Monty Python and the Holy Grail Black Knight Deluxe Talking Premium Motion Statue

October 20th, 2019

Much beloved and endlessly quoted, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a favorite film of mine, and I’m sure many of you readers share that sentiment. Which is why it’s totally worth bringing up this Holy Grail Black Knight talking motion statue. Coming in a 7.5″ tall, the Black Knight has removable arms (sadly/thankfully without the comical blood spray), and speaks 10 phrases straight from the film:

”Tis but a scratch”
”I’ve had worse”
”Ohh, ohh I see, running away ehh?… you yellow Bastard!”
”Come back ‘ere and take what’s coming to you… I’ll bite your legs off!”
”s’alright, we’ll call it a draw”
”It’s just a flesh wound”
”Have at you!”
”I’m invincible!”
”I move for no man!”
”None shall pass, none shall pass!”

As good an addition to your collectables shelf or work table as any.

Available for pre-order from EntertainmentEarth, with a release date of January 2020.

BOOMco DXD58 HALO UNSC MA5 Blaster

October 8th, 2019

To my detriment, I haven’t been paying much attention to the Mattel BOOMco line of licensed Halo dart blasters, at least not since initially seeing them at San Diego Comic Con 2015. Which is a shame, too, because they’ve made some awesome additions to the line since then, such as this MA5 blaster. Based on the MA5 assault rifle from the Halo Series, this blaster feeds from a side loading 8-shot clip, and interestingly, it’s designed so that the user builds air pressure using the foregrip as a pump, and then the trigger can be held down to expend the entire clip in a full-auto fashion, which is pretty darn cool. It’s available in both blue and red, for team purposes.

BOOMco has also a Brute Spiker, which in the Halo games is an alien SMG of sorts that shoots molten hot spikes, and has dual blades that can be used to slash at enemies.

And even a blaster based on the M45D shotgun.

These and more BOOMco branded blasters can be found wherever Mattel products are sold.

ArmyCon: Where Virtual and Reality Meet

October 7th, 2019

FORT KNOX, Ky. — The U.S. Army is aiming to connect the gaming world to the military characters and equipment featured in many of today’s most popular games during the first-ever ArmyCon at the Army Ten-Miler Expo Park and D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C., Oct. 11-12.

ArmyCon will showcase high tech, warfighting capabilities with interactive displays and demonstrations. Individuals can test their skills as virtual warriors in the Mobile Gaming Semi-Trailer and then meet the real-life Soldiers face-to-face, equipped with all the associated gear and weaponry, in one action-packed area.

Spectators can test out robots, climb inside helicopters, and challenge their hacking skills. They can even get a close-up look at two new pieces of Army tech — the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle — Binocular and the Black Hornet Nano Unmanned Aerial System.

The ENVG-B’s are the Army’s most advanced night vision goggle, providing close combat forces with the capability to observe and maneuver weather conditions during limited visibility and enabling Soldiers to shoot around corners. The Black Hornet is a tiny drone that offers intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance support.

“There are so many young people who don’t know what high-tech jobs the Army can offer or what Army life is like,” said Maj. Gen. Frank Muth, U.S. Army Recruiting commanding general. “ArmyCon is a prime opportunity for us to start the conversation about the professional jobs our Soldiers do.”

ArmyCon will feature the two new outreach teams created this year — the Army eSports Team and the Warrior Fitness Team. The esports team will host a “Twitch” gaming tournament inside of the U.S. Army Mobile Gaming Semi-Trailer, which features scorpion chairs and a variety of gaming platforms.

In addition to the new equipment and the gaming trailer, attendees will have a variety of Army assets to experience up-close and personal, including:

-Electric motorcycle
-Talon EOD robot
-Percussion explosive neutralization system
-Portable X-ray
-EOD blast suit
-Cyber Protection Team (demo cyber effects, display geo tagging effects with social media)
-Helicopters
-Stryker

Along with the equipment, attendees can meet Olympians from the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, the Golden Knights Army Parachute Team, Rangers, Special Forces Soldiers, and more.

Hampton Roads Naval Museum Makes Final Preparations Prior to Re-opening

October 6th, 2019

By Max Lonzanida, Public Affairs Officer, Hampton Roads Naval Museum

Norfolk, Va. –The gallery of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum will re-open, Oct. 9, following a transformation of more than 4,700 sq. ft. into a new immersive exhibit, The Ten Thousand-Day War at Sea: The US Navy in Vietnam, 1950-1975.

