TFB Gift Idea #202: SAR-GT Eclipse Knife [$40]

Friday, December 9th, 2011

SAR Global Tools has a nice little ESAR type tool (well, ESAR if you’re the one lost) called the Eclipse. Many of you will have already heard of it. The Mad Duo talked about it over on Kit Up! and it’s been reviewed in a number of places. Anyway, they have another version that has a little emergency blade on it as well. Check out the SAR Eclipse Signal System/knife (SESS/k). For about $50 with shipping you can get one for anyone that goes out shooting, hiking, backpacking, camping, canoeing, OWSing (just kidding), geocaching, whatever…and, since a lot of the cool kids (and even cooler kids) are doing it, you add a little more bit of realism to your MilSim kit. Here’s what Marsec has to say about it. This is the manufacturer’s explanation of the original and here it is on Facebook.

We tried to find a picture of a hawt chick signalling for help in a skimpy outfit, but apparently a lot of hawt chicks have either never heard of the Eclipse or they’re just not bright enough to use it (no offense to any hawt chicks that have gotten lost).

TFB Gift Idea for your honey: MRE skivvies

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

We like these skivvies. You may recall that we’ve discussed RE Factor Tactical in the past, as has Soldier Systems when they talked about the RE Factor 9-Line placard. Well, they’ve got some very nice new apparel for the tactical lady in your life (or just a lady you’d like to get tactical with). Check out the RE Factor Tactical Women’s MRE Panties. Unlike the standard MREs that are good mostly for industrial grade constipation and some pungent aromas in the hooch, these actually look appetizing.  From the company: “Mmmm… an MRE you can actually enjoy. Made and hand-printed in the USA, these hot pants are made of soft cotton and designed to be cheeky. Front features ‘MRE’, back left feature the TNT molecule seen in the RE Factor Tactical logo.”

Sadly, we don’t have any that have been modeled yet other than the one from the actual storefront. Perhaps someday soon we’ll see them on Tac Girls, the MagPul Calendar, the Hot Shots Calendar, the Sure Shots or even the Dystopian Slut Militia.

No offense intended for any of them, of course, we’re speaking only about aesthetic appreciation.

Airsoft GI TV: Left 4 Dead!

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Airsoft GI is making another movie, or so we hear. It’s their second film project, a Left 4 Dead “fan film” that looks anything but fan made. In fact, the trailer looks better than a lot of the craptastic movies out there ostensibly “professionally” made (not that craptastic is a bad thing, mind you; SyFy movies suck but are fun as hell to watch). They made it with Northern Five entertainment and Condor Outdoor. Their first one was pretty good, but the new one is sick. Beast. Whatever. Looks good.

On a more serious note: Real Steel

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

The BOLO Report, a blog catering to “law enforcement, military and high threat security professionals” just ran a piece on your weak hand draw, if you’re injured or impeded in some way. The article was written by one of the BOLO Report contributors who is a LEO and a competitive shooter, originally for the Women’s Tactical Association. If you’re someone who runs real steel, or has a CCW, or is one of our readership in the noble profession of arms, you might want to check it out.

A Slightly Different TFB Gift Idea…Zombie Gnomes?

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

It’s not that we’re unsure about the suitability of a zombie gnome as a gift. It’s a great idea. We’re just not sure if it’s appropriate to give one for Christmas or to wait a couple days and find a different excuse…though frankly we’re putting some up here locally and calling them dead elves (they’ll be under the tree). After New Year’s Eve we’ll put ’em outside where it’s a little safer for us. Anyway, apparently since Garden Gnomes are protectors of life, they are the first to fall victim to the zombiepocalypse pandemic. You can get information about them on the Zombie Gnome Facebook page, here, or e-mail doug@klonefx.com. Whichever way you go looking for one, remember two things: 1. Go for a head shot and remember they’re small, and moving. Speed is fine but accuracy is final.  2. Tell them Tactical Fanboy sent you, would you please?

