Blast From The Past – The Arcus 3D-Printed Rubber Band Gatling Gun

Tuesday, September 17th, 2019

A few years back, I briefly mentioned The Arcus, A 3D-Printed Rubber Band Gatling Gun. Since the original video was taken down or otherwise made unavailable, I’d say it’s worth a revisit.

As the title states, The Arcus is a rubber band Gatling gun, made with 3D-printed components. It fits over the forearm and is capable of discharging 48 rubber bands in seconds. Impressively, the gun has no external firing mechanism, aside from the initial trigger pull, as it’s powered entirely by the energy from the rubber bands that it shoots.

What’s also impressive is the design: the Arcus requires no adhesive or fasteners to construct; all the parts snap together, and it can freely and repeatedly be taken apart and reassembled. The parts themselves are designed to be printed without any supports, and all fit on a 200mm x 200mm print bed.

So, if you have an appropriate 3D printer, or access to one, and are looking for a cool new project that involves the rapid discharge of projectiles, then you may want to give The Arcus a try.

The full instructions and part files can be found at the link below:

LEGO – Ultimate Collectors Series – Imperial Star Destroyer

Sunday, September 8th, 2019

LEGO will soon be releasing not just one of its largest Star Wars sets, but one of its largest sets yet released in general: the Imperial Star Destroyer ‘Devastator’ from the opening scene of Star Wars Episode 1: A New Hope. Consisting of almost 4800 pieces, this set is sized 14″ H x 43″ L x 26″ W fully constructed; 17″ high when set on its included display stand. It features swiveling guns, a tilting radar dish, huge engine exhausts, and intricate surface detailing. While it’s designed so that it can be picked up and handled, this is one by its very nature that’s designed to go straight into a display case.

Unfortunately, the included Minifigures are a bit limited: you get an Imperial Officer and Imperial Crewmember, each with their own pistol weapons. However, the set comes complete with a scale model of the rebel Tantive IV ship, and a TIE Fighter, both of which can be set within the docking bay, which is pretty cool.

Check out the video below to see LEGO Senior Designer Henrik Andersen go over the set and his process for designing it:

The Imperial Star Destroyer ‘Devastator’ set releases October 1st, or September 18th for LEGO VIP members.

Action Wheels – 24 Volt Thunder Tank Ride-On

Thursday, September 5th, 2019

Thunder…Thunder…Thunder Tank, Ho!

This rideable tank from Action Wheels is seriously one of the coolest toys to come out in recent memory. Sized to fit up to two small children – it comes in at roughly 4 feet x 3 feet x 2 feet, with a recommended age range of 3+, and a total weight limit of 150 lbs, this Thunder Tank is powered by a 24 volt battery, and with two forward speeds and one reverse speed, can travel up to 5 MPH.

But it isn’t just for driving: it also has a manually rotating turret with working cannon, and a swivel machine gun with lights and sounds! The spring-loaded canon fires plastic shells, which are loaded by lifting a loading door on the barrel, and additional shells can be stored behind the driver on the rear end of the turret. Additionally, the Thunder Tank features red battle lights, authentic sounds that play from a speaker located on the turret seats, and ‘authentic’ design with decals throughout.

If you’re curious how it runs and sounds, check out some of the videos featuring it on YouTube; it’s seriously as cool as it sounds.

The Thunder Tank is available exclusively from Wal-Mart: www.walmart.com/ip/NEW-WALMART-EXCLUSIVE-24-Volt-Thunder-Tank-Ride-On-With-Working-Cannon-and-Rotating-Turret/204394575

Jasco Games is bringing an Evil Dead 2 board game to Kickstarter

Friday, August 16th, 2019

Las Vegas-based Jasco Games, designer and publisher of various types of tabletop and card games, has announced that they’re soon going to be putting an Evil Dead 2 board game up on the crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter.

