Crosman Presents Williamn McLean Award To Airgun Historian Tom Gaylord
Friday, January 29th, 2016BLOOMFIELD, New York (January 26, 2016) Crosman Corporation, the world leader in the design and manufacture of air rifles and pistols, presented the William McLean Award to Tom Gaylord in recognition of his contributions to the sport of airgunning.
“Tom has written about airguns for over twenty years and his selfless interest in the advancement of the sport includes contributions to product development for several companies including Crosman, and the promotion of airguns through his articles,” said Jennifer Lambert, VP of Marketing for Crosman.
The presentation was made in the Crosman booth at the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Tradeshow (S.H.O.T.) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The award’s namesake, William McLean, is the inventor of the first Crosman air rifle which was produced and sold in 1923. McLean was regarded as an intelligent inventor, particularly in the area of firearms and airguns, and his contributions to the shooting sports endure today.
Gaylord was presented with a bronzed Crosman 760 Pumpmaster, a model that has sold over 17 million since it was introduced in 1966. “It’s fitting that we can recognize the 50th year of the 760 with this acknowledgemnt of Tom’s special place in the history of airguns,” added Lambert.
The Slingshot Channel- The Coke Bottle Gatling
Thursday, January 28th, 2016It’s been awhile since I’ve last featured a Joerg Sprave creation on this site, and this one is a doozy. Taking advantage of a loophole in German gun laws, Joerg created a Gatling bolt (more like a revolver, really) launcher using Coke bottles and Charlie Allen’s Big Blast Caps.
Kalashnikov Buyers Guide On Indiegogo
Wednesday, January 27th, 2016Noted Kalashnikov enthusiast Gun Websites is currently running an Indiegogo campaign for something a bit more abstract than your usual crowdfunding project, but no less worth paying attention to: a Kalashnikov Buyers Guide. This guide will be a web-based “ulitmate resource for all things Kalashnikov.” It will function as a singluar place to compile an archive of information on Kalashnikov rifles and their variants, as well as encourage more Kalashnikov collectors, builders, and shooters. You can check out the campaign at the link below:
SHOT Show 2016 – PTS – Mega Arms MKM .308
Tuesday, January 26th, 2016My friends over at the PTS booth had a lot of great stuff to show me, some of it already on the market, some of it new for 2016, but there was one product that caught my attention above all the others: the PTS Mega Arms MKM .308. Built around the Mega Arms MKM platform, the MKM .308 is based on a real steel .308/AR-10 rifle, and it shows. It’s not only a hefty beast of a gas blowback rifle, but the bolt itself is a monster; you can feel it slam forward with quite a bit of force for an airsoft rifle. Additionally, the MKM .308 will be capable of semi-auto and 3-round burst fire.
The magazine that comes with the MKM .308, the EPM LR, is a proprietary mag built to PTS’ own specifications just for this gun, and quite frankly, it’s heavy enough to cause extreme bodily harm if used as a blunt instrument.
The MKM .308 will be available later this year from PTS.

SHOT Show 2016 – Gerber Gear
Monday, January 25th, 2016The Strongarm is one of Gerber’s most popular fixed blade knives. It consists of a full tang 420 HC steel blade, with a rubberized diamond-texture grip. The Strongarm comes complete with a multi-mount, MOLLE-compatible sheath.
Available in Black and Tan handle finishes, and with or without blade serration.
Gerber’s Ghoststrike is a fixed blade knife with a drop point, fine edge blade, made of 420 HC ceramic coated steel. The handle is skeletonized, with a rugged texture for a sure grip. The Ghoststrike can be purchased with an ankle wrap holster, which allows for the Ghoststrike to be utilized as a concealed and/or backup blade.
A bit different than the other offerings I checked out at the booth, the Freescape Camp Kitchen Kit is nonetheless worth taking a look at. The Camp Kitchen Kit comes with the Camp Kitchen and Paring Knives, a built-in ceramic sharpener, locking drawer, and drip channel around the board. The case itself is bright green, which matches the handle accents of the included knives, and makes it easy to identify.
