Rubber Band Minigun On Kickstarter

Tuesday, October 29th, 2019

The Rubber Band Minigun, a creation of Weaponized T-Rex, “a company which specializes in producing unique wooden goods”, is currently up for funding on Kickstarter. Featuring a CNC cut wood body, this M61 Vulcan-inspired rubber band gun is fully automatic and is powered by an onboard electric motor. It features 12 barrels with a maximum capacity of 144 shots, with a fire rate of 200 RPM and a range of up to 30 feet.

As shown in the image above, the Rubber Band Minigun can be had in either a pre-built or kit version, with no finish (bare wood) or with an acryclic black paint job.

At the time of writing, this project is just a bit below $400 shy of its funding goal, but with a project this cool, is that really a surprise?

The Outer Worlds Is Out Now

Saturday, October 26th, 2019

With Bethesda’s continued comical mishandling of the Fallout franchise, most recently being the myriad blunders of Fallout 76 killing any goodwill they had with the fanbase, leave it to Obsidian to release a true Fallout game in almost all but name with The Outer Worlds. Aside from Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, two of the original creators of Fallout, serving as directors for the game, it’s got expansive environments to explore, excellent writing, and a lot of dialog and skill checks that mean your stats actually matter – like the original Fallout games, and Fallout: New Vegas, which Obsidian also developed. In true CRPG fashion, the game even allows you the freedom to solve a great many of the game’s scenarios as you see fit, whether it be through diplomacy, stealth and subterfuge, or good ole’ fashion violence.

I’ve got about 19 hours in so far, and I’d guess I’m anywhere from 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through, and that includes doing every sidequest I’ve been able to discover. If you’re looking for a game to scratch that RPG itch, this one comes highly recommended.

Plus, it’s available on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, which I believe can be had for $1 for the first month for either Xbox One or PC, which is how I’m playing it.

Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019

For Immediate Release October 22, 2019

WEARE, NH – TANDEMKROSS is releasing a new product that will improve the shooting experience of any Ruger® 10/22®. The TANDEMKROSS “TripleKross” clear Magazine Body is perfect for competition shooters and recreational plinkers alike.

The lightweight construction of the “TripleKross” makes it ideal for travel and use. The clear, durable plastic allows the shooter to always have a clear idea of exactly how many rounds are readily available and which compartment is empty. This feature is especially useful for competitive shooters. As every fraction of a second is crucial, visually confirming the exact number of rounds available takes all the dreadful guesswork and hesitancy out of a sport based around speed and precision.

“The TripleKross is designed to keep 10/22® enthusiasts organized and engaged in their shooting activities. From transparency for round counts, less magazines to manage, belt clips for easy transport, and lightweight design, this new magazine body has a lot value for everyone.”
—Bryan Haaker, co-founder of TANDEMKROSS

The “TripleKross” Magazine Body comes with the clear magazine body and an oversized paddle capable of being attached to the shooter’s belt. Each magazine body has three compartments capable of holding the internal components of a BX-1 10-round rotary magazine for the Ruger 10/22 for a total combined capacity of 30 rounds. Since the magazine body is not one continuous magazine, but rather three separate magazines merged into one body, this part meets compliance in all 50 states.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail Black Knight Deluxe Talking Premium Motion Statue

Sunday, October 20th, 2019

Much beloved and endlessly quoted, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a favorite film of mine, and I’m sure many of you readers share that sentiment. Which is why it’s totally worth bringing up this Holy Grail Black Knight talking motion statue. Coming in a 7.5″ tall, the Black Knight has removable arms (sadly/thankfully without the comical blood spray), and speaks 10 phrases straight from the film:

”Tis but a scratch”
”I’ve had worse”
”Ohh, ohh I see, running away ehh?… you yellow Bastard!”
”Come back ‘ere and take what’s coming to you… I’ll bite your legs off!”
”s’alright, we’ll call it a draw”
”It’s just a flesh wound”
”Have at you!”
”I’m invincible!”
”I move for no man!”
”None shall pass, none shall pass!”

