How Kim Jong Il Really Died – Action Figure Therapy (NSFW)

Monday, December 19th, 2011

I think we all knew that Kim Jong’s heart attack was just a North Korean government media coverup, but I never would have guessed it was Jungle Recon’s mighty Syphilis that did ‘im in.

Glowbar

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

The Glowbar is a high-carbon steel crowbar that also happens to glow in the dark! Each Glowbar is coated in a Silicate-Aluminium-Oxide-based powder that glows up to ten times brighter than conventional glow in the dark items. It’s available in 12″ and 24″ versions, with 2% of profits going to the EFF, a non-profit that fights for technological freedom. Also available is the Glowbar T-shirt, and the company says they’ll be making more tools with the hyper-phosphorescent powder coating in the near future.

MS ONE Maximum Security

Saturday, December 17th, 2011

MS ONE Maximum Security (previously titled as ‘Lock-Out’) is an upcoming sci-fi thriller, staring Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace. It’s written and produced by Luc Besson, and takes place in the year 2079 where a man wrongly convicted of conspiracy against the United States must rescue the President’s daughter from a prison controlled by escaped convicts… in space! Sounds like a winner to me!

MS ONE drops April 13th, 2012.

GUNDOG

Friday, December 16th, 2011

GUNDOG by 39 Degrees North is a tribute to the good old days when action movie terrorists were Eastern European and grizzled detectives played by their own rules (and saved Christmas).

This Is My Lightsaber

Designed by 6amChris and available on redbubble, this t-shirt print puts a Star Wars twist on the traditional Rifleman’s Creed while also featuring Darth Vader’s lightsaber and the Empire’s symbol. There’s also a Luke Skywalker/Rebel Alliance version, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Gravity Gun Replica

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Harrison Krix of Volpin Props developed this replica Gravity Gun for the purpose of auctioning it at a dinner benefiting Child’s Play, a charitable organization. In the words of the creator, his last piece “…fetched a little more than twice what my car is worth…”, so it’s not hard to imagine the price will definitely be above what many would consider reasonable. But hey, it’s for charity, right? Plus, the Gravity Gun is from Half-life 2; greatest FPS ever, anyone?

Weapons Of Mass Creation

Friday, December 9th, 2011

The ‘Weapons of Mass Creation’ series is a set of prints by Justin Kamerer of Angryblue that each feature items related to a subject which form the contents of a different weapon: ‘Music’, ‘Cooking’, and ‘Art’ are a tank, grenade, and bomb, respectively. The prints are available for individual sale or as a set, and are limited to 150 pieces each. They’re pretty damn cool looking regardless of any message the artist may or may not have been trying to convey.

A-TACS In Star Wars?

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

They may have existed a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, but it seems the Rebel forces were a bit ahead of the curve with the camouflage they used on Endor.

Thanks to a reader for the tip.

Stormtrooper Motorcycle Suit

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

From UD Replicas comes the most awesome motorcycle suit ever come from a galaxy far, far away. The Stormtrooper Motorcycle Suit is made from grade-A cowhide and features CE-approved body armor in the shoulders, forearms/elbow, back spine protector, thighs and knee/shin which is easily removable for day-to-day wear. The jacket and pants zip together, converting the suit into a one-piece unit, while raised rib detailing on the sleeves, shoulders, legs, torso and midsection perfectly replicate the look of rigid armor. Above is Shadow Trooper black (it’s an Expanded Universe thing; Google it for more info), although the classic Imperial White is also available for those purists out there. For those interested, you’re better off getting your order in soon: sales close January 31st of next year, and the sets are limited to only 500 suits combined. Now if only someone would make a TIE Fighter-themed bike…

Tactical Fanboy Gift Idea #10: The Guardian From Big Trouble In Little China

Saturday, December 3rd, 2011

The Guardian by Mike Graham of Zombie Monkey is a great gift for anyone who’s a huge fan of the John Carpenter classic ‘Big Trouble in Little China’. For those who don’t know, The Guardian was the eyes and ears for Lo Pan, the main antagonist, in his vast underground lair. Also, Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) shot it, so that has to count for something, right? Personally, I always got a Beholder vibe from this thing, minus the capacity to completely destroy any high level party that happens upon it. Anyway, it’s roughly the size of a human head, is made from over five pounds of Magic Sculpt putty and a Mega Munny head, and will set you back $500. Remember how I said “…for anyone who’s a huge fan…”?

