Benchmade Unveils New 2014 Mid-year Releases

Friday, June 6th, 2014

June 6th, 2014 (Oregon City, Oregon) – Benchmade Knife Company, manufacturer of premium sports cutlery, unveils an array of new products at the 2014 Blade Show in Atlanta, GA.

In addition to eight new models, including one new model from HK Knives, Benchmade will also unveil its new proprietary mechanism: the AXIS Dual Action. “As the year winds down for the 15th anniversary of the AXIS lock, we look to take this proven mechanism to its next evolution,” says Jason Boyd, Director Of Product for Benchmade Knife Company. The AXIS Dual Action mechanism allows the user to operate the knife either manually, and/or automatically through a single control while providing the strength and reliability of the original AXIS lock.

Hardcore Hardware Australia – LFK01

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

photo 1

HHA’s LFK01 is designed for situations where a full-sized fix blade knife would be unmanageable and a folding knife a poor compromise. The LFK01 is forged from D2 Tool Steel with a robust Black or Tan Teflon finish. The LFK01 features shock absorbing paracord wrap available in a choice of colors, and is coated in a proprietary acrylic solution; the solution will not impede the practical use of the cord if removed for use in a survival situation.

The sheath is Cordura with a Kydex insert. It features press stud blade retention, and is designed to attach primarily to PALS webbing.

5.11 Tactical Unveils Limited-Edition, Custom-Designed Strider Knife

Friday, February 14th, 2014

Companies Collaborate to Release 511 U.S. Manufactured Strider/5.11 Strider Military Folder Knife

image003

MODESTO, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2014) — 5.11 Tactical®, the global innovator of tactical gear, today announced that the company has partnered with leading knife manufacturer, Strider™ Knives, to release the Strider/5.11 Strider Military Folder (SMF), a custom-designed tactical knife. Made in the U.S., the knife, which is manufactured with CTS-B75P steel for ultimate corrosion and wear resistance, brings together two companies with a common ethos—to make high-quality, functional products based on feedback from those who work in the field. As a limited-edition product, there will only be 511 knives made. Each piece, available at www.511tactical.com later this month, will include a custom nylon case, a “Raider” patch inspired by the WWII Marine Raiders’ patch and a certificate of authenticity signed by Tom Davin, 5.11 Tactical Chief Executive Officer, and Strider Knives Co-owner, Duane Dwyer.

“From the product’s design, to its durability and U.S. manufacturing, the Strider/5.11 SMF knife reflects the core values, mission and ethos of both 5.11 Tactical and Strider Knives,” said Davin. “We’ve long admired the work of Duane Dwyer and the whole Strider Knives team. Collaborating with the Strider experts to create a knife that fits the needs of our combined customer base has been a unique, yet organic, partnership resulting in a beautiful, limited-edition product.”

image001

With a sleek design, rooted in simplicity, the Strider/5.11 SMF knife is engineered with minimum components while staying true to the key components Strider Knives have become known for, including a titanium slab frame lock, a glass epoxy laminate handle and a rough peel surface for positive grip. The blade design is a drop point, hand flat ground with a simple break on the spine and no false edge.

“The Strider/5.11 SMF knife is truly a work of craftsmanship,” said Dwyer. “By engineering with utilitarian requirements in mind, we’ve created a knife that is both a workhorse and a battlefield companion—regardless of where your battle takes place. The subtle yet impactful features are demonstrative of the commitment to quality both companies were founded on and remain committed to.”

The Strider/5.11 SMF knife boasts one-of-a-kind features including a custom-made pivot pin, custom fasteners and a Titanium handle with G10 scales. For durability and long-lasting performance, this is the first Strider knife to incorporate CTS-B75P steel—an alloy from Carpenter Technologies that that is highly resistant to corrosion and wear—allowing users to more easily maintain a sharp edge for an extended period of time.

The Strider/5.11 SMF knife can be purchased on 511tactical.com later this month and will retail for $599.99.

Gerber Gear Round Up – GDC Zip Blade

Sunday, September 29th, 2013

Gerber gear offers a selection of knives, flashlights, belts, and other survival tools for the outdoorsman. We purchased a small variety of Gerber survival tools, and put them to the test with our own weekend warriors, our three Boy Scouts. The rules were simple. They could select any of the products that wanted but had to write about their impressions.

Each week, we’ll feature a new Gerber product review written by one of the Scouts.

GDC Zip Blade

The Gerber Gear GDC (Gerber Daily Carry) Zip Blade features a 7CR17 steel blade with a length of .68″. A frame lock mechanism locks the blade into place when deployed. The body of the Zip Blade is made of 3CR13 steel. The zipper attachment features a clip for quick removal.

I like the GDC Zip Blade because it feels solid. The blade is small but useful, and comes out easily enough. The frame lock isn’t too tough to push down when I needed to store the blade. I also liked the clip because I could remove the zip quickly if I needed the blade. I think it works best as a backup if you already have a bigger knife with you.

Camillus Les Stroud “Survivorman” Machete

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

This is the Les Stroud Camillus SK Jungle Machete. Designed specifically for survival purposes, the SK Jungle features an 11 3/4 inch long, 2/10 inch thick 440-stainless steel blade which is treated with Carbonitride Titanium, a proprietary process that bonds formulated titanium and chromium nitride to the steel, giving it a surface up to three times harder than the base steel in addition to a more corrosive resistant finish and friction free cutting surface. The blade has a slight inward sweep for better capturing whatever needs to be cut, and the flat tip is sharpened for use with digging and smaller cutting chores.

The 5 1/2 inch handle is constructed from polypropylene with high traction TRP rubber inserts for added grip traction, even in cold weather, and features a lanyard hole. The pommel is checkered hard steel for non-slip hammering which makes it safer from slipping off a stuck object. The SK Jungle comes with a ballistic nylon sheath with built-in fire starter and a nylon mesh pocket.

Victor Lee VL-03B Fantasy Folding Knife

Sunday, September 2nd, 2012

This impressive bladed implement the Victor Lee VL-03B Fantasy Folding Knife. It features three 3″ curved black stainless steel blades that can fold into the knife body. The handle is anodized aluminum and has a belt clip. It kind of reminds me of the Glaive, minus two blades, of course; based on some reviews I’ve read I also wouldn’t suggest throwing it.

You can get it off Amazon.

Interceptor

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

This knife by Tom Anderson Cutlery can best be described as brass knuckles times insanity. Machined from stainless steel with a handle made from Spanish micarta, it’s pretty damn intimating, by virtue of its 4 sharp edges. Also, it kind of looks like the Batman logo, but only when put on its mantle… while you squint… in a dark room… maybe.