Here’s a bit of background that lead to this announcement: there was an earlier attempt by Bellingham, Washington-based Space Goat Productions to fund an Evil Dead 2 boardgame via Kickstarter. Unfortunately, despite funding from 6000+ backers, Space Goat revealed they would be unable to complete the game and had no concrete solution for the issue. Normally, that would be the end of it, the game would have fallen into obscurity, and all the backers of the original project would go empty-handed.

However, Jasco Games, in partnership with board game designers Lynnvander Studios, have obtained the board game rights for Evil Dead 2, and will be creating their own Evil Dead 2 board game. This new Evil Dead 2 board game, which is also going up on Kickstarter, will have some of the elements from the Space Goat game integrated into its design, and Jasco Games will also be donating a copy of this new game to a backer of the Space Goat version, for every copy funded in the new campaign.

It’s easy to recognize the irony in crowdfunding the revival of a game that failed to be created after its own crowdfunding campaign fell through. However, Jasco Games has a lot of great games based on famous properties under their umbrella, so they’re probably the best bet to actually seeing this project through.

Here’s a link to the official announcement: jascogames.com/jasco-games-looks-to-revive-evil-dead-2-the-official-board-game

Stay tuned for more info on the Kickstarter campaign when it goes live.

NERF Elite Titan CS-50

Sunday, August 11th, 2019

The Titan CS-50, which is due in stores starting in September, is an absolute monster of a dart blaster. Virtually the NERF equivalent of a minigun, the Titan CS-50 features a spinning barrel assembly, and feeds from a massive 50-round drum, which will initially be available only with this blaster. The fire rate is reportedly 8 rounds a second, so it’ll blow through its drum quick. It also requires 4 “D” batteries to run, and comes with a shoulder strap, because with a blaster this size, you’re gonna need one.

The drum mag alone is actually pretty cool. It has Elite branding on the front, and a clear plastic window on the rear so you can check your remaining darts. Additionally, the bottom of the mag has a skeltonized foot, so it can serve as a pesudo-monopod. And, although this isn’t a surprise, the drum looks to be fully compatible with all other Elite blasters on the market.

Marvel Legends Gamerverse Punisher War Machine Helmet Prop Replica

Saturday, June 29th, 2019

As part of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends prop line, they will be releasing a ‘GamerVerse’ Punisher War Machine Helmet prop, based on the Punisher in War Machine armor as seen in the video game ‘Marvel Future Fight’.

The helmet is 1:1 scale, and sized so that most adults should be able to wear it. It features a highly-detailed sculpt and paint job, with glowing LED eyes and electronic sounds. The faceplate is magnetized, so it can be attached and detached, which triggers the aforementioned eyes and sounds.

This is a retailer-exclusive release, so you’ll have to get it through Entertainment Earth. It’s up for pre-order now, with an expected release this coming October: www.entertainmentearth.com/product/marvel-legends-gamerverse-punisher-war-machine-helmet-prop-replica-exclusive/hse8679

Tim Mee Toys – 22 Inch Dominator Tank – Olive Drab

Saturday, April 27th, 2019

This is the Dominator M60A2 Battle Tank from US-based toy manufacturer Tim Mee Toys. Coming in sized at 18.75″ (22″ w/ barrel) x 8.25″ x 9.25″, the Dominator is deliberately sized for 3.75″ figures – like those from the 80s G.I. Joe line.

This is appropriate because the Dominator is actually a reproduction of a similarly named line of generic tanks manufactured by PROCESSED PLASTIC COMPANY (Tim Mee’s parent company) in the early 90s to work with the aforementioned Joe figures, and other similarly-sized action figures.

Made of Olive Green HDPE plastic, the Dominator features a fully-rotating turret, a commander’s cupola that rotates 90 degrees, a storage trunk, an elevating gun barrel, retractable hatches, and functioning wheels. This tank comes complete with a sticker sheet of reproduction patriotic stickers and shooting star graphics.

YouTube channel Parabellum Arms shows of this amazing home-made rubber band gun modeled after the M41A Pulse Rifle wielded by the Colonial Marines of the Alien franchise. The M41A also features ambi sling mounts, and a telescoping stock.

