The latest film by renown director Takeshi Kitano, Outrage is about deceit and violence in the world of the Yakuza. Interestingly enough, it’ll be available roughly a month on-demand (October 28th) before it appears in theaters (December 2nd). My guess is this film isn’t going to appear in very many mainstream cinemas after its on-demand appearance. Even so, it looks pretty kick-ass.

Friday, September 16th, 2011Youtube channel ‘Survive2Day‘ shows the perfect assault vest for those finding themselves in an urban survival setting. Lack of snacks has always been a serious issue and I’m glad someone came up with an efficient solution that allows you keep all your preservative-laden favorites within arms reach during the heat of battle.
Porter Robinson – Spitfire
Thursday, September 15th, 2011This music video for ‘Spitfire’ by Porter Robinson features two opposing teams slinging paintballs at each other, slow motion sequences throughout, a referee with a dog named “la p00ch”, and visual effects that make it look like a multiplayer video game. Most impressively, it was shot in just one take.
The Raid – Red Band Trailer (NSFW)
Tuesday, September 13th, 2011This fantastic trailer is for an Indonesian movie titled ‘The Raid’. Directed by Gareth Huw Evans, the movie’s plot is (from the video description): “…the story of a SWAT team that becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster, armed with two highly violent martial arts killers and an army of machete-swinging, machine gun-toting dealers and thugs.”
Hell yes!
Sony pictures acquired the U.S. rights to the film, so we should be seeing it in theaters fairly soon. However, in an attempt to somewhat Americanize the film, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda has been hired to create a brand new musical score just for the U.S. release. YYMV on how good this decision is, folks; I’d personally like to hear the original soundtrack first.
Thanks to a reader for the tip.
MW3 Multiplayer Reveal
Saturday, September 3rd, 2011Call of Duty XP started yesterday, and the event began with this reveal trailer for MW3. While I’ve been disillusioned by CoD games because of the multiplayer reveal trailers before (Black Ops before, you know, it actually came out looked amazing), this one impressed me quite a bit. A small* amount of graphical polish coupled with a somewhat reworked perks and killstreak system are what interested me the most, although seeing the MultiCam clad Delta members and explosive action was a nice bonus. Also, the XM25.
Trailer not doing it for you? Footage from the MW3 beta currently running at XP is showing up on YouTube, if you’re interested in a more ‘personal’ look at how the gameplay is.
*It’s still running on a modified version of the outdated id Tech 3 engine, IW 5.0. Really, the lighting and audio are the most substantial boosts the engine received this year.
Now This Is How You Prove Your Product Works
Friday, September 2nd, 2011In this video, an employee of Texas Armoring Corporation (TAC) gets to practice shooting at as his boss, CEO Trent Kimball, with an AK-47, all to prove the integrity of their bullet-resistant glass. The multiple camera angles give it a nice, action movie-esque flair.
Cook An Egg In An Orange Peel
Monday, August 29th, 2011This is a fun, neat little trick to try if you’re out camping and brought eggs, oranges and tin foil. You start by burning a fire down to the coals. Meanwhile, split an orange in half and hollow out the contents. You then place an egg inside each orange half, wrap them in the foil and place them on the coals. 3-5 minutes later, you have an egg cooked to perfection, with a hint of orange flavor to boot.
The above video shows a slightly different method involving placing the orange directly on the coals, but the principle’s the same. I just prefer foil since it keeps everything more secure.

Aliens: Colonial Marines
Saturday, August 27th, 2011Finally, an ‘Aliens’ game that seems to do the property justice: a 4-man squad of Space Marines must survive an overwhelming force of Xenomorphs armed only with their wits and some iconic weaponry (including my personal favorite, the M41A1 Pulse Rifle). This game can’t come out soon enough.
Aliens: Colonial Marines drops Spring, 2012.
Hot Shots Calendar 2012 Behind the Scenes – NSFW
Friday, August 26th, 2011Enjoy this footage of a behind the scenes look for the Hot Shots Calendar 2012. Oh, and as the title points out, the video is basically NSFW: some salty language, firearms and a lot of half-nakedness is contained within.
The Hot Shots Calendar will be available September 1st, 2011. You can pre-order yours here. 50% of the proceeds is donated to UK based Help for Heroes.

