STRIKELOADER – Paintball Backpack Loader

Monday, August 26th, 2013

The STRIKELOADER is a battery operated backpack feed system designed for paintball markers currently up for funding on RocketHub. It completely replaces the hopper with a hose that feeds paintballs at a rate of 42bps (balls/sec). It has a total capacity of 1200 paintballs and a rechargable battery that last for over 10,000 paintballs. The STRIKELOADER is shatter-proof, waterproof, and can be customized with add-on camouflage neoprene covers for the pack and hose to let the user adapt the camo pattern of their choice. The bottom of the unit can be configured so the hose exit is to either the left or right. It uses a belt system standard as a carry option, although a MOLLE/PALS adapter will be made available for attachment to a tactical vest. Additional accessories will include: gas bottle holder to clip onto the side of the loader, car battery charger, spare hose, spare hose bag, adapters for magazine-fed markers, and an LCD adapter that displays information including remaining amount of paintballs, current charge, and other information.

NERF Z-Strike Line – Sledgefire/Machete/Z-Bombs

Monday, August 26th, 2013

SledgeFire

We recently purchased the first in the line of NERF Z-Strike zombie-themed blasters and toys. This is the Sledgefire. It’s a break-action blaster that fires three zombie strike darts at a time, loaded via a shell. The stock can hold up to three of these shells, a nine dart capacity, in addition to a shell in the chamber; the Sledgefire comes with three shells standard. It’s a bit bright and colorful for a “zombie” themed blaster, although it does have the obligatory ‘taped-up grip’ so often featured in post-apocalyptic scenarios and has branding reminding you it is in fact a Z-Strike blaster. It also features the NERF rail system standard with the N-Strike line for the attachment of additional accessories. The way it loads reminds me of the Storm PSR from Black Ops II.

IMG_1500

This is the Machete [Machete Machete*] and the Z-Strike Z-Bombs. Fitting in a bit better with the “zombie” theme, the Machete [Machete Machete] has a duller color pallet, with a ‘taped-up’ grip and Z-Strike branding; I don’t think I need to mention it’s made of foam, but I will anyway. The Z-bombs are the most interesting part of the line, so far. They’re foam throwing projectiles, but some of them are pretty wild. From left to right: a half-football stuffed with three sticks of dynamite, some kind of explosive shell/grenade, a good-ole’-fashioned taped-up brickbat, and a sawblade.

The Slegeshot is a Target stores exclusive. I’m pretty sure you can find the Machete [Machete Machete] and the Z-bombs in other shops, although the line isn’t featured on the official NERF page yet.

*The packaging the Machete, and the rest of the line, comes in is tri-lingual: English, French, and Spanish. Since machete is spelled the same in all three languages, the name repeats itself three times.

Gerber Gear Round Up – Bear Grylls Survival Belt

Sunday, August 25th, 2013

Gerber gear offers a selection of knives, flashlights, belts, and other survival tools for the outdoorsman. We purchased a small variety of Gerber survival tools, and put them to the test with our own weekend warriors, our three Boy Scouts. The rules were simple. They could select any of the products that wanted but had to write about their impressions.

Each week, we’ll feature a new Gerber product review written by one of the Scouts.

IMG_1512

The Bear Grylls Survival Belt has a secret compartment on the belt buckle that you twist counter-clockwise revealing the following tools:

-Snare Wire
-Fishing Line
-Fishing Hook
-Snap Swivels
-Weights
-Signaling Mirror

The back of the belt buckle reveals a mini screwdriver with flathead and Philips tips. Also on the interior of the belt is a zippered compartment.

I like almost everything about this belt. I love the fishing line, fishing hook, snare wire, snap swivels, weights, and how the signaling mirror is located on the back of the cap. Also, it’s easy to tighten and loosen. What I dislike about it is the mini screwdriver is really hard to get out and the zipper pocket being on the inside instead of the outside. Overall, the belt is worth having in survival scenarios.

An Awesome Movie Fight Scene

Sunday, August 25th, 2013

I wanted to put up the greatest fight scene in cinematic history, Roddy Piper and Keith David’s drawn-out brawl in ‘They Live’, but copyright claims prevented that. Instead, this is a scene from ‘The Raid: Redemption’, an awesome Indonesian action film.

“Combat Pasta” – Weaponizing Spaghetti

I’m going to be completely up front on this one: it’s mostly ‘what already sharp object can we combine with uncooked/cooked pasta to make an effective projectile and/or melee weapon’.

Spira Duck Dynasty Camouflage Shoe

Friday, August 23rd, 2013

DD-Spira-Shoes-description

Spira and Duck Dynasty have partnered up to create officially licensed Duck Dynasty camouflage shoes. The shoes are based on Spira’s Stinger XLT performance shoe which features WaveSpring technology. They’re currently up for croudfunding on RocketHub, where they’ve already exceed their initial $100,000 goal. It’s also implied that only through RocketHub that the featured versions of these shoes can be obtained; they’re billed as limited edition. What’s really cool about the funding, however is that by exceeding the funding goal, A&E is donating $20,000 to America’s VetDogs, an organization that provides service dogs for disabled veterans and active duty personnel.

RF configurator

The Local Motors Rally Fighter is a kick-ass machine, but it’s a little above obtainable for the common man. Still, you can at least model your ideal RF using the Local Motors Configurator. You can choose the primary and secondary color scheme, the design pattern, additional details like accessories and rims, and even one of two environments to model it in. The one I configured for the image has an Urban Camo pattern with OD Green as the main and a textured black as the accent.