Nendoroid – PUBG The Lone Survivor

Sunday, February 24th, 2019

Truthfully, I’m not much of a fan of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, or Battle Royale games in general, but I do recognize their popularity. That’s why this Nendoroid of The Lone Survivor, the faceless character of PUBG’s key art, caught my interest. A Nendoroid, for those who aren’t familiar, is like a Funko POP! figure, but better, because they’re more detailed and poseable, with multiple points of articulation. Such is the case with The Lone Survivor Nendoroid, who not only comes with the aforementioned articulation, but also has a helmet with a flip-up visor, and an AK, M9, and Frying Pan as accessories.

It’s currently available for pre-order from the Good Smile Company, with a planned release of September, 2019.

Goonies Sloth and Chunk 8-Inch Scale Clothed Action Figure 2-Pack

Saturday, February 23rd, 2019

The Goonies is a classic 80’s adventure film that I’m sure most of my readership is familiar with. If you’re not, now you know about it, so watch it; it’s entertaining, honest. NECA, noted manufacturers of toys based on movies (and games, and comics, and tv shows, etc.) is releasing a 2-pack of Sloth and Chunk from The Goonies as part of their clothed action figures line. As implied by the name of the line, the figures come with cloth outfits; Sloth is 8 inches tall with a pirate’s knife and hat, and Chunk is 5 inches tall with a pirate hat and replica David statue with a bit of… movie-accurate anatomical damage.

This set is scheduled to release September 2019.

Stranger Things D&D Starter Set

Wednesday, February 20th, 2019

This is one of those licensing deals that’s pretty darn logical, and pretty cool to see become a reality; a D&D starter set that’s based on Mike’s ‘Hunt for the Thessalhydra’ adventure from the first episode of Stranger Things. The set consists of a rule book, adventure book, and game dice, along with pre-made character sheets from the episode, although players can use blank sheets to create their own characters, if wanted. The set will also include 2 Demogorgon figures, one pre-painted, and the other one blank and ripe for customization.

The Stranger Things D&D Starter Set is set to release on May 1, 2019.

Sideshow Collectables – Jack Burton 1/6 Scale Figure

Tuesday, February 19th, 2019

Sideshow has released a lot of awesome figures over the years, but in my (extremely biased) opinion, this one is easily one of the best: the 1/6 scale Jack Burton from ‘Big Trouble in Little China’. Coming in at 12″ in height, this highly-detailed figurine features a lifelike Jack Burton headsculpt (complete with mullet), multiple points of articulation, and some truly-impressive, movie-accurate clothing details, such as the laces on his boots, the included denim jacket, and even the stitching on his watch cuff.

The figure comes complete with Jack’s semi-auto TEC-9 pistol, Gerber TAC knife, multiple hand configurations, and a “Guardian” accessory figure, AKA the floating eyeball creature.

This figure is limited to 1500 units worldwide, and is available exclusively through Sideshow’s website.

Sideshow Collectables – The Punisher (War Machine Armor) 1/6 Scale Figure

Thursday, January 24th, 2019

Ok, so it’s easy to be completely disconnected from the crazy, ever-shifting plotlines of modern comics, so in case you’re not familiar: the Punisher’s been a Frankenstein’s monster, given angelic powers, and most lately he’s taken up the mantle of Ghost Rider, and he raised a baby Thanos into a Punisher himself. So, a Frank Castle in War Machine armor is pretty tame by comparison, and given all that heavy weaponry, pretty appropriate. Manufactured by Hot Toys and sold by Sideshow, this War Machine Punisher figure comes in at 32.5 cm in height (~13 in), and features 30 points of articulation, as well as a helmeted head with LED ligh-up fuction and skull pattern. Plus, it comes with the following weapons and accessories:

– Detachacble chest armor
– Built-in shoulder missile launchers
– Missle firing forearm armor
– Two sets of interchangeable forearm inner armor
– 4 pairs of interchangeable hands
– Articulated shoulder-mounted mini-gun
– Articulated back-mounted shoulder cannon
– Ammo belt for mini gun

This figure comes complete with a figure stand and interchangeable graphic card.