The 39 Series is a collection of blades that hearkens back to Gerber’s start as a blade maker. The 39 Series features a 420 HC steel blade, and a cero-coated stainless steel handle. The blades will be available in sizes Small and Large, in Black, Gold, and Silver finishes. These are an “indie-dealer” exclusive, so you won’t be seeing these at any big-box retailer.
Be on the lookout for the 39 Series Knives later this year.
SHOT Show 2016 – 5.11 Tactical – Tactical Yoga Pants
Sunday, January 24th, 2016To 5.11’s credit, these aren’t called “Tactical Yoga Pants”, but that’s basically how they were introduced to me by the booth rep, so the title stays. These are actually called the Women’s Raven Range Capri. Described as the “perfect blend of traditional yoga pant and range apparel”, the Raven Range Capris are made of stretch Ponte di Roma fabric, and are antimicrobial and moisture-wicking. The Raven Range Capris come complete with belt loops and abrasion panels for a belt and holster, and also feature secure utility pockets.
The Capris come in Black and Tundra.

SHOT Show 2016 – X Products – .308 MUL
Friday, January 22nd, 2016The .308 MUL or Multi Use Launcher is a larger bore version of last year’s Can Cannon, designed to use .308 blanks rather than the .223 of the Can Canon. The .308 MUL is a complete upper assembly, and is SR-25 platform compatible. The reps at the booth even told me that it’s not recommended to launch soda cans from it, since the increased power of the .308 blank actually causes the soda can walls to rupture when launched; sounds cool to me! I would have loved to show you a picture of the .308 MUL, and the new grappling hook accessory, however the only sample models bought to SHOT this year were on display at the ‘New Products’ section, and unfortunately they don’t allow for photography there, even for press.
You’ll have to make due with this photo of the .223 Can Cannon, so it’s like this, just bigger and more powerful.
SHOT Show 2016 – SureFire
Thursday, January 21st, 2016Designed specifically as a companion piece for the recently released SureFire Phone Case, the FirePak interfaces with the case, functioning as a back-up phone battery, although it is also capable of outputting 15 to 1500 lumens of white light from dual LEDs. Users can either use a Bluetooth-enabled app to control the light, or use controls on the side of the FirePak.
SHOT Show 2016 – Sun Devil Manufacturing
Wednesday, January 20th, 2016This is the “DOUBLE DEVIL” Twin AR (and yes, the caps are necessary). You may be wondering: “Why a monolithic billet twin side-by-side upper receiver?” Well, in all honestly, the reason is pretty much because they could.
As previously mentioned, the DOUBLE DEVIL consists of dual monolithic billet heavy wall twin upper receivers. The receivers feature 16″ chromoly barrels, with a 1:9 twist, free-floated modular handguards, and flat top Picatinny rails. The DOUBLE DEVIL is compatible with any standard AR-pattern lower receiver, of which two are needed, and fire completely independently of each other. It also comes with a billet bi-pod mount, and is pivot / traverse capable.
SHOT Show 2016 – DDR
Wednesday, January 20th, 2016Made from 6AL4V aircraft grade titanium and hand finished by celebrated knife maker Darrel Ralph, the Punisher Tool is an EDC multitool with a cool appearance. First, the Punisher Tool features a combed surface inspired by the British-Made Mason Comb, ideal for beard grooming. It also sports a Philips hex drive, multiple nut drivers, and a dual bottle openers. Jimping added to the perimeter of the tool offers a secure grip, and in a pinch, the Punisher Tool can also be used for self-defense.
New Suicide Squad Trailer
Wednesday, January 20th, 2016SHOT Show coverage will continue as expected, but since the new Suicide Squad trailer had to come out this week, I’m throwing it up before the show starts today. Honestly, this trailer makes the movie looks like solid fun.
