The Avengers: Samurai Version

Sunday, April 1st, 2012

Just kidding. It’s not a samurai version, but you have to admit it sounds pretty kewl in Japanese. Plus we get a better look at some of the alien invasion, a couple new shots of Hawkeye…gotta like it…and dig that helicarrier.

Please, don’t let them screw this up. Please.

The (Totally) Phantom Menace

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

This video by YouTuber FirstManOnTheSpoon demonstrates flaws in the lightsaber fight choreography in The Phantom Menace in the form of a humorous Jedi training video.

Meg Turney – Princess Leia Photo Shoot

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Check out this video of Meg Turney cosplaying as Pricness Leia for a shoot at Gentle Giant Studios. FYI, there’s a bit of crass language and suggestive dialogue, so this one’s probably better off not seen while at work.

Archetype

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

This looks really, really cool. Sure, there are elements of some other movies in it (notably Robocop) but I’m not really sure that should matter. I can’t think of any movie in the last decade that didn’t have at least some elements of other movies in it. Frankly it’s easier for haters to hate than come up with a good product on their own. This is obviously a project of love and I’m really looking forward to seeing the finished product.

If you want to follow the film’s progress and see what Aaron Sims has to say (the project has now been picked up by a major studio), check ’em out on Facebook.

Nick Fury Limited Edition Action Figure

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

For the record, I’m more of a fan of the original Earth-616, Howling Commandos Fury than I am of the Ultimates Fury that Samuel Jackson’s character in the upcoming ‘The Avengers’ is clearly based on. Having said that, this is one pretty bad ass action figure. Aside from a highly-detailed 1/6th scale (approximately 30 cm tall) sculpt, the figure also features over 30 points of articulation. Accessories include a labeled stand, multiple interchangeable hands, an RPG, pistol, and suitcase with light-up tesseract (Cosmic Cube for the purists) and patterns.

You can see more images on Hot Toys’ Facebook page.

The Deadliest Game – A Dr. Grordbort Short Film

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Dr Grordbort Presents: The Deadliest Game from Media Design School on Vimeo.

If you’re not familiar with WETA’s line of Dr. Grordbort’s Infallible Aether Oscillators, then they’re a line of super-detailed collectable Steampunk model weapons that each are equal to or greater than the price of a similarly-sized real steel gun.

This short film by Media Design School, based in Auckland, New Zealand, explores the Dr. Grordbort universe as Lord Broadforce hunts the local wildlife on an alien planet. The movie is a mix of CGI and live action and took 11 students over 22 weeks to complete. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

Nazis from the moon…Iron Sky

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

This may be the greatest nazi-fighting flick since Indian Jones told us he hated them…or, maybe not. It’s gotta be the best one since Surf Nazis Must Die though, right? One can only hope the Blue Brothers are given the chance to defend the planet along with our military.

Abraham Lincoln vs. Nosferatu

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Honest Abe’s mom was killed by some kind of supernatural creature, driving him to pursue a career of slaughtering vampires and their slave-owning allies. Who knew? It’s based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel.

Here’s a book review from a couple years back.

Battlefield 3: Aftershock

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

EA has released Battlefield 3: Aftershock, a free game app on the iTunes store inspired by the upcoming movie ‘Act of Valor’. It’s a multiplayer game with four weapons (five, with an unlock) and “leading edge graphics”. Not bad for something free.

Thanks to Rob for the tip!

Aliens: Colonial Marines Contact Trailer

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

Check out the latest trailer for the upcoming ‘Aliens: Colonial Marines’. It’s Kick-ass Space Marines fighting terrifying Xenomorphs, all gloriously pre-rendered. Sure, there’s no actual new gameplay footage, but it already looks a lot better than ‘Alien 3’ could ever hope to be. It’s a shame this game got pushed back to Fall.

Real Steel Blu-ray reviewed over on UTR

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Under the Radar ran a review by the Mad Duo today, covering the recent extended Blu-ray version of Real Steel. Not sure why they’re doing more there and on other sites than their own, but if you haven’t seen that movie (or even if you have) you might get a laugh out of the write-up. Or not.

Tell you one thing they’re right about for sure. Having some of those robots cammied up and equipped for a mission with USSOCOM would be a bad ass sequel.