Sixteen 12 Collectables – UFO Collection

Monday, December 24th, 2018

UFO (pronounced you-foe, not you-eff-oh) was a British television series that premiered in 1970, detailing the efforts of the clandestine organization SHADO (Supreme Headquarters, Alien Defence Organisation), to defend the Earth against alien invaders. Not only is the premise great, but it also had an excellent opening theme.

In celebration of this classic TV show, Sixteen 12 Collectables is releasing a series of three collectable models of vehicles from the show: the Sky 1, S.H.A.D.O Mobile, and UFO Interceptor. The Sky 1 and Mobile are part of the ‘studio scale masterpiece’ collection, built to exacting detail, and limited to only 100 pieces worldwide. The UFO Interceptor is part of the ‘limited edition diecast collection’ and will consist of three (3) Interceptors per set, and will be highly-detailed in their appearance. The release date for all three vehicle sets is sometime in Fall 2019.

Mezco – One:12 Collective Popeye The Sailorman Figure

Wednesday, December 19th, 2018

Popeye is the newest addition to Mezco’s One:12 Collective collection, and he’s been rendered in a detailed, more-realistic styling than his typical appearances. As implied by the series name, this figure is 1:12 scale (14cm/5.5″ tall) and features over 28 points of articulation, and two interchangeable head portraits: described as “stern stare” and “salty glare”, respectively. In addition to 7 interchangeable hands, this figure also comes with a cloth sailor’s uniform and pea coat, and the following accessories: a functional drawstring duffle bag, a collapsible spy glass, a compass with hinged lid, two spinach cans, three different hats, and two styles of corncob pipes.

www.mezcotoyz.com/one-12-popeye

For those who are more enamored with Popeye’s classic look from the 1940s to 1960s, Mezco is also offering a special edition variant of the figure in his classic Navy whites. Aside from the uniform change, this variant comes with all the same or equivalent accessories, but also comes in a special themed container that’s modeled after a can of spinach.

MMX Vancouver – MMX Marshmallow Crossbow

Sunday, December 16th, 2018

TMMX Vancouver’s Marshmallow Crossbow is pretty self-explanatory: it’s a crossbow that’s designed to shoot marshmallows. Capable of firing dry, regular-sized marshmallows up to 60 feet, the Marshmallow Crossbow is made of “over 99% natural materials”, and looks pretty darn cool. The makers also recommend using corn starch on the projectiles for smooth firing, but also to produce a puff of “smoke” when fired, and also as a way to mark your targets.

Threezero – X-01 Power Armor Figure

Thursday, December 13th, 2018

If you’re a fan of Fallout, and pricey, highly-detailed collectable figures, then you may want to give threezero’s X-01 Power Armor figure a look. Standing in at 14.5″ tall, the X-01 Power Armor figure features 35 points of articulation, a highly-detailed male head, X-01 helmet with light-up LED function, and an Assaultron Blade.

What’s really cool about this figure is the X-01 armor pieces can be complete removed, revealing an equally-detailed endoskeleton. Plus, the armor parts are swappable with all previous threezero Fallout Power Armor figures, so you can make your figure look like your Power Armor in-game, like when you only have three pieces of X-01 armor and have to fill in the empty slots with T-60 and T-51 parts. Not that I’m speaking from experience, or anything.

NERF Zombie Strike Ripchain

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018

Honestly, the zombie craze peaked years ago, but that doesn’t stop NERF’s Zombie Strike from having some cool blasters, and the Ripchain is no exception. The Ripchain is a fairly bulky, pump-action blaster with the typical ‘Zombie Strike’ aesthetic: neon green and orange body, pistol grip that looks like it’s wrapped with hockey tape, etc. The Ripchain’s namesake is the unique ‘chain’ ammo belt feeding mechanism, which loads up to 25 darts. It comes with 25 of the neon green zombie-themed darts, but can also load any standard-sized NERF blaster darts. But the best part? It has slamfire capability, so you can hold that trigger down and just keep slamming darts away, like a trench gun.
