Chef’s Creations – Colonial Marine USCM BDUs

Chief’s Creations is a UK-based maker of expert-quality, highly-detailed props and costumes, and with the motto ‘Building Better Costumes’ and their Wayland-Yutani inspired company logo, you’d be safe in assuming they’re pretty big on the Aliens franchise.

So proven by their Colonial Marine USCM BDUs. And, right of the bat, it’s worth mentioning how dedicated Chef’s Creations is to living up to their motto: they went through the effort of accurately recreating the ‘Frog Leaf’ USCM camouflage from scratch, based on a swatch of screen used fabric. A British Army textile contractor prints the camouflage onto sheet, from which the BDUs are constructed by hand, made to order.

The BDUs are also patterned accurately after those seen in the film, as the prop house had the opportunity to study a set of ‘screen used’ BDUs; every pocket, seam, and button was studied in detail to create as accurate a reproduction as possible. The BDUs are made using heavy weight cotton drill material, sewn with strong thread, and reinforced “beyond the screen used items for longevity.” Simply put, if you want to make as accurate a USCM cosplay as possible, these are the guys to contact.

Star Wars The Vintage Collection – The Mandalorian Imperial Troop Transport Vehicle

The Mandalorian is considered by many to be a return to form for Star Wars, so it’s appropriate that it gets a retro-inspired vehicle playset from Hasbro under their Kenner Star Wars Vintage Collection series. Based on the original 70’s Kenner Imperial Troop Transport, this new version is inspired by the troop transport featured in The Mandalorian Disney+ series, and features an impressively-detailed weathered paint job, along with opening doors and top hatch, a removable top, and a detailed interior.

Speaking of the interior, this is a troop transport, and it’s designed to carry a number of 3 3/4 inch scale Kenner Star Wars figures. While the product description itself doesn’t reveal the exact number of figures the set is designed for, a cursory glance implies up to 14 can be carried: two in the cockpit, six on the side carriages, and up to six in the rear bay, provided all six seats fold down. That’s pretty impressive, considering the original Troop Transport held up to 11 figures.

Soldier Helps Pave the Way in Army’s First Tabletop Wargame Team

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. — When 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Command Headquarters and Headquarters Company commander, Capt. Ivan Cho, first started playing tabletop wargames in eighth grade, he never would have thought he’d be playing his favorite games while wearing the Army logo.

Cho, and three other Army active duty and reserve Soldiers, did just this as the U.S. Army eSports’ Warhammer 40,000 Team at the Las Vegas Open on January 24, 2020, which hosts the largest Warhammer 40,000 Tournament in the world.

“It really opens up avenues for civilians and other parties to see that the United States Army has opportunities within it if you are willing to branch out and try new things,” said Cho.

The U.S. Army eSports Team is a competition team of the U.S. Army and pulls its members from the Regular Army and Army Reserves. The Team has various sub-teams that fall under the Army eSports Team, including the Army eSports Warhammer 40,000 Team. Members play competitive Warhammer 40,000, a tabletop wargame where players enact battle by using miniature models of warriors and combat equipment on top of the layout of a battlefield.

“For a lot of veterans, Warhammer 40,000 is considered great for morale and therapeutic because of the vast hobby aspects that come with it including building the miniatures, painting them, then being able to compete against other players and hobbyists,” said Cho.

Cho and his teammates competed against over 750 players and played more than six rounds of games. Each round was roughly two and a half hours long, totaling about 15 hours of gaming over the course of two days. All four team members made the top 25 percent of players, competing with some of the best players in the world.

“I think it will have a lot of benefits for future Army players to know they have the backing of the United States Army to play and compete in a hobby they love to do,” said Cho.

The Army eSports Warhammer 40,000 Team consists of six active members from across the Nation: Capt. Red Powell of U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Capt. Ivan Cho, Capt. Matthew Talley of U.S. Army Forces Command, Master Sgt. Justin Pizzoferrato of the U.S. Army Cadet Command, Staff Sgt. Shane Watts of Defense Information Systems Agency, and Staff Sgt. Jason Rider of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

“At this time, we are in the works for opening up more slots on the active team and create a second team to encourage more growth in the Warhammer 40,000 community as well as show the rest of the world that you can be a Soldier and still do your normal hobbies,” said Cho.