Read the review.

Star Wars Uncut: Director’s Cut

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

First, take the beloved classic ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’. Next, cut it up into 15 second increments. Then, have a bunch of fans choose the clip of their choice, and refilm it in any style of their choosing. Finally, splice the fan-clips together into a complete movie and show it on the internet. That’s the idea behind Star Wars Uncut: Director’s Cut.

You can watch it on YouTube.

Star Wars Themed Target Range Posters

Saturday, January 14th, 2012

20120114-140049.jpg

Sneaky Studios has designed a line of Star Wars themed target range posters. Characters include the Rancor, Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper taking Princess Leia as a hostage, and of course the man himself, Boba Fett. Each poster is a high-quality digital print on 220gsm premium paper stock, is signed by the artist, and will run you $35 a piece, so you might not want to plug holes in the originals. Luckily, this is exactly what local print shops (or office supply stores) exist for, right?

WTF? – Dubstep In The Red Tails TV Spot

Saturday, January 7th, 2012

If you’ve been watching TV recently, there’s a decent chance you’ve seen this commercial about the upcoming film ‘Red Tails’:

Pardon me if I’m wrong, but is that a dubstep “song” (the term “song” is used loosely here) playing over images of WWII fighter planes? I don’t know about you, but I had to rewind my cable (thank you, DVR!) when I first saw this just to make sure I wasn’t crazy. Don’t get me wrong, from the other trailers I’ve seen this current iteration of ‘Red Tails’ looks decent with lots of pretty special effects, but dubstep seems, I dunno, kinda out of place in a WWII movie. Well, I guess that’s what you get when the beast that spawned Episodes 1 through 3 handles the Tuskegee Airmen.

*sigh* George 'Freaking' Lucas

Red Tails releases in theaters January 20th, 2012.

Chewbacca Hoodie

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

It’s Winter and (mostly) everybody loves Star Wars, so why wouldn’t there be a hoodie based on Chewbacca, Han Solo’s loyal Wookie partner? It’s made from 100% faux Wookie fur (polyester), with an embroidered ammunition sash. Sadly, the hood doesn’t feature Chewie’s likeness, but there’s a hat that fulfills that role quite nicely.

GI Joe Retaliation: The Mad Duo Has Concerns

Friday, December 30th, 2011

The Mad Duo has great hope for, and grave concerns about, the upcoming GI Joe Retaliation movie. The original article is over on Under the Radar, a further explanation of just how keenly they’re watching this is on Breach-Bang-Clear.

The Rock as "Roadblock" in the upcoming GI Joe sequel.

Tactical Fanboy: "Roadblock" in the upcoming GI Joe sequel.

We hope for their sake the Rock and Bruce Willis get this right. Hate to see what would happen if the Duo lost their temper.

TacHacker – Articulated Street Sign Armor

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

Looking to perfect that Mad Max or Fallout cosplay? Then you might want to follow the example of Ivan Owen and build a set of street sign armor. Although the exact details are scarce, the piece was constructed from forming street signs using an anvil and ball peen hammer and affixing said signs to a belt harness. Mr. Owen also has an Etsy store where it’s entirely possible you can commission said armor, provided your smithing skills aren’t up to snuff.

How to Survive a Horror Movie

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

A quick run-down should you ever find yourself trapped in a horror movie and would prefer to live to tell the tale.

1. Don’t have sex.
– Seriously, Abstinence is key

2. Don’t go out with people you’ve just met that day.
– I don’t care what he says, he is cuckoo bananas, and he wants you dead

3. Don’t go to camp. Especially one where someone was murdered.
– There are six words you should YouTube, should you get the chance, “Kevin Bacon in Friday the 13th”

4. Find a good hiding place and… STAY THERE.
– If the killer can’t see you or hear you WHY WOULD YOU MOVE?
— Possibly the easiest rule to follow and, ironically enough, the most broken

5. Always wear sensible shoes, ‘cause you never know when you’ll need to run through the woods.
– Someone will always be barefoot
– Or in heels
– Or just plain clumsy
– And will sprain their ankles
– And die

