The Devils of Kildare

Saturday, March 17th, 2012

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Figured since today is often celebrated in honor of the Patron Saint of Ireland we’d talk about some of Ireland’s more dangerous men – the Fiannóglach, or “Devils of Kildare.” The Irish Rangers.

Now somewhat analogous to our Combat Action Group (CAG), the British SAS, French GIGN, etc, they began as a cross-training exchange program with our 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Benning. The full spectrum of special operations/counter-terror role within the Irish Defense Force is now fulfilled by the ARW, Irish Army Air Ranger Wing, or Fiannóglach. There’s no literal English translation from the Gaelic, so the proper term for one of their operators is Ranger. They wear a tab much like the Ranger scroll that says FIANNOGLACH.

The Fiannóglach divide all operations into green (traditional special forces, recon, direct action, Foreign Internal Defense) or black (counter-terrorist, counter-espionage, high value target direct action, etc.). They are garrisoned in Curragh Camp, County Kildare (hence the nickname Devils of Kildare). Their motto is Glaine ár gcroí, neart ár ngéag agus beart de réir ár mbriathar: in English, the cleanliness of our hearts, the strength of our limbs and our commitment to our promise.

Bob’s at it again

Friday, March 16th, 2012

This guy is almost clever enough to make us believe he’s been hangin’ around with us. Not quite, but close. UTR previousl reported that Bob Riggle was doing some bad ass spokesmanning (we just made that up, deal with it). He’s actually done more than one Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 video. Here’s another. Yeah, i’s been a while and maybe you’ve seen it. So f-in what? Watch it again.

Tactical Fanboy: A Resounding Call for Call of Duty Elite

Now, did you know he was the guy who killed Bin Laden? You should. That’s a pretty significant achievement.

How do you get this party started? Elite!

How do you kick more ass? Elite!

How do you get more UUUHH? Elite!

How do you get more swagger in your wager? Elite!

How do you piss off a terrorist? Elite!

How do you break up withy our fiancée? Elite!

How do you disappoint your mom? Elite!

How do you confuse your dad? Elite!

What rhymes with dead meat? Elite!

Wanna learn more about Bob Riggle, or just drop him a line and tell him he oughta do an interview with the Swingin’ Dick Kilgore and Slim? Check out his website. Riggle’s a Light Colonel, USMC, who served in Liberia, Kosovo and Afghanistan. He earned the Combat Action Ribbon and has several unconfirmed hippie kills. He wants to chill with us, he just don’t know it yet.

One other thing: we’ve told those of you who aren’t hippies, sissies, fans of Olberman or horny for Joy Behar to join us on Facebook (especially if you pull a trigger for a living). Some of you haven’t done so yet. That’s your prerogative, but here’s some food for thought. We saw this assclown stealing from a blue-hair in a Korean War hat last week, and read his tattoo.

You can see what we thought of it. Wanna reconsider your reluctance to join us? (Notice we used a cheap knife and not one of the ones Darrel Ralph made us. See, we’re like walking metaphors for smart badassery. Living icons of the thinking man’s slaughter…and nearly as humble as we are good looking.)

More to follow. We’re off to help Ron Jeremy and Jack Murphy with a how-to video (separate videos, in case you’re worried, not all at once).

The BAD-ASS

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Looking for an ambi-selector for your AR? Battle Arms Development several ambidextrous selector variants, with five lever options. All are CNC machined ambidextrous selector and levers, with included KNS Precision selector detent. BADASS: Battlefield Arms Development Ambidextrous Safety Selector. They’re for AR15s and the like, and will shortly be available for the MP15-22.

“MP15-22 has a reversible selector, but reversible isn’t ambidextrous. Soon 15-22 owners can outfit their 15-22s like their high powered cousins and train with similar controls,” says BAD.

Note: currently non-dovetailed selectors are back ordered, but only for a few days. They do have the dovetailed, BAD-CASS-SA (Combat Ambidextrous Safety Selector, Semi Auto) in stock and available. Also, since mid-February, all selectors have shipped with two extra screws and an extra selector detent spring. If you’re like me, that’s good news, I can’t hang on to a damn thing smaller than a bowling ball for any length of time.

Battle Arms Development is on Facebook and of course has a homepage.

Go Tell the Spartans

Friday, March 16th, 2012

I’m a huge fan of BattleComp. I’m one of the many who’ve suffered the ‘Startled BattleComp Tourette’s Syndrome’ on the range the first time I used one.

Anyway, this photo is courtesy of Kevin Mah of BattleComp. I thought it would make a cool poster.