Sideshow Collectables – The Child Life-Size Figure

‘The Child’ aka ‘Baby Yoda’ is the breakout character in the recent ‘The Mandalorian’ Star Wars series. Given the character’s immense popularity, why wouldn’t Disney and Sideshow Collectables take the opportunity to release a $350 life-sized replica for all the fans to add to their collection? The New Bren 2 Ms Carbine From CZ-USA

Kansas City, KS (January 20, 2020) – CZ-USA debuts the Bren 2 Ms Carbine at SHOT Show, rounding out their popular Bren 2 platform of semi-automatic firearms.

First released to the US public in pistol form — this new version of the Bren 2 has been built to meet 922(r) compliance and is equipped with a 16.5″ barrel and an adjustable, foldable stock.

Based on the select-fire Bren 2, this handy rifle operates via a short-stroke gas piston system with a return spring contained within the action itself. Without the need for a buffer tube, it features a folding, adjustable stock.     Doom Eternal – Official Story Gameplay Trailer 2

    Doom Eternal was unfortunately delayed from its original November 2019 release date to this coming March. However, we now have this woefully brief story trailer to help tide us over. It shows a space station within Earth’s orbit, which is probably the inter-mission ‘slayer’s base’ that was mentioned in pre-release materials for the game. It also shows one of the central antagonists, supposedly an angel of some type, as well as the Doom Slayer’s rival – a demon decked out in similar armor, and of course plenty of visceral demon slaying.

    2016’s Doom was such a great reimagining of the franchise, and I’m hoping this sequel manages to capture that same spark, although based on the footage seen thus far, that’ll probably be the case.

    Doom Eternal launches March 20th, 2020 on all major consoles and PC.

    REAL PARTS: Star Wars ANH (1977) X-Wing Pilot Helmet

    One of the things that makes the original Star Wars so great is the plethora of props that are inspired by or outright formed from old military weapons and gear. Such is the case with the Rebel X-Wing pilot’s helmet, which was based on a Gentex APH-6 flight helmet. This video by YouTube channel Mike’s Tiny Shop details a bit of this history, and even shows the channel owner’s father’s own Vietnam-era restored APH-6. This is then compared to a replica of Wedge Antilles’ helmet from Episode 4: A New Hope, which the owner created using a helmet shell and miscellaneous parts.

    It’s a cool video to check out, whether your a fan of props, military gear, or tales of a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

    This isn’t the first time we’ve mentioned Gripknife and it probably won’t be the last. In storage mode it looks like an oversized foregrip.

    NERF – Fortnite Rocket Launcher

    While the excessive popularity of Fortnite escapes me, I do appreciate any cool dart blasters that come out to the market. And this clearly RPG-7 inspired Fortnite Rocket Launcher from NERF certainly fits the description of “cool dart blaster”.

    Modeled after the rocket launcher in the game Fortnite, but more brightly colored and less detailed than the in-game model to better establish itself as a toy, this particular blaster is pump action and fires large NERF foam rockets, two of which come with the blaster.

    It’s great to see another product in NERF’s comparatively limited line of large projectile blasters, and whether it’s kept as is, or customized with a paint job to better match the look of its name sake, this would be an awesome addition to any NERF war.

    Custom NERF Volley Blaster

    Former toy designer, electrical and mechanical engineer, and YouTuber James Bruton came up with the idea for a NERF volley blaster after lamenting the lack of multi-shot blasters on the market. His design is built from 3D printed parts, and rather than launch the darts via air pressure, they feed from 10-round ‘magazines’ into a motorized roller system which plucks them out of the mag and launches them forward. It’s large and unwieldy, but as far as a proof-of-concept goes, it’s pretty neat.