6. If the town looks deserted, it’s probably because everyone is dead.
– Don’t walk around looking for people

7. Don’t be a hero.
– Unless your name is Harry Fucking Potter, you will die
– Hell, maybe even then

8. If you hear something creepy in the distance, like a dog’s yelp cut off mid-bark, don’t investigate.
– The killer is there
– Also your dog is dead

9. Always check the backseat before entering your vehicle.
– The last thing you need is to be killed while trying to merge on the expressway

10. If your car breaks down in front of a dilapidated gas station, don’t ask a sketchy-looking townie for help.
– Some part of your body will wind up in his pick-up truck

11. Don’t go into the basement.
– They are creepy enough without you dying in one

12. If you’re trying to buy a house and the real estate agent won’t answer any direct questions about either the history of the home or the previous tenants, DO NOT MOVE IN.
– At some point, someone in the house heard voices and cracked

13. Turn off the television (and run away) if a girl crawls out of it.
– It is obviously your wisest choice

14. If the walls of your house bleed, do not attempt an exorcism.
– Move very very far away
– Because there’s blood on your walls
– Your
– Walls
– Are
– Bleeding
– Run

15. Don’t act like a detective.
– Some crazy Japanese kid who meows like a cat will attack you in a closet

16. Google the location where you’ll be vacationing.
– If more than five reports for “Missing Persons” pops up, you know not to go there
– Issue
– Solved

17. Don’t get drunk or come under the influence of any mind-altering drug.
– Running away from a killer is that much harder when you’re tipsy and giggling

18. If you see someone in a mask, don’t assume it’s one of your friends playing a trick on you to scare you.
– It is the killer
– He will kill you

19. Don’t take a shower.
ONLY APPLIES IF:
– It’s past midnight at the campground you and your friends are staying at or the lock to the door doesn’t work and you hear creepy piano music

20. If the call is coming from inside the house, get out.
– Clearly the killer is not outside, now is he

The Dark Knight Rises Trailer

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

A morning started with Batman is a morning well spent, and correct me if I’m wrong, but was that a Bat-hovercraft?!? This is gonna be one helluva way to end the Noland trilogy! Too bad we’ve got over half a year left to wait :(.

The Dark Knight Rises drops July 20th, 2012.

Suggested by a Reader: Olivia Munn does Princess Leia

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

By “does” Princess Leia, we don’t mean does her. We just mean she dresses up as royalty from Alderaan.

For RED2ALPHA73 and those who agree with him.

(Note: in fairness, one of our Facebook fans asked about gratuitous hot gamer guys. So we ask…is there such a thing?)

Bless her Alderaan royalty impersonating heart.

MS ONE Maximum Security

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

MS ONE Maximum Security (previously titled as ‘Lock-Out’) is an upcoming sci-fi thriller, staring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace. It’s written and produced by Luc Besson, and takes place in the year 2079 where a man wrongly convicted of conspiracy against the United States must rescue the President’s daughter from a prison controlled by escaped convicts… in space! Sounds like a winner to me!

MS ONE drops April 13th, 2012.

GUNDOG

GUNDOG by 39 Degrees North is a tribute to the good old days when action movie terrorists were Eastern European and grizzled detectives played by their own rules (and saved Christmas).

ODST: HELLJUMPER (Feet First Into Hell)

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Yep. Under the Radar mentioned the new fan filmand from the look of it, it’s going to be pretty sweet (particularly for a fan-made film). The movie (hopeful pilot for an entire fan series) basically follows a rookie Orbital Drop

ODST: Helljumper fan movie

A scene from the Halo ODST Helljumper fan film, coming out in January.

Shock Trooper from before the Human-Covenant War to the Fall of Reach. If you want to help the film, you can donate money to the cause and earn rank depending on the amount: Grunt, Marine, ODST, Brute Chieftain, etc. Money donated will be used to help fund the film.

Check out the “movie poster”. It’s awesome.

This Is My Lightsaber

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

Designed by 6amChris and available on redbubble, this t-shirt print puts a Star Wars twist on the traditional Rifleman’s Creed while also featuring Darth Vader’s lightsaber and the Empire’s symbol. There’s also a Luke Skywalker/Rebel Alliance version, if you’re into that sort of thing.
