Hollywood Haunted Sports – Zombie Killhouse Runthrough

Monday, September 29th, 2014

This is a runthrough of the Zombie Killhouse at the Haunted Hollywood Sports Media Night at Hollywood Sports Park in Bellflower, California. One of two killhouses being offered for Haunted Hollywood Sports, the Zombie Killhouse has a squad of attendees armed with airsoft G36s run through a pre-set path as they shoot at zombies who attack from the shadows and hide in corners. Each attendee also wears two flags, which the zombies will attempt to snatch. Losing both flags means you failed the mission, and have joined the ranks of the undead.

Note that this run was taken roughly a week before they officially launch, and isn’t necessarily representative of the final configuration of the killhouse.

Special thanks to Gregory Wong AKA spartan117gw for attending the event with us and doing the runthrough seen in the video. You can check out his YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/user/spartan117gw

Stay tuned for more coverage of the Haunted Hollywood Sports Media Night and more.

Two Major Announcements Put The AIR Back In AMERICAN AIRSOFT: TIPPMANN Sports And Wolverine Airsoft go “High Pressure” And Engineer A New Future

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

By: Alan “Thumpy” Covey – Thumpy’s 3D House of Airsoft

American gun enthusiasts hear the word “airsoft” and think toy-like plastic or very fragile pot-metal guns, built mainly in Asia; guns not able to hold up to the rigors of serious training, handling, use or abuse. But, that has been changing…and is about to get two new boosts from a pair of US companies that couldn’t be any different from each other. But, both are ‘bullish’ that they have innovative ways to change the American marketplace.

A quick primer: Airsoft is primarily one caliber – 6mm plastic BB’s, pushed out of smoothbore guns by compressed air. Right now, the foremost systems are called Air Electric Guns or AEG’s, which use gears, a piston, cylinder and spring, powered by a DC electric motor and battery to propel BB’s downrange. A competing system (GBB – Gas Blow Back guns) use high pressure gas to do the same thing. Both models can simulate recoil “kick” and some even field-strip like their one-to-one “real-steel” counterparts…the current fascination with airsoft as a war-games tool and even as a safer-alternative training gun for firearms enthusiasts.

But TIPPMANN Sports, a leader and innovator in paintball guns for decades, and new startup WOLVERINE AIRSOFT are about to bring the manufacture of two gas systems back to airsoft’s roots in high-pressure air…and, build their products in the USA.

Tippmann_M4

TIPPMANN announced at last week’s Paintball Extravaganza event in Virgnia their entry into airsoft, the M-4 carbine…a clone of most AR-style guns with the guts of their highly reliable and rugged paintball markers reworked to fit inside a 1:1 scale upper and lower that will accept most real M-4 grips, stocks, rails/hand guards and accessories. Powered by 12-gram co2 capsules inside the 80-round magazines, the M4 will also alternately use regulated air tanks and current AEG airlift magazines.

Most important to their US market position is TIPPMANN’s established parts, service and distribution networks, and the brand reputation for rugged reliability that might find a true market as training arms for military or Law Enforcement agencies, many of which already use paintball as force-on-force training guns, or for pepperball devices in detention facilities. Expect a summertime release for a product that’s already gaining near-viral attention in paintball AND airsoft circles.

WolverineAir_Thumpy

Meanwhile, from Tennessee comes WOLVERINE AIRSOFT with a more basic and elegant engineering idea. Why replace all those existing AEG airsoft guns, when you can drop-in a replacement cylinder with ONE moving part! Called the SMP, for “Single Moving Part,” this system will use High Pressure Air in backpack tanks, regulated with an electronic trigger assembly. That takes the finicky and often-troublesome guts & gears out of the 1970’s Japanese technology of today’s AEG, yet keep their upgraded and more-modern outer shells, which have been getting better and better with age and materials-technology improvements.

A third American company, Delaware-based PolarStar Airsoft has had a more-complete HPA system on the market for several years now, called the Fusion Engine. But, judging from the viral social media reactions, there is probably room in the USA market for all three American entries. A trio that will “bear much watching” as 2014’s spring and summer release dates approach.

Lancer Tactical – GPNVG-18 Dummy Review

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

SONY DSC

Lancer Airsoft’s GPNVG-18 Dummy is a non-functional replica of the L-3 Warrior Systems GPNVG-18, perhaps best known for its use by Seal Team Six in the flim Zero Dark Thirty. This particular model comes standard with clear and blue replacement lenses, dummy ANVIS cable, and dummy remote battery pack.

As far as replicas go, Lancer Tactical really hit it out of the park with their GPNVG-18 Dummy. The detail of this product is high: the Dummy is the proper size, features accurate accessories, and proper markings; There are identification stickers that come with the dummy that can be used to add further detail. The unit is made from sturdy plastic, and the non-functioning power button is made from a spongy foam-like material. Dials on either side of the eye pieces can be used to adjust their spacing.

The Dummy NVG is fairly lightweight, including the faux battery pack, so it’s not likely to cause any additional strain if mounted to a helmet. The replaceable lenses are a nice addition that adds a bit of customization to the unit. Please note that actually looking through the lenses is slightly disorienting, the lenses are convex (images appear upside down and reversed), so it’s best used as an accessory or for non-serious play.

If you happen to be looking for a replica GPNVG-18 to add that extra bit of detail to your kit, for role-playing purposes, or just because they’re cool looking, then you can’t go wrong with Lancer Tactical’s GPNVG-18 Dummy.

One last thing to note: For the purposes of the photography, I mounted the dummy GPNVG-18 on a Wilcox L4 G24 NVG mount. Although the dummy NVG did fit, it wasn’t completely secure to the mount and had the potential to slip off. Lancer Tactical offers their own L4 G24 NVG mount built for airsoft use that should better accommodate the dummy NVG.

