Hornady Zombie Ammo… It’s Alive!

October 15th, 2011

Cheesy video (and disclaimer) aside, Hornady’s line of undead stopping rounds, called Zombie Max, are real. Just take a look at this sales sheet for further proof:

Hard to tell if this is a great victory for Zombie meta humor, or a cheap marketing gimmick. Either way, ammo is ammo I suppose.

Exercise Of The Week: Kettlebell Swing

October 12th, 2011

Kettlebells are arguably one of the most simple-and-effective exercise tools avaiable today. The foundation of working with kettlebells, the kettlebell swing, is a great exercise that builds lower body and core strength while improving cardiovascular fitness. Just remember to use proper form when doing this exercise, since it’s not uncommon to see even workout veterans doing their swings wrong.

October 12th, 2011

If you’re looking for a more high-brow portrayal of women handling firearms, then you might want to pick up a copy of ‘Chicks With Guns by Lindsay McCrum’. Designed and OEM manufactured by Strike Industries for Max Tactical Corp, the Guardian Muzzle Guard is a rubber cap that slides over any firearm with an A2 flash hider to keep dirt, dust, debris, and water from entering the barrel. Palladium Boots – Maharishi Tactical

October 7th, 2011

A collaborative effort between Palladium Boots and London-based fashion label Maharishi has led to the creation of the Maharishi Tactical boot. The Maharishi Tactical features an upper constructed from rubberized full grain leather and 2520 denier ballistic nylon. The side, collar and heel panels are made of Schoeller Dynatec, a specialty textile that consists of reflective threads and tiny reflective glass beads. This material reflects light and is visible up to 100 meters away. The boot also features a Dri-Lex moisture wicking lining for breathability and sweat control, a thick PU material sockliner, and a padded collar with red Maharishi branding on the inside. A nice boot all around, but does anyone else see a double-edged sword in that reflective material?

Official Blackwater Video Game Trailer

October 7th, 2011

This is the latest trailer for the officially licensed Blackwater video game. Features include ‘Blackwater real combat tactics’, officially-licensed weapons, and more that 25 different Kincect moves. I know the game’s main selling point is it’s Kinect compatible, but I really hope there’s a controller option; I’d like to spare myself the indignity of pulling the pin from an imaginary grenade with my teeth. Blackwater drops November 1st, 2011.

Syndicate Announcement Trailer

October 6th, 2011

Syndicate is an upcoming FPS being developed by Starbreeze Studios, who also worked on ‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena’ and ‘The Darkness’. It’s a reboot of an early 90’s real time strategy game of the same name, but its current iteration looks more like Deux Ex than Starcraft, which in my opinion is in no way a bad thing. I’d have to see more as the game gets closer to launch, but this trailer alone has me pretty excited already. Syndicate drops February 21st, 2012.

The Pr0n Psychological Warfare Campaigns Of World War II – NSFW

October 6th, 2011

One of the more interesting aspects of WWII PSYOPs you’re not likely to learn in school is the use of pornographic materials against the enemy. Thousands of leaflets featuring sexual content were used by both sides with the intent to demoralize the enemy. Despite their purpose, the leaflets apparently weren’t very effective; soldiers mostly used them for toilet paper. It’s also worth mentioning that they only accounted for about 1% of the total amount of propaganda leaflets. Still, I can respect a novel idea when I see it.

Rude Hand Gestures Of The World

October 3rd, 2011

Though it saddens me to say this, sometimes flipping the bird just doesn’t have the same impact abroad as it would in the good ole’ US of A. That’s why “Rude Hand Gestures of the World: A Guide to Offending without Words” by Romana Lefevre [with photographs by Daniel Castro] should be essential literature for every world traveler. Filled with detailed photographs of offensive hand gestrues along with tips on how to properly utilize them, you’ll be able to insult just about anyone you meet in any country you happen to be in. Just be sure to use your new found powers responsibly and only as a last resort. Some of these gestures go far beyond a simple ‘eff you’.

Preview – Tac Girl Of The Week

October 3rd, 2011

ALCON: You will no doubt be happy to know that Soldier Systems, in conjunction with Tactical Fanboy, good karma and the pagan gods of who favor hawt girls with guns will be featuring a Tac Girl of the Week. As you may already know, the Tac Girls calendar, from HBL Productions has since its inception paired attractive women up with kewl weapons. They are also a long-time supporter of American Snipers and other military charities. What you might not be aware of is the caliber (pun intended) of the women themselves, most of whom actually enjoy shooting. These aren’t girls selected just for their looks. There are Tac Girls models who shoot competitively, who are pursing their Master’s Degree, who run their own business – hell, one of them is now a United States Deputy Marshal! Stay tuned here for the upcoming feature, Tac Girl of the Week from the Tac Girls Calendar 2012.

LEGO Lancer

October 2nd, 2011

This is one of the more impressive LEGO projects I’ve seen on the internet: a working Lancer assault rifle from Gears of War. It’s life-sized and shares almost all the features of it’s fictional counterpart, including a removable box magazine, semi and full auto firing modes, a safety mechanism, and a functioning chainsaw(!). It’s ammo supply? Rubber bands, naturally.

AlphaDog

October 1st, 2011

Meet AlphaDog, Boston Dynamics’ latest load carrying quadrupedal robot. This nightmarish fusion of machinery and the souls of abandoned canines can carry a payload of up to 400 lbs on 20-mile missions in rough terrain. It’s also extremely good at reorienting itself, looking as pissed as something without a face can as it does so, and the kicks that threw its predecessor, BigDog, for a loop are completely ineffective; shoving still works, thankfully. While it still looks like a monster from Silent Hill, at least this model doesn’t sound like a swarm of evil bees. Also, it kinda looks like an ATAT, which is always cool.