Mil-Spec Monkey Logo Spotted In Call Of Duty: Ghosts Footage

Wednesday, August 21st, 2013

Monkey In CoD

I was watching some of the alpha multiplayer footage from Call of Duty: Ghosts and I noticed a very familiar looking logo being used as a player emblem. Specifically, it’s the Mil-Spec Monkey logo, slightly altered to include either some frost or a white beard along the chin. I contacted Monkey directly about spotting this, to get his take on its inclusion in the game. The verdict? While I wasn’t flat out told directly, it doesn’t look like its use was authorized by Monkey himself.

It can be seen in this video around the 1:30 and 1:50 marks.

history-mainbanner-historyjackets2

Started in October, 1959, Alpha Industries began as a small-scale manufacturer of military clothing. Over the years, they grew in size and ended up supplying jackets and pants for US Military forces, including Air Force and Naval Aviation flight jackets, Army and Marine Corps field jackets, and other military pants and clothing; over 40 million garments up to and through the Vietnam War. They’re best known for the MA-1 flight jacket and the M-65 field jacket, which initially reached the public through surplus supplies. Now, Alpha Industries offers both military garments and military-inspired casual clothing for public consumption, easily recognized thanks to the iconic three-line label, which Alpha trademarked and integrated into their logo.

12-Course Meal In A Can

Tuesday, August 20th, 2013

can1

-selection of local cheeses with sourdough bread
-pickled kobe beef with a charred straberry
-ricotta ravioli with a soft egg yolk
-shitake mushroom topped with filled peppers
-halibut poached in truffle butter in a coconut crepe
-risotto foraged ramps, prosciutto & fresh parmesan
-french onion soup with fresh thyme & gruyere cheese
-roast park belly & celeriac root puree
-palate cleanser, pear ginger juice
-rib eye steak with grilled mustard greens
-crack pie with milk ice cream on a vanilla tuile
-french canele with a malt barley & hazlenut latte

These 12 courses were prepared, ran through a food processor, and combined with gelatin, a process that took roughly an hour per layer. While it was never intended for consumption (it was created as part of a dissertation on consumer culture) it’s still a pretty interesting concept.

Chrome Reflective Camouflage – Orlav

Monday, August 19th, 2013

Orlov Reflective Camo Bags

Chrome has released a limited edition run of three of their signature bags with a special reflective camouflage. Specifically, the bags are printed with a French camo pattern, and the fourth color of each of the three variants is made from a glass-bead print that is reflective up to 100 feet. The three available pattern variants are Black, Desert, and Woodland. The bags are made in the USA.

This particular bag is the Orlav. It’s constructed from weatherproof, 1000D Cordura nylon with a welded-weatherproof 1200D military-grade truck tarpaulin liner. Dual waterproof compartments separate wet and dry cargo, and external pockets feature stainless-steel hardware for quick, secure access to u-lock and work tools. The Orlav also features daisy-chain mounting loop for attaching carabineer clips or bike lights, and a zippered pocket designed to fit up to a Macbook Pro 15″ laptop. In addition to the Orlav, the Victor and Citizen bags got the reflective treatment.

Nerf Mission App

Williamsburg, Virginia – Hunter Research and Technology is pleased to announce it’s latest client app project, the Nerf Mission App, developed in partnership with Hasbro, Inc. The Nerf Mission App works with the new Nerf N-Strike Elite Tactical Rail Mount Accessory and turns an N-Strike Elite blaster into a full battle cam with heads up display, compass, inclinometer, and rangefinder. The app lets users record photos and videos, track their arsenal, learn about hand signals used to communicate with a squad, and plan out different missions for multiplayer Nerf battles.

The Nerf Mission App is based on the Theodolite Augmented Reality Navigation app developed by Hunter Research and Technology. This game-changing app defined a new standard for augmented reality navigation when it debuted in 2009, and has been a #1 selling navigation app in iTunes stores around the world. Uses are endless, and Theodolite is great for outdoor sports, hiking, boating, hunting, golf, sightseeing, photography, home projects, and navigation. The app has professional grade features for advanced measurement, observation, and data acquisition, and is used in the field on the job every day by military personnel, first responders, search and rescue workers, surveyors, geologists, architects, engineers, and competitive sportsmen around the world.

Theodolite lets users take geo-stamped camera images, screenshots, movies, and HUD-based screen movies directly from the app. The app includes features like a navigation calculator, map with live markers, team tracking, data logging, KML export, percent grade display, mil compass readout, optical rangefinders (including a mil-based reticle and sniper-style stadiametric graphs), and colored lens filters to improve use in dark conditions and preserve night vision. Theodolite supports over a dozen position formats, and offers an optional World Geodetic Datum Pack with over 220 geodetic datums covering regions and countries on all continents around the world.

“We’re pleased to take Theodolite’s powerful augmented reality technology in a fun and exciting new direction,” said Dr. Craig Hunter, principal and lead developer at Hunter Research and Technology. “Theodolite has a strong customer base of professionals, outdoor enthusiasts, and high-tech gadget nerds, and the Nerf Mission App brings a whole new group of more playful and younger users into the fold.”

The Nerf Mission App is available for free from the iTunes App Store, and works with most iPhone and iPod touch devices running iOS 5.0 or later (iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, and 5 are supported, as well as 4th- and 5th-generation iPod touch). User ucfnate on Reddit showed off his Halo-themed grips for his M9A1 pistol. The work was done by Derek Smith of DS Grips, and feature the UNSC logo on one side, and a glow-in-the-dark ring on the other that closely replicates the same hue of Cortana’s light.

Shambles

Shambles

Yeah, the market is a bit beyond oversaturated with zombies at the moment, but this game made by Markus “Notch” Persson of Minecraft fame is quite similar to FPS games of old, like Doom and Duke Nukem, and is pretty entertaining, considering it was made in only seven days. Plus, it’s pretty funny that the pistol and rifle were modeled after NERF blasters.
