Blast From The Past – Internet Movie Firearms Database

April 21st, 2018

I’m sure you know about the Internet Movie Database, or imdb.com, another one of those internet time sinks that has information on almost every movie ever along with almost every actor ever, the parts they’ve played, etc. Since this is the internet, where just about any damn thing can be found, and copycats are common, somebody made a similar site in the form of a Wiki, but with firearms as the primary focus instead of movies and actors, even calling it the internet movie firearms database. On the site, you can look up what movies, television shows, and video games a firearm has been in, what firearms a movie, television show, or video game has featured, and even what firearms and in what show/movie/video game an actor has used.

It’s pretty exhaustive, which makes games of 6-degrees-of-a-Beretta-92F all the easier to play.

Shell Shock Technologies Sponsored Shooter John Vlieger Places 2nd Overall at USPSA Area 6 Championship

April 20th, 2018

Vlieger placed second in Open Division and Second Overall at the 2018 USPSA Area 6 Championship, held in Okeechobee, Florida, April 12 – 15, 2018.

Westport, Conn. (April 2018) – Shell Shock Technologies, LLC., an early stage technology and manufacturing company focused on developing innovative case technologies for the ammunition industry, is pleased to announce its sponsored shooter John Vlieger finished in 2nd Place in the Open Division and 2nd Place Overall at the 2018 USPSA Area 6 Championship, held at the OK Corral Range in Okeechobee, Florida, April 12 – 15, 2018. Vlieger finished with 1375 match points, only 24 points behind the match winner.USPSA-area6.jpg

“My 9mm major ammunition loaded with Shell Shock Technologies NAS3 cases performed to the standard once again. I had the confidence to focus on my match execution, not whether or not my ammunition was going to be there with me,” commented Vlieger.

Vlieger has fired over 15,000 rounds of ammunition with Shell Shock Technologies’ NAS3 cases since becoming sponsored in 2017 and plans to continue using it.

The 2018 USPSA Area 6 Championship, otherwise known as the GLOCK® Area 6 Championship, runs 12 stages throughout scenes of the Wild West.

Vlieger can be seen competing next at the Battle of the Bluegrass IX at the Bluegrass Pistol Club in Wilmore, Kentucky, April 20 – 21, 2018.

About Shell Shock’s NAS3 Cases:

Shell Shock’s NAS3 9mm cases are 50 percent lighter than brass cases, offer greater lubricity and will not abrade, clog, foul, wear-out or damage breach and ejector mechanisms. The cases offer greater corrosion resistance, tensile strength (2x stronger) and elasticity than brass. NAS3 cases will not split, chip, crack or grow (stretch) and are fully reloadable (using S3 Reload dies) and can be reloaded many more times than brass cases. NAS3 cases have been tested successfully by customers to pressures over 70k psi. NAS3 cases can be picked up with a magnet. The head can be colored for branding purposes and easy load identification.

NAS3 is “Best in Class” for maintaining consistent velocity between rounds. In an independent test performed by H.P. White Laboratory (a major munitions testing facility), rounds fired using NAS3 cases achieved a velocity standard deviation of 0.093 FPS (124-grain FMJ bullet, 4.2 grains Titegroup powder, 10 rounds, extreme variation 3fps).

About John Vlieger:

John Vlieger began seriously competing in the action shooting sports in mid-2014 while stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. When relocated by the Army to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Vlieger found easier access to the larger matches across the Eastern United States and competed in over 15 major pistol events in 2015. Initially focused on Limited Division with iron sights, Vlieger found his calling in Open Division. Relocating to Lexington, KY in 2017, his efforts have redoubled to improve his skills. He has since completed over 50 major-level matches with multiple regional and state titles under his belt. Vlieger plans to compete at over 20 competitions in 2018.

RIP R. Lee Ermey

April 15th, 2018

Statement from R. Lee Ermey’s long time manager, Bill Rogin:

It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us. It is a terrible loss that nobody was prepared for. He has meant so much to so many people. And, it is extremely difficult to truly quantify all of the great things this man has selflessly done for, and on behalf of, our many men and women in uniform. He has also contributed many iconic and indelible characters on film that will live on forever. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman of Full Metal Jacket fame was a hard and principled man. The real R. Lee Ermey was a family man, and a kind and gentle soul. He was generous to everyone around him. And, he especially cared deeply for others in need.