Call Of Duty XP – Zipline Safety
Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011I love how Activision feels it appropriate to release a video on ziplines at the Call of Duty XP event, considering the majority won’t be attending in the first place. At least they got Jen Taylor (best known for her role as Cortana in the Halo franchise) to voice the safety procedures. The history of ziplines in the CoD series is a nice touch.
Call of Duty XP is an event taking place September 2nd & 3rd in Los Angeles, California. Besides the MW3 multiplayer reveal, there will also be a $1 Million CoD tournament and other live events.
CoD: Black Ops – Zombie Labs Trailer
Friday, August 19th, 2011Equal parts funny and violent, this trailer for the upcoming ‘Rezurection’ DLC Pack for CoD: Black Ops shows the work the researchers at the zombie labs undertake to understand and better combat the moon zombie menace. ‘Rezurection’ includes the 4 original World At War zombies maps in addition to ‘Moon’, as well as the zombies soundtrack and a premium zombies dashboard theme. As a nice bonus, if you already have the original maps through the hardened/prestige edition of Black Ops, you get this content pack for free. Score!
‘Rezurection’ drops August 28th on Xbox Live for 1200 Microsoft points ($15)
Modern Warfare 3 Spec Ops Survival Mode Trailer
Wednesday, August 10th, 2011Gears of War calls it Horde, Halo calls it Firefight, and Treyarch developed CoD games gave it a unique twist by introducing zombies, but whatever you call it ‘Survival Mode’ is a staple of the modern gaming experience, especially in the FPS market. Now, an Infinity Ward developed CoD title is getting the treatment, and they’ve put own unique features to try and make it their own. For starters, you earn cash for kills that can be put towards new weapons, ammunition, perks and airdrops/assists. AI-controlled Delta Squad, anyone? Along with this, later rounds introduce suicide soldiers and dogs, who explode the C4 strapped to their person if they get too close to the player or are killed, and the Juggernauts, characters featured in MW2’s Spec-Ops mode who wore EOD suits, toted LMGs and took a lot of punishment before they finally died.
Besides showing off the features of the new mode, several new weapons and attachments were also revealed, including the red dot sight used in CoD4 along with the MW2 variant (maybe they’ll be selectable based on preference, like the rds/holo/reflex in games past?), another long range scope attachment (or that could just be the Remington RSASS; went by a bit too fast to tell) and several new weapons: if you pause around 0:38-0:40 you’ll notice the USAS 10 (a South Korean made automatic shotgun with a detachable box magazine, featured in Bad Company 2), M16A4 and M60E4 are included in the game. In addition, the Remington ACR is chambered in this game for 6.8 mm Remington SPC instead of 5.56, at least that’s what the in-game name ‘ACR 6.8’ seems to imply.
MW3 drops November 8th, 2011
“In Time”
Tuesday, August 9th, 2011When I saw Captain America, there was a trailer for “Contagion”, a movie that seemingly popped out of nowhere yet has several big names attached to it. When I saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I saw this trailer for “In Time”, a movie that seemingly popped out of nowhere yet has several big names attached to it. Besides the fact that I didn’t hear of either movie until the trailer, like “Contagion” having an “Andromeda Strain” feel, this flick has a “Logan’s Run” feel.
So, to review: both “Contagion” and “In Time” popped out of nowhere, have surprisingly high profile actors and seemingly take ‘inspiration’ from older works. Is this an upcoming trend, or just a couple of isolated cases? I’ll go with the former; nothing’s original in Hollywood.
Blast From The Past – ‘Oh No You Didn’t’
Sunday, August 7th, 2011Possibly the greatest video game commercial song ever, ‘Oh No You Didn’t’ from Mercenaries 2: World In Flames is hilarious in the way that despite its subject matter being about a betrayed mercenary seeking revenge, it’s sung by a quartet backed by piano. It shouldn’t fit, and yet it does, and the result is pure genius.
Advanced Outfitters at BLADE Show
Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011This is video of Kevin Martin of Advanced Outfitters demonstrating the company’s showings at BLADE Show 2011, including the new Khyber belts, adjustable weapons sling and badge sling.
Tumbling Around Town Like Batman
Monday, August 1st, 2011Check out this video of the three tumblers/Batmobiles from the upcoming ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, the last film in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. Each tumbler is powered by a Chevy V8 engine and is painted in a desert camo variant. It’s a shame they’ll most likely be lost to high-impact stunt damage, since they look so damn cool. The owner of one of these would be the envy of Batfans the world over.

