Wednesday, August 17th, 2011Peter Thiel, founder of PayPal, has just sunk $1.25 million of his own money into the Seasteading Institute, an organization that essentially wants to create an above-the-ocean version of Rapture. Lack of genetics-altering, stem cell-loaded sea slugs aside, this seems like a fantastic idea, especially after reading this quote: “a kind of floating petri dish for implementing policies that libertarians, stymied by indifference at the voting booths, have been unable to advance: no welfare, looser building codes, no minimum wage, and few restrictions on weapons.” Honestly, you’d figure billionaires would be rich enough to sit down and play more video games. Andrew Ryan tried this in the 50’s and he ended up with a civil war on his hands… wait, “…few restrictions on weapons.”? It’s decided, I’m sold! Now, where do I apply for citizenship?

Ares’s full range of slings, packs, rigs and the EFFIN-A compensator are featured in full force, but not by name, forcing curious viewers to actually search for the items, which potentially drums up more interest. A smart move on Ares’s part that sets a new standard for promo vids.

Orange Peel Flame Thrower? Tell me more.
Monday, July 25th, 2011See, oranges like to attract animals to eat the fruit so they’ll “pass along” the seeds so further generations of oranges can grow. Basically, the circle of life at work. However, not everything that eats oranges can and/or will pass along these seeds, namely mold and insects; they just like the sugar. So, in order to protect itself, the orange has a system of pouches in the peel that hold an oil. When a pouch is ruptured by, say, a hungry insect, the oil spurts forth and kills the intruder. It just so happens this oil is also flammable, so if you squeeze some on an open flame… well, I’m sure that’s self-explanatory.
tl/dr: Orange peel oil is flammable. Just watch the video above.
Just remember that Tactical Fanboy in no way, shape or form is condoning playing/experimenting with fire and/or potentially dangerous natural oils. It’s simply for entertainment purposes only.

Adult Store Burglar Caught In Closet With Blow-Up Doll
Saturday, July 9th, 2011Earlier this week, U.S. Army Captain Justin Dale Little Jim broke into the MVC Late Night adult store in Woodbridge, Virgina. After taking more than $200 dollars worth of products and storing them in his vehicle, he went back in and preceded to attempt sexual relations with a blow-up doll in a store closet, where he was caught by police. Oh, and he was wearing women’s panties at the time. Little Jim was charged with burglary, grand larceny, and destruction of property and was held in the Prince William jail on Wednesday without bail. His trial is scheduled to take place on August 23rd.

Hype Comics of Miami FL is releasing a comic version of the fateful raid in Pakistan, and if you bid high enough they’ll put your face on the operator who pulls the trigger at the moment of truth. You won’t me a member of DevGru though. You’ll be a shooter on Seal Team X.
“The auction winner will also receive a panel of original hand-drawn artwork with their character in action,” says Hype’s CEO Scott Owneby, “proudly autographed by the original artist.”
The auction began on June 13th and is scheduled to last until June 23rd. As of Friday the 17th there were six bids, the highest $250, a seemingly lackluster response but it’s still early.
“Anybody is welcome to bid,” states Ownbey. “The only requirement, due to pre-existing story considerations, is that the winning bidder be male.”
Seal Team X: The Blood of Bin Laden is scheduled for release as a digital comic book for Kindle, Nook, iPad and other devices with eBook apps. Apparently, Blood of Bin Laden is only the first in an entire SEAL Team X series.
Hype advises that they’ll be donating a portion of the proceeds to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans).

Turkey Cracks Down On Hackers
Thursday, June 16th, 2011Turkish police captured and arrested 32 individuals believed to be involved in the hacking and subsequent takedown of government websites last Thursday. The attack was allegedly executed by ‘Anonymous’, a well-known if loosely-affiliated hacker collective, in response to the internet filters the Turkish government plans to implement in August. The arrests were made last Sunday, the day of Turkey’s national elections, in 12 different cities, and included eight minors and a lawyer. ‘Anon’ has already pledged to “fight” Turkey over the internet filters. I believe the arrests will only further increase their aggression.
Special Forces Prepare For Possible Terror Attack At Rugby World Cup
Monday, June 13th, 2011Members of the SAS and Counter Terrorism Tactical Assault Group working with armed police in Auckland are holding anti-terrorism exercises in preparation for the Rugby World Cup, held in New Zealand this year. Exercises include scenarios such as a bombing and kidnapping, and are being performed in locations including Papakura, Ardmore and Mercer. This allows the forces to test their skills in an environment in which they would be used. Due to the secretive nature of Special Forces, the exact location of the operations are unknown.

Kit Up! Interviews Dale Dye

This is largely in part to Dale Dye and his company Warrior Inc. Dye, a former marine with several tours in Vietnam, served as both an infantryman and combat correspondent. This experience led to his career as a consultant for and actor in various Hollywood war movies, including the aforementioned Platoon, which has been released on Blu-ray today, May 24th. To showcase this event, Kit Up! interviewed him about his career and experiences in the military and Hollywood.

I’m impressed with the sheer volume of information available on this DVD. It includes details on over 50,000 firearms by hundreds of manufactures, from A.M.S.D to ZVI, including high-res images, technical specifications, and pricing when applicable. The guide offers detailed information on hundreds of types of ammunition including ballistics and pricing. Also available is a library over 1,550 printable firearm and airgun schematics and parts lists from 130 manufactures, 500 printable targets, a US-EU ammo caliber chart, and a video on the construction of bespoke guns. It’s easily the most comprehensive collection of firearms information I’ve ever had the pleasure of looking at. I highly recommend it.
Diane McInerney Of Inside Edition Trains Like A Navy SEAL

Diane McInerney of Inside Edition recently spent a day training with instruction from former SEALs Don Shipley and Lalo Roberti at the Extreme SEAL Experience outside Norfolk, VA. During the simulation, Diane wore around 60 pounds of equipment in addition to going through tactical training similar to that which SEAL Team Six went through before the raid on UBL’s compound. The exercise included how to infiltrate a building using a rope ladder, climb the side of a building, and crash through a window, with REAL glass, boots first. Quite the impressive feat (no pun intended).

Unabomber’s Trick Shoes Up For Auction

This is an image of the Unabomber’s shoes, which appear to have Chuck Taylor soles used as false bottoms to throw off any potential trails. They’re up for grabs, along with many of his other personal effects, through the U.S. Marshals’ Auction, which will run from May 18th through June 2nd. The proceeds of this auction will go to compensating the Unabomber’s victims.

German News Channel Mistakes Star Trek Maquis Emblem For Actual SEAL Team Six Emblem

German news channel N24 confused the actual emblem of SEAL Team Six with an emblem made by a member of Maquis Forces International, a Star Trek fan organization based on the Maquis, itself an organization featured in The Next Generation*, Deep Space Nine*, and Voyager*. Based simply on how cool it looks, I could see why N24 would settle with the (unintentional) imposter emblem. However, the inclusion of a phaser, a Klingon skull, bat’leth swords, ‘SEALS’ instead of ‘SEAL’, and the word Maquis should have been enough evidence to point towards some kind of error. After all, SEAL Team Six did use the HK416 in the Bin Laden takedown, so proper recognition from a German news channel isn’t uncalled for. It’s still funny, though.
*These are all Star Trek series that nobody cares about.
