Ares Armor Company Promo Video

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

This excellent promo vid by Ares Armor Company showcases their products not by blatantly stating their intended uses, but by getting out in the field and using them. Ares’s full range of slings, packs, rigs and the EFFIN-A compensator are featured in full force, but not by name, forcing curious viewers to actually search for the items, which potentially drums up more interest. A smart move on Ares’s part that sets a new standard for promo vids.

Hot Shots Calendar iPhone Skins

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Coinciding with the release of the 2012 Hot Shots Calendar are these iPhone skins, made by Diablo Skinz. The central theme of the calendar is gaming, as you can see with the above image (protip: Lookit the CoD: Black Ops cover and compare). You can pre-order the calendar itself right now, and the skins will be available on the Hot Shots site September 1st.

Mission First Tactical Outbreak: Omega 4 Trailer

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Check out this trailer for the upcoming two-part series of Mission First Tactical attending the DPMS Outbreak: Omega 4 Zombie Shoot 2011. From the looks of the trailer, if you like the following: guns, bravado, a bit of humor and a fun shoot with plenty of zombie targets, then this is a video series worth checking out when its released.

Flower Grenades

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Have you recently seen a derelict lot or other bare, inaccessible land with a severe lack of vegetation? Then the solution just might be these Flower Grenades. Just toss a few of these into an area in desperate need of some flora and they shatter on impact, spreading soil and flower seeds such as buttercups, ryegrass and poppies, which will grow in a few weeks time (one week in the case of the ryegrass). And if someone might get touchy about you improving the scenery, don’t fret: the all-clay grenade bodies dissolve complete in the rain over a few days, erasing all traces of outside intervention. Guerrilla gardening at its finest.

Battlefield 3: Weapons Customization

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

The Battlefield series is finally getting on the customizable weapons bandwagon so prevalent in modern FPS’s (I’d say CoD 4 – onward has a huge part in this) with Battlefield 3. While it’s true that Bad Company 2 did introduce weapons optics and improved handling specializations, the selection was extremely limited when compared to similar games. Now, DICE has introduced a full range of attachments for your weaponry including optics, grips, and barrels, much like in the Medal of Honor reboot’s multiplayer, which they also designed. With this addition, Battlefield 3 is making even greater strides towards FPS of the Year, although as always there is some stiff competition to contend with.

Going The Extra Length For Your Cosplay At SDCC

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

Many people put a lot of time and dedication into making a kick-ass costume for the San Diego Comic Con, but is it possible that going that extra mile is actually going too far? Surprisingly, it can be, since on the very first day someone was caught using an actual AR-15 as a costume accessory. Although that’s fairly shocking news, I’m more interested in what costume the individual was wearing that they felt necessitated the use of a real firearm. My money’s on Rambo.

After the first day’s AR-15 incident, everything went smoothly. The second day, however, saw the confiscation of two machetes, a dagger, a KA-BAR knife and a lead pipe. Either they were dealing with some extremely dedicated cosplayers, or prevented the happenings of a Marvel vs. DC fan turf war. Maybe both.

Orange Peel Flame Thrower? Tell me more.

Monday, July 25th, 2011

See, oranges like to attract animals to eat the fruit so they’ll “pass along” the seeds so further generations of oranges can grow. Basically, the circle of life at work. However, not everything that eats oranges can and/or will pass along these seeds, namely mold and insects; they just like the sugar. So, in order to protect itself, the orange has a system of pouches in the peel that hold an oil. When a pouch is ruptured by, say, a hungry insect, the oil spurts forth and kills the intruder. It just so happens this oil is also flammable, so if you squeeze some on an open flame… well, I’m sure that’s self-explanatory.

tl/dr: Orange peel oil is flammable. Just watch the video above.

Just remember that Tactical Fanboy in no way, shape or form is condoning playing/experimenting with fire and/or potentially dangerous natural oils. It’s simply for entertainment purposes only.

G.I. Joe Camouflage

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

Did you see Dennis Quaid in ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ and notice that interesting camouflage pattern he was wearing? Although from a distance it looks a bit MultiCam-ish, the pants actually “…feature a traditional woodland pattern, as well as mixed digital squares and the G.I. Joe logo.”, the later of which is a neat little addition you can see in the image above. The official description came from PropStore.com, who is offering the General Hawk Abernathy uniform in its entirety.

Along with the Joe camo pants above, then set also comes with an Army Green XXL Under Armor shirt with the official G.I. Joe insignia and a tan belt with metal slide inclosure. Besides the uniform itself, the buyer gets a set of production tags that display the text “Hawks” and “Chng #5/Hero” and an official Certificate of Authenticity from Paramount Pictures. The only problem is, it ain’t cheap.