NORFOLK, VA. (Sep, 20, 2019) A Vietnamese sampan, captured in 1968 by US Navy riverine forces, along with a diorama featuring a Patrol Boat Riverine gun tub are some of the artifacts that will be on display at a new exhibit at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. The exhibit, “The Ten Thousand Day War at Sea: the US Navy in Vietnam, 1950-1975” is scheduled to open on October 9, 2019. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released)

The exhibit represents the first major renovation of their gallery since 1994. Preparations for the conversion began in April, and this week, with the addition of almost 130 artifacts, the staff is making final preparations to open their doors to the public.

Using the U.S. Navy’s rich historical collections, multi-media presentations, and interactive components, visitors will experience the Navy’s pivotal role in the Vietnam War.

Choosing the right pieces to tell Navy’s Vietnam War story was critical to the exhibit’s creation. To guarantee that the visuals matched the museum’s intent, exhibit specialists collaborated with the Naval History and Heritage Command’s (NHHC) Curator Branch.

“We worked alongside with Hampton Roads Naval Museum staff to make certain we were telling a holistic story,” commented Jeff Bowdoin, Naval History and Heritage Command Curator Branch head. “Many people understand the riverine contributions to the war effort, though we must look beyond those operations. For instance the bullet fragment recovered from the USS Maddox represents an attack on a U.S. Navy destroyer that helped support the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution.”

(US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released)

One of the large artifacts visitors will have the opportunity to see is a 25-foot long sampan captured in 1968.

Sampans, flat-bottom boats that plied the waterways of the Mekong Delta transporting people and goods, were sometimes used to transport contraband weapons and supplies to aid the Viet Cong.

In 1968, riverine forces captured a 25-foot long sampan during Operation FLANKSPEED as it transported weapons, among other contraband. The Navy brought the open hulled sampan back to the U.S. and until now, it was in under management of NHHC’s Curator Branch.

Creating a new exhibit about the Vietnam War presented substantial opportunities for Hampton Roads Naval Museum to connect with Navy veterans. The museum recorded interviews with over forty-five Navy veterans of the war.

“Veterans of the Vietnam War did not receive a particularly hospitable homecoming,” said John Pentangelo, Hampton Roads Naval Museum director. “Many Americans wanted to forget the war and military service was not recognized the way it was before or since.”

Pentangelo also stated that the Navy’s contributions to the war are often overlooked in scholarship and popular culture. “While the artifacts were vital to the telling this story, the oral history program that preceded the exhibit fabrication really shaped the exhibit in a dynamic way,” he added, “Navy veterans were allowed to speak for themselves and provide visitors with the opportunity to make meaningful connections to our shared past.”

Hampton Roads Naval Museum will host a private ribbon cutting ceremony October 8 at 6 p.m. Media are invited to attend and should contact max.q.lonzanida@navy.mil for additional details. The exhibit opens to the public on October 9. During the three-year exhibit, The Hampton Roads Naval Museum aims to educate visitors about the U.S. Navy’s role in the Vietnam War.

Sacred Bones Records – Halloween “Target Practice” Poster

October 3rd, 2019

In the article when I first brought up Chris Bilheimer’s ‘Target Practice’ art made for the Halloween 2018 soundtrack, and subsequently available on a t-shirt and enamel pin, I mentioned how it was unfortunate that it wasn’t available as an actual target. Well, it’s not quite there yet, however it is now available as an oversized, 23″x34″ stand-alone poster. At $15/ea, this isn’t one you’d buy just to shoot at the range, but it’d still be a cool wall piece.

Leading Global Innovator of Purpose-Built Gear Has Produced A Custom Content Video Series Alongside Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint Involvement

Irvine, Calif. (September 27, 2019) — 5.11 Tactical®, the world’s leading innovator of tactical apparel, footwear and outdoor gear, is proud to announce an expanded partnership with Ubisoft® for its upcoming release, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. In addition to once again giving players the opportunity to outfit their characters in 5.11 apparel and gear through in-game character customization options that impact game play, 5.11 has also partnered with Ubisoft on multiple custom content videos surrounding the Ghost Recon Breakpoint launch.

5.11’s 2016 product integration in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Wildlands initiated the connection between the worlds of gaming and real-life tactical experiences by providing gamers with the same 5.11 purpose-built products that are used by tactical professionals every day. 5.11 continued their partnership with Ubisoft in 2018 appearing in the video game Far Cry 5. Earlier this year, 5.11’s product integration in The Division 2 was the third time the two brands partnered together in that capacity and the first time the two brands created custom content utilizing 5.11 brand ambassador Tim Kennedy in The Real Endgame Weapons Of The Division 2. 5.11’s appearance in this Fall’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint marks the fourth collaboration effort between Ubisoft and 5.11 and an even more extensive content creation partnership between the two brands.