SHOT Show 2016 – Maglula
Tuesday, January 19th, 2016Maglula is showing off their UpLULA universal pistol magazine loaders in four new colorways: DarkGreen, OrangeBrown, Lemon, and Purple. The sales materials state these colors are “beautiful”, “unique”, and perhaps the largest benefit, “…will stand out in a range bag.”
Additionally, Maglula has also announced that they’re planning on releasing the BabyUpLULA, which is their .22 LR – .380 ACP loader, in Purple, as well as the AR15/M4 StripLULA for RUAG gray stripper clips.
SHOT Show 2016 – American Tactical GSG MP-40 9mm Pistol
Tuesday, January 19th, 2016American Tactical imports the German Sport Guns brand here in the States, and one of the cooler-looking models they released was a .22 LR variant of the MP-40 SMG. Stopping by their booth, I noticed that they plan to release a pistol-variant chambered for the original 9mm Luger, and thankfully they had a model on display.
No word on when it’ll be available, so stay tuned for more info as it becomes available.
SHOT Show 2016 – Hydrapak
Tuesday, January 19th, 2016Hydrapak had a couple of new products to show off at their booth.
The first is the Seeker hydration bladder. The Seeker is a collapsible bladder constructed of the same durable TPU as other Hydrapak products, and it fills from a screw-cap lid. The non-rigid design of the Seeker allows it to fit snugly within a variety of carry options, such as a pack. The Seeker functions well as either as additional storage for water, or as a filter bag.
Also featured on the Seeker is an integrated strap system, which allows the Seeker to be carried or tied down externally. It will be available in three sizes: 1L, 2L, and 3L.
Hydrapak will also be releasing what they call the Arctic Fusion. It’s a bite valve constructed of insulated TPU, which keeps the valve from freezing for up to 1 hr in temperatures reaching -20 F. The Arctic Fusion will be released this Fall.
Tactical Fanboy Has Arrived At SHOT Show 2016
Tuesday, January 19th, 2016SHOT Show – Industry Day At The Range – SilencerCo Maxim 9
Tuesday, January 19th, 2016SilencerCo brought along the latest iteration of the Maxim 9 to their booth at Industry Day at the Range. The original Maxim 9 was built upon the Smith & Wesson M&P, more-or-less due to “[SilencerCo] having a lot of them sitting around”. This new Maxim 9 is, by comparison, a SilencerCo design, albeit in a prototype form. This is partially apparent from the 3D printed lower frame, and because of it being a prototype, none of the attendees were allowed to test fire it; a live fire demonstration by a SilencerCo employee was made, however, and we’ll upload footage from that for the readership soon.
Getting back to the pistol itself, it sports a number of impressive changes and upgrades from the initial prototype. First, it now utilizes Glock 17 magazines, which is great for obvious reasons. Adding on to the Glock compatibility, the irons are designed to be replaceable with any Glock-compatible sights. Additionally, it sports a 3.5″ barrel, a quick-action/safe-action-style trigger, the slide catch/stop/release is ambidextrous, and SilencerCo told us they plan to make the mag release ambi as well.
Adding to the changes, the Maxim 9 now features removable baffles much like the Salvo 12 and Osprey Micro, which allows users to shorten the overall profile of the Maxim 9. SilencerCo also told us they are making further refinements to the design, including the development of a method to allow for the mounting of a light and/or laser.
We heard the Maxim 9 may be available as soon as quarter 4 this year, so be on the lookout for more info as it becomes available.
10 Cloverfield Lane Trailer
Sunday, January 17th, 2016As you might guess by the name, 10 Cloverfield Lane is the second movie in the Cloverfield franchise. With few details available, and the trailer not revealing much besides an underground bunker and a pissed-off, controlling, and possibly cabin feverish John Goodman (and two others), the question is:
Is this a direct sequel to Cloverfield, complete with giant monster(s), or a spiritual sequel with a similar premise?
We’ll have to wait until March 11th to find out.