“Contagion”

Saturday, July 23rd, 2011

Where did this movie come from? There I was sitting in the theater waiting for Captain America, and along comes this trailer. It hits theaters September 8th and stars Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne and Sanaa Lathan. It’s a techno-thriller about a deadly virus and attempts to contain it. When I saw the trailer it reminded me of ‘The Andromeda Strain’; I almost thought it could be a remake until I saw the title.

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Established in 1999, SILLOF’s WORKSHOP offers custom-made action figures of alternative versions of characters from popular franchises, including Star Wars and DC Comics. Everything he makes is amazing, but if anything else, the Rocketeer-esque Steampunk Boba Fett, appropriately named Boden Ferrett, is a must have.

Leaked Battlefield 3 Alpha Footage

Thursday, July 21st, 2011

We’ve still got a bit of time before Battlefield 3 is released, and the open beta isn’t accessible until September. With actual gameplay footage being so sparse, how does one sate their curiosity for this highly anticipated sequel? Why, with leaked alpha footage of course! Check it out before it’s taken down. It looks pretty damn amazing.

Captain America Propaganda Posters

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

Commissioned by Mondo, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s collectible art boutique, this is one of a set of four promotional posters made for the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger. Created by Eric Tan and Olly Moss, the posters depict propaganda on the part of both Captain America and the main antagonist organization HYDRA. The posters are available in extremely limited quantities and apparently only at Comic Con, so if you’re not there, then you’re out of luck.

Vinoflage – Grape Leaf Camo

Monday, July 18th, 2011

Available from Francis Ford Coppola Winery, this unique camouflage pattern was developed by Anahid Nazarian, Director of the American Zoetrope Research Library, while working on a film for Coppola. She got the idea from observing various countries’ camouflage patterns. After noticing that several patterns featured shapes very similar to grape leaves, Nazarian decided it would be a fun idea to develop camo constructed entirely of a grape leaf pattern. Besides the available apron, shirts with this pattern were also made available to Chris Morisoli, a 1st Lieutenant formerly stationed in Iraq. Originally one was sent to 1st Lt. Morisoli in a care package from Nazarian sent on behalf of the Coppolas. He liked it so much, and so did the men in his unit, that they donated additional shirts so every one of his fellow Soldiers could also wear them.

Don’t forget to check out the Crazy Fanboy Blowout Sale currently available from Tactical Distributors. World’s Only Turbine Powered Batmobile

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

Built by Casey Putsch of Putsch Racing, this Batmobile is powered by a military spec 385 hp Boeing turboshaft engine from a naval drone helicopter driving the rear wheels through a semi automatic gearbox. It also features a custom tube frame/monocoque chassis with fully independent suspension, disc brakes, and a sequential shifter. It runs on kerosene, diesel, or jet fuel and has a power to weight ration comparable to a Dodge Viper. Thankfully, it’s very close in design to the 1989 Michael Keaton Batmobile, which is great, because that movie was actually watchable.

Master Blaster (Slow Mo Paintball SHOTGUN)

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

This video by Youtuber ‘CorridorDigital‘ shows the almighty power of a potato cannon that shoots paintballs, in slow-motion, courtesy of a high-speed camera. That disarm move near the end was pretty slick, too.

No Fossil Meta Watch For You (Until August)!

Friday, July 15th, 2011

These are the the Fossil Meta Watches, a pair of hi-tech timepieces, either in analog/digital hybrid or full digital with a larger memory-in-pixel LCD, that use Texas Instrument’s CC2560 Bluetooth radio to allow the user to access their email, check weather forecasts, and Facebook updates, among other features. Too bad they won’t be out until next month. This news came straight from Bill Geiser, vice president of Fossil Watch Technology, himself in response to a tweet by a curious customer. The delay is a shame, but either Meta Watch is cool enough to warrant the wait.

Shop At Crazy Fanboys

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

Last month, ADS, Inc held a garage sale. Even though the warehouse looked like it had been struck by a cyclone, at the end of the sale there was still a lot of really great kit left. Tactical Fanboy approached Tactical Distributors to purchase the best of what was left and hold a special liquidation sale for his readers. He went through the gear and picked out some great offerings that will appeal to users and collectors alike. Almost nothing is in UCP but rather Coyote and Tan. Additionally, with the exception of a couple of clothing items, everything is Berry compliant. Head on over and check it out. This is a one time good deal. Some of these products will never be available again, anywhere. With deals like these, he’s got to be crazy.

NEGLIGENT DISCHARGES HAPPEN!

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

This video by youtuber ‘derekgrebner87‘ AKA Tex Grebner shows that anyone can suffer from a negligent discharge. Tex may not have made the video for sympathy or to be ridiculed, but I couldn’t help but laugh a little. This was of course after wincing when that bullet entered his leg.

To his credit, he has pretty good reason as to how the negligent discharge happened. That’s why I stick with Glocks. There’s no chance to disengage the safety while drawing, unless you’re stupid enough to put your finger on the trigger pre-maturely.