Medal Of Honor Warfighter Announcement Trailer

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

Check out this announcement trailer for the upcoming Medal of Honor Warfighter, the sequel to 2010’s Medal of Honor. If its anything like its predecessor, Warfighter will be the perfect blend of action and realism set in actual modern day conflicts. Its also worth mentioning that Danger Close, the developer, will be handling multiplayer duties along with the campaign this time around, and the game is running on the latest version of Frostbite 2 instead of a modified Unreal 3 engine.

Medal of Honor Warfighter drops October 23, 2012.

Morale Patch of the Week: Warrior Labs

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Warrior Laboratories is a gear review site that covers gear in such varied categories as Vests and Plate Carriers, K-9 Gear and Sharp and Pointy Things. (I enjoy the latter category most, largely because of the name.) The staff of Warrior Laboratories appear to be law enforcement, with a strong background in tactical operations, K9 operations, firearms instruction and (off duty) outdoor pursuits. You might check ’em out.

In the meantime, I’m grooving on this new PVC patch they released, courtesy of Combat Swag. In addition to their website you can find Warrior Laboratories on Facebook.

Hat tip to BOLO Report.

Double Barrel 1911?!?

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Presenting the AF2011-A1 “Second Century”, a double barrel 1911*. According to Arsenal Firearms, the AF2011-A1 can keep a grouping the size of an orange at 15 yards and the size of a watermelon at 25 yards. Although it boasts a number of unique parts, such as a single slide and single spur double hammer, the firing pins, the firing pins plates, the sears groups, the triple springs, the inner parts of the mainspring housings, the recoil springs and recoil springs rods, the magazine bodies and inner parts, the sights, the grips and grips screws and bushings are all interchangeable with a standard 1911. Additionally, the AF2011-A1 can be customized with either 2 independent triggers and one sear group or with 2 triggers permanently joined and the choice of 1 or 2 sear groups. As for choice of colors, it can be ordered in a mirror finish Deep Blue or with a 3400 Vickers surface hardness White Ash Nitrite coating.

Part of me wants to make fun of it, and part of me wants one really bad.

Dart Blaster Tactial Rail Clip Holder On Kickstarter

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

Random Hat, LLC is a small, two-person company located in Hastings, MN that’s looking to break into the world of 3rd-party Nerf accessories. Their first idea is for the ‘Dart Blaster Tactical Rail Clip Holder’ seen above. It connects to the dart magazine via a Velcro strap, allowing one to attach said magazine to any of the picatinny-esque rails featured on many of the more recent Nerf blasters. They only have until Saturday, March 24th to reach their (admittedly high) goal of $20,000, so don’t don’t wait to long to donate if you feel the project is worth it.

Legion Firearms bringing Dark Angel to Texas

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Legion Firearms is hosting Kerry Davis and his Sig Sauer Academy “Bullets & Bandages” course towards the end of March. There are a few slots remaining in the course, and Legion is offering a free billet in the class to the first person who enrolls three people in the course (class cost is normally $500 per billet) as well as a free Direct Action Response Kit (D.A.R.K.) in coyote tan. (Kit Up recently ran a brief overview of the D.A.R.K. if you’re interested.)

Contact Legion at info@legionfirearms.com regarding your entries and their names to take advantage of the contest offer.

Kerry Davis, the progenitor of the D.A.R.K. and the chief Bullets and Bandages instructor has 21 years in trauma medicine and is a seasoned firearms instructor. He started out in the Air Force, was assigned to a specialty medic unit that worked with the 82ND ABN, went on to become a civilian paramedic and then to nursing school. He’s been a trauma/ER for approximately the last decade (tonight he talked to Soldier Systems Daily after a 14 hour day at the ER).

Friday, March 9th, 2012

On a highway in SW Oklahoma, between Ft. Sill and Altus AFB, there occasionally roams a pickup truck that once said I Love My Horse on the window. It doesn’t anymore, which makes the current message must more entertaining.

This also has nothing to do with Kony.

Gratuitous hot girl with guns. Not much Kony.

Thursday, March 8th, 2012

Need a break from all the sudden popularity of the transient Kony give-a-damns? How about some zombie-fightin’ help.

Sometimes the best thing you need to fight a zombie apocalypse is a fine derriere and tight britches.

So I’m clear, the institution of child soldiers is horrific. I won’t be impressed with anyone’s sincerity until they’ve been this enthused about righting such wrongs a month or three from now. Oh, and not until they figure out he’s not in Uganda anymore…and when they realize stuff like this happens in more than one place and all of them are worth fighting against.

In the meantime, help us figure out where she stores her mags and frags.