Ares Armor Company Promo Video
Sunday, July 31st, 2011This excellent promo vid by Ares Armor Company showcases their products not by blatantly stating their intended uses, but by getting out in the field and using them. Ares’s full range of slings, packs, rigs and the EFFIN-A compensator are featured in full force, but not by name, forcing curious viewers to actually search for the items, which potentially drums up more interest. A smart move on Ares’s part that sets a new standard for promo vids.
Mission First Tactical Outbreak: Omega 4 Trailer
Friday, July 29th, 2011Check out this trailer for the upcoming two-part series of Mission First Tactical attending the DPMS Outbreak: Omega 4 Zombie Shoot 2011. From the looks of the trailer, if you like the following: guns, bravado, a bit of humor and a fun shoot with plenty of zombie targets, then this is a video series worth checking out when its released.

Battlefield 3: Weapons Customization
Thursday, July 28th, 2011The Battlefield series is finally getting on the customizable weapons bandwagon so prevalent in modern FPS’s (I’d say CoD 4 – onward has a huge part in this) with Battlefield 3. While it’s true that Bad Company 2 did introduce weapons optics and improved handling specializations, the selection was extremely limited when compared to similar games. Now, DICE has introduced a full range of attachments for your weaponry including optics, grips, and barrels, much like in the Medal of Honor reboot’s multiplayer, which they also designed. With this addition, Battlefield 3 is making even greater strides towards FPS of the Year, although as always there is some stiff competition to contend with.
Orange Peel Flame Thrower? Tell me more.
Monday, July 25th, 2011See, oranges like to attract animals to eat the fruit so they’ll “pass along” the seeds so further generations of oranges can grow. Basically, the circle of life at work. However, not everything that eats oranges can and/or will pass along these seeds, namely mold and insects; they just like the sugar. So, in order to protect itself, the orange has a system of pouches in the peel that hold an oil. When a pouch is ruptured by, say, a hungry insect, the oil spurts forth and kills the intruder. It just so happens this oil is also flammable, so if you squeeze some on an open flame… well, I’m sure that’s self-explanatory.
tl/dr: Orange peel oil is flammable. Just watch the video above.
Just remember that Tactical Fanboy in no way, shape or form is condoning playing/experimenting with fire and/or potentially dangerous natural oils. It’s simply for entertainment purposes only.

Leaked Battlefield 3 Alpha Footage
Thursday, July 21st, 2011We’ve still got a bit of time before Battlefield 3 is released, and the open beta isn’t accessible until September. With actual gameplay footage being so sparse, how does one sate their curiosity for this highly anticipated sequel? Why, with leaked alpha footage of course! Check it out before it’s taken down. It looks pretty damn amazing.
World’s Only Turbine Powered Batmobile
Sunday, July 17th, 2011Built by Casey Putsch of Putsch Racing, this Batmobile is powered by a military spec 385 hp Boeing turboshaft engine from a naval drone helicopter driving the rear wheels through a semi automatic gearbox. It also features a custom tube frame/monocoque chassis with fully independent suspension, disc brakes, and a sequential shifter. It runs on kerosene, diesel, or jet fuel and has a power to weight ration comparable to a Dodge Viper. Thankfully, it’s very close in design to the 1989 Michael Keaton Batmobile, which is great, because that movie was actually watchable.
Master Blaster (Slow Mo Paintball SHOTGUN)
Saturday, July 16th, 2011This video by Youtuber ‘CorridorDigital‘ shows the almighty power of a potato cannon that shoots paintballs, in slow-motion, courtesy of a high-speed camera. That disarm move near the end was pretty slick, too.
