The Crovel

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

The Crovel, which is a portmanteau of shovel and crowbar, bares at the very least a passing resemblance to the Chinese Multifunctional Shovel in both aesthetics and functionality, but is made in the USA. The Crovel works as a shovel, crowbar, hammer, bottle and can opener, and grappling hook, among other uses. The shovel head is made from 10 gauge hardened steel while the handle is a 19 inch goose head crowbar with a 1.5 x .75 inch hammer face. The handle is also wrapped in 15 feet of 550 paracord, which offers an enhanced grip, but can also be used as a survival material. All we need now is a Youtube video of several American soldiers showing off all this tool’s features set to epic music and we’d be in business.

You can order The Crovel from survivaloutdoorgear.com.

iPad 2: Will It Fit In Your Pants?

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

A question I’m sure we’ve all been asking is which pair of tactical pants will fit an iPad 2. Even if you haven’t, Tactical Pants Blog took it upon themselves to answer this burning question, and the results are quite clear: if you own a pair of the discontinued Blackhawk! Warrior Wear pants, then you also have the distinct honor of owning a back pocket large enough to hold an iPad 2.

Sure, you can’t sit down, but simply pulling the iPad out before descending solves that issue. After all, if you don’t have your iPad in your hands at all times while in a state of rest, then why even own one?

However, if you missed out on the perfect iPad 2 carrier, don’t fret. Genuine Gear’s Lightweight Tactical Pants and Kitanica’s Lightweight Tactical Pants are almost as good. Of course, you could always take a third option and buy a tactical bag to put your much treasured Apple product in, but that’s just me.

OBL’S Send Off Song

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Just Plain Breakfast, a radio show on Jacaranda 94.2, a South-African radio station, played a parody of the song ‘Summer Nights’ from Grease detailing the events of his assassination. Pretty funny stuff, especially when the line detailing OBL trying to escape on a donkey comes up. You can listen to the song here.

Thanks to Riaan Rossouw for the tip.

Micro-Plus EX 9-In-1 Multi-Tool

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

This multi-tool by Swiss+Tech features nine tools and folds into a compact size that fits on a key chain. It features, pliers, a wire cutter, wire stripper, wire crimper, bottle opener, and both #1 and #2 flat and Phillips head screwdrivers, which meet ANSI standards. The Micro-Plus EX also features Swiss+Tech’s patented quick release mechanism and is constructed entirely from stainless steel. For the price, this isn’t a bad option if you’re looking for a decent multi-tool, although the lack of a blade and a few other multi-tool standbys is a noticeable flaw.

You can get the Micro-Plus EX from thinkgeek.com.

Gundam Hawaiian Camo Shirt

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

This July, Japanese character apparel store Cospa will be offering Hawaiian shirts with designs featuring characters from popular anime. What really caught my interest is the Camouflage Zaku Hawaiian Moss shirt seen above, which features a Zaku suit concealed in a jungle. The shirts are 100% rayon and will cost around $91. Kinda expensive, but the fanboys will pay. Not me though; I’m a Tactical Fanboy, not a Gundam one.

FireFall – PvP At Sunken Harbor

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

The Stellar Ponies? Really? Well, semi-laughable team name aside (Blood Falcons, by contrast, is pretty bad-ass) they can do some serious damage. The footage is from the upcoming free-to-play online MMO shooter FireFall. Intentional or not, I’m getting some major Team Fortress 2 vibes, especially from that Medic class. The game doesn’t come out until Winter, but it’s already looking to be a worthwhile experience for the price [read: free].

Check out justin.tv/r5studios this Friday, May 6th, for a live broadcast of FireFall.

BreachBangClear.com Shooting Drill Of The Month – May 2011 “Step Back Evil Anti-American Zombie Drill”

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Mad Duo has decided to start a series of shooting drills, the first of which offers a target of a very Anti-American Zombie. This particular drill is available via PDF format on breachbangclear.com, and the collective [read: you] have been given full rights to use it for personal training applications. Remember proper firearms safety and handling while training, and that with zombies, headshots are always king. Have fun!

Major thanks to BreachBangClear.com for making this target and drill.

NMAWorldEdition Does Osama’s Assassination – NSFW

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

NMAWorldEdition’s take on the Assassination of Osama Bin Laden. It’s as horribly inaccurate as it is extremely entertaining, virgin pig rape and all. Gotta love that Taiwanese craziness 🙂

Thanks to PredatorBDU for the tip.

EDIT: It seems sometime after the article was written that the video was made private. I’m sure a quick internet search will yield some positive results for those interested parties who want to see the vid in question. It’s worth a look.

Doomsday Bunkers

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Harkening back to the days of the Cold War and the backyard fallout shelter, there’s been a recent insurgence of people building and/or purchasing space in doomsday bunkers. Companies, like Vivos, charge upward to $50,000 per head for a secured residence in one of many pre-built underground shelters, and that’s only if you apply (and qualify) for membership first. There are other options as well, including shelters modeled after WWII-era “Anderson Shelters”, which can be built for as little as $500.

To me, it just seems like another way to profit off people’s fear, but who knows? Maybe having a backyard disaster shelter isn’t such a bad idea. You never know when those giant radscorpions, feral ghouls, and super mutants will come knocking.

Ultimate 2011 Summer Movie Trailer

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

I figured you would all get a kick out of this super trailer showcasing all the big movies coming out this Summer. It looks like I’ll be spending a lot of time staring at the big screen in the coming months.

And The Winner Is…

“Bagram Airfield, Parwan Province; 2011 – Crye, the Multicam Police Dog, catches a new airman who didn’t get the memo.”

Congratulations, Shane! Thanks for the hilarious caption. I’ll get that patch out to you ASAP.