“We’ve enjoyed expanding our partnership with 5.11 over the past few years,” said Adam Novickas, Vice President of Marketing at Ubisoft. “5.11’s gear is perfectly placed within Ghost Recon Breakpoint and their custom content partnership adds a level of authenticity to the game that we truly value.”

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a military shooter set in a diverse and hostile open world entirely playable solo or in up to four-player co-op. Players will discover Auroa, a mysterious island where the most technically advanced facilities meet wild and untamed nature. Home to drone creators, tech giant Skell Technology, Auroa has fallen into the wrong hands and all contact has been lost.

The Wolves, a lethal ex–US Military unit of former Ghosts gone rogue, have taken over the island. Led by Nomad’s ex-brother-in-arms, Lt. Colonel Cole D. Walker, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, they have reprogrammed Skell’s drones into killing machines and are ready to use them, no matter the casualties. Nomad and the Ghosts are sent in on a recon mission, but their helicopters are shot down. Injured, without support, and hunted down, players will live an intense military experience as they fight to survive, take down the Wolves and regain control of Auroa.

Steep slopes, accumulating injuries, and fatigue are new challenges for players to tackle as they test their survival skills in the varied terrains of Auroa. To overcome adversity, players will enjoy total freedom to accomplish their missions and have plenty of tactical options and tools at their disposal, including a set of new military features. They will be able to carry enemies and teammates’ bodies, blend into their environment with prone camo and set up camp with teammates in the bivouac to manage equipment, change classes, and fine-tune their strategies.

Evil Dead 4k Restoration Limited Theatrical Event Schedule Revealed

September 25th, 2019

Grindhouse Releasing has revealed the initial round of dates for the Evil Dead 4k Restoration. As expected, it’s a mix of small arthouse theaters and conventions around North America, principally the US. Showings are scheduled through December, and are at a pretty wide variety of locations, so chances are decent you’ll be able to find a showing within a reasonable distance. What constitutes “reasonable” might depend on how much of an Evil Dead fan you are; luckily for me there are multiple showings extremely close by through October, and I’ve already got my ticket!

As a reminder, this is a 4k restoration of the original ‘Evil Dead’, with the restoration done from the original 16mm print – and in close collaboration with original director Sam Raimi. The release will also feature a brand new 5.1 surround sound mix, and a completely reimagined soundtrack by original composer Joseph LoDuca.

You can check out the full list at: http://grindhousereleasing.com/?p=1123

Activision/Infinity Ward Appropriates BCM/BPRE Promotional Imagery for Latest Call of Duty Release

September 23rd, 2019

Back in 2013, prior to the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts, a beta for the game featured a slightly-altered version of the Mil-Spec Monkey logo as an in-game player customization icon.

Needless to say, this was not an authorized use of that copyrighted material. And, it looks like Activision and Infinity Ward are at it again:

thumbnail

This is a loading screen for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

.300 Blk

And this is promotional imagery for BCM and BPRE. Strikingly similar, aren’t they?

For the curious, this image was featured in promotional materials for BCM’s line of .300 Blackout carbines, among other uses.

Not to excuse the use of this imagery, but it’s worth mentioning that the new Modern Warfare is currently in a pre-release state, and it’s possible that this is being used as placeholder art until the game launches later this year. Still, you’d figure that a big corporation like Activision would be a bit more cautious when it comes to potential intellectual property violations for their multi-billion dollar franchise.

ONTARIO, Calif., Sept. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Armor plate protection is now available for everyone at pre-holiday promotional pricing. Broco, Inc.’s new Rapid Deploy Ballistic Protection Sport Backpack looks like an ordinary backpack except this one has two hidden body armor plates – one in the back and another that deploys in seconds to cover the front – to provide ballistic protection in case of an emergency.

The Broco Rapid Deploy Ballistic Protection Sport Backpack is designed for civilians, including teachers, students, parents, coaches, family and friends, as well as law enforcement and military. It is lightweight yet strong and deploys quickly. The removable soft armor plates are NIJ 0101.06 certified level IIIA (handgun) and weigh 1.1 lbs. each. Stronger hard armor plates that are NIJ certified level III (rifle) and weighing 3.3 lbs. each also are available for purchase.

Broco Rankin

“We wanted to deliver something new to the bulletproof backpack market that would benefit everyone,” said Richard Ferry, president of Broco Rankin. “The Broco backpack does that with two armor plates instead of just one. We made it lightweight and strong for everyday people based on our experience with the tactical tools and gear we provide to first responders.”

The rapid deploy feature is quick and easy. In the event of an emergency, pull the quick release cord on the shoulder strap to separate the two compartments and pull one over the head. The result is bulletproof protection over vital body parts on both front and back. The civilian model is available in blue, gray, maroon or black. The tactical model comes in tan or black with a molle system or laser cut, and can be ordered without the Broco logo for more discrete protection.