There is a quote made famous in Full Metal Jacket. It’s actually the Riflemen’s Creed. “This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.”

There are many Gunny’s, but this one was OURS. And, we will honor his memory with hope and kindness. Please support your men and women in uniform. That’s what he wanted most of all.

Outland Equipment’s Multi-Mission Axes

April 13th, 2018

Built for the unforgiving environments encountered by military, law enforcement and emergency response professionals, Outland’s American-made Multi-Mission Series axes are reliable tools for rescue and survival situations.

img_8572.jpg

Outland Equipment Multi-Mission Axe (MMA) 1503

Mont Vernon, N.H. (April 2018) – Although axes have been used throughout history as a tool and weapon, little has changed over the millennia in its design. For today’s first responders, military and law enforcement professionals, the axe is still a primary tool for rescue, breaching and survival scenarios. Outland Equipment designs and manufactures state-of-the-art axes and knives specifically engineered to meet the critical demands of those that go in harms’ way.

“A go-to tool for responding to emergency situations,” Chris Aiston, CEO of Outland Equipment, said. “We design these tools for those who operate in harsh environments where failure means disaster. They cut, pound and pry, facilitating structure and vehicle forcible entry and egress. Whatever a first responder requires his tool to do, the MMA series is there to complete the mission and save lives.”

Outland has produced three Multi-Mission Axes (MMA) that not only perform the requirements of an axe, but also integrate other functionality including hammering, prying, cutting seatbelts, cutting sheet metal and working with hex fasteners. The MMA 1502, 1902 and 1503 are all made from a single piece of hardened S7 tool steel, a steel formulated to withstand extreme shock and impact.

img_8573.jpg

Outland Equipment Multi-Mission Axe with extended handle 1902

The head of the MMA series features a 3.9 inch cutting edge with a bolt-on hammer and hex nut tool. The MMA 1502 and 1503 are 15 inches in length, a size convenient for carry and maneuvering in tight spaces. The MMA 1902 with its 19 inch length provides enhanced reach, impact force and leverage. The tail of the MMA 1502 and 1902 feature an angled pry bar, seatbelt cutter and sheet metal cutter. The MMA 1503 tail features an angled pry bar, seatbelt cutter and a hex wrench for urban and residential environments.

The handle grips are made of G10 material, a fiberglass-based epoxy resin that is not only extremely rugged but also impervious to moisture and chemicals, important factors for rescue operators. The handle has been shaped to offer the operator multiple hand positions to optimize a positive grip for the job.

All of Outland’s MMA axes are covered with a Modular Sheath that allows for easy access, quick deployment and multiple carry options. The axe is secured in the sheath using an internal latch and two BioThane® Coated Webbing straps. Carry options are endless for the operator, as the Modular Sheath accepts accessories for mounting on a belt or MOLLE gear, can be bolted to a vehicle or worn on a shoulder strap.

Helle Knives of Norway Unveils Latest Survivorman Knife

April 10th, 2018

Wabakimi knife designed and field-tested in cooperation with Les Stroud

Holmedal, Norway – (April 10, 2018) – Building on an 85-year tradition handcrafting knives designed and tested in the outdoors, Helle unveils its latest collaboration with Les Stroud, star of Survivorman. Named for the vast wilderness park in Ontario, Canada, the Wabakimi knife is designed for self-reliance in nature.

The third in a series of Helle knives designed with Les Stroud, the Wabakimi combines Helle’s 85 years crafting traditional Scandinavian knives with Stroud’s mastery of primitive skills. The latest addition is a medium sized, well-balanced knife small enough for hip carry, yet amply sized to make precise cutting and long carving sessions comfortable and efficient.

The new knife fits between the larger, best selling Temagami (2010), a practical wilderness knife, and the light and compact Mândra (2017) neck knife. The Wabakimi combines the advantages of the Temagami’s ergonomic handle and long, pointed blade with the Mândra’s rounded shape. Featuring a three-quarter, partial tang reinforced with two robust pins, the handle is made from curly birch wood with a lanyard hole and a 3.3-inch drop point blade using Helle’s renowned triple laminated steel.