Everyone else, thanks for participating. Stay tuned for more chances to win something cool!

Camo Candy

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

Kimmie Candy Co. is debuting ChocoRocks Camouflage Candy Tubes at the SWEETS & SNACKS EXPO in Chicago, IL this month. Each 3 oz. tube is filled with chocolate chunks coated in green, black, and brown candy shells, giving the mix of candy a woodland-esque look. Also, they’re certified kosher, for those interested. The expo is late this month, so I wouldn’t expect to see them until this Summer.

The Chinese Entrenching Tool

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

This may prove to be the most entertaining 8:46 of your life, or the most terrifying if you consider the Chinese hoard all armed to the teeth with these shovels. It slices, it dices, it juliennes. Truth be told, a couple of the features such as the “scissor” and nail puller are pretty cool, but music and effects make this one worth the price of admission. Make sure you stay long enough to see the entrenching tool museum.

Fanboy note: Where can I get one of these?

Bike Repair

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

I’ll admit I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to something like fixing a bike, and looking for whatever your problem is on the internet can be a pain in the ass. That’s why apps like Bike Repair by Atomic Softwares exist. It has an answer for almost every common issue a bike rider could experience, coupled with step-by-step instructions on how to fix it. These instructions include full-color images of bikes with textual overlays detailing each step as well as what tools you’ll need. It’s not a bad option if you ride your bicycle frequently, but don’t want to pay for a potentially costly repair at a bike shop when you yourself could do a simple repair.

Bike Repair is available for iOS and Android.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Theatrical Trailer

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Transformers 3 Dark Of The Moon Theatrical Trailer from Michael Bay Dot Com on Vimeo.

I know it’s a lot to get excited about a movie just because of the trailer. After all, that’s the whole point of a trailer. But if the rest of the movie is at least semi-watchable, I think it will be worth it just to see these action scenes again on the theater screen with digital sound blaring all around me. Michael Bay may have outdone himself with this one.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon arrives in theaters July 1st, 2011.

Arizona Second State To Have An Offical State Firearm

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Awhile ago, I announced that Utah chose the M1911 as their official state firearm. Now, Arizona has followed suit, choosing the Colt Single Action Army as their official state firearm. Governor Jan Brewer passed the bill on Thursday. It was chosen because of the revolver’s extensive use during Arizona’s territorial days. The only question that remains is if other states will follow the trend of picking official firearms. Only time will tell.

Thanks to AZCentral for the original story.

Monster Rehab

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

I recently cracked open my first Monster Rehab, an energy drink described as “Tea+Lemonade+Energy” on the can. Based on taste alone, it’s not too inaccurate to describe it as an ‘Energy Arnold Palmer’. You’ve got that slightly tart, slightly sweet tea taste of an Arnold Palmer, combined with a slight hit of “Rehab Energy Blend”, and it’s not carbonated. As a nice little bonus, this lemony-liquid is only 10 calories per serving [about 2 servings per 15.5 oz can]. It won’t quite jack you up like a regular Monster, or equivalent energy drink, but if you need a light recovery drink, it’s a damn fine choice.

Maxpedition SITKA Gearslinger In Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

As you can see from these movie stills, main character Sam Witwicky, played by Shia LaBeouf, is wearing a Maxpedition SITKA Gearslinger sometime during the events of the film. Score one for product placement! Also, for those who are interested, there’s no Megan Fox in this movie. She’s been replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. I suppose opinion differs on whether that’s good or bad, but at least there will still be giant fighting robots!

Check out the Maxpediton SITKA Gearslinger here.

Thanks to Tim Tang of Maxpedition for the photos. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon comes out July 1st, 2011.

Echelon Software

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Echelon Software is a company located in Astoria, New York who deals in interactive media, such as video games, but also has ties to companies including NAE Systems and Magpul Dynamics, whom used Echelon’s services to enhance their own brands. Echelon currently has a Facebook game titled Black Powder Red Earth available for play that details the actions of a PMC in a near future Iraq. The game itself is based on a short story, and unlike most other games dealing with Middle Eastern conflict, it handles its subject matter in a realistic manner. Weapons, locations, and even the enemy forces are all represented in-game as they would be in real-life. No AKA-47s, unnamed countries, and OPFOR as an enemy placeholder in the story. Also included with the game is a wide offering of special features, detailing the history of the region, the enemy forces, and the methods of PMCs that operate in the area through interviews. If you’re in the military or industry, you’ll appreciate the level of authenticity found in this game.

Also in the works is a graphic novel set in the same universe as Black Powder Red Earth. The graphic novel draws from both the original short story and Facebook game to deliver an experience on par with the accuracy and intrigue of its namesake. It won’t be released until later this year, but here’s the first two pages to pique your interest.

Visit echelon-software.com and studio.echelon-software.com for information on future projects and products and to see a list of their available services and past clients.

Call Of The Dead Reveal Trailer

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

I knew this map was going to be something special as soon as I heard ‘Funky Fanfare’ playing during the beginning along with the overall grindhouse-style of the trailer. Although Black Ops is no stranger to using real people as playable characters in Zombies [See ‘Five’] having such well-known horror personalities as Danny Trejo, Robert Englund, and “the godfather of all zombies” himself, George A. Romero (as a boss character) really sets a new standard of awesomeness. This is definitely a day-one purchase for me.

Escalation comes out May 3rd for XBOX Live.

The Devil’s Double – Trailer

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

This amazing trailer is for the upcoming movie The Devil’s Double. The movie shows the true story of Latif Yahida, an Iraqi Army Lieutenant who was chosen to be Uday Hussein’s body double. It won’t see a release in theaters until August 12th, but has received good reviews when it was shown at Sundance. I’m actually excited to see this.
