Virginia Holds Its First SASP State Match

Thursday, August 2nd, 2018

(Cedarburg, WI) – The Commonwealth of Virginia held its first SASP State Match on June 26th. The match was hosted by the NRA Headquarters Range and attended by the two Virginia teams as well as a team from North Carolina. In addition to the match, attendees were able to sample the fantastic cuisine at the NRA Headquarters Cafeteria, receive guided tours of the National Firearms Museum and even shop at the NRA Gift Shop with a special SASP discount. A highlight for many in attendance was the opportunity to meet the newly elected NRA President Oliver North who stopped by to wish the 23 competitors well and welcome all to the NRA.

In rimfire pistol, the Gaston Young Guns from Gaston County, NC took first place eking out the win by just 0.61 seconds but nonetheless an impressive accomplishment for a team that primarily shoots rifle. Team LoCo Motion of Purcellville took second place with the Winchester Izaak Walton League Blue Ridge Bullets coming in 3rd. At the individual level, Adam Jardines of Team LoCo Motion took first place with Dalton Bridges and Gavin Rainey of Gaston Young Guns taking 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Senior Division. Ethan Jardines of Team LoCo Motion took 1st place in the Intermediate Division followed by Alex Kolosowsky of Gaston Young Guns in 2nd and Maccoy Gilkison of WIWL Blue Ridge Bullets taking 3rd.

Due to time constraints, mini matches were held for both rifle optics and iron sights. The teams would like to thank Kelvin Walton the SASP Director of Development for his assistance with the match.

CMMG Releases The Mk57 GUARD Chambered In FN 5.7×28

    Tuesday, July 24th, 2018

Boonville, MO (7-24-18) – CMMG has announced the release of a new line of AR pistols and short-barreled rifles (SBR’s) chambered in FN 5.7x28mm. Available in 5-inch barreled BANSHEE and 8-inch barreled PSB configurations, each model in the new Mk57 GUARD line is fed from FN 5.7 pistol magazines and uses CMMG’s patent-pending Radial Delayed Blowback operating system.

“The 5.7 is an intriguing round that is perhaps best known for its relatively lightweight bullet design and impressive velocities. From an engineering perspective, we were excited to pair the 5.7 with our Radial Delayed Blowback system. I think it’s safe to say that this combination makes the Mk57 one of the lightest recoiling pistol caliber carbines on the market,” said Chris Reinkemeyer, CEO of CMMG.

At the heart of the Mk57 is CMMG’s Radial Delayed Blowback operating system designed to minimize felt recoil. It features rotating bolt that requires the recoil impulse of a round being fired in order to unlock. As each round is fired, a portion of the rearward force is exhausted in unlocking this bolt prior to driving the carrier rearward and cycling the action. With less rearward force to compensate for, CMMG is able to use a lighter carrier and buffer than a standard blowback design would allow, thus reducing the overall reciprocating mass.

CMMG will also offer a separate lightweight buffer for use with subsonic ammunition. To overcome the reduced backpressure with subsonic loads, the lightweight buffer can help ensure that the bolt locks back after firing the last round.

The FN 5.7×28 was designed and introduced by FN Herstal with the intention of replacing the 9mm for military and law enforcement usage. While the caliber has been adopted by several agencies throughout the world, its real success came with its entry into the civilian market in the early 2000’s.

    Mk57 BANSHEE

The BANSHEE in 5.7×28 has a 5-inch barrel and comes as either an SBR or an AR pistol. The SBR version is sold with Magpul Moe vertical foregrip and features CMMG’s new RipStock. The Ripstock allows users to quickly deploy the stock to an extended position without having to actuate a release lever. It also has five set-screw positions that allow users to customize the length of extension to the best fit. The AR pistol versions come with a Gear Head Works Tailhook Mod2 brace that allows users to easily extend/collapse the brace with the press of a button.