The new design was conceptualized over several months and handmade prototypes from the Helle factory in Norway were sent to Stroud for extensive field-testing in Alaska. Each prototype received further adjustments and refinements based on invaluable feedback from Stroud. This approach of researching, prototyping, field-testing and refinement constitutes the heart and soul of the Helle design philosophy.

In 1994 Stroud spent a year living close to the land and surviving using only what nature provided in Wabakimi, part of Canada’s far northern boreal forests. “The Wabakimi wilderness helped shaped my path and set in motion a life celebrating nature and wilderness,” says Les Stroud. “With these experiences in mind, and working closely with my friends at Helle, we have created a knife worthy of this remote, wild place.”

”The Wabakimi knife represents nearly a decade working closely with Les,” adds Anders Haglund with Helle of Norway. “From our first meeting in 2009, to creating a collection of world renowned outdoor knives, we’ve come a long way both personally and professionally. We’re excited to see where the next journey leads.”

Wabakimi Knife Specifications:
• Blade material: triple laminated stainless steel
• Handle material: curly birch
• Blade thickness: 3 mm
• Blade length: 3.3-inches
• Handle length: 4.6-inches
• Sheath material: genuine leather
• Weight: 135 g

1942 Marine Combat Sword With Sheath

April 7th, 2018

I just had to post this. It’s basically an unholy amalgam of a katana and a USMC Mark 2 combat knife made of AUS-6 stainless steel with a non-descript black coating. It has a half-tang, with a stacked leather handle. It comes with a nylon sheath with a shoulder strap.

There’s definitely a fantasy knives and swords shop in a near-dead mall somewhere that has, like, 5 of these up on the wall.

You don’t have to worry about ammo shortages.” he said.

Those interested in Real Air Gun Hunting can expect to be taken along on hunts for rabbit, squirrel, raccoon, deer, predators, wild boar and other game. JHO Knives – F**H

April 4th, 2018

I’ll admit to my ignorance, and declare that I’m not really sure what the asterisks in F**H are supposed to be, and whether they are censoring a word, or are just a stylistic choice. I do know, however, what the F**H is: it’s a spiked baton. 10″ long, and weighing a bit over a pound, the F**H consists of a full titanium body, with brass inlays and small spikes. It even comes with a hidden stainless steel spike as part of the grip. In short, it’s a pretty gnarly piece. It’s also sold out; not surprising, given the limited production run of 20 pieces, but kind of surprising, since it was listed at $1250.

Federal Expands Lineup of Its Popular Syntech Ammunition

April 3rd, 2018

ANOKA, Minnesota – April 3, 2018 – Federal Ammunition is pleased to announce a new addition to its full line of Syntech handgun ammunition. Look for Syntech in a variety of the most popular loads, including the new 124-grain 9mm Luger. Shipments are being delivered to dealers.

Conventional ammunition causes metal-on-metal contact between the bullet and bore, which can shorten barrel life and hurt accuracy. The polymer-encapsulated Syntech bullet prevents this, while eliminating copper and lead fouling. Combined with clean-burning powders, your gun will stay cleaner, longer, so you can shoot more—and shoot better. The exclusive Catalyst primer provides the cleanest most consistent ignition possible—that’s why it received the 2017 NRA Golden Bullseye Award.

/r/GunDeals Is Back!

March 31st, 2018

If you don’t frequent Reddit, you’re doing yourself a service. But if you do, you might be aware of the crackdown on subreddits that hosted user-to-user transactions, some of which were firearms-related. It came to light that this crackdown was due to the admins attempting to shut down any potential FOSTA violations on the site, rather than a reaction to the Parkland Shooting, or any other reason of the sort.

Today, it was revealed that /r/GunDeals, one of the most popular firearms, accessory, and ammunition sales aggregate subreddits, and a causality of this crackdown, was reinstated. The moderators of the subreddit worked closely with Reddit’s admins to insure that the subreddit would adhere to Reddit’s revised policies regarding sales aggregate subreddits, that is that all posted deals and sales are only made available through actual firearms dealer and retailers. While this was generally the way the subreddit was ran before the initial ban, it also means that links to websites such as Gunbroker or Armslist, can no longer be posted.