“We initially created the Rapid Deploy Backpack for our first responder and military customers. Then we decided that it was versatile enough to protect anyone in a public place,” concluded Ferry.

Galco Gunleather – Introducing The New StukOn-U Pocket Holster For Subcompact Autos

September 18th, 2019

Galco Gunleather is excited to introduce additional StukOn-U pocket holster fits for subcompact autos from Colt, Kahr, Kel-Tec, Kimber, Ruger, S&W, Taurus and others!

The StukOn-U builds on Galco’s decades of experience with pocket holsters. Its Gripper Shell™ exterior helps the holster grab the inside of the pocket, while the closed-cell foam substrate gives the holster shape and sturdiness. Finally, a layer of 420 denier packcloth lines the holster to both protect the handgun and smooth the draw.

The ambidextrous StukOn-U is designed for front pocket carry in pants or a jacket. It keeps the firearm in the same general position so the grip can be quickly located during draw, conceals the shape of the gun so that its outline is not printed through the pants, and allows one-handed release of gun from both pocket and holster, especially when using a “hooking” draw technique to catch the trigger-guard edge of the holster on the pocket as the handgun is released. The holster’s Gripper Shell surface assists in keeping the holster in the pocket during the draw.

The StukOn-U helps accomplish multiple concealed carry tasks with excellent discretion – and at the very reasonable retail price of $27!

Blast From The Past – The Arcus 3D-Printed Rubber Band Gatling Gun

September 17th, 2019

A few years back, I briefly mentioned The Arcus, A 3D-Printed Rubber Band Gatling Gun. Since the original video was taken down or otherwise made unavailable, I’d say it’s worth a revisit.

As the title states, The Arcus is a rubber band Gatling gun, made with 3D-printed components. It fits over the forearm and is capable of discharging 48 rubber bands in seconds. Impressively, the gun has no external firing mechanism, aside from the initial trigger pull, as it’s powered entirely by the energy from the rubber bands that it shoots.

What’s also impressive is the design: the Arcus requires no adhesive or fasteners to construct; all the parts snap together, and it can freely and repeatedly be taken apart and reassembled. The parts themselves are designed to be printed without any supports, and all fit on a 200mm x 200mm print bed.

So, if you have an appropriate 3D printer, or access to one, and are looking for a cool new project that involves the rapid discharge of projectiles, then you may want to give The Arcus a try.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions we’ve had regarding the magazine.

Is it reliable?

Yes! It should be noted that from the handmade prototypes we made in February and March, through the rounds of pre-production samples, to the final geometry we have today, we have never had a single failure to feed or eject. If the mag fit, it functioned, flawlessly.

What took so long?

While it always takes time to create tooling, what slowed us down is that to our knowledge, this magazine geometry has never been done before, so it took a little extra time for our magazine manufacturer to dial everything in.

Even small adjustments to a magazine design take time to change in tooling and test, and we were unwilling to compromise and release the magazine before it was ready. This is not just a range toy.

When will pre-orders ship?

We expect to begin shipping pre-orders in October; pre-orders will ship in the order they are received.

Do I need a metal mag catch since the magazine is made out of steel?

That depends on the shooter. We are offering an anodized aluminum mag catch for higher volume shooters who are concerned that the steel magazine will wear down the OEM polymer catch. It should be noted that our test guns have OEM mag catches, and we haven’t noticed any reliability issues yet. However, if you shoot enough, there is a possibility of accelerated wear on the catch, so if this is a concern, swap it out.

Fostech Echo Sport Trigger

September 15th, 2019

Fostech’s Echo Sport is designed as a lower-cost alternative to those who want an Echo trigger for their AR, but want to spend a bit less money. Rather than activate the Echo mode from the selector, the Echo Sport features a selector paddle that sits within the trigger well. The shooters moves the paddle to the left for Echo mode, and to the right for semi-auto. And, as with the standard Echo, the Echo mode can be turned off by moving the paddle back to semi-auto mode when the trigger is depressed.

Project REsistance Gameplay Overview

September 13th, 2019

After the excellent Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the well-received Resident Evil 2 remake, Capcom’s next entry in the extremely popular Resident Evil series is… a 4-player asymmetric co-op game. To be fair, it’s too early to really judge this one, but the footage shown so far isn’t looking particularly phenomenal. It honestly looks like a fairly generic co-op title, like Left 4 Dead with just a bit of Temco’s Deception thrown in as the Mastermind role.

Project REsistance is slated for a TBA launch, on Xbox One, PS4, and PC via Steam.