Distinguishing features of the BANSHEE also include the addition of CMMG’s new ambidextrous charging handle and RML4 M-LOK hand guard. A CMMG Premier Cerakote finish (11 different colors to choose from) is included standard with each BANSHEE. It ships with one 20-round ProMag magazine and is compatible with FN Five-SeveN pistol magazines.

Gerber Reimagines Backcountry Meals With New Multi-Tools: Compleat & Devour

    Monday, July 23rd, 2018

PORTLAND, OREGON (July 23rd 2018) – GERBER, an industry-leading manufacturer of knives, multi-tools, and gear, announced today the introduction of two new multi-tools to cleverly streamline dining in the backcountry: the ComplEAT and the Devour. The first look at both products comes at Outdoor Retailer 2018 in Denver, Colorado, ahead of the products’ launch in early 2019. Both products are available in 4 distinct colors that aim to appeal aesthetically to the outdoor enthusiast: Silver, Flat Sage, Onyx, and Burnt Bronze. The ComplEAT Cook Eat Clean tool retails for $24.99 and the Devour Multi-Fork retails for $14.99.

“The goal was to create a multi-tool that addressed the entire eating process while in the backcountry: preparing food, eating, and cleaning up after,” says Eric Moore, Product Manager at Gerber. “Gerber presents two complimentary solutions to multi-task around the campfire or on the trail. The Devour is a minimalist tool at less than 1 ounce, with a removable solid state tool that mounts to the back and kickstands the tool to keep it off dirty surfaces and out of your cooking pot. The ComplEAT focuses on the organization of dedicated tools, working independently as well as configuring to a tong to bring the convenience of a home kitchen to the wild. Don’t go hungry with two solutions to keep your adventures nourished and Unstoppable.”

On the trail, the most important meal of the day is the meal you are about to eat. The ComplEAT tool has the bases covered with a long tine fork, deep basin spoon, dual-edge spatula, and 4 function multi-tool that nest for transport as well as snap together to convert into functional tongs. The multi-tool includes a bottle opener, veggie peeler, serrated package opener, and a can opener. Cook, eat, clean and get back out there.

USA SHOOTING PRESENTED BY 4OUTDOORS: RAISING AWARENESS & CRUCIAL FUNDING FOR AMERICA’S SHOOTING TEAM

    Thursday, July 19th, 2018

Brett Favre Hosts New Multi-Part Series on GetZone.com

July 19, 2018 (COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado) — As a lifelong outdoorsman wishing to share his reverence of the outdoors, NFL Hall of Fame Quarterback Brett Favre, began an organization called 4Outdoors to provide meaningful experiences in the outdoors to people in need. Given his background and interest in the shooting sports, USA Shooting recently selected Favre as one of their honorary Team Captains. In a new, multi-part series airing on GetZone.com titled “USA Shooting Presented by 4Outdoors,” show host Favre talks with Olympic and Paralympic athletes about their struggles, victories, and the importance of raising awareness and funds for USA Shooting’s athletes.

In the premier episode of “USA Shooting Presented by 4Outdoors,” Favre shoots clays and talks with two-time Olympic bronze medalist Corey Cogdell-Unrein where he learns, “A lot of people don’t know shooting is one of the most expensive Olympic Sports. People think that we’re funded by the government…and that’s just not the case,” Cogdell says. “I’ve watched so many of my teammates struggle, and scratch, and fight to pay just their training expenses, and go in debt financially to pursue this sport. I’ve thought, how good could we be if we had the funding that we needed? It’s such a great sport, and we just need your help,” she said.

Throughout the “USA Shooting Presented by 4Outdoors” series, several episodes will be hosted by Favre as he interacts with Olympic and Paralympic USA Shooting athletes including Cogdell-Unrein as well as 2016 pistol Paralympian Marco De La Rosa and 2016 Paralympic rifle bronze medalist McKenna Dahl.