Twelve Open Airgun Athletes Changwon Bound after Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection

March 29th, 2018

FORT BENNING, Georgia (March 29, 2018) — Twelve open airgun athletes will compete for Team USA at the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships later this summer after winning an intense two-part selection match that was finalized today at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) in Fort Benning, Georgia.

Athletes began their quest during the 2017 Winter Airgun Championships and solidified their standing today at the Rifle/Pistol Spring Selection Match following a two-day match and Final. Team spots were handed out to the top-three finishers in Men’s and Women’s Air Rifle and Pistol. The World Championships will take place August 31-September in Changwon, South Korea.

Four Olympians earned their spots on the team including Nick Mowrer (Butte, Montana), Keith Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and Sandra Uptagrafft (Phenix City, Alabama) in Air Pistol along with Lucas Kozeniesky (Fairfax, Virginia) in Men’s Air Rifle.

Of note, all today’s Finals winners across the four Open events were 18 or younger in a great showcase of USA Shooting’s future promise.

The 2012 Olympian Mowrer was dominant across the two matches winning by 28 points in Men’s Air Pistol. Surprisingly, this talented multi-discipline shooter makes his first World Championship after more than eight years on the international competition circuit. James Hall (Anniston, Alabama) earned the second spot in Men’s Air Rifle and makes his first World Championship Team, despite shooting 22 points lower over his two qualification matches at Spring Selection than he did at Winter Airgun.

Making his third World Championship Team where he’ll be competing in his fifth pistol discipline is the three-time Olympian Sanderson. The 43-year-old is the reigning World Cup Finals champion and USA Shooting’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Another notable performance was 18-year-old Jack Leverett’s (Bainbridge, Georgia) Spring match as he finished second overall and was just four points behind Sanderson for open team consideration. He showed he’s in prime form as the 2018 National Junior Olympic Shooting Championship (NJOSC) are next month and will serve as the Junior selection match for World Championships. Challenging him there will be another 18-year-old in Kyler Swisher (Jonestown, Pennsylvania), who was today’s Finals winner.

The game has changed in Women’s Air Pistol with an additional 20 shots added to qualification, but that didn’t seem to faze Alexis Lagan (Boulder City, Nevada) as she defeated the field by 10 points this match and 18 points overall for World Champs selection. She’ll compete in her first World Championships later this summer.

“With the recent change in Women’s Air Pistol, I think this match was challenging, but also new and exciting,” Lagan said after the match. “We all learned a little something and will be able to work on it as we prepare for Korea. There is a lot of potential on our team, and I cannot wait to see it blossom at the World Championships.”

Joining her will be the 2012 Olympian Uptagrafft while 17-year-old Sarah Choe (Los Angeles, California) continues to show maturity beyond her years in earning her selection as well. She would put the exclamation point on her proud moment with a Finals win earlier this afternoon.

Air Force Academy sophomore Logan Ogden (Galway, New York) is the top overall finisher for World Champs selection in Men’s Air Rifle, narrowly defeating Dempster Christenson (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) by .3 points. Earning the third spot is 2016 Olympian Lucas Kozeniesky (Fairfax, Virginia). Ogden will compete in his first World Championship while Christenson readies for his third straight opportunity with Kozeniesky competing as a junior back in 2014.

Today’s notable performance came from 16-year-old Will Shaner (Colorado Springs, Colorado), who earned the Finals win in Men’s Air Rifle.

In Women’s Air Rifle, Mindy Miles (Weatherford, Texas) is putting the finishing touches on a great collegiate career at Texas Christian University and made that much sweeter today with her top overall selection. She edged fellow TCU alum Sarah Beard (Danville, Indiana) by 9.7 points with Ali Weisz (Belgrade, Montana) earning the final selection spot. Miles will compete in her second World Championship after making the junior final in 2014, finishing eighth. Beard is headed to her third straight World Championship and knows what being on the podium there feels like after earning a prone silver medal in 2010 as a junior.

Reigning Olympic gold medalist Ginny Thrasher (Springfield, Virginia) finished fourth overall for World Champs selection, just .3 points behind Weisz.

Emily Stith (Jacksonville, Florida) was today’s Finals winner in the event and finished third in the Spring Selection Match. This is an impressive performance after spending much of the last few months in Army basic training, forcing to miss Winter Airgun, and just getting assigned to the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit earlier this week.