The Lancer Tactical GPNVG-18 Dummy shown above is in Tan, although a Black model is also available.

Lancer Tactical – MOLLE Chest Rig Review

Friday, October 11th, 2013

SONY DSC

Lancer Tactical’s MOLLE Chest Rig is constructed from 600 Denier Polyester material. It features front, back, and sides PALS webbing for the attachment of pouches and other MOLLE compatible equipment. Adjustable shoulder straps, also featuring PALS webbing, have side adjusters and quick release buckles. The Adjustable waist strap has Velcro flaps and quick release buckles. The vest comes with four integrated AR-15 magazine pouches with bungie retention straps, as well as two integrated multi-purpose pouches with bungie retention straps. A hydration compartment with Velcro panel on the flap fits up to a 2.5L bladder, and a mesh compartment interior pocket allows for additional storage. The MOLLE Chest Rig is adjustable from medium to large size.

The Lancer Tactical MOLLE Chest Rig is a customizable piece of Airsoft kit can fill a wide variety of purposes thanks to the volume of PALS webbing present on the rig. The rig is comfortable and easily adjustable, and the Velcro straps included to retain excess webbing is a nice addition. The integrated AR-15 pouches each fit one (1) STANAG model magazine with the two multi-purpose pouches good for a light, mutlitool, or, in a pinch, a pistol magazine. One feature not mentioned on the product detail is a carrying handle that is retained to the rig thanks to a strip of hook and loop; this is a nice feature that helps keep the carrying handle from getting snagged or otherwise tampered with. Overall, Lancer Tactical’s MOLLE Chest Rig is a functional rig that, thanks to is modularity, can fulfill virtually any purpose the user wants it to.

The Lancer Tactical MOLLE Chest Rig shown above is in MARPAT, although it’s also available in ACU, Black, OD Green, and Tan.

PDT Intros Force 1 Helmet To Airsoft Market

Thursday, October 3rd, 2013

Force 1 helmet

ALAMO, Calif. – October 3, 2013 – Practical Defense Training Technologies (PDT) today announced the availability of its Force 1 Helmet to the Airsoft market. Previously, PDT products have been available exclusively to the military and law enforcement communities for non-lethal training ammunition (NLTA) engagements. With its broad market release, civilian Airsoft enthusiasts can now access military-grade helmets that provide the ultimate fit, form and function.

The Force 1 helmet incorporates a full face mask to provide superior impact protection. PDT engineered proper ventilation characteristics into every aspect of the helmet and utilizes proprietary anti-fogging dual lens technology to create true no-fog head armor. Fogging is largely a ventilation issue that results from helmet designs, coupled with the fact that most lower-end helmets use a single lens polycarbonate. Much like dual pane windows, PDT’s anti-fogging dual lens helps mitigate the two temperature extremes (hotter inside, colder outside) that cause fogging. This ensures maximum visibility and peripheral vision for a true-to-life kinetic experience during Airsoft engagements.

“Head armor affects performance, as it directly affects the application of senses most closely associated with combative skill development – sight, sound and feel,” said Gordon Potter, a 15-year U.S. Army Special Forces veteran and president of PDT Technologies. “Bulky and restrictive designs can obstruct visibility and peripheral vision. PDT’s sleek helmet design supports the user’s sense of feel to weapon system feature manipulation and employment. Our goal is to keep people safe by preventing, minimizing or eliminating personal injury. We are proud to make this level of personal protective equipment available to the civilian market, while continuing to support military and law enforcement applications of Airsoft for training purposes.”

“There are a lot of people using Airsoft out there right now,” said Ken Murray, Director of Training, Armiger Police Training Institute and Co-Founder of SIMUNITION®. “Airsoft can embed in your skin, knock out your teeth, and certainly destroy your eyes. People say one of the advantages of Airsoft is that you don’t need all this personal protective equipment. They’re absolutely wrong. In my opinion, if you’re going to be conducting Airsoft training, you should use the same level of protective gear as that used for conventional marketing cartridges. I’m a big fan of PDT’s gear. From the helmet to the neck protector and protective hood, this is just the top gear on the planet. PDT is certainly the best helmet that I’ve seen in the market. The first and foremost feature is that this thing just does not fog. I can always see clearly through this helmet. It’s also very comfortable and non-claustrophobic.”

Conducting Airsoft training or recreation without the use of proper protective equipment can result in serious injuries, with the eyes, ears, face and neck being most prone to projectile strikes. PDT’s helmet is made from resilient molded mask parts that offer superior impact protection. A durable mesh cover in the lower mask prevents projectiles from passing through and promotes optimal airflow. A rubber goggle frame with soft gaskets fits comfortably against the face. Backside padded head protection is made from durable rip stop nylon material, and perforated ear cover protection prevents loss of audibility. When used in conjunction with PDT’s neck armor and padded hood, the Force 1 helmet ensures complete impact protection with no skin exposure. The Force 1 Helmet is also constructed of closed-cell, low density polymer materials that do not absorb moisture, making it easier to wipe and clean for multi-person use.

Regularly priced at $98.95, the Force 1 helmet is currently on sale for the special price of $79.95. PDT also offers a full line of personal protective equipment for Airsoft users, including padded hoods, hand armor, and chest, neck and groin protectors. Items can be purchased individually, or users can take advantage of the PDT Go Bag, which includes a full set of PPE and a marking knife for close quarters combat training, in PDT’s signature duffel bag. For more information or to purchase, please call (925) 708-1212 or visit www.pdt-tech.com.