Together, they conduct shooting drills, and share tips and tactics on the range. Each episode features a sponsor’s products including pistols, shotguns, rifles, etc., and encourages viewers to consider donating to USA Shooting to help American shooting athletes win gold. McMillan Firearms stepped up as one of the first major sponsors for this series, and will be featured in an upcoming episode of the “USA Shooting Presented by 4Outdoors.”

According to Favre, “Raising awareness for our Olympic and Paralympic athletes and their individual journeys is an important component of our mission at 4Outdoors. In addition to helping at-risk youth, Veterans, people with disabilities, victims of natural disasters, and people who are simply dealing with difficult issues life has thrown at them, “we’re glad to help our fans appreciate what organizations like USA Shooting provide to the shooting sports community and to the athletes that represent us in competition,” he said.

“Can you remember that first time nature took your breath away?” asks Favre. “Can you remember the first fish you ever caught, the first trail you ever hiked, or the first time your own family dog came running across the backyard when you called? That rush is unforgettable, and we feel whole when we get out there. At 4Outdoors, nothing is more important than ensuring that everyone, regardless of status, ability, or circumstance is part of the great, wild, welcoming world we call home,” stated Favre.

“The 4Outdoors program is all about encouraging outdoor-related sports and activities, and fostering our next generation,” Favre said. “We believe getting people outside helps them grow, which is why we have committed ourselves to fostering connections in, with, and around the great outdoors.”

Episodes of “USA Shooting Presented by 4Outdoors” are now streaming on GetZone.com. The new show is distributed exclusively by Media Lodge. Media Lodge is the Outdoor Industry’s largest content production and digital distribution platform including owned websites, exclusive websites, social media, and third-party syndication.

“We have athletes in real need and we appreciate Brett, 4Outdoors, GetZone.com and Media Lodge for recognizing what the stature of USA Shooting should be within the outdoor and shooting industry and then creating content that can help showcase our need for support,” said Keith Enlow, CEO of USA Shooting. “By capturing the story and drive of our athletes, this series projects exactly what we’re all about and that’s finding any way possible to get these athletes on the podium and represent the shooting industry.”

“We are honored to connect our 40 million Media Lodge users with an amazing organization like USA Shooting,” states Jeff Siegel, Media Lodge CEO. “This video series features compelling stories of remarkable athletes. We’re proud to shine a light on their organization and hope to raise awareness and funding for their sport.”

Canada’s Premium Tactical Manufacturer Announces European Expansion

    Monday, July 9th, 2018

The Requirements Group (TRG) European headquarters will be in the Netherlands

TORONTO, July 9, 2018 (Newswire.com) – With tremendous success in North America, the leading developer and manufacturer of premium tactical and outdoors products, The Requirements Group (TRG) is expanding to the European market to provide premium Canadian grade tactical and air-soft garments and accessories, launching its European headquarters officially in the Netherlands as of July 9, 2018.

Recently the tactical and outdoors equipment market has been flooded with low grade, unreliable products as a result of many manufacturers turning to factories in China with no experience in tactical products. This move has neglected the end user’s comfort and safety. The Requirements Group (TRG) sees this as an opportunity to turn around the market and deliver to the tactical professionals and outdoors consumers premium products which have been designed and tested by active and veteran tactical police, military and SAR (search & rescue) operators. All the requirements of the products are based on real-life experience of tactical and special forces operators.

With its two flagship brands; Shadow Elite and Shadow Strategic, TRG will be able to serve both the agency and civilian markets. Having its own factory allows TRG to source and manufacture products the way they are meant to be. Having the ability to regulate strict quality control is what the company prides itself on. Reducing production costs by not outsourcing to third-party factories passes on the savings of premium products to the customer.

“We are not your typical garment manufacturer. Tactical police and military work is in our bloodstream. Unlike other manufacturers who start off in regular outerwear and then see an opportunity in the tactical and air-soft world, we stick to what has been second nature to us for the past 80 plus years in combined experience,” says Glen Turpin, retired police officer, tactical expert and co-founder of The Requirements Group. “We are fortunate enough to have on our team, veteran and active frontline police and military operators who design and test the kit our end users wear and trust. As well as expert search & rescue (SAR) technicians testing the load bearing and rigging components of our kit. It would not be fair to the end user to have the products manufactured in a factory that one day produces load bearing tactical vests, and the next day dolls or nail clippers. This is why we invested so much into building our own factory where our dedicated expert workers and engineers focus on tactical kit every single day.”

