Abraham Lincoln vs. Nosferatu

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Honest Abe’s mom was killed by some kind of supernatural creature, driving him to pursue a career of slaughtering vampires and their slave-owning allies. Who knew? It’s based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel.

Here’s a book review from a couple years back.

What’s up with 12 Days of Tactical Christmas?

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Well, we’ll tell you.  All of the manufacturers have been notified of our 12 Days of Tactical Christmas contest winners. These folks will have gone into the order queue, but please give them time to process and then ship your prizes. Some of the manufacturers will notify us (for instance, the 5.11 Tactical MOABs have already gone out, and the Blue Force Gear slings have either shipped already or will ship very shortly) but others will be caught up in their ops tempo and may not remember to do so. You are going to receive your prizes; thanks for participating in the contest! If you think that was cool, wait ’til you see what Tactical Fanboy, BOLO Report and Soldier Systems Daily are all doing for Christmas this year. It’ll be epic.

Zombie hearts for Valentine’s Day

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

Some sweets for zombies to celebrate. Anatomical hear cupcakes…hearts are better than brains, are they not?

Now if we could only get some for ourselves.

For Valentine’s Day: the Bulletproof Thong

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Nothing says I love you like a bulletproof thong. (They also have bulletproof wraps and regular bulletproof bikinis, if she doesn’t like dental floss defining her ass.) Note: absent the documentation of a proper ballistic test, we wouldn’t recommend you wear these skivvies to a gunfight.

New MilSpec Monkey Hat is live!

Saturday, February 11th, 2012

Need a new hat? Want a new hat even if you don’t need it? The new MilSpec Monkey mesh variant GG-Hat is now live on the MSM store. It’s built to shed heat for “desert dwellers” or those of you who are slowly cooked in the humidity of summer along the third coast. The foundation is a FlexFit cap with the top rivet removed and hook-and-loop sewn on.

The front panel is approx 4″ x 3″ and the rear is 3″ x 3″ with a 5.5″ x 1″ strip at the bottom for name tapes. There is even a 2″ x 2″ diamond up top for those of you who are so high speed low drag and important you need IR tabs. The Monkey mentions it in the description, but we’ll reiterate it: this design gives good functionality without looking like you’re wearing a Velcro wig. There is a lanyard attachment point on the bottom too, should you need it for whatever reason. Pay attention to the sizing details.

It is our contention that all new SOF characters in the next Modern Warfare and Battlefield incarnations should wear these (and maybe use some RAMPS: more on that later).

Real Samurai doin’ some work

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

Isao Machii is something to see with a sword (though he’s so fast you really don’t see it, so to speak). Stan Lee (who we love) told us about him first. Then we found out he taught the Mad Duo (or so they claim) the week before they learned grappling from Ryan the Yeti and that just really made him a lot cooler. Seriously, if you’ve never heard or watched Isao Machii work, you need to.

Watch the video of the holster being demonstrated at SHOT.

Securing your real steel

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

A lot of TFB readers shoot real steel. Many of you are current or former military, a surprising number of you have concealed carry licenses (which we think is great, so we’re clear). One question that frequently arises is the issue of securing a weapon. One of the places we follow is the Personal Defense Network. Here’s a suggestion on their part for one security option.

Evil Siri…

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Here’s a different take on Siri. Watch that iPhone, it’s worse than walking backwards after dark during a horror movie.

Everything is better with Tom Selleck’s mustache on it

Monday, February 6th, 2012

There’s really no way to comment on the penultimate awesomeness of this. It is so epic than any offering on our part would be banal and superficially useless.

We await official commentary from the American Mustache Institute.

The Best of Eye Handy

Monday, February 6th, 2012

Eye Handy has released its first “Best Of” video. Very nice indeed. We highly recommend this self-help series to learn how to do all sorts of things (as we should have made abundantly clear over the last few days).

You need to make some Jello shots for the Superbowl party today? Plan on having a legion of nubile college coeds cheer for you, or just want something besides beer?

This young lady will help.

Gonna skip the Jello and stick with a beer keg? We can help you with that too.

So I Married an Irhabist Militant

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

Hate Real Shallow and Vacuous Housewives of Different Cities? Us too. Here’s something a little different.

Foreign Islamist fighters poured into Somalia back in ’06 when the Ethiopian military moved in to assist former president Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed.  They were happily greeted by al-Shabaab and integrated into much of Somali society, though in August of last year many of them were expelled from Mogadishu after heavy fighting with AMISOM and TFG forces.

Somalia Report has an interview with Shuuto Juuni Mohamed, the wife of one of these fighters. Though her father says she was brainwashed, the 20-year old woman remains loyal to her banished jihadist husband.

It’s an interesting read.