As good an addition to your collectables shelf or work table as any.

Available for pre-order from EntertainmentEarth, with a release date of January 2020.

BOOMco DXD58 HALO UNSC MA5 Blaster

Tuesday, October 8th, 2019

To my detriment, I haven’t been paying much attention to the Mattel BOOMco line of licensed Halo dart blasters, at least not since initially seeing them at San Diego Comic Con 2015. Which is a shame, too, because they’ve made some awesome additions to the line since then, such as this MA5 blaster. Based on the MA5 assault rifle from the Halo Series, this blaster feeds from a side loading 8-shot clip, and interestingly, it’s designed so that the user builds air pressure using the foregrip as a pump, and then the trigger can be held down to expend the entire clip in a full-auto fashion, which is pretty darn cool. It’s available in both blue and red, for team purposes.

BOOMco has also a Brute Spiker, which in the Halo games is an alien SMG of sorts that shoots molten hot spikes, and has dual blades that can be used to slash at enemies.

And even a blaster based on the M45D shotgun.

These and more BOOMco branded blasters can be found wherever Mattel products are sold.

ArmyCon: Where Virtual and Reality Meet

Monday, October 7th, 2019

FORT KNOX, Ky. — The U.S. Army is aiming to connect the gaming world to the military characters and equipment featured in many of today’s most popular games during the first-ever ArmyCon at the Army Ten-Miler Expo Park and D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C., Oct. 11-12.

ArmyCon will showcase high tech, warfighting capabilities with interactive displays and demonstrations. Individuals can test their skills as virtual warriors in the Mobile Gaming Semi-Trailer and then meet the real-life Soldiers face-to-face, equipped with all the associated gear and weaponry, in one action-packed area.

Spectators can test out robots, climb inside helicopters, and challenge their hacking skills. They can even get a close-up look at two new pieces of Army tech — the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle — Binocular and the Black Hornet Nano Unmanned Aerial System.

The ENVG-B’s are the Army’s most advanced night vision goggle, providing close combat forces with the capability to observe and maneuver weather conditions during limited visibility and enabling Soldiers to shoot around corners. The Black Hornet is a tiny drone that offers intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support.

“There are so many young people who don’t know what high-tech jobs the Army can offer or what Army life is like,” said Maj. Gen. Frank Muth, U.S. Army Recruiting commanding general. “ArmyCon is a prime opportunity for us to start the conversation about the professional jobs our Soldiers do.”

ArmyCon will feature the two new outreach teams created this year — the Army eSports Team and the Warrior Fitness Team. The esports team will host a “Twitch” gaming tournament inside of the U.S. Army Mobile Gaming Semi-Trailer, which features scorpion chairs and a variety of gaming platforms.

In addition to the new equipment and the gaming trailer, attendees will have a variety of Army assets to experience up-close and personal, including:

-Electric motorcycle
-Talon EOD robot
-Percussion explosive neutralization system
-Portable X-ray
-EOD blast suit
-Cyber Protection Team (demo cyber effects, display geo tagging effects with social media)
-Helicopters
-Stryker

Along with the equipment, attendees can meet Olympians from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, the Golden Knights Army Parachute Team, Rangers, Special Forces Soldiers, and more.

Hampton Roads Naval Museum Makes Final Preparations Prior to Re-opening

Sunday, October 6th, 2019

By Max Lonzanida, Public Affairs Officer, Hampton Roads Naval Museum

Norfolk, Va. –The gallery of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum will re-open, Oct. 9, following a transformation of more than 4,700 sq. ft. into a new immersive exhibit, The Ten Thousand-Day War at Sea: The US Navy in Vietnam, 1950-1975.