Binary Titanium Key Carabiner By iomaa On Kickstarter
Saturday, January 16th, 2016The Binary Titanium Key Carabiner is the latest Kickstarter campaign by iomaa, a company with a history of multiple successful campaigns. The Binary Titanium Key Carabiner comes in three sizes, Small, medium, and large, and features a body made of grade 5 titanium, with gates made of tempered stainless steel, although iomaa may replace them with tempered titanium down the line. One of the gates is a safety gate, which keeps keys and other attached items from slipping off the carabiner, and the carabiner can also function as a bottle opener.

Air Venturi Announces Ataman Airguns Now Available In U.S.
Thursday, January 14th, 2016High Quality, Extremely Accurate Russian-Built PCP Air Rifles
On Display at 2016 SHOT SHOW
Cleveland, Ohio (January 14, 2016) – Air Venturi, an exclusive airgun, airsoft and ammunition importer of leading international airgun brands, today announced that Ataman M2R air rifles are now available in the U.S. Built in Russia, the Ataman M2R series precharged pneumatic (PCP) air rifles will be distributed in North America by Air Venturi. The rifles feature five different stock configurations, and are offered in multiple calibers ranging from .177 to .35.
“Ataman air rifles are known for their high quality, exceptional reliability and cutting-edge technologies,” states Air Venturi Director of Business Development, Paul Milkovich. “By combining the most up-to-date production technology, superior materials, and the legendary expertise of Russian gunsmiths, Ataman has created world-class PCP production guns that we are proud to offer throughout the U.S. Visit booth #2007 at SHOT Show for a hands-on look at these phenomenal air rifles,” he added.
According to Milkovich, “The Ataman M2R series of PCP rifles are excellent options for hunting, sport shooting, and shooting for leisure.” Each model in the M2R series features sidelever action, a free-floating Lothar Walther barrel, two-stage adjustable trigger, self-indexing magazine, internally shrouded barrel, and an ergonomic, ambidextrous stock. “Depending on the configuration you may choose from a beautifully crafted walnut stock or a synthetic, soft-touch black stock,” he said. “The lightweight Ataman M2R air rifles are constructed to the highest performance standards, and you’ll notice that in every aspect of craftsmanship.”
“Whether you choose the .35 caliber version for dispatching hogs, the .22 caliber for pest control, or the .177 for target shooting or plinking, rest-assured you’re getting a meticulously crafted gun worthy of handing down to the next generation,” says Milkovich.
The M2R Carbine is offered in walnut only, and is available in .177, .22, .25, and .35 calibers. The ergonomic, ambidextrous stock features a checkered forearm and grip, robust buttpad, and raised cheekpiece. The ability to fill to 300 bar and regulated pressure control ensures shooting accuracy and the maximum number of shots. The pressure gauge and charging port are conveniently located in the front plug. The Picatinny mounting rail is milled directly to the receiver.
Available with a walnut or black synthetic soft-touch stock, the M2R Tactical Carbine resembles sniper-type rifles. This gun is available in .22, .25, and .35 calibers. The comfortable, pistol grip stock has a complex body shape with a grip that fits right-and left- handed shooters. The forestock is extended and the stock has an adjustable cheekpiece and buttplate that enable shooting from different firing positions.
The MR2 Bullpup is offered in two types. Type 1 features the synthetic soft-touch stock while Type 2 has an attractive walnut stock. Each version is offered in .22, .25 and .35 calibers and the smaller sized stock is great for people who travel or hunt where a standard sized gun would not be ideal. The M2R Bullpup has a Picatinny mounting rail, and the barrel receiver, clamps, and trigger are integrated into the main rail.
The MR2 Ultracompact Carbine features smaller dimensions and weight compared to other PCP rifles while maintaining the same on-target accuracy. The stock is adjustable for different lengths, and it folds to the side shortening the rifle length, making it convenient for carry and storage. Because of the telescopic stock, the gun can be used for shooters of any size. The pistol grip offers easy shooting for right- and left-handed shooters.
Please visit us in booth #2007 at the 2016 SHOT Show for a first-hand look at the new Air Venturi Ataman air rifles and all of the other new Air Venturi products.