Zombie Attack Barbie!

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

This clever image shop by Sarah Anne Langton of Secret Arctic Base shows exactly how awesome a Barbie doll would be if the Zombie craze happened five decades earlier. Throw a few of those Zombie Ken dolls in the mix, and you’d have the ultimate playtime doomsday scenario, just with more pink and effeminate, formerly-living boyfriends. Now with grenades!

Gorillaz Special Edition Converse Chuck Taylors

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Coming February 2012, Converse will be releasing special edition Chuck Taylors based on cartoon hip-hop/electronic band The Gorillaz. Four prints will be available, all taken from artwork done by Jamie Hewlett, co-creator of the band. Appropriately enough (for this blog, anyway) the only print images released so far are of the camouflage seen on the ‘Geep’ featured on the cover of the band’s self-titled debut album. They’ll be available internationally from select retailers and online stores and will retail for approximately 60 USD.

Sara Ahrens OffBeat: Corner Shot

Sunday, November 27th, 2011

If you watch Top Shot at all, you probably remember Sara Ahrens. She is a patrol sergeant with the Rockford (IL) Police Department and appeared on Top Shot Season 3. Recently she had occasion to try out the “Corner-Shot”, an oft-maligned and largely piece of kit. Here opinion is below. It’s interesting that she very politely points out where someone showed a lack of understanding towards the specificity and niche use of the Corner Shot. Was it truly a lack of understanding? Yes, it certainly was. You can be really good at something and still be ignorant of others. Many of us have been shooters, some in Tier One, high end units. We absolutely respect that, but that doesn’t make any of us the grand master of tactics. Blithely disdaining a piece of equipment, or a TTP, without taking into account the context in which it is intended to be used, is just foolish.

Tactical Facepalm

Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Doesn’t matter how good you are. How smooth, how well rehearsed, how fast your mag changes are or how far you can throw the frag. Your mental acuity under stress can be awesome, your ability to analyze a emergent threat within the context of any particular operating environment or condition. You can ninja your way through the chokepoints assaulting the Grand Bazaar like it’s cool, and nothing comes near you. You can clear Interchange by yourself with one revolver, two pocket knives and bottle of moisturizing lotion.

Doesn’t matter how good you are. Sometimes you bollock it up. Sometimes some jackass kills Soap and ruins the game for you. Sometimes you need…the tactical facepalm.

Max Payne 3 – Creating a Cutting Edge Action-Shooter

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

This trailer for Max Payne 3 showcases the technical aspects of the game, including the use of the Euphoria engine for realistic character movement and individually modeled bullets, to create a well-crafted and cinematic experience. Bullet time hasn’t looked this good since the original Max Payne came out. Or the first Matrix movie. Take your pick.

Sideshow Collectables Video Game Weapon Replicas

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Sideshow Collectables is offering prop replicas of the COG Snub Pistol from Gears of War 3 and the M8 Avenger Assault Rifle from Mass Effect 3, both manufactured by TriForce. The only thing more staggering than the quality and detail, however, is the prices: $399.99 and $649.99, respectively. I could go into my usual tirade about how one could buy a real firearm for the money instead, but these were clearly intended for a different market. It’s also worth mentioning that both replicas are limited to a 500-piece run, so if you’re interested you better pre-order soon.

GoPro HERO NVG Mount

Monday, November 21st, 2011

One category where the GoPro HERO series of cameras excels is in their wide variety of mounting options, which includes the GoPro NVG Mount. With it, one can easily attach either the HERO or HERO2 to any helmet with a Night Vision mounting plate, allowing them to record excellent footage without installing any additional mounts on their equipment.
