppressor.

Unlike most Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC’s), CMMG rifles and pistols that feed from Glock magazines include the shooter-friendly Last Round Bolt Hold Open feature (patent pending).

A BANSHEE or RESOLUTE in .40 S&W is the perfect complement to millions of Glock .40 caliber handguns currently in the hands of American consumers and law enforcement.

The .40 S&W will be offered in both CMMG’s BANSHEE and RESOLUTE line of firearms, with barrel lengths of 5 inches, 8 inches and 16 inches. Starting at 4 pounds 12 ounces and an overall length of just 19.2 inches. One 22-round factory Glock .40 S&W magazine included where allowed.

    Gerber Center-Drive Plus

    Saturday, March 23rd, 2019

Gerber has released an updated model of their Center-Drive multitool, the Center-Drive Plus. The original Center-Drive was designed to allow one-handed access to the three major components of the tool: the pliers, bit driver, and blade. With the Center-Drive Plus, Gerber added spring-loaded scissors, and changed the original full edge blade to a partially-serrated blade. The components on the plus are now also tumble-finished, and the blade comes with a leather sheath, instead of the nylon sheath of the previous model.

DPX GEAR ADDS THE KABUL COUNTRY CLUB LINE OF APPAREL TO THE WEBSITE

    Monday, March 18th, 2019

San Diego, CA – March, 18, 2019 – DPx Gear has released the classic Kabul Country ClubTM logo apparel. This is second in a series of classic designs to be featured that represent the hostile environments that inspire and test DPx Gear products.

Like the Mogadishu Yacht Club line before it, t-shirts will be available in multiple sizes, styles and colors ranging from XS to XXL and start at $33.50. Sleeveless, long sleeved and short sleeved variations in addition to hooded sweatshirts are made in the USA by American Apparel and sweat shop free.

The Kabul Country Club logo and concept was designed by Robert Young Pelton for DPx Gear. It is inspired by the actual Intercontinental Hotel and the Kabul Golf Club in Qargha, Afghanistan. Pelton has stayed there multiple times and has been a visitor since 1996.

The logo pays homage to the classic 60’s tourist destination, once advertised as “the Switzerland of Asia” and commemorates the Afghans that have been in Kabul through decades of war.

“Kabul still has remnants of the grand old days and I created a logo to honor and remember those tough-as-nails Afghans,” says Pelton of the logo.

The golf course and hotel have seen many regime changes since its opening in the late sixties. Mohammad Afzel “Abdul”, who was arrested twice for the crime of golf, has been the manager and golf pro at the course since the late 70’s and embodies the “tough-as-nails” Afghan persona.

The hotel made news recently when it was attacked in 2018. Pelton’s favorite room on the third floor of the hotel was blown up.

They may be disheveled versions of their once glorious selves, but the mystique of the hotel and golf course live on through the logo.

More items such as mugs, hats, and a restocking of patches and shot glasses will be added to the product line up as it is expanded.

    Doom: Annihilation Trailer

    Wednesday, March 13th, 2019

There was a film based on the popular video game franchise ‘Doom’ that was released in 2005; it starred Karl Urban and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, featured monsters which were the result of genetic experimentation rather than demons from Hell, and aside from a pretty cool first person sequence, was largely forgettable, and didn’t really do its namesake justice.

Somehow, this more recent attempt to bring Doom to the big small screen looks even worse – as you can probably guess by the quality of the footage, the effects, and the acting, it’s a straight-to-home-release production. Plus, there’s not even a Doomguy / Doom Slayer, just a bunch of generic space marines; y’know, the guys that got slaughtered by the forces of Hell before Doomguy tore through them with superhuman ability, and enough firepower to start a small war.

Tellingly, the official DOOM twitter account even released a tweet stating: “We’re not involved with the movie.” Whether you take the statement as a passive-aggressive dig against the quality of the trailer, or a pure statement of fact with no double meaning, it’s clear after the excellent DOOM 2016 and what’s been shown of DOOM: Eternal, that no one on those teams had any input in this film’s production.

No definite release date has been announced, but expect Doom: Annihilation to hit various video on demand services later this year.

DPX GEAR INTRODUCES THE LIGHTER, SMALLER, STRONGER AMERICAN-MADE EDC – THE DPX HEST/F URBAN G10 IN OD GREEN

    Sunday, March 3rd, 2019

San Diego, CA – March, 1, 2019 – DPx Gear has released its new classic folder; the smaller, stronger, American made HEST/F Urban G10 in OD Green. The Urban reduces size and weight, compared to its larger, Italian-made bigger brother HEST/F 2.0, while increasing strength. That’s not something you hear much these days.

Designed by Robert Young Pelton for DPx Gear and made by Southern Grind in Atlanta, GA, the DPx HEST/F Urban is the last pocket knife you’ll need for every day carry. Small, light and feature-packed, it’s just as at home in your jeans as it is in the tackle box. An heirloom quality piece of US craftsmanship that can be passed down generations with the support of a no-questions-asked lifetime warranty that DPx Gear customers deserve.

Designer Robert Young Pelton is not just known for surviving wars, he is also an award winning designer, having earned recognition for his knife designs and has secured over a dozen patents licensed to DPx Gear.

When Pelton was challenged with creating a smaller EDC version of the legendary hard use DPx HEST/F 2.0, the results were impressive. The HEST 2.0 features a thicker (.19″ vs the Urban’s .16″ thickness), longer (the 2.0 is 3.15” long vs the Urban’s 2.9”) blade but shares the same frame thickness with its smaller brother, the Urban. Weight has been reduced by an ounce and half (4.9 oz vs 3.55 oz) yet the usable blade edge is only about a quarter on an inch less.

The Urban G10 materials make familiar and liberal use of DPx hallmarks like Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V alpha-beta titanium alloy for the lock bar frame side.

To lighten the G10 version we use the rough grip phenolic epoxy resin to make a lighter, smaller but actually tougher when thicknesses to length is tested.

In keeping with only using American-made materials, the blade steel is CPM 154. Crucible Particle Metallurgy makes steels specifically for hard use knives. CPM 154 is a powdered steel compacted into shape, creating a perfect mixture made up of extremely fine particles. This gives the final DPx steel a flawless finish with better corrosion resistance and edge retention.

The finish of a DPx Gear knife is flawless. The Urban G10 in Olive Drab features a rough finish G10 frame side and a stone washed raw Ti side. The hardware is 440 Stainless and the high sabre grind blade is our new Ghost Grey matte finish PVD.

A made in America, hard use EDC folding knife that looks good, feels greats and lasts a lifetime.

    Product Specifications

    Hellboy – Red Band Trailer

    Saturday, March 2nd, 2019

After a pretty unimpressive first trailer that set a pretty weird tone for the film, Lionsgate released a new red band trailer for the upcoming Hellboy reboot that makes it look quite more appealing; although I didn’t really dig the orchestral cover of ‘Smoke on the Water’. Anyway, David Harbour (of Stranger Things fame) plays the titular Hellboy, and his efforts under the employ of the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense to stop The Blood Queen (Milla Jovovich) from destroying the world.

Hellboy premiers in theaters April 12, 2019.
