Bike Repair

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

I’ll admit I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to something like fixing a bike, and looking for whatever your problem is on the internet can be a pain in the ass. That’s why apps like Bike Repair by Atomic Softwares exist. It has an answer for almost every common issue a bike rider could experience, coupled with step-by-step instructions on how to fix it. These instructions include full-color images of bikes with textual overlays detailing each step as well as what tools you’ll need. It’s not a bad option if you ride your bicycle frequently, but don’t want to pay for a potentially costly repair at a bike shop when you yourself could do a simple repair.

Bike Repair is available for iOS and Android.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Theatrical Trailer

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Transformers 3 Dark Of The Moon Theatrical Trailer from Michael Bay Dot Com on Vimeo.

I know it’s a lot to get excited about a movie just because of the trailer. After all, that’s the whole point of a trailer. But if the rest of the movie is at least semi-watchable, I think it will be worth it just to see these action scenes again on the theater screen with digital sound blaring all around me. Michael Bay may have outdone himself with this one.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon arrives in theaters July 1st, 2011.

Arizona Second State To Have An Offical State Firearm

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Awhile ago, I announced that Utah chose the M1911 as their official state firearm. Now, Arizona has followed suit, choosing the Colt Single Action Army as their official state firearm. Governor Jan Brewer passed the bill on Thursday. It was chosen because of the revolver’s extensive use during Arizona’s territorial days. The only question that remains is if other states will follow the trend of picking official firearms. Only time will tell.

Thanks to AZCentral for the original story.

Monster Rehab

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

I recently cracked open my first Monster Rehab, an energy drink described as “Tea+Lemonade+Energy” on the can. Based on taste alone, it’s not too inaccurate to describe it as an ‘Energy Arnold Palmer’. You’ve got that slightly tart, slightly sweet tea taste of an Arnold Palmer, combined with a slight hit of “Rehab Energy Blend”, and it’s not carbonated. As a nice little bonus, this lemony-liquid is only 10 calories per serving [about 2 servings per 15.5 oz can]. It won’t quite jack you up like a regular Monster, or equivalent energy drink, but if you need a light recovery drink, it’s a damn fine choice.

Maxpedition SITKA Gearslinger In Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

As you can see from these movie stills, main character Sam Witwicky, played by Shia LaBeouf, is wearing a Maxpedition SITKA Gearslinger sometime during the events of the film. Score one for product placement! Also, for those who are interested, there’s no Megan Fox in this movie. She’s been replaced by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. I suppose opinion differs on whether that’s good or bad, but at least there will still be giant fighting robots!

Check out the Maxpediton SITKA Gearslinger here.

Thanks to Tim Tang of Maxpedition for the photos. Transformers: Dark Of The Moon comes out July 1st, 2011.

Echelon Software

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Echelon Software is a company located in Astoria, New York who deals in interactive media, such as video games, but also has ties to companies including NAE Systems and Magpul Dynamics, whom used Echelon’s services to enhance their own brands. Echelon currently has a Facebook game titled Black Powder Red Earth available for play that details the actions of a PMC in a near future Iraq. The game itself is based on a short story, and unlike most other games dealing with Middle Eastern conflict, it handles its subject matter in a realistic manner. Weapons, locations, and even the enemy forces are all represented in-game as they would be in real-life. No AKA-47s, unnamed countries, and OPFOR as an enemy placeholder in the story. Also included with the game is a wide offering of special features, detailing the history of the region, the enemy forces, and the methods of PMCs that operate in the area through interviews. If you’re in the military or industry, you’ll appreciate the level of authenticity found in this game.

Also in the works is a graphic novel set in the same universe as Black Powder Red Earth. The graphic novel draws from both the original short story and Facebook game to deliver an experience on par with the accuracy and intrigue of its namesake. It won’t be released until later this year, but here’s the first two pages to pique your interest.

Visit echelon-software.com and studio.echelon-software.com for information on future projects and products and to see a list of their available services and past clients.

Call Of The Dead Reveal Trailer

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

I knew this map was going to be something special as soon as I heard ‘Funky Fanfare’ playing during the beginning along with the overall grindhouse-style of the trailer. Although Black Ops is no stranger to using real people as playable characters in Zombies [See ‘Five’] having such well-known horror personalities as Danny Trejo, Robert Englund, and “the godfather of all zombies” himself, George A. Romero (as a boss character) really sets a new standard of awesomeness. This is definitely a day-one purchase for me.

Escalation comes out May 3rd for XBOX Live.

The Devil’s Double – Trailer

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

This amazing trailer is for the upcoming movie The Devil’s Double. The movie shows the true story of Latif Yahida, an Iraqi Army Lieutenant who was chosen to be Uday Hussein’s body double. It won’t see a release in theaters until August 12th, but has received good reviews when it was shown at Sundance. I’m actually excited to see this.

TFB Caption Contest

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Image by U.S. Army. Used under creative commons license 2.0.

See, I’ve got this picture here, and something to give away. But how do the two relate, you may ask? It’s simple, really: Write a pants-pissingly-hilarious caption about said pic in the comments section below, and if I think it’s the best, I’ll send you that something. But what could it be, exactly?

How about… A ZOMBIE COOKIE MONSTER PATCH!

All entries are due by Friday, April 29th, 11:59 P.M. Eastern. One entry per person.

Good luck!

Happy Easter From Tactical Fanboy!