Another benefit TRG has with its own factory, is the ability to service large agencies and tactical teams by customizing uniforms and equipment with specific technical and camouflage pattern requirements.

About the Requirements Group: The Requirements Group (TRG) is a law enforcement veteran owned and operated company. Based in Canada, it has expanded its distribution to hundreds of locations across North America. Its two leading brands are Shadow Elite and Shadow Strategic.

Shadow Elite products are engineered and built with the safety, comfort and demands of front line personnel in mind.

Shadow Strategic products are intended as an entry line. Quality products with lighter weight materials and less complex technical components.

With these two product lines, TRG can serve both the professional agency clients, as well as outdoor and airsoft enthusiasts.

The Forged Upper Conversion Kit: Cobalt Kinetics’ 50 State Solution for the AR-15 Platform

    Sunday, July 8th, 2018

Washington Utah, July 5, 2018: Cobalt Kinetics Forged Upper Conversion Kit

In March 2018 Cobalt debuted the model 27 rifle. This offering departed from the company’s long-established BAMF platform in that the lower half was designed to have the feel of a more traditional rifle , and ended up being “compliant” (aka featureless) in restrictive markets like California. The lower receiver of the 27 does indeed mate up with Cobalt’s own AR-15 patterned upper but its cross-platform universality ended there. The grip and stock interface and even the trigger shelf were altered to meet regulations that define and subsequently prohibit a gun based on the geometry of the grip and stock. The receiver extension bears the cheek rest while the aggressively swept grip organically morphs into a stock. It’s made entirely of machined aluminum. It’s a beautiful thing- evidence of the skill and nuance appreciated by the talented artists, engineers and machinists at Cobalt Kinetics.
Now, as far as they dared depart from the norm with the release of the 27, this most recent rumbling from Cobalt would seem to deviate even further from their established traditions- the hand crafted individually fit rifles for which the company is known. This strategic pivot in product offering manages to connect the universal legality and utility of the 27 to the masses of AR-15 owners living under the shadow of anti-gun legislation. It’s called the Forged Upper Conversion Kit, and it presents as an empty lower half- complete with grip and stock and receiver extension and cheek rest- that has been redesigned (from Cobalt’s own signature aesthetic) to mate seamlessly with most all off-the-shelf AR patterned upper receivers. Like all of Cobalt’s wares, the Forged Upper Conversion Kit is still hewn from a solid block of 7075 T651 certified aluminum alloy, but machined to a contour that will indeed mate and function with nearly every AR-15 upper out there.
The Forged Upper Conversion Kit hits the market as a stripped lower- includes only the assembly hardware for the 13 stock components, buffer retainer, bolt catch screw, trigger guard and a couple of non-typical springs (selector and takedown detent). The rest is up to the builder. Cobalt Kinetics assures a 99% cross-brand compatibility as it applies to uppers, triggers, magazine catches and takedown hardware.

Skylar Stewart, Vice President of Cobalt Kinetics added:
“We have always heard the needs of our dealers and clients…More restrictive states (especially California) have been looking for a legal solution to a complicated and ever-changing legislative environment. We are proud of the Forged Upper Conversion Kit and we believe it’s the best way to maintain as much functionality as possible with the AR platform. It can be configured to be legal in all 50 states. The only non-standard parts this platform uses are included in the kit. California is a large and rich gun market that just suffered the enactment of the most sweeping anti-gun legislation since their 1999 assault weapon ban. If you look at the Forged Upper Conversion Kit, it’s apparent that it’s very labor intensive. It’s not an easy thing to produce at Cobalt’s level of quality. This kit is not about supporting our financial bottom line. We want to make this kit accessible to as many people as possible to make a real difference. It’s ridiculous for responsible gun owners to be turned into criminals overnight by misguided laws. At this moment we’re hoping to help support and maintain the shooting culture in our country.”