The manufacturer says, When it comes to how long they will last outdoors, it depends on your climate and weather conditions. They are solid cast gypsum cement, hand painted and sealed with a matte clear UV coating. The bottoms are sealed with rubber to inhibit water absorption from the ground. If you want to reseal it, use clear polyurethane. Any sealant will wear out over time. It’s best to keep them dry and out of direct sunlight.

Say, on the subject of zombies…if you’re one of the head honchos from Zombie Squad and you read this, drop us a line. We need to have a serious chat before everything goes to hell in handbasket and the dead outnumber the living.

Rogue American Women

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Remember reading about Rogue American Apparel? Their women’s line is now out, and not only are their shirts just as cool as the men’s line, the models are way hotter (and have more hair).  Rogue American t-shirts are hand distressed, so every one is unique, and each design has only 500 printed. RAA supports the Brothers in Arms Foundation with every sale, and frequently runs special designs that are completely devoted to helping fallen or injured Warriors (which is why you should like them on Facebook). To quote their website, “Our tees have the same cut and feel as Ed hardy, we just don’t let douchebags wear them.”

MilSim Event Review of WT Tactical

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Some of the guys from MSE went out hunting for some piggies, doing some four-wheeling and basically just spending three days in the mountains proving that adage about men and boys and the price of their toys. Check it out. The actual reviewing is at about 3:20 and 6:16, but if you want to just feel bad that you didn’t get to go play and they did then watch the whole thing.

Tactical Fanboy Gift Idea #1729: Effin-A Compensator

Monday, December 5th, 2011

Need a link to send to Household-6 or your grandma to give them an idea what to buy you for Christmas? Send them the direct link to this page. You might just need yourself an Effin’A Compensator. Kit Up! ran an article the other day detailing a review of the item, if you’re interested.

Tactical Fanboy Gift Idea #13: I KILL TERRORISTS

Sunday, December 4th, 2011

IKT Clothing is pretty simple in its mantra. Say what you mean, mean what you say. The founder is a former Marine Scout-Sniper turned Army SF veteran who spent more than a little time in the sandbox. They have several designs, all revolving around one simple (but kick ass theme). You might guess that theme by reading the name of the whole line of apparel (though they have t-shirts, hoodies, patches, decals, et al). Learn more about them on Facebook and let ’em know Tactical Fanboy sent you. (Oh, and despite what you might think, they’re not snake-eater snobs; you don’t have to do a tab check to buy their stuff, as long as you’re a patriotic American who supports…well, killing terrorists).

Yes, #7. Why 7? Because their swag is just cool as hell. RE Factor Tactical.RE Factor, if you ask (and you will) means Relative Effectiveness as it pertains to TNT (which has an RE of 1). Other explosives are measured from there (in simple terms; there’s actually more to it than that).

Tactical Fanboy Gift Suggestion #1121: C.A.T. M4

Friday, December 2nd, 2011

Gotcha a little carbon build-up? Rather be hunting for Vladimir Makarov or Solomon? Better things to do than spending hours cleaning your bolt carrier group the good old fashioned way? Think about telling the Residential Sergeant Major, your girlfriend (not both at the same time) or your mom to get you a Combat Application Tools M-4 tool. You can’t go wrong throwing one of these in your kit or your range bag.

Tactical Fanboy Gift Idea #141: Sure Shots Gear

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Like to shoot? Like girls? Like girls who like to shoot? Perhaps you’re a girl that likes to shoot? In the interest of open-mindedness, maybe you just like to dress like a girl who likes to shoot. Anyway, you should go look at the store recently set up by the Austin Sure Shots, an all-female shooting league in the Lone Star State. Yes, there are some shirts and hoodies in there suitable for males. You might also check them out, if you’re a female shooter in Texas. They train in a couple different locations, once a week, and they do more than just spend time on the range. They do IDPA, rifle work, tactical drills and concealed carry stuff, plus bring in SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) on things like post-shooting psychology, legal issues pursuant to shooting in self-defense, etc.