‘Shooter’ In Pencil

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

This amazingly detailed drawing of a man aiming an M14 M1A/SOCOM II is titled ‘Shooter’, and it’s done entirely in pencil. In fact, the detail is so great, one could almost assume it was a black and white photograph. The artist is Renee Alane, and more of her fantastic work can be found on the Facebook page RM Pencil Drawings.

Action Figure Therapy – Slightly NSFW

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

Move over Robot Chicken, Youtuber actionfiguretherapy has definitely raised the bar for toy-based hilarity. In this series, G.I. Joe knockoff Jungle Recon (and the occasional friend) answers those questions we’re all dying to know, like how a mustache helps in combat. These questions are answered through a combination of pure hilarity, crass language, and Magnum P.I. references. Also, this vid is a little on the NSFW side, although they can get a lot more rude (not to mention even more hilarious).

Thanks to reader Nathan for pointing out this amazing series to me.

Archer Season Finale – NSFW

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Just a reminder than the season finale of Archer premiers tonight on FX at 10 PM, Eastern. If you haven’t been watching this show, you’ve been missing the best, if highly vulgar, animated spy comedy of all time. In other words: it’s mandatory viewing. Also, a brand new Duke Nukem Forever trailer will be premiering on TV, because who else but Duke could pair so well with Archer?

This is the uncensored version of the trailer, btw.

BAE Systems M777 Field Howizer In LEGO

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Have you ever wanted to see a highly detailed model of the BAE Systems M777 Field Howizer, in LEGO form? If so, then your dreams have come true. It was a model created by flickr user Colonel Henry for the Lego Marines Corps crewed weapons contest. In addition to the Howizer itself, and the environment it’s in, there’s also a full crew to man it. Pretty damn cool, if you ask me.

Battleship Shoes

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Artist Phill Noto created these sneakers for an art show at Bold Hype Gallery. Personally, I don’t think many people could pull these off. Maybe with NWU pattern camo…

Transforming Home

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

What seems to be a mild-mannered concrete block is actually…

A super home! Fighting for truth, justice, and the American way!

Well, not really. Instead, it’s The Safe House. Designed by architecture firm KWK Promes, this 6,100 sq. ft. fortress is designed with no safety feature left unimplemented. A series of security codes are required just for entry, which leads to the ‘safety zone’, an area surrounded by concrete walls. As the home opens, a drawbridge lowers connecting it to an indoor swimming pool while walls and shutters open, and a rolling aluminum gate opens to an expansive garden view.

No word on pricing, or if its even available for purchase, but if I got a hold of that property, I’d paint ‘BAT CAVE’ in big, sloppy letters on the side, and hide a bunch of cool, million-dollar gadgets inside.

Thanks to Scottsdale Gun Club. You can see more on the home here.

CoD: Black Ops Escalation Preview

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

Here’s a preview of the second Black Ops map pack, titled ‘Escalation’. Once again, they screw us on any footage from the zombies map. Doesn’t Treyarch know the only real reason people buy these packs is for that very purpose? In any event, the maps do look pretty cool, although they continue to do that whole alternate-history thing with some of the maps, like convoy, which features an American convoy in the States that was ambushed by Soviet forces. I can’t decide if that really makes any sense, even taking into account the game’s fiction.

Escalation comes out May 3rd, exclusively [for a period] for Xbox Live. The PS3 will most likely follow one month later, followed by who-knows-when for the PC. Wii owners are, as always, completely shafted.

Iranian Wookiee Army

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Did the world-wide Star Wars fan club finally form its own army? Survey says: no. Instead, this display of gillie suits is in celebration of Iran’s annual Army Day, where Iranian soldiers of every branch march to display their military “might”, whether that be with flowers in their guns, or as a parade of furries.

Thanks to dailymail.co.uk for the original story, and the images this article relates to.

Tactical Wifi Cantenna

Monday, April 18th, 2011

The folks over at hackaday.com built this sporty looking cantenna with parts from a broken airsoft pistol. Although I cringe at calling anything tactical simply due to its color configuration (it is black), this is still a pretty neat project. However, I don’t think it needs picatinny rails.

The page link also includes a tutorial to make your own, so go nuts.

SPECOPS Combat Shirt Project

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

This combat shirt project by Foki is arguably too cool to be practical. And maybe that’s the whole point. But then again, I’m up for almost anything in MultiCam, especially any new combat shirts. Never been sure what those downward hanging belt sashes are, though. Anyone got a name for me?

You can check out the rest of the photos on SPECOPS’ Facebook page.

Sarif Industries TV Spot

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

I’ve always wanted bio-mechanical upgrades. Who doesn’t want legs that let you run 50 mph or an arm that can punch through a tank? Of course this commercial only shows civilian applications for augmentation, but it’s pretty obvious what you can really do with this kind of tech. Gun-arm, anyone?

For those of you not in the know, this is a commercial for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Sadly, it ain’t real.

The Weaponry Of Rage

Friday, April 15th, 2011

Rage is a game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic Earth, so of course the weaponry would be a mix of the familiar and the strange. You’ve got your standard rifles, smgs, pistols, and shotguns, but also futuristic crossbows, automated turrets, and the wingstick, a large three-bladed throwing weapon.

Also, props to including the AK-47 as the “Settler Machine Gun”. If any weapon would survive an earth shattering catastrophe it would have to be the AK.

Rage comes out September 13, 2011 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