The Forged Upper Conversion Kit is being released in the “stripped” state at an Introductory MSRP of $699. It’s promised to be available for looks, feels, and buys at Cobalt’s dealers by mid-July. Standard catalog colors are Black, Stainless, Cobalt Kinetics Green, FDE, Gray and Cobalt (gunmetal gray). Contact Cobalt Kinetics for details, restrictions, and special order options.

Black Aces Tactical (BAT), an American manufacturer best known for its patented custom shotguns, is excited to announce the release of the company’s new Semiautomatic Shockwave and Peacekeeper shotguns.

Said Lemoine, “The Shockwave platform has been nothing short of a phenomenon. We have always felt, and more importantly the customers have always felt, that a semiautomatic version is inevitable. The brass ring has always been a semiautomatic 12 gauge platform in the most compact package possible. We feel that we have created an incredible weapon here.”.

At $949 retail – a shooter has choices. Both the Semiautomatic Shockwave and Peacekeeper Pistol Grip versions can be had in 18.5 6+1 trim as well as the uber cool 12.5” 4+1 SBS trim. For a few dollars more, Black Aces Tactical will install a 6 position folding stock.

Both the Shockwave Semiautomatic and Peacekeeper Pistol Grip models feature a number of innovations.

First and most obvious, the recoil assembly must be relocated and old recoil tube modified to accept the grip. Next the gas ports are tuned to operate both low and high brass. Pyramyd Air Partners with Digital Wave Corporation to Offer Life Extended SCBA Air Cylinders For PCP Airgunners

    Sunday, June 24th, 2018

Exclusively available on Pyramyd Air, LE Tanks will provide up to 14 years usable life; $200 savings over new carbon fiber fill sources

Cleveland, Ohio (June 11, 2018) Pyramyd Air, the world’s largest internet airgun retailer in conjunction with Digital Wave Corporation, a leading authority of modal acoustic testing, is pleased to announce the release of Life Extended SCBA tanks for use with precharged pneumatic airguns. Using groundbreaking technology, each expired tank is rigorously tested and restored to Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, extending each tank’s usable life, providing years of dependable service, and presenting a low-cost gateway for PCP airgunning.

“This is very exciting news for PCP airgun owners and those who are thinking about getting into precharged pneumatics.” says Val Gamerman, President of Pyramyd Air. “In the last few years, PCPs have come down in price, but the cost of fill sources has remained high. This exclusive partnership means that airgunners can now purchase higher capacity carbon fiber tanks for less than the cost of smaller systems and save up to $200 on some models.”

Using end-of-life tanks collected from fire departments across the country, Digital Wave subjects each tank to a series of demanding tests that include a visual inspection, ultrasonic cleaning, and Modal Acoustic Emission (MAE) tests to reveal any compromise in the cylinder. Once passed, end-of-life cylinders are given a new expiration date and a new life in the hands of PCP airgunners.

Mark E. Anderson of Digital Wave Corporation said of the collaboration, “Being an avid air gun enthusiast myself, I knew that buying a brand-new carbon fiber cylinder was an expensive purchase. Digital Wave is excited to work with Pyramyd Air to give airgunners a new cost-effective carbon fiber pressure vessel alternative via the Air Venturi LE cylinders”.

Life Extended Air Venturi cylinders are currently available on Pyramyd Air in 30 minute (45 cu ft), 45 minute (66 cu ft) and 60 minute (88 cu ft) options that include new DIN 300 valves and fill hoses with female quick disconnect couplings. Assorted sized tanks, with up to 14 years life remaining are available for purchase immediately on PyramydAir.com. Additional resources are available on PyramydAir.com for those looking to learn more about MAE testing and Life Extended tanks.