190920-N-TG517-728
NORFOLK, VA. (Sep, 20, 2019) A Vietnamese sampan, captured in 1968 by US Navy riverine forces, along with a diorama featuring a Patrol Boat Riverine gun tub are some of the artifacts that will be on display at a new exhibit at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. The exhibit, “The Ten Thousand Day War at Sea: the US Navy in Vietnam, 1950-1975” is scheduled to open on October 9, 2019. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released)

The exhibit represents the first major renovation of their gallery since 1994. Preparations for the conversion began in April, and this week, with the addition of almost 130 artifacts, the staff is making final preparations to open their doors to the public.

Using the U.S. Navy’s rich historical collections, multi-media presentations, and interactive components, visitors will experience the Navy’s pivotal role in the Vietnam War.

Choosing the right pieces to tell Navy’s Vietnam War story was critical to the exhibit’s creation. To guarantee that the visuals matched the museum’s intent, exhibit specialists collaborated with the Naval History and Heritage Command’s (NHHC) Curator Branch.

“We worked alongside with Hampton Roads Naval Museum staff to make certain we were telling a holistic story,” commented Jeff Bowdoin, Naval History and Heritage Command Curator Branch head. “Many people understand the riverine contributions to the war effort, though we must look beyond those operations. For instance the bullet fragment recovered from the USS Maddox represents an attack on a U.S. Navy destroyer that helped support the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution.”

190917-N-TG517-939
NOROFLK, Va. — A Vietnamese sampan, captured in 1968 by US Navy riverine forces, undergoes final surface cleaning and consolidation by Karl Knauer and Abigail Preston with the Naval History and Heritage Command’s Conservation Branch. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released)

One of the large artifacts visitors will have the opportunity to see is a 25-foot long sampan captured in 1968.

Sampans, flat-bottom boats that plied the waterways of the Mekong Delta transporting people and goods, were sometimes used to transport contraband weapons and supplies to aid the Viet Cong.

In 1968, riverine forces captured a 25-foot long sampan during Operation FLANKSPEED as it transported weapons, among other contraband. The Navy brought the open hulled sampan back to the U.S. and until now, it was in under management of NHHC’s Curator Branch.

Creating a new exhibit about the Vietnam War presented substantial opportunities for Hampton Roads Naval Museum to connect with Navy veterans. The museum recorded interviews with over forty-five Navy veterans of the war.

“Veterans of the Vietnam War did not receive a particularly hospitable homecoming,” said John Pentangelo, Hampton Roads Naval Museum director. “Many Americans wanted to forget the war and military service was not recognized the way it was before or since.”

Pentangelo also stated that the Navy’s contributions to the war are often overlooked in scholarship and popular culture. “While the artifacts were vital to the telling this story, the oral history program that preceded the exhibit fabrication really shaped the exhibit in a dynamic way,” he added, “Navy veterans were allowed to speak for themselves and provide visitors with the opportunity to make meaningful connections to our shared past.”

Hampton Roads Naval Museum will host a private ribbon cutting ceremony October 8 at 6 p.m. Media are invited to attend and should contact max.q.lonzanida@navy.mil for additional details. The exhibit opens to the public on October 9. During the three-year exhibit, The Hampton Roads Naval Museum aims to educate visitors about the U.S. Navy’s role in the Vietnam War.

Sacred Bones Records – Halloween “Target Practice” Poster

Thursday, October 3rd, 2019

In the article when I first brought up Chris Bilheimer’s ‘Target Practice’ art made for the Halloween 2018 soundtrack, and subsequently available on a t-shirt and enamel pin, I mentioned how it was unfortunate that it wasn’t available as an actual target. Well, it’s not quite there yet, however it is now available as an oversized, 23″x34″ stand-alone poster. At $15/ea, this isn’t one you’d buy just to shoot at the range, but it’d still be a cool wall piece.

The new Canik designed 15 round magazine features a grip extension module that allows the shooter to operate this firearm as a compact, giving the operator a multi-purpose pistol tunable to an ever-changing day to day landscape. The TP9 Elite SC has an MSRP of $429 and is available now.

Canik has already begun the process of creating a large number of accessories and add-ons that will soon be available to the US market. These additions will be available directly from Canik and will feature the same quality and dependability as the pistols themselves.