Read the story on Somalia Report.

Operation Savior, from AEX

Friday, February 3rd, 2012
Help save a life with Airsoft Extreme. They’re sponsoring a special operation on February 18th for Michelle Smith.

AEX Skull smallMichelle is married to Matt Smith.  Matt Smith has been a long standing member of the airsoft community who has put forth an immense amount of work over the years, but has remained silent, humbly in the background doing work for the community that few have ever know, but all have seen. This Gentleman has created the very image of the airsoft community in the Bay Area (where AEX is headquarterded with a number of organizations that make the Bay Area airsoft community what it is today.  Matt Smith is a close friend of AEX and many others in the airsoft community.   He came to them with a need, a need that is not for him, but for his wife and a need that no one would want to face.  Michelle needs a heart and double lung transplant.

Reader Guest Blog: “FROM DUST!” Says Sherman

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

ALCON: We’re going to periodically feature some guest blogs from our readership (assuming they can write somewhat intelligently

Tactical Fanboy: FROM DUST, by Ubisoft

about something our audience would enjoy…which pretty much is guns to movies to video games to boobs real and imagined…) The first installment of Reader Guest Blog comes to you from the convoluted and somewhat Escher-print-like gray matter of Isaac Sherman, the author of Pygmalion’s Geas (a blog we only rarely understand). He is also, for those of you who follow the Mad Duo, a contributor to Breach-Bang-Clear. Isaac is going to talk about a game today. Hopefully none of the words are too big.

FROM DUST!  says Isaac Sherman. Try it.

After logging an obscene amount of time playing Skyrim, I came across this game on Steam. Just 5 USD and it looked like just my style. What’s not to like about being a pagan god with gozillions of minions?

It’s called From Dust, by Ubisoft, and I figured, “Why not?  It’s less than lunch at Applebee’s.”  Of course, I only eat at Applebee’s on Veteran’s Day because it’s free for military (it’s really not that good), but the logic seems sound.  Just a few days ago it was on sale for 66% off the regular price of $15 (FYI, those Steam guys are great for selling gems at a huge discount, it’s worth taking a peak every now and again if you’re not already ware of it.)  Oh and yes, for clarity’s sake, this was on the PC.

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Airsoft GI is less than four thousand Facebook Likes away from giving away a KWA KRISS Vector GBB SMG. You could be one of the first people in the world to own one, and you won’t even have to pay for it. Just gotta go out, spread the word and make sure all of your FB friends like their page.

New AFT video up

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Epic Car Key Peehole Destruction is the new video from Action Figure Therapy. (Warning: Language, duh.)

“If everything goes according to plan should have a new Ranger, Chavez and Jungle video up by tomorrow at noon,” Action Figure Therapy says. “If it doesn’t we’ll probably just get drunk on box wine from Costco and go skinny dipping in a fountain at the nearest outdoor mall. Because that’s what Jungle would do.”

SHOT Show 2012: More on Combat Flipflops

Wednesday, February 1st, 2012

SSD has followed the development of Combat Flipflops pretty much since the beginning. (You may recall the picture of their SHOT Show debut on Tactical Mama’s feet.) In any case, they are cruising right along, expanding their product line and providing impressive assistance to the Afghans working at their factory. At first blush it might seem strange, getting behind “flip-flops” made in Afghanistan, but the guys helping the HNs making this happen are incredibly passionate about it. Think about it…there will be just a limited market for the ANA combat boots they started making. Once that’s done, then what? Here’s a viable way to support the indigenous economy, help train skilled workers and give them an opportunity to $10-a-bomb IED planting or narcotics cultivation. I was really impressed by these guys and am looking forward to SSD readers getting to learn more by dint of the Combat Flipflop Whiskey-5 (which will be coming soon).

Soldier Systems: Tactical Mama sportin' her Combat Flip Flops on the floor at SHOT.

Griff says they have some new models coming down the pike, including Jingle Trucks (So Loud You’ll Hear Them Coming), the Burkhas (Ladies Only) and the Technicals (Utilitarian footwear with heavy weapon embellishments). You can watch for the latest developments on the Combat Flip Flops Facebook page.

In the meantime check out the pictures they’ve posted on their production facility in Afghanistan on the Combat Flip Flops website.

Real Steel Blu-ray reviewed over on UTR

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

Under the Radar ran a review by the Mad Duo today, covering the recent extended Blu-ray version of Real Steel. Not sure why they’re doing more there and on other sites than their own, but if you haven’t seen that movie (or even if you have) you might get a laugh out of the write-up. Or not.

Tell you one thing they’re right about for sure. Having some of those robots cammied up and equipped for a mission with USSOCOM would be a bad ass sequel.

Read the review.
